VAZ 2107
There are several types of tires for the seven. The industry produces them in seasonal versions:
In order to save money, drivers prefer to install all-season wheels on their cars; their standard size is 175/70R13 82T, where:
175 — profile width;
70 is the ratio of the height to the width of the profile.
R - radial type tire.
13 — landing diameter.
82 - load capacity coefficient.
T is the highest speed developed by a car on such wheels.
VAZ 2114
Tires of two sizes are relevant for the hatchback: R13, R14. Full details can be found in the technical manual. The optimal size is considered to be R13. In summer, such models are completely safe.
R14 tires are considered more suitable for winter. Tires with dimensions 175/65 can be considered an ideal option for driving on snowy roads, as well as icy tracks.
When choosing, be sure to take into account the width of the tire. It will not allow the car to “drown” in the snow; it will only be pushed to a certain depth.
Factory wheel parameters depend on the vehicle configuration. They can be standard or slightly enlarged:
For such tires, wheels on the VAZ 2114 are suitable 14.4x98. Moreover, their width is selected according to the size of the tire. Usually it is in the range of 5-6.
If R15 are installed, the wheels must be 6.0/6.5x15 4x98. For R16 tires – 6.5x16 4x98.
VAZ 2106
The most favorite car in Russia. It was produced with standard parameters - 155R13. It is allowed to install R15, but no more.
I must say that riding on large wheels will not be very comfortable. The enlarged rims will begin to touch the wheel arch, the car will bounce on potholes, and its handling will deteriorate significantly. Therefore, professionals advise against conducting such experiments. The “Six” should only wear tires recommended by the manufacturer. It is advisable to install light alloy wheels, they are much lighter than standard “stamping”.

Which wheels are suitable for the VAZ 2107, selection and replacement
The VAZ 2107 is in some way a cult car, which in the 90s and 2000s gave many Russians “wheels”. The popularity of this model is explained by its low cost. We’re not talking about quality, but the car is quite unpretentious and inexpensive to maintain, which is why it was often bought as a workhorse.
Many of our compatriots still drive the Lada 2107, however, for the most part, they come across examples that are reaching their end of life. Today we will analyze in detail which wheels are suitable for the VAZ 2107, how they are changed, and several other interesting topics.
Wheel selection
The right wheels for a car largely mean the comfort and safety of driving it. Good tires allow you to consume less fuel, accelerate faster, brake harder, and improve vehicle handling.
The rubber goes under the appropriate disc, which is selected according to strength and dimensions (width and radius). The Lada VAZ 2107 is equipped with standard stamping 5Jx13H2 ET 29 from the factory.
Decoding of the marking, by which you can find out all the parameters of the disk:
The bolt pattern of these wheels in mm is 4*98, the diameter at the hub is 58.5 mm, the maximum rim diameter is 15 inches, the wheel offset is from 15 to 30 mm, the width is no more than 6 inches and M12*1.25 bolts.
Interesting to know! On the Lada Seven, wide wheels are installed only during tuning, since they also require tires of the appropriate size, which will constantly cling to these elements due to the fact that the size of the fender liners is limited.
This will lead to friction, which can lead to loss of controllability, unpleasant noise, rapid wear of the rubber and destruction of the fender liners themselves.
Disk options
When choosing wheels for a VAZ 2107, strength, balancing and wheel sizes are taken into account. The main parameters that people pay attention to when purchasing are radius and width. The manufacturer equipped the car with standard wheels marked 5Jx13H2 ET29. The numbers and letters indicate the following:
- “5” – rim width, in inches;
- “J” – profile;
- “13” – disc rim diameter, in inches;
- “H2” – number of humps on the wheel rim;
- “ET” – letter designation of wheel rim offset;
- “29” – rim offset, in mm.
Valid disk parameters are:
- The number of holes and the diameter of the circle on the wheel rims (bolt pattern) is 4x98 mm.
- Hub diameter – 58.5 mm.
- Rim diameter – 13-15”.
- Wheel offset – 15 – 30 mm.
- Recommended width is 5.0-6.0”.
- Fastening elements – M12x1.25.
It is better not to install wider rims on the “seven”. You need to select the appropriate tires for them. They are larger in size than the size of the fender liners, and can touch or rub against the structural elements of the car.
Consequences of installing wide disks:
- Rapid contamination of the side parts of the machine.
- When the wheels turn, they rub against the side member and wings of the body, which leads to intense wear and damage to the car.
- While driving, the tires can touch the brakes, and this can lead to an accident on the road.
- Increased wear on wheel hub bearings, as they will bear more load.
Discs with a small rim offset (the disc will protrude more outward from the car) are also not installed. The hub bearing takes on most of the load, so it can quickly fail or jam.
Discs are divided into forged, stamped and cast. The “seven” is equipped with stamped steel wheels by the manufacturer. They have an average safety margin, are inexpensive and have a long service life. The disadvantage of the equipment is the need for periodic rust treatment, which leads to a rapid loss of appearance.
