The wipers on the Priora do not work but the engine runs

The Priora's windshield wiper does not work in all positions.

Consider the moment when the windshield wiper does not work in any position. First of all, you need to check the integrity of fuse F11. It is located in the relay and fuse box inside the car under the driver's side panel. It is better to check the integrity with a test lamp, this will allow you to find out whether there is power on it or not. If the fuse is faulty, it must be replaced. If there is no power on it, then you need to check the activation of the ignition switch unloading relay K4. To check it, just replace it with any nearby one. To check, you can use any universal relay located in the same block.

If the fuse is working properly, you need to check the power supply. If there is no power, then you need to remove the connector from the windshield wiper switch and check for the presence of a positive signal at terminal 53a with the ignition on. If there is power, connect connector pins 53a and 53 or 53a and 53b with a piece of copper wire. In this case, the windshield wiper should start working at low or high frequency. If this does not happen, then, without removing the jumpers, check for the presence of a positive on terminals 1 or 2 of the windshield wiper connector. If there is no power, then you need to find an open circuit. The most likely location is the connector connecting the instrument panel wiring harness and the front wiring harness.

If there is power, check pin 5 of the windshield wiper connector with a test lamp. A dim glow of the lamp indicates poor or absent contact in the negative wire and the car body. If the circuits are working properly, the electric motor of the windshield wiper gearmotor or the thermal fuse is faulty.

The fuse protects the motor from overheating due to freezing of brushes or other jamming of drives. It is located under the gearbox cover and requires replacement if it malfunctions. The circuit is also checked when the wiper does not operate at low or high speed.

Windshield wiper repair

Repairs should begin by checking the fuses and relays located in the mounting block. You should also check the bimetallic fuse in the gearbox. The cause may be deformation or damage to the levers. They can touch the car body. During repairs, a visual inspection of the condition of the levers is performed.

The cause of the malfunction may be damage to the wiring, which begins to short to ground. The check is carried out using a test light.

Wiper connection diagram

The washer reservoir may leak. This is possible due to a violation of the integrity of the housing. In this case, the tank must be replaced or the leak repaired.

The Priora windshield wiper does not work in intermittent mode.

If the windshield wiper does not operate intermittently, then first of all you need to check the condition of fuses F20, F22 and F23. Defective fuses should be replaced. If the fuses blow again, do not install jumpers (bugs) in their place. Installing a jumper may result in a fire. First of all, it is necessary to eliminate the short to ground in the wire protected by this fuse. When searching for a short circuit, pay attention to the places where the wires contact the body. At places where they pass through walls where there is a risk of damage to the insulation.

as well as turning on relay K12. If the relay does not turn on, then swap it with relay K6 and repeat the test. If the relay also does not turn on, check the integrity of the wire connecting terminal 88 of the relay and fuse block with terminal 8 of the automatic windshield wiper and lighting control unit. If the wire is OK, check the power at terminals 3, 9 and 20 of the windshield wiper control unit with the ignition on. If not, eliminate the fault; if present, replace or repair the control unit. If K12 closes when you turn on the intermittent mode, then remove the relay from the socket and bridge pins 87 and 30 in the socket with a copper wire. Remove relay K6 from the socket and check with a test lamp the presence of power at pin 30 of the socket. If not, repair the broken wire or poor contact in the connecting wire.

The wipers stopped working - we find out and eliminate the cause

Poor quality work of any component and element of your car is not just discomfort during the trip, but also a certain irritating factor. Every time you have to deal with the fact that some piece of technology does not work in a decent way and does not offer a high enough quality of functioning. This is especially difficult for idealists, for whom everything should work at the highest level and without problems. One of the most annoying problems is the failure of the wipers. If the windshield wipers stop working, wave randomly, or stop when the control knob is turned off right in the middle of the glass, you should think about possible problems. Here we should highlight several main components that can break:

  • trapezoid,
  • wiper fuse,
  • intermittent wiper relay,
  • power handle,
  • other elements.

You can find the cause yourself, or also seek help from specialized forums where similar problems are discussed. Often on forums you will find the same symptoms of a problem and you can easily repair your car. If the wipers stop working, you will have to do something quickly. Otherwise, you will have to experience significant difficulties when traveling in rainy or simply wet weather. If the wipers stop working in winter, then the inability to clean the glass from sticking dirt and constantly sticking snow will simply not allow you to drive normally. You will have to stop every two minutes and clean the windshield. Let's look at the most common problems with wipers in modern cars.

The Priora's windshield wiper does not turn off.

