Replacing grant number light bulbs

By default, on a car of the Lada Granta Liftback family, the license plate is illuminated by two C5W incandescent lamps, with an intercontact distance of 39 mm.

Despite the doubled number of lamps, standard lighting is not enough to recognize the letter symbol of the side sign. Often, owners independently install other lighting fixtures, such as LEDs.

LED Specifications:

Radiator material: aluminum. LED operating temperature (+65°). Provided that more than 4 pieces are installed on the board, a cooling radiator is essential to avoid overheating;
Power: 0.2 W / pcs., multiply by the total quantity, we get the indicator;
The LED length is 41.6 mm, which is 4.0 mm longer than the standard lamp (37.5 mm). The standard contact connector has enough allowance for longer LEDs.

Preparatory stage

Necessary tools, materials:

LED set (2 pieces in total);
Screwdriver with Phillips bit;
Rags;
Rust removal liquid. In case the screws will not come out;
Additional lighting, subject to work being carried out in the dark.

The license plate light bulbs do not light up, I took out the old light bulbs, they were black, I replaced them with new ones, they still do not light up, I checked the fuse, it is working. So I guess there is no mass? Where to look for it?

Sequence of actions to independently replace the backlight of the Grant Liftback license plate

We place the car on a flat platform, secure the rear wheels with wheel chocks, and engage first gear;
When safety measures have been taken, open the hood, remove the terminal from the battery to avoid a short circuit in the circuit;
Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, unscrew two screws one at a time and remove the assembled lamp housings;
We disconnect the blocks with wires, remove the standard lamps;
We carry out troubleshooting, inspect the contacts, and clean them if there is oxidation;
We install new LED diodes, check their functionality, and connect the battery terminal.

Replacing the Grant Liftback license plate light bulb has been completed.

Note to the driver. Before installing LED lamps, wipe the surface of the base with a rag.
Fatty sweat from the fingers contributes to increased operating temperature, overheating, and premature wear.

Replacement algorithm

We turn off the engine, squeeze the handbrake;
Open the back door;
Depending on the model year, the sequence of actions differs. In the first generation (until 2021), unfasten the casing flap and provide free access to the back of the optics. In the second generation, remove the plastic latch, remove the lamps, unscrew the three nuts.

LED license plate lighting is clearly necessary, both from a safety point of view and as an additional source of light when reversing a car. Not all owners can afford to buy parking sensors.

Negative reviews are largely unfounded. The reason for premature wear is low-quality consumables and the purchase of cheap fakes. Draw your own conclusions.

Today, the traffic lights/brake lights have received this attention! I still don’t change the tradition, I use lensed diodes from MTF P21/5W.

PS Let me remind you about money - MTFs are quite expensive, 500 rubles each, depending on the type of lamp.

PPS Night photos! In principle, the light itself is clear that it is a little more red, because lamps with incandescent filaments are transparent and the color is given to them by the body of the flashlight... According to stopari, the focusing in the photo turned out to be disgusting... But MTF is just a little brighter.

Instructions for replacing the lampshade

An unlit NC may result in a fine from the traffic police, so it is worth keeping an eye on its serviceability. If a lamp burns out, then replacing the license plate light is not difficult (video author: Dmitry Mitrofanov).

To do this you need to do the following:

Open the luggage compartment, through which you can get to the fastenings of the NC lighting unit.
To remove the block, you need to pry it off from the left side with a flat-head screwdriver, carefully releasing the latch that holds it. If the lampshade is held in place by screws, then unscrew them.
By pressing on the lamp on the right, it should be moved to the left. After several clicks, the product is freely removed from the socket.
The unit is pulled out along with the power wires that need to be disconnected. This is done by pressing the latch, which secures the plug with the wires.
After turning the light bulb counterclockwise, it is removed along with the base. A new product is installed in its place.
Then everything is assembled in the reverse order of disassembly. Before screwing in the screws, it is advisable to coat the holes and threads with silicone grease, which will protect the product from corrosion.

After replacement, the NC lighting should be checked.

Regarding the diodes being too bright (in flashlights): excess brightness is removed by adding a resistor with the required number of Ohms. There are diodes in the DRL itself, they look beautiful. DRLs do not have a lighting function as such, they are simply a designation of the vehicle or vehicle dimensions. Installing diodes in the near side is not an option, because The headlight itself is not designed for them; all the re-reflection of light rays comes from the filament. It’s easier to buy new optics tailored for diodes, but it’s not worth the investment for our cars. The downside of diodes is lighting in bad weather.

There are various reasons why an emergency situation may not be covered.

To identify them, turn off the ignition and perform the following steps:

Using a clean napkin, you need to wipe the lampshades from dirt and moisture to identify whether there is dimming of the lamps, condensation, or deformation of the plastic from exposure to high temperatures;
The serviceability of the wiring and fuses is checked by turning on the low beam; if at least one light is on, then the problem is not with them. If the light bulb lights up even temporarily when you tap on the flashlight, then you need to secure the light bulb in the socket.