Particular attention is paid to the 4x98 bolt pattern. The rim has 4 holes for mounting bolts that secure it. The diameter of the circle with holes is 98 mm. The distance between the centers of two closely spaced mounts for the VAZ 2107 is 69.3 mm. In discs used on foreign-made cars, the bolt pattern is 4x100, the distance between centers is 70.7 mm. When installing such imported equipment on a VAZ, an error of 1.4 mm appears, due to which the disk is not secured and is quickly damaged. Therefore, car owners use studs, extended bolts, spacers and eccentrics as fastenings. Incorrect installation leads to imbalance and vibration, wheel fallout and further accidents.
Standard tire parameters
The base tires on the VAZ 2107 are designated 175/70R13 82T, which stands for:
- “175” – tire profile width, in mm;
- “70” – ratio of profile height and tire width, in%;
- “R” – radial type;
- “13” – tire diameter, in inches;
- “82” – tire tonnage, 470 kg;
- “T” – highest sustained speed, 190 km/h.
In addition to the standard tire size R13 82T with a height of 70% of the width, the manufacturer recommends installing tires with a width of 165 mm and wheel size 80R13 82T. Standard elements are low-profile, with a 1-layer steel cord breaker to reduce rolling losses.
When choosing, take into account the following factors:
- Tires with a lower profile often lead to wheel defects when hitting a pothole.
- Rubber with a larger profile does not fit into the wheel arch and constantly rubs.
- Non-standard profile height affects rim length and speedometer speed measurements.
- The maximum wheel size may be larger than the standard, for example R14, R15 and R16, when upgrading a car and converting it into an SUV or sports car, but the tire parameters must match the wheels in terms of bolt pattern and offset, and not touch when turning.
- An underestimated speed index leads to rubber destruction at high speeds.
- Tires with low loads burst when hitting an obstacle while the vehicle is fully loaded.
Choice of tires by season
Tires on the VAZ 2107 are divided into summer, winter and all-season. For year-round use, drivers use all-season tires with the All season designation or with the inscription Tous terrain on the side. The performance of the “Seven” on such tires is satisfactory in any weather conditions, but in summer they are worse than summer tires, and in winter - winter tires.
Experts recommend using 2 sets of wheels throughout the year: with winter and summer tires.
Winter tires are made of soft rubber; the tread has narrow wavy sipes for better grip on the road surface. At negative air temperatures they do not petrify. Studded tires are designed for driving on slippery hard roads (ice, compacted snow). They are not used when driving on asphalt. The use of winter options in the summer season leads to intense wear. The tire designation is applied to the sidewall, markings are “M+S”, “MS”, the “Snowflake” pictogram.
Summer wheels are stiffer due to a lower rubber composition. They are characterized by increased wear resistance, but at low ambient temperatures they have poor adhesion to the coating. The tread lugs have a larger area than winter tires.
The tread pattern can be universal and directional; it is not regulated by the manufacturer. Tires with directional tread have the designation Rotation on the sidewall and an arrow that indicates the direction of travel while moving forward.
Air temperature affects tire pressure. In hot weather it increases and when driving at high speeds it reaches 3-4 atm. If there is a cut or hernia in the rubber, it may explode. The most dangerous thing is the explosion of the front tire, as it will lead to the car skidding.
Before installing the equipment on the VAZ-2107, the driver must know what tire pressure needs to be maintained.
The tire pressure rating depends on the tire size. For front wheels 165/80R13 it is 1.6 atm, rear wheels - 1.9 atm. For tires 175/70R13, the front tire pressure is 1.7 atm, the rear tire pressure is 2 atm.
It is recommended to check every 500 km.

Standard tires
The original wheels also go with the original tires. Their standard designation is 175/70 R13 82T. Let's go through the decoding again:
The manufacturer also recommends a 165 mm wide tire. The wheel size is 80R13. The load indicators are the same. This rubber is low-profile, single-layer steel cord breaker.
Tires should be selected according to the following criteria:
Like any other car, the 7 is equipped with summer, winter and all-season tires. All-season tires, in principle, show good results, but they are inferior to summer and winter tires when compared under the conditions of their “native path”.
Therefore, it is recommended for any car owner to have 2 sets of tires for the cold and hot seasons of the year.
Characteristics of winter tires for VAZ 2107
A winter tire is distinguished by the fact that it is made of softer rubber, which does not allow it to harden in the cold. It has a higher tread.
The design includes many small wavy lamellas, which open when in contact with asphalt, as if sticking to the road surface.
This structure allows you to move well on compacted and even icy roads. Due to the shape of the tread and its size, the tire can paddle well on loose snow.
Such tires are divided into “Velcro” and studded.
Studded winter tires
The principle of operation of the former is reminiscent of suction cups, which we described earlier, but the studs help to better cope with acceleration and braking on icy and compacted roads. Metal spikes “bite” into the hard surface, which ensures better contact with it.