If the wiper does not stop working when the switch is in the zero position, then it is necessary to check the serviceability of the contacts of relay K12 or replace it with a known good one, for example, by swapping places with relay K6. If the malfunction recurs, you need to check the ground connection of the wire from terminal 88 of relay K12. You also need to check the connection of the negative wire of the electric motor to ground.

Lada Priora cars have two front wipers and one rear wiper. Every car enthusiast knows that their main task is to clean the glass from rain in the fall and from snow in the winter. However, devices do not always perform their function. Sometimes the car owner notices that they work slowly and poorly, function disgustingly in first gear, or do not move at all. There may be several reasons for this, each of them can be identified and eliminated at home. Today we’ll talk about why the wipers on the Lada Priora don’t work and what to do in such a situation.

When do you need to change wipers on Kalina?

It often happens that the wiper drive system works, but marks remain on the windshield that interfere with normal visibility. In this case, the wipers need to be replaced. Previously, domestic cars were equipped with brushes, into the frame of which a rubber part was inserted, which cleaned the glass. But recently frameless brushes have been used.

They work better, and their resistance to different weather conditions is higher. Although frame brushes are cheaper, frameless brushes will last longer. They can operate efficiently from 1 to 1.5 million cycles.

When planning a replacement, you need to consider the size of the wiper blades. For the Lada Kalina, this is a 600 mm blade on the driver’s side of the windshield and a 400 mm blade on the front passenger side. On the rear window, the standard blade is 360 mm long. The rear wiper is replaced much less often than the front ones. They wear out much more slowly because they have to be turned on less often.

Replacing brushes on a Lada Kalina is a process that does not require any special knowledge or any tools. You just need to remove them by unlatching the locks, and put new ones in their place, pushing them until the lock clicks into place.

Freezing of devices

The problem of brush failure in winter is quite common. Often car enthusiasts start looking for a cat in a dark room, disassembling the system and trying to find a breakdown where there is none. In fact, the reason may lie in elementary things, namely freezing. This often happens in the following cases:

  • when the car is left in the open air after using water wipers;
  • when the car ends up in an unheated garage.

Therefore, before disassembling, first try to find out if everything is normal with your brushes. Are they frozen to the windshield or rear window? Folding up the wipers after parking the car will help prevent this.

Trapezoid - the mechanism for direct operation of the wipers

One of the most complex mechanisms in the wiper system kit is the trapezoid. Today, no car manufacturer has such a reliable wiper drive mechanism to guarantee long-term operation of the device. Banal jamming of brushes or excessive emphasis on the glass, improper activation of the wipers, freezing to the glass in winter - all these reasons can be detrimental to the trapezoid. Among the possibilities for restoring this mechanism, it is worth highlighting only a few possible steps:

  • purchasing a new trapezoid is often the best step for domestic cars, in which the wiper mechanism costs about 1000-1500 rubles;
  • for foreign cars, purchasing a new trapezoid will cost exorbitant amounts of money, so in this case, repairs should be made and broken parts restored;
  • Often the bushings and tips in trapezoids fail, which are often plastic and are terribly resistant to frost, so they can simply be replaced;
  • if it is not easy to find a repair kit for a trapezoid for your car, you can try installing bushings and other parts from other cars of a similar class;
  • Direct replacement of the trapezoid is necessary if even repair work does not eliminate the problem, or after repair the mechanism begins to tap during operation.

Any sounds coming from the trapezoid may be a harbinger of its death. This is exactly the sign that indicates a possible failure of the entire device. However, you should not change the trapeze immediately after unpleasant sounds occur. Before replacing, you can wait until the device completely fails or try to eliminate the sound by tightening the components of the trapezoid using standard tools. It's not difficult and can be done right in your garage.

Mechanical reasons

Wipers can break at any time of the year. For example, it may not work well in the 3rd position of the switch or not respond at all to certain modes.

In this case, the reasons may lie in the electrics, so carefully study the electrical circuit of the car and the connection of the wipers in particular. Let's look at the main symptoms of problems and find out what leads to this.

  1. When you turn on any mode, there is no click from the thermobimetallic fuse. If there is no response to your attempts to turn on the wipers, fuses F11 or F20 may have failed. You also need to make sure that the contacts have not been oxidized.
  2. If a click is heard, but there is no reaction, it means that the electrics are working properly, but the problem is with the mechanics. Here we return to the previous problem with brushes freezing. Alternative options are skewed drive rods or a wedge of gears.
  3. Intermittent movement of brushes. The problem lies in relay K6 or K12. Simply replacing it is enough. Using the control unit, you can set the necessary program for relay K6.
  4. If the wipers do not go to the first position, there may be a program failure in the control unit or it has completely failed.
  5. If the engine of the device is running, the wipers twitch, but do not move completely, you will need to make sure that everything is fine with the crank mount.

