Which injectors are better to put on a VAZ 2114

As a rule, when tuning cars, problems with fuel supply are very often associated in one way or another with the fuel pump or injectors. Here I will describe simple but nevertheless the most effective methods for checking the fuel supply system and criteria for selecting its components. Injectors.

There is an opinion on the Internet that injectors are selected solely based on the achieved engine power. Therefore, you can often read on forums phrases like “standard injectors are enough for up to 120 horsepower, Volgov injectors are enough for up to 160, and so on.” This opinion is naturally fundamentally incorrect. The forces received at the stand do not at all mean that there are “enough” injectors, and the forces not received do not mean that there are “not enough” injectors, respectively. There are known cases when engines with 560 injectors (Volga), which actually have a power of about 160 horsepower, after 15-20 minutes of driving along the highway at speeds close to maximum (usually on some kind of country trip) suddenly suddenly failed, although in “traffic light races” The engines drove great before this for 10-20 thousand km. During disassembly, all signs of mixture depletion and detonation were observed (white insulator on the spark plug, broken partitions and characteristic potholes on the displacers). In fact, there were initially not enough injectors in such engines; it’s just that when starting from traffic lights and driving in city traffic, those small areas of mixture depletion in the area of maximum power speed could not have such a detrimental effect on engine operation, due to the very short duration of the engine being in this mode . The combustion chamber parts simply had time to cool down at the moment of switching. Driving along the highway with the pedal to the floor and possibly external weather factors that were not taken into account during tuning (for example, cold weather and increased air density) immediately led to a lean mixture and engine failure. To exclude this from happening in your engine, you need to know the criteria for selecting injectors: For example, injectors should always be selected with a margin of performance. This ensures that in the event of a sudden change in weather conditions or, for example, a clogging of the fuel supply system, there will be enough fuel supplied to the engine in all operating modes. The criterion for choosing performance is determined by the ratio of engine volume, the efficiency of the working process in the engine and the speed at which maximum engine power is achieved. For example, in a rotary engine, the performance of injectors with the same power indicators should be 20-30% greater than in a piston engine, since the working process in it is less efficient and the air filling is usually very high. The most reliable way to choose the right injectors is to consult with a tuner. As a rule, people who tune engines have a good idea of what engine configurations have what fuel requirements. If you are tuning the engine yourself, the easiest way to select injectors is to determine the maximum air flow of the engine. To do this, you can use any diagnostic program. Take a log of the car's acceleration in 3rd gear and look at the peak value of the mass air flow (it is expressed in kilograms per hour).

For example, let’s take one of the options for easy tuning of the 2112 engine (increasing the displacement) with a maximum air flow of 315 kg/h. For such an engine at full power, a mixture composition of about 12.5 is required and the safety factor for the injectors must be at least 1.1 and the number of injectors is 4; it is not difficult to calculate the required injector performance.

(320 kg/h / 4 nozzles / 12.5 * 1.1 * 1000 g / 60 min = 117 g/min

According to the Bosch reference book, the performance of standard VAZ injectors is 103.5 g/min or (taking into account the density of gasoline 0.75) 137 cm3/min, i.e. it is obvious that in this engine these injectors will not be enough, the next available injectors are bosch 0 280 150 560 from the Volga - 150 g/min, in this case they should be installed in the car, since they will meet the needs of the engine with a large margin.

Which injectors are better to install on a VAZ-2114

The first, but not the last sign of injector failure is increased fuel consumption.

In addition, detonation, failures when changing engine operating modes, and unstable idling may occur.

For 2021, AvtoVAZ is installing several types of injectors and many of them are interchangeable. Today there are several main types - three types of Bosch injectors and three types of Siemens injectors. First, let's look at Bosch injectors.

BOSCH injectors

Their use depends on the engine size and the number of valves. There is no particular variety in VAZ-2114 engines, so there are only the following options:

Checking injectors without removing them

First of all, with the engine running, you need to feel the injectors with your hand. Normally they vibrate as they constantly open and close. If any injector does not vibrate, this indicates that it is not working.

