DMRV Itelma 1118 1130010 how to check with a multimeter?

LADA Granta cars have been produced for quite a long time and have several modifications both in terms of body and engines. In addition, this car has undergone a serious restyling, which also affected the power plants.

Based on this, owners are faced with a certain variety of both electronic engine control units and related electronics: for example, mass air flow sensors.

General operating principles of Grant's air flow sensor

Despite the design variations, these devices operate according to a single algorithm:

  • in the measuring channel (which is a calibrated pipe with installed detectors) there are two platinum filaments and a control thermistor;
  • when an air flow passes, depending on its intensity, one of the threads cools (it is forcibly heated during operation) and changes resistance;
  • using a control unit and a precision resistor, the resistance is compared with the reference, the difference is recorded in real time;
  • using simple calculations, the electronic mass air flow sensor module installed on Grant’s car determines the intensity of air flow;
  • this information enters the ECU (the mass air flow sensor is connected to it), and on its basis the correct formation of the fuel-air mixture occurs.

Important: The internal combustion engine can operate without a mass air flow sensor. However, its operation will not be efficient in terms of power and fuel consumption.

Despite the common task, air flow sensors have different designs and use different technologies for measuring air flow.

  • weathervane (measurement by flag deflection): working on the principle of a pitot tube in an airplane;
  • wire (this is exactly the design provided for in the LADA Granta);
  • film: these mass flow sensors are more accurate and reliable, but their cost is higher than wire ones.

From the point of view of an 8 or 16 valve engine, air flow sensors differ only in the mounting method and the location of the contacts of the connector connecting the mass air flow sensor to the computer. The operating principle is the same, and the measurement parameters during testing are practically the same. Information about which sensor you have in your car will help when purchasing a new device.

if you are guilty of DMR V, try to remove the chip from it, if everything is ok then it is his fault, the check light will light up on its own, but the car should work like with a working DMR V

but they do not have a January 5.1.1 controller.

Are the values for Y5.1.1 the same?

The MAF is like my kirdyk

The fact is that recently there is practically no idling on my car. You let off the gas pedal, the revs jump

In theory, mass air flow rates should not depend on the controller, because mixture composition (ratio of air and gasoline) standard value

“We in cars deal with gasoline and air. A mixture in which 1 kg of gasoline vapor contains 15 kg of air (with a standard oxygen content) is usually called normal. If your car's engine runs on it, its power is quite high with good efficiency.

Let's reduce the air intake to 12.5-13 kg. The mixture, as they say, will be enriched (with gasoline) - it will become the so-called power mixture, because, burning in the cylinders most quickly, it creates maximum pressure on the pistons, and therefore high power. True, efficiency deteriorates quite noticeably, by 15-20% in comparison with the “ideal”. Which one? If you strive for efficiency, you should add a little air to the mixture - up to 16 kg per 1 kg of gasoline. This mixture is called economical. Gasoline consumption becomes minimal, however, at the cost of some power losses - up to 8-10% compared to “power”. A mixture of such a composition is usually called lean. If during combustion only 11-12 kg of air are consumed per 1 kg of gasoline, the mixture is called rich. Further enrichment of 5-6 kg of air per 1 kg of fuel leads to the fact that the mixture’s ability to ignite deteriorates so much that the engine may stop altogether.

You cannot deplete the mixture indefinitely: when there is more than 20 kg of air per 1 kg of gasoline, ignition from a spark will become unreliable and may stop altogether. In the meantime, as long as it somehow works on a lean mixture, there is nothing to expect not only sufficient power, but also, oddly enough, efficiency. After all, the traction characteristics of the car deteriorate so much that the driver is forced to “spur it up” - for example, by switching to a lower gear where yesterday he easily drove in a higher gear.

Not everyone has the necessary experience to correctly assess, without any instruments, just by feeling, the composition of the mixture entering the engine cylinders at various operating modes. True, the traffic police can “assist” him in this by stopping him to check “for CO”. Then the experience gained in this way becomes - literally! - very expensive. "

I wonder who is so smart who guessed to measure the consumption in kg/hour as in BC instead of kg (air)/l (gasoline)?

although you can, of course, calculate based on the nominal gasoline consumption at idle per hour, what exactly (normally) the BC should show in its kg/hour

Prevention of DMRV malfunctions

Since all the sensitive elements of the device are located in the air flow, their performance directly depends on the air quality. The mass air flow sensor is located immediately after the air filter, and the condition of the latter has a direct impact on the performance of the sensor.