It is also possible that the device’s motor may fail. You can check its performance using a standard multimeter or a 12-volt light bulb. It is recommended to ensure that the wiper switches are working properly. Perhaps the problem lies precisely there. If nothing helps at all, then perhaps the reason lies in the mounting block itself. Repairing it yourself is impossible, so you will have to turn to professionals. Also, the car enthusiast can install a new mounting block and solve the problem this way.

Wipers: problems and solutions

Do you also agree that wipers are a real hassle? Now they creak, now they smear, now they smear... What do they need, in the end?

It would seem that a windshield wiper – what’s so complicated about it? A simple rubber band mounted in a metal frame, and why the hell does it cause so much trouble for the driver. And he knows his worth, just try to ignore it, he will instantly provoke an emergency situation or, even worse, an accident. After all, wipers clean the glass, providing visibility in the most difficult moments: in bad weather, in difficult road conditions, when overtaking on wet asphalt.

So why do they often sabotage the process - leaving streaks of water and dirt, jumping on the glass and squeaking mercilessly? The reasons may lie either in the brushes themselves or in accompanying circumstances.

It's your own fault!

Yes, most often the janitor himself is to blame. First of all, its most important part wears out - the rubber blade, the so-called cilium. Its working surfaces are two longitudinal edges, precisely molded at a certain angle. The width of the edges at the point of contact with the glass is minimal - about 0.01–0.015 mm.

This ensures the removal of all foreign particles (water, snow, dust, dirt) from the glass with a low coefficient of friction. Due to the fact that with each stroke of the wiper the blade rests on one side or the other, the edges work alternately. These thin edges wear off over time and, as they become rounded, can no longer remove from the surface of the glass everything that prevents us from seeing the road situation.

Thin streaks of water on the glass may remain due to local damage to the rubber, and sometimes due to a speck of debris stuck under it.

If the eyelash is so old that the lower, working part has come off, keep in mind: your glass may be scratched the first time you turn it on. And removing traces of broken wipers on glass by polishing is not a cheap pleasure. In addition, the frame hinges of frame wipers wear out. For this reason, the angle at which the rubber band tilts with each stroke of the windshield wiper is disrupted, and the quality of cleaning decreases. In addition, due to loose hinges, in this case, jerking of the brushes, their rattling and even damage to the glass in the form of scratches are possible.

A “passenger” wiper from a serious manufacturer is designed for 1.5 million wiper cycles, but there are many factors in operation that shorten this period.

Who came up with “zero” maintenance and what is it?

Abnormal operation of brushes can also be explained by incorrect selection of brushes when replacing them. Or rather, a mistake with the choice of fastening. The fact is that after 2000, some automakers began to deviate from standardized brush fastenings, using one or another of their own proprietary latches. In some cases, the differences between different types of latches may be barely noticeable: as a result, the wiper seems to be kept on a leash, but has excessive freedom.

Care should be taken when choosing frameless type brushes, known as AeroTwin. They may fit your car in length and fastenings, but due to the design features they will not fit well to the glass if it has a high degree of curvature. These wipers are best suited to cars with slightly curved windows.

You know. In my opinion, this is a motor reducer (motor gear) for the trapezoid wipers (it has a so-called command gear). I had a similar problem a long time ago on 09. I cured it by replacing this mltorcheg.

Added after 5 minutes 48 seconds:

Well, at the same time, make sure that all sorts of rags, etc., are not hanging on the windshield wiper trapezoid. (they also do not contribute to his good work)

In general, all winter I was tormented by all sorts of problems with the windshield wipers, the leashes seem to be powerful, they squeeze well and the brushes rub like crap, I went to AUTO 49 (from work nearby) bought 2 frameless wipers from ALCO and lo and behold! With one swing the glass is knocked clean

I went and was happy for a week. Then in the morning I found bare sticks (someone had stolen them), cursed, installed a tattered wiper on the back cover, drove to work and bought the same ones (I didn’t say that they were very expensive, but more expensive than frame ones). And just a couple of weeks ago, history repeated itself, and a week later the mirror was broken off, it was a great pity that the mirror was anti-reflective and heated. bastards

In the end I bought cheap champions and I’m angry about driving

))))

In general, I’ll tell everyone a secret about a huge plus of the Lada – the price of all spare parts

Many friends worry about foreign cars, but if something happens, I can simply replace it with a new one, even a motor with a trapezoid and levers. The same goes over bumps, driving like a tank, the suspension will break, I’ll buy a new one and won’t even bother)))

There was PARADISE in the USSR - wherever you look, there was a DISTRICT council, a DISTRICT executive committee, a DISTRICT committee, and so on. And in this state, wherever you spit, there is an Administration.