You can also additionally check the operation of the injectors by unscrewing the cap nuts with the engine running. If the speed decreases when unscrewing, the injector is working. If, after unscrewing the nut on any injector, the speed does not change, this indicates a problem with the injector.

There are several reasons for failure:

  • the control signal does not arrive;
  • No power supply;
  • the injector has failed.

At the initial stage, you need to check the power to the injector, connectors, contacts, wiring, etc. If the diagnostics are inconclusive, the injector may need to be replaced.

When to change: self-diagnosis

The fuel system of an injection engine has a fairly extensive architecture and faults can only be identified after an accurate diagnosis of each of the system elements. For example, a drop in engine power may be the result of either a malfunction of the injectors, insufficient performance of the fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter.

In addition, jerks and dips, unstable idle and difficult starting, increased consumption, can occur when the injector is simply clogged.

You can check the injectors themselves directly on the engine without removing them. To do this, just start the engine and remove the wires from the connector one by one. If the stability of the engine changes at the same time, the engine starts to oscillate, then the injector is in order. If, when removing the wires from the connector, the stability of the motor does not change, the injector needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Replacing injectors (full technology)

Before replacing injectors on a VAZ-2114 of any generation, it is necessary to relieve the pressure in the power system.

To do this, remove the rear seat cushion, open the hatch and remove the contact block from the fuel pump. Now it is de-energized and will not build up pressure.

We start the engine and wait a few minutes until all the fuel in the system is used up. The pressure has been relieved, now you can safely remove the old injectors and replace them with new ones. We proceed according to the following algorithm:

    We de-energize the car by removing the negative terminal from the battery.

Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery

Remove the hose from the pressure regulator

Disconnect the electrical connector of the throttle position sensor

Disconnect the connector from the idle air regulator

Disconnect the connector block from the injector wires

Unscrew the fuel rail mounting bolts

We dismantle the fuel rail with injectors

Squeeze the spring clip and disconnect the electrical connector of the injector.

Rock the injector and remove it from the fuel rail.

Installation of injectors is carried out in the reverse order. Before installation, it is advisable to check the integrity of the o-rings ; if they have lost their elasticity, it is better to replace them with new ones. The injectors are installed and ready for further use. Good luck to everyone!

Choosing which ones are better to put

injectors for VAZ-2114

From a good life in VAZ engines, no one changes anything, especially in the fuel system. If the question arises about which ones are better to put

injectors on the VAZ-2114, which means the old ones have expired and they need to find an adequate replacement. Since the car plant does not offer a wide selection of injectors, the task is simplified. What are the best spark plugs to install on Lanos 1.5. Still, there are certain aspects that you need to know in order to choose the right injectors.

Features of fuel injection systems

The advantages of fuel injection systems (FIS) include:

  • constant pressure level in the fuel system;
  • high-quality atomization of the fuel mixture;
  • rapid injection of a combustible mixture;
  • reduction of noise when the motor is running;
  • complete independence of the complex from engine operating modes;
  • possibility of implementing several injections simultaneously;
  • reduction of exhaust gas toxicity;
  • reduction of emissions of solid pollutants into the environment;
  • reduction in fuel consumption;
  • noticeable increase in productivity.

Design and principle of operation of fuel injection systems

The main element of the fuel system is the pump, which creates and maintains the required fuel pressure. There are various designs of pumps, but the principle of their operation is the same.

The main element of the fuel system is the fuel pump

The vehicle itself consists of the following components:

  • fuel lines;
  • fuel tank;
  • fuel filters;
  • fuel pump (FP);
  • fuel rail (TR);
  • nozzles (injectors) for each engine cylinder;
  • fuel pressure sensor located on the ramp;
  • a control unit that regulates the pressure and volume of fuel for maximum efficient operation.

The fuel system of VAZ 2114/15 cars is designed quite simply

Correct operation of the fuel complex allows:

  • reduce the temperature of the coolant in the system;
  • reduce the load on the fuel pump;
  • significantly reduce emissions.

Pressure limiter device

The fuel pressure in the system can be adjusted in two ways - mechanical and electronic.