  1. It is necessary to change the filter in a timely manner, preventing the filter element from rupturing and dust from entering the mass air flow sensor.
  2. If water gets into the air filter (for example, when driving through a deep puddle), you need to dry it, or better yet, replace it with a new one. The slightest drops of water can damage sensitive sensors.
  3. The use of so-called “zero” sports filters is highly discouraged. The membrane of the filter element has pores of increased diameter, and dust particles fall inside the measuring channel of the mass flow sensor.

How to find out if the flow meter is working

Of course, during routine diagnostics at the service, the connected car scanner will show all faults and OBD-II error codes. However, basic diagnostics can be performed independently.

You can check the sensor based on how the car behaves. Of course, if it malfunctions, the “Check Engine” warning light will come on. To do this, you need to make two trips along the same route with the same load and operating mode. The first option is with the sensor connector connected, the second is with the wiring harness disconnected.

Information: You should not be afraid to operate the engine without a mass air flow sensor. Apart from changing the operating mode and fuel consumption, nothing will happen to the engine.

After two trips (preferably without a break between them), any driver, even an inexperienced one, will feel changes in the behavior of the car.

If the motor operates the same with and without the sensor, it means the mass air flow sensor is faulty or needs maintenance. Significant differences in the vehicle's traction and behavior indicate that the sensor is likely to be faulty.

How to check the mass air flow sensor using instruments

A relatively affordable option is to use a diagnostic scanner. To check the MAF of a LADA Grant, an elementary ELM-327 and the Torque program installed on a smartphone are suitable.

By connecting to the OBD-II connector, you will receive comprehensive information about error codes associated with problems with the formation of the fuel-air mixture. In addition, you can check the supply voltage to the mass air flow sensor and see the signal parameters at the sensor output.

The advantage of this method is that you can check performance with the ignition on and off, as well as monitor dynamic parameters while the car is moving. If you have little repair experience, using these parameters you can determine not only the fact of a malfunction, but also presumably find out the cause of the breakdown.

Replacement of faulty equipment

If the Lada Kalina has become worse to drive as a result of incorrect operation of the sensor, then you should not delay repairs. At first it will seem that the problem is not significant, but this is only at first glance. Over time, the malfunction will become more noticeable, reducing the driving characteristics of the vehicle. After 1-2 months, other engine elements will come under attack. As a result, what could have ended with a short visit to the service station will turn into a lengthy repair.

Car owners are recommended to visit a service center once every 3 months for a technical inspection. If the car is more than 5 years old, then you need to visit the service center once every 2 months.

Testing the mass air flow sensor using a multimeter

If you do not have any auto diagnostic devices, you can use a regular household tester (preferably electronic). The fact is that when measuring the voltage at the signal output of the sensor, accuracy to hundredths of a volt is required. It is advisable to use a multimeter with low measurement error.

First, check the supply voltage in the wiring harness coming from the ECU module.

Important! Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before connecting (disconnecting) the mass air flow sensor connector. This will prevent false OBD-II errors from being generated.

  1. Turn on the car ignition (no need to start the engine).
  2. We check the 12 V supply voltage at the connector (the contact number must be specified in the MAF connection diagram specifically for your LADA Granta model).
  3. We check the supply voltage of the 5 V sensors (similarly, according to the contact diagram).
  4. Disconnect the negative terminal again and connect the connector back.
  5. Turn on the ignition, start the engine and check the voltage at the signal output from the mass air flow sensor (you can use a pin inserted into the back of the terminal block).

  6. A voltage from 0.99 to 1.02 volts indicates that the sensor is working properly. From 1.03 to 1.05 - the mass air flow sensor will soon have to be changed. More than 1.05 volts or no voltage - the sensor is faulty.

Sensor diagnostics

There are several ways to test the performance of a flow meter; let’s consider the easiest and fastest one. To carry out diagnostics, you will need to disconnect the power connector from the mass air flow sensor, but the engine must be running. When the contact is disconnected, the control unit will begin to operate in emergency mode. Accordingly, as a result of this, the fuel dosage will be carried out according to the parameters that were received from the throttle.

It must be taken into account that in this case the speed of the power unit can increase sharply to 1500 per minute. However, this does not happen in all cars. With the flow meter turned off, you need to drive the car a little. If you notice that the performance of the power supply has improved, then most likely you need to change the mass air flow sensor (video author - Xie Dan).

Where to buy car accessories

Spare parts and other products for the car are easily available for purchase at auto stores in your city. But there is another option that has recently received significant improvements. You no longer need to wait a long time for a parcel from China: the AliExpress online store now offers the opportunity to ship from transshipment warehouses located in various countries. For example, when ordering, you can specify the “Delivery from the Russian Federation” option.