All current life in three sentences: On a warm and sunny May day on the high bank of the river, a team of workers was building a cowshed. They worked fervently, cheerfully, with fire and swearing. It turned out shitty.

SMSha Well, it’s clear that it’s cheaper to repair and fix than to buy new ones, I’m talking about, for example, pads, discs, and all the consumables, anyway you have to buy new ones

the price of which is just pennies compared to a foreign car, for example, on a Volvo S40 front discs 4500 pads 2500 - compare with the classics On Peugeot pads on average front 1800-2200 rear 2000-2500

This is the interest of our car, because you can tinker with it, like your favorite toy, tinker with it, improve it, modernize it, there’s a ton of spare parts, a ton of tuning, a ton of services. If you have steady hands, you can do everything yourself

No time? Cold? Laziness? - came to the service and sit and wait.

My first car was a Honda Prelude, this is the song, this is the song

)) It drove great, I have never seen a more stable car in this class, power steering, comfort, power. There are NO spare parts at all, something from the Accord fits, everything is made to order, wait a month in the best situation, at exorbitant prices, out of 10, at most 1 service even takes a look at anything, you have to open the hood yourself and it’s immediately clear that apart from oil and washer fluid, you don’t need anything you will do it))

Maybe I’m the only one who thinks that everything is cheap, I just work with foreign cars (I sell spare parts) and constantly compare prices with our cars

Wipers work slowly - trapezoid repair

In a previous article I wrote about replacing the trapezoid and motor, and did this along with one necessary repair. Last night, when I turned on the wipers on my Kalina, I noticed that they practically did not move.

In short, they were barely crawling on the glass, although a couple of days ago everything was fine! At first I thought that the problem was in the wiper blades, but when I bent the arms a little, I realized that the blades had nothing to do with it.

It was decided to remove this entire structure from the car and see what was the matter.

So, the first thing you need to do is remove the Kalina wiper trapeze. Then, having disconnected it from the motor, try how easily its levers move by hand.

In my case, one side (the driver's wiper) moved normally, but the other side moved with such force that I was even surprised how the motor was even able to move this lever.

In order to solve the problem with the slow operation of the wipers, it is necessary to remove the shaft with the splines that is difficult to move. In general, to do all this, you will need:

  • Pliers
  • Penetrating lubricant
  • Litol lubricant or similar
  • Hammer
  • Thin screwdriver

So, the first thing you need to do is use pliers or your hands, if possible, to remove the rubber band from the shaft, as shown clearly below:

Then use a thin screwdriver to pry up and remove the retaining ring, as shown in the photo:

And we take out all the washers that are mounted on the shaft, there are several of them:

To begin with, now you can simply try spraying penetrating lubricant on the shaft, perhaps it will penetrate inside the hole and help ease the movement:

If this does not help, as was the case in my case, then it is necessary to knock the shaft out of the seat of the trapezoid body. To do this, screw a nut onto the shaft thread and gently hit it with a hammer, thereby knocking it out:

As a result, we get the following picture:

As you can see, a strange coating has formed on it, which must be removed with fine sandpaper, as I did:

And lubricate the shaft with thick lubricant, I personally used lithol:

And after this has been done, you can insert the shaft back into the trapezoid body and try how easily it can move there. Personally, in my case, everything immediately went like clockwork. After installation, the wipers began to work perfectly, even better than in the last few months.

Repair of wipers on VAZ 2107

Wipers play an important role in the operation of any car. The VAZ-2107 car is equipped with a pair of wipers that clean the windshield when it rains. Operating a vehicle without wipers is strictly prohibited. When your windshield wipers refuse to work, it's time to get them repaired. There are a lot of reasons for the malfunction of windshield wipers, so in the material we will pay attention to the features of repairing these products on a VAZ-2107 car.

What to do if the wipers on a Priora are slow

The performance of wipers depends on many factors. How to check the performance of windshield wipers? An aspect of proper operation is the ratio of timing to the number of strokes of the wiper blades.

If the principle of operation of the device is not violated, then the number of progressive double strokes must be at least 35, which, in turn, is prescribed in the rules of traffic malfunctions. If the wipers work slowly on a Priora, it is necessary to diagnose and eliminate the corresponding malfunction.