The mechanical limiter consists of a special plunger with a spring installed in the fuel line. If there is excess pressure, excess fuel is discharged back into the tank through the valve.

The electronic limiter is a more modern device. Electronics allows you to bring fuel pressure to operating values much faster. This significantly increases the efficiency of the vehicle.

Injection nozzles

A modern injection engine uses electromagnetic or electronically controlled injectors. They work like this:

  1. From the fuel rail, fuel is supplied under pressure to the injector.
  2. The fuel enters the cavity, which acts as a spray nozzle.
  3. At the command of the electronic control unit (ECU), the valve in the injector opens.
  4. Fuel enters the injector nozzle.
  5. Fuel is atomized and dosed into the engine cylinder.

This process is measured in milliseconds. Since the operation of the fuel system is regulated by the computer, when repairing and replacing injectors, you should carefully follow the algorithm regulated by the car manufacturer.

When replacing, original injectors or analogues specified in the vehicle’s operating instructions must be used. Otherwise, substandard injectors can lead to failure of other engine components.

Their use depends on the engine size and the number of valves. There is no particular variety in VAZ-2114 engines, so there are only the following options:

  1. Nozzle BOSCH 0280 158 022 The nozzle is marked black, has a productivity of 1.9644 mg/sec, operates under a standard pressure of 3.8 atmospheres. Installed on a 1600 cc engine with 16 valves. Works with January 7.2 controller.

BOSCH nozzle : productivity 1.9644 mg/sec

BOSCH nozzle : productivity 1.922 mg/sec

See:

New injector

may have a thicker O-ring and, accordingly, a longer nozzle. The injectors are completely interchangeable. These injectors can only work with the January 5.1 controller.

In addition, you need to know which engine control controller is installed on the car, since January 5.1 and January 7.2 may require injectors of different capacities.

Siemens Deka injectors

There is no certainty with Siemens injectors, since the plant can install injectors of different markings on the same engine. However, there is a clear difference between the injectors for eight-valve and 16-valve engines .

In the first case, the nozzle

single-flare, in the second - double-flare, that is, it sprays fuel onto each of the intake valves separately.

They are marked as VAZ20734 (orange markings) and 20735 (blue markings). On eight-valve engines, nozzle with a thick torch can be used. Its productivity is 1.662 mg/sec, and the operating pressure is 3 atm. Each of these injectors can be installed on a VAZ-2114 engine.

Restoring the functionality of injectors

An inoperative nozzle can be replaced with a new one or properly cleaned. Repairing injectors is ineffective due to their design features.

The reason for incorrect operation of the injectors may be the presence of impurities in the fuel. The accumulation of deposits in the injector occurs especially intensively when the engine is stopped.

During operation, the injector heats up, and the fuel is not able to cool it. Heavy fractions accumulate in the atomizer, thereby reducing the cross-sectional diameter of its channel. Thus, deposits of 5 microns in size can reduce throughput by 25%. The quality of the fuel-air mixture will decrease with all the ensuing consequences.

Domestic gasoline is not always of high quality. Therefore, the injectors lose their functionality after less than 100 thousand kilometers.

Extending injector life

There are practically no differences in the procedures for cleaning and flushing injectors in 8- and 16-valve engines.

There are several ways to extend the life of sprayers:

  • With low mileage, it is possible to regularly add various additives to the fuel.
  • You can clean the injectors at a service station using ultrasound every 40 thousand km.
  • Solvent cleaning is carried out at specialized service stations and is a very expensive procedure.

Self-cleaning injectors

To clean the injectors yourself you will need:

  • A set of keys and tools for dismantling injectors.
  • Three cans of special cleaner for carburetors or injectors.

    Injectors can be cleaned using special products

  • A piece of rubber hose 15–20 cm long.
  • Two metal clamps.

    The metal clamp ensures a tight connection of the hoses

  • 12 V light bulb.

    To clean the injectors you will need a 12V light bulb.

  • Two-contact button without fixation.