Windshield wiper device

Before repairing faulty wipers, you need to understand their design features. The main components of wipers are:

  • Electric motor.
  • Electric washer pump.
  • Circuit breakers.
  • Control relay.
  • The switch is a three-position switch that regulates the speed of the brushes.
  • Brushes.

Actually, this is what cleaning the windshield from rain, dirt and dust in the summer is based on. If the wipers of the VAZ 2107 do not work, then the cause of the breakdown must be sought in one of the listed elements. What are the main types of malfunctions, we will consider further.

Possible windshield wiper malfunctions

The main types of malfunctions include the following reasons:

  • the switch has failed, which happens in frequent cases;
  • the fuse has blown, which could have happened as a result of an overload of the electric motor, water getting on it or overheating of the wiring;
  • poor circuit contact or lack thereof;
  • windshield wiper motor malfunction;
  • breakdown of the VAZ 2107 windshield wiper relay.

If the breakdown consists of a blown fuse, then replacing it will not be enough; it is also necessary to find the true cause of such consequences. Next, we will consider the main types of wiper malfunctions on the VAZ-2107 with a detailed description of their solutions.

The wipers stopped turning on

If the wipers on a VAZ-2107 do not work in two switch positions, then the reason is most likely hidden in a blown fuse. This element is located on the fuse block and serves to protect the circuit from overloads and short circuits.

Checking the fuse is the first thing you need to start repairing. To check, you should use a tester, or simply exchange it for a known good one of the same rating. In rare cases, fuse contacts may oxidize and need to be cleaned and replaced.

Windshield wipers do not operate in intermittent mode

If a situation arises in which the wipers do not function in interrupt mode, then the breakdown should be looked for in the wiper relay. The cyclic operation of the products is ensured by closing and opening the contactor of the control relay. To check, we try to supply power to the relay block. In practice it looks like this:

  1. the relay is removed;
  2. use the switch located near the steering wheel to turn on the wiper switch;
  3. Using a tester, you need to check whether there is voltage at the terminal.

If there is no power, the switch needs to be replaced. The reason may be a break in the control circuit, so it is necessary to find and eliminate this defect. If there is power, but the relay does not operate, then it needs to be replaced. The relay cannot be repaired, so it only needs to be replaced.

The electric motor of the cleaner does not function

If the electric motor does not work, but there is voltage at its contacts, then the problem is in the device itself. This could be wear on the brushes or failure of the windings. The brushes wear out over time, and the winding fails when the motor is overloaded. These products can be repaired, but for this you need to contact a workshop.

The wipers do not reach the extreme point

Often, owners of domestically produced cars are faced with a problem when, when turning off the wipers, the blades stop at the point where they were, that is, they do not return to the lowest position. The problem with such incorrect stopping of the brushes is directly in the drive gearbox. The gearbox is equipped with a limit switch, which is activated by a cam. The cam is designed to control the position of the brushes after the power to the switch lever disappears.

A breakdown occurs mainly when the driver turns on the windshield wipers that are frozen to the glass. As a result, the gearbox fails and must be replaced with a new one.

Refinement of wipers

When it rains heavily, the seven's windshield wipers work perfectly (in constant mode). The disadvantage is the fact that during light rain (intermittent mode), the brushes can rub idle, wearing out and scratching the glass. This occurs due to a non-optimal pause between swings. This problem can be solved by modifying the wipers. We will find out further how to modify the wipers on the VAZ-2107.

Modification of the VAZ 2107 wipers consists of changing their operating frequency, or the possibility of its smooth adjustment.

  • Initially, you need to remove the relay, which is located in the cabin, near the hood opening lever.
  • It is necessary to remove the relay cover and replace the installed 62 kOhm resistor with another one whose resistance is 30 kOhm. This will reduce the wiper response interval from 4 seconds to 2 seconds.
  • The resistor is soldered to the board on one side only.
  • It is necessary to solder wires into the circuit break that will connect to a variable resistance from 100 to 500 kOhm.
  • Once the wires are soldered, the relay can be assembled and installed in place.
  • The device in the form of a variable resistor must be placed in a convenient place on the control panel, since it will be used to switch the operation of the brushes.
  • This connection diagram allows you to select the optimal mode of operation of the windshield wipers in the range from 2 to 10 seconds.

After the circuit is assembled, you can turn on the wipers and check their functioning. The variable resistor looks like a regular regulator, which is shown in the photo below.

There is another simpler way to upgrade windshield wipers that does not require working with a soldering iron. Ready-made relays with pause adjustment are sold on the market. You just need to buy a similar relay and install it instead of the standard one. You can learn more about this in the video below.

Such a simple modification will significantly increase the service life of the brushes, which is also important for drivers. To summarize, it is important to note that repairing windshield wipers is not a difficult process, but in order to repair or find the cause of the breakdown, you must approach the situation wisely. Determine specifically how the wipers do not work, and only then look for the breakdown.

There is no intermittent wiper mode - looking for a relay

Often, along with the lack of intermittent mode, problems arise with returning the windshield wiper blade to its original position. In this case, the culprit of the situation is a burnt-out relay. At the same time, the mode of continuous strokes of the windshield wiper blade is present, as well as the mode of accelerated cleaning of the glass. These options for operating the windshield wiper are designed to bypass the relay; they are implemented directly from the handle for switching on the wiper operating modes. When a relay fails, you simply need to replace it by following this procedure:

  • searching for the installation location of the relay in your car - again, forums, the car’s operating instructions or recommendations from specialists who repair your car will help;
  • Next, the non-working relay should be removed from the installation location, the device number should be rewritten so as not to make a mistake when choosing a new electrical device to replace it;
  • go to the store or order on the Internet an original production relay with the same catalog number to ensure normal operation of the wiper on the car;
  • Having received the device in your hands, take a good look at it, make sure that this is exactly the element that was originally installed in your car at the factory;
  • turn off the ignition, be sure to check that the wiper switch is in the “off” position and insert the relay into the slot from which the non-working device was removed;
  • turn on the ignition and check the quality of the wipers, taking into account the new installed electrical part.

The operating modes of wipers on budget cars are often quite poor, so you can develop them by installing a relay from the same manufacturer, but with different parameters. For example, it is popular to install not a simple wiper relay on domestic cars in the basic configuration, but a special relay with adjustable brush response pause. This is a good option that can significantly improve the emotions of driving a car and make the driver’s job easier.

Fuses and other electrical connections

Not the last option for a problem in the wiper operation system is electrical connections and circuits. The first step is to check the fuses, which tend to fail and simply do not allow electric current to flow to the right place. Most cars have fuses under the hood; some models should be examined for a fuse box in the passenger compartment.

Broken wires can also be one of the possible problems. If, for example, after a garage service your wipers do not work, it is quite possible that the technicians cut the wires and did not fix the problem. You should trace the wiper circuit, if possible, but it is better to take the car to a normal station and order a proper repair of this problem.

Why do the wipers turn on automatically when you turn on the ignition?

Don't know why the wipers turn on when you turn on the ignition, and you can't stop it? You can, of course, turn off the fuse and drive without wipers for a while, but the problem must be solved completely.

The classic way to solve the problem usually comes down to two options: disassemble the steering column switch and clean the inside, or install a toggle switch responsible for separately turning on the wipers. But in fact, there are much more effective solutions to this problem.

Refinement of windshield wipers on Priora

Priora owners note two drawbacks of the windshield cleaning system: slow operation of the wipers and 4 working strokes of the wipers when the washer is turned on, when two would be enough. The article discusses the reasons for these shortcomings and provides ways to solve them by modifying the Priora windshield wiper.

How to speed up the work of Priora wipers

The problem of slow windshield wipers appears over time. The speed may decrease several times; the windshield wipers begin to move slowly even on wet glass covered in rain. There are three reasons for the malfunction:

  • engine malfunction;
  • poor performance of wiper hinges;
  • problems with the engine power supply.

Motor malfunction may be due to worn brushes or bearings. But the wiper motor is quite reliable, so more often the reason is in the hinges or power supply.

The operation of the hinges can be adjusted using high-quality lubricant. To do this, you need to remove the trapezoid with the motor, wash the hinge joints and apply a lubricant that does not thicken at low temperatures.

Power supply problems are solved by updating the Priora windshield wiper circuit. The wiper switch circuit contains many electrical connections and contacts that oxidize over time. As a result, there is a drop in the voltage supplied to the wiper motor, and it does not develop the required power.

For this you will need:

  • 5-pin relay - 3 pcs.;
  • 5-pin relay motor connector;
  • round terminals - 5 pcs.;
  • wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm.

The connection diagram involves installing three relays in the wire gap in front of the windshield wiper motor and does not make changes to the standard car wiring (Figure 1). As a result, the voltage supplied to the engine through the contacts and switches of the wipers only controls the activation of the relays, which supply the on-board network voltage to the engine without loss.

Particular attention should be paid to the insulation of the contact wires. The relay unit must be installed in a suitable plastic case and the holes sealed to prevent moisture from entering, which could cause oxidation of the contacts and damage to the relay.