    To temporarily close the electrical circuit, a two-contact button without fixation is used

  • 12 volt charger (suitable for a mobile phone).
  • Four connection terminals.

    For high-quality electrical contact, special terminals are used

  • A strong, sharp pin or needle.

Self-cleaning of injectors is carried out in the following order:

  • The injectors are being dismantled.
  • The injectors are carefully inspected. If there are signs of leakage, the injectors are replaced.
  • The O-rings are removed from the body and nozzle.

    Rubber rings must be replaced

  • The nozzles are temporarily placed in acetone or solvent so that the liquid covers only their nozzles.
  • A simple diagram is assembled. One end of a 15–20 cm piece of hose is attached with a clamp to the lid of the canister with cleaning liquid, and the other end is attached to the inlet of the nozzle. The injector outlet is lowered into a regular plastic bottle to drain the used cleaning fluid.
  • Using a phone charger, the positive wire is connected to the button, and the negative wire is connected to one of the injector contacts. A 12V light bulb is sequentially powered into the electrical circuit from the other contact of the closing button. This is necessary to preserve the injector winding when voltage is applied to it. Next, the wiring from the light bulb goes to the second terminal of the injector.
  • The charger is connected to the network. By pressing the button the circuit is closed. The light will light up and a click will be heard. This means that the injector has opened.
  • Using a spray can, pressure is created in the hose, and the cleaning liquid enters the assembled system.
  • Then the opening of the injector is simulated by closing the circuit with a button. At the same time, the nozzle releases a stream of cleaning liquid into the plastic bottle.
  • The process is repeated several times until the injector is completely clean. A similar procedure is carried out with all nozzles.
  • Cleaning deposits from the spray nozzles is carried out using a pin or needle.
  • The fuel system elements are assembled in the reverse order.

Special products for cleaning injectors

The following products are most often used to clean and flush injectors:

  • LIQUI MOLY is a universal liquid, used for any car.

    LIQUI MOLY is the most popular injector cleaner

  • Wynn's is a chemically aggressive product for high-quality injector cleaning.

    Wynn's is a fairly caustic liquid

  • Carbon Clean is a softer liquid than Wynn's, but it can also be used to clean injectors efficiently.

    Carbon Clean is quite effective when cleaning injectors on your own.

  • Lavr is a more expensive counterpart to Wynn's.

    Lavr has good cleaning properties and a high price

Replacing O-rings

When installing injectors, experts recommend lubricating the O-rings with water-repellent WD-40 or regular engine oil.

WD-40 is used to lubricate O-rings

Before installing new injectors, you should check the condition of the rubber sealing rings and, if necessary, replace them with new ones.

Replacement of O-rings should be carried out very carefully

The gaskets that are installed on the side of the fuel rail and the nozzle must be replaced. You can use a screwdriver to remove them. Installation of new O-rings should be done carefully, without using any tools. Before doing this, they should be treated with engine oil.

At the end of the work, it is necessary to check all connections for leaks by turning the crankshaft several times with the starter.

Thus, diagnosing, washing and replacing injectors on VAZ 2114–15 injection models is not very difficult. All you need is a minimal set of tools and careful adherence to the recommendations of professionals.

in order.
If, when removing the wires from the connector, the stability of the motor does not change, the injector needs to be cleaned or replaced.

How to understand when it is necessary to clean fuel injectors

  • Loss of dynamics during car acceleration.
  • When you press the gas there are jerks and dips while driving.
  • The engine is running rough and unstable.
  • Fuel consumption has increased.
  • It takes a long time to start the engine with the fuel pump running.
  • Black smoke from the exhaust pipe.

There are many instructions and methods for cleaning fuel injectors on the Internet, but we recommend using the most reliable and proven one - cleaning in an ultrasonic stand.

As a matter of fact, I’m interested in which spark plugs are best for Lanos 1.5, I take spark plugs seriously. The car drives every day, 5 thousand a month, so I want it to always start with a half turn and. The pressure has been relieved, now you can safely remove the old injectors and replace them with new ones. We proceed according to the following algorithm:

    We de-energize the car by removing the negative terminal from the battery.