This solves the problem of slow operation of the wiper motor.

When using the Priora windshield washer, the wipers make four passes instead of two, as on most cars.

This “bug” can be corrected by modifying the Priora windshield wiper. It consists of modifying the windshield wiper relay, after which the number of strokes will decrease.

The work requires minimal skills in handling a soldering iron in order to be able to replace one resistor in the relay.

To upgrade the wiper relay you will need:

  • resistor 40-70 kOhm;
  • screwdriver or knife;
  • soldering iron;
  • solder;
  • rosin.

The number of movements of the wipers when the washer is turned on depends on one of the resistors in the relay circuit. Its resistance is 141 kOhm, and for two cycles a resistor of approximately 51 kOhm is required.

To upgrade the relay, you must perform the following steps:

remove the wiper relay from the fuse panel;

  • use a knife or screwdriver to open and disassemble the relay;
  • heat the soldering iron;
  • remove resistor 140 km;

solder a 40-70 kOhm resistor onto the vacant space (with higher resistance, the wipers can make 3-4 strokes instead of 2);

Note: If a resistor of a suitable value is not available, you can replace it by connecting resistors of a suitable value in series or in parallel. For example, solder two 20 kOhm resistors connected in series (you get 40 kOhm) or two parallel connected 100 kOhm resistors (you get 50 kOhm).

  • assemble the relay housing;
  • install the relay on the fuse panel;
  • Check the functionality of the relay by briefly turning on the glass washer.

The modification of the Priora windshield wiper has been completed. The wipers will perform two strokes.

You can also install an additional pause regulator between wiper movements based on a variable resistor. For this you will need:

  • wires;
  • male and female connectors;
  • variable resistor.

To install the regulator, you must perform the following steps:

  • solder two wires to the resistor;
  • install male and female connectors at the ends of the wires;
  • disassemble the steering column casing;
  • find the yellow wire with a green stripe;
  • pull out the wire connector from the block;
  • connect one wire coming from the variable resistor to the block, the other to the tip of the yellow-green wire disconnected from it;
  • attach the variable resistor in an accessible place (for example, on the steering column);
  • assemble the column casing.

Such modification of the Priora wipers is not feasible on luxury cars equipped with rain sensors.

Reasons for the wipers to operate when the SZ is turned on

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline! Read more"

Whatever solution is chosen, you first need to find the reason for this “behavior” of the wipers. There are several of them. Let's look at the most common ones.

Closure

The first thing any motorist with any level of enlightenment will doubt is the wiring. There must be a short somewhere, he will think. Why does such a malfunction actually occur?

Short-term or long-term operation of the wipers when the ignition is turned on occurs in most cases due to a poor ground connection. To solve the problem, it is recommended to disconnect all points where the wiring comes into contact with ground and clean the terminals from oxidation and deposits. The terminals must then be tightened securely to avoid a recurrence of the situation in the future.

what are the reasons and how to fix it?

Often those who have this car notice that the wipers on the Prior work too slowly, as a result of which visibility deteriorates. This problem is especially typical in winter, when the windows become heavily fogged and covered with snow. Because of this, visibility is greatly reduced, which can lead to dire consequences. To prevent this from happening, you need to repair your wipers on time. However, first it is advisable to understand the cause of the malfunction.

Why windshield wipers do not work well: reasons and solutions

If you notice that the washers on your car are not working well, you need to immediately find out the cause of this problem. Often this is:

Everything can be solved if you approach the procedure correctly. In the first case, it is necessary to choose a solution as a lubricant that does not thicken at high temperatures. If the lubricant does not help, you will have to use a modification. Lada Priora windshield wipers consist of many connections and contacts that create additional resistance, as a result of which the motor power decreases. You can minimize current loss using the following tools:

  • 5-pin connector;
  • three 5-pin relays with socket;
  • wires 25 mm;
  • round terminals.

Reasons for wiper failure

There may be several reasons why the windshield wipers of the VAZ 2114 do not work.

The most common of them are:

  1. Fuse failure.
  2. Malfunctions in the operation of the electric motor.
  3. Breakage of the drive trapezoid or its individual rods.
  4. Broken steering column switch.

The first problem can be solved most simply - you just need to check and, if necessary, replace fuses F16 and F7 (they are located in the common fuse block).

The second reason is the failure of the electric motor (geared motor) driving the device. Such a malfunction is extremely rare, since the electric motor breaks down infrequently, being one of the most reliable elements in the design of wipers.

You can check whether the motor is working properly by disconnecting the rods from it and connecting it directly to the power source. If the rotor does not spin, the gear motor is faulty and should be replaced.

This must be done in the following order:

  • disconnect the electric motor from the fuse box;
  • put a mark on the rod (crank) in order to fix its position;
  • remove the fasteners securing the rod;
  • remove the bolts securing the trapezoid;
  • remove the gear motor.

Installing a new motor is done in exactly the same order, but in reverse order.

Another common reason why the wipers on the VAZ 2114 stop working is the breakage of the trapezoid. You can determine it visually, and, in case of breakdown, replace the entire unit.

It is not recommended to independently restore a worn or bent trapezoid - it is better to replace it with a new, similar one. This will help maintain the correct balance of the wipers and their correct clamping force.

Sometimes it happens that one VAZ 2114 wiper does not work (or works incorrectly), while the other functions properly. The reason for this may be souring of the bushings at the joints of the trapezoid rods. Fixing such a malfunction is simple - just lubricate all the hinges of the moving mechanism. If the reason that only one wiper is working is because its rod or lever is broken, then, again, the entire trapezoid should be replaced with a new one.

If all of the above reasons for the malfunction of the wipers are not confirmed, then you should check the steering column switch with a tester and, if it breaks, replace it with a new one.

Troubleshooting Methods

If the wipers start to stop in the middle of the car's windshield, you must perform the following steps:

check whether the wipers are installed correctly on the drive splines and the condition of the trapezoid

Particular attention must be paid to the drive crank. If assembly errors are detected, they must be eliminated; carefully inspect the drive splines

They can chip, break or wear out, causing the splines to slip and the wipers not returning to their original position. Sometimes the wiper lever may jump out of its place.

The defect is eliminated by replacing worn parts.

The next operation is to check the integrity of the electrical wiring. To do this, you need to check the voltage at the drive connector without turning off the ignition. The voltage should be 12 V. If there is no voltage at the connector contacts, it is necessary to check the integrity of the electrical wiring and the serviceability of the relay sequentially, starting with the fuse in the mounting block. Detected faults must be corrected.

In addition, taking this opportunity, it is recommended to clean and bend the contacts of the windshield wiper drive mounting connectors. Sometimes this also eliminates the defect.

Also, the windshield wipers may not return to their original position due to a defect in the electric motor itself or its switch. In this case, it is necessary to replace the faulty electric motor. The car enthusiast may encounter other, more complex faults that lead to the wipers stopping either in the middle of the windshield or in any other position. In this case, it would be better to contact specialists who will quickly detect and fix the problem.

Therefore, an original solution emerged: when parking a car in severe frost, force the blades to stop in the middle of the windshield. To do this, you just need to break the windshield wiper drive chain and install an additional switch on the car's dashboard.

Having parked the car, for example, at night, the wipers in the middle of the windshield are stopped using a switch. In the morning, after warming it up, using the same switch, the windshield wipers are returned to the transport (initial) state.

My second wiper motor broke down. It started with uncontrollable extra sweeps of the blades. You press the lever up so that the wipers sweep once, but they can sweep several times. You turn on the very first intermittent mode. And sometimes it skips, the wipers wave without stopping several times in a row. I changed the relay just in case, it didn’t help. I pulled the steering column switch, but it didn’t work either. And of course, at the most inopportune moment, in the cold and snow, the wipers simply refused to wave in all modes.

The old motor (factory) was retained. I decided to make one out of two. I took the gears from new ones. I re-soldered the main board with sliding contacts from the old one. And he took the main large gear from the old engine and lubricated the trapezoid.

It turned out to be complete garbage, although it worked for one day. First problem: I smeared the trapezoid with lithol from Auchan. It says minus 40 holds. I stuck the tube in the freezer, it became hard as a stone, I couldn’t even squeeze it out.

Second problem. Although the gears are similar, the geometry is probably different; at certain points they jam.

Third problem. The sliding contacts are heavily ground down. The wipers stopped a quarter of the way, and I had to push them often.

I put it all back in my ass. I reassembled the very last motor. I replaced the lubricant with graphite. I suffered and moved the sliding contacts a little to the side so that they were in the desired position.

I'm tired of this nonsense. I'm really tired of trying to get this little motor. It is difficult to remove it from there when there is a condenser. I've read it, I'll change it to a foreign car. It seems to fit from VW T4. Article number v10-07-0001. But they don’t sell this anymore. People call JP Group 119 820 0300. Price 1600 rubles.

The trapezoid comes in the old type with an axis of 12mm, and the new type with a 10mm axis. I have 10. So this design should make friends with VW without mechanical modifications. Just re-solder the chip.