Traditionally, studded tires are considered a more reliable solution for driving on snowy roads. This is confirmed by many test drives that are conducted annually by various companies and auto magazines.
However, such rubber also has its disadvantages:
Firstly, not all regions of our country have snow on the roads all winter, especially in the south, where snowfalls occur once or twice a month and most of the time you have to drive on cold asphalt. In braking on such a surface, Velcro will definitely be better.
Secondly, if you ride on spikes on “bare” asphalt, you will constantly hear an annoying noise.
Thirdly, almost all imported rubber is studded at Russian enterprises - only blanks are supplied. For this reason, the studs are often poorly installed and constantly fall out.
And if the loss of a few pieces is not critical, then when the amount approaches 5-7 percent, the effectiveness of such a tire decreases many times over. Again, this is facilitated by driving on such tires on asphalt.
Velcro (friction)
“Velcro” also shows good results in terms of acceleration and braking on different roads. At the same time, it is not so noisy - even in the northern regions of our country, many drivers prefer just such tires.
Winter tires are indicated by the manufacturer either with a painted snowflake or with the M+S marking (Mud+Snow/Mud+Snow). They will also be easy to recognize by their tread type and increased softness.
Summer tires are stiffer, which is explained by the smaller amount of natural rubber in the composition. This tire wears out much more slowly and performs very well at high temperatures, when winter tires would become too soft to handle serious loads.
Protectors are divided into several types - they are symmetrical and asymmetrical, while within each type you can find a directional pattern and a non-directional one.
Choice of tires by season
Depending on the performance characteristics, tires on the VAZ 2107 are divided into summer, winter and all-season.
Summer tires are more rigid due to their lower rubber content. Due to this, they are more wear-resistant, but at low temperatures their grip on the road deteriorates sharply. Therefore, at temperatures below 7 degrees, even on a clean asphalt surface, the use of summer tires is undesirable. Winter tires remain soft even in severe frost, providing reliable grip on the road surface. However, when used in warm weather, especially in the summer heat, winter tires soften too much, which leads to poor traction and tire wear too quickly. Winter tires on the VAZ 2107 differ from summer tires in their tread pattern. If you do not take into account studded tires, the difference from summer tires is visible at first glance, winter tires have a deeper tread with many slots (sipes) that provide better grip on ice or snow crust. The tread lugs of winter tires have a much smaller area compared to summer tires.
All-season tires are universal. They are able to provide sufficient traction in winter and are not subject to too much wear in the summer heat. However, like everything non-specialized, all-season tires are inferior to summer and winter tires in the corresponding seasons. Its grip on snow and ice is worse than that of winter, and it is too soft and wears out too quickly in the ball compared to summer.
Winter tires on a VAZ are necessarily marked “M&S”, “M+S”, “Mud+Snow” or “Winter”. The letters “MS” (Mud+Snow) mean that the tires are suitable for driving not only on ice and snow, but also on mud. This is exactly what studded tires are, the studs of which allow you to feel confident on a muddy country road. Studless tires can also cope well with mud if they have lugs.
Replacing wheels on a VAZ 2107
How to change a wheel on a VAZ 2107? The replacement procedure is the most standard, however, there are points that you need to know about. In this chapter we will walk through the entire process step by step.
First of all, you need to choose the right place in which to install the car. If possible, it should be level so that the car cannot roll under its own weight, the base should be asphalt or concrete so that the jack stop is more reliable.
Advice! If you are forced to change wheels on gravel or snow, then you need to use wide jack stands that will not allow you to push through an unreliable base, for example, a wide board.
If trouble happens on the road and an urgent replacement is needed, it is recommended to park the car so that you are protected from passing cars. That is, if you change the left tire, you take a position on the left side of the road (oncoming traffic), and vice versa.
To prevent the car from moving away, it must be secured. To do this, use the handbrake or put it in gear. Better yet, do both.
If you are going to lift both rear wheels at the same time, be sure to place wheel chocks or bricks under the front ones.
It often happens that the jack cannot stand it and breaks. Also, it may initially be installed incorrectly by you, which will lead to its failure.
In such cases, you need to insure the car from falling and yourself from unnecessary injuries - place a spare tire directly under the car box. You can also use any strong stop that will not damage the paintwork.
Take the wheel wrench and unscrew the 4 bolts that hold the disc. They can be tightened very tightly, so a lot of force will have to be applied. It is best to use a cross-shaped wrench as it has more leverage.
Advice! Many people kick the key, but you can’t do that. A sharp blow can break both the key and the bolt, which will then be very difficult to unscrew. Therefore, if you can’t move the fastener by hand, you can carefully stand on the edge of the key and push it down with a slight rocking motion.
We do not completely unscrew the bolts, but only loosen them.
The required wheel should be raised above the ground using a jack.
You can use the original one on one rack with a lever, or any other, under a passenger car. Use of the original jack requires caution.
The fact is that if the lever is not installed deep enough into the seat (it is held in place by jamming), it can break off, and if you overdo it, there is a risk of damaging the paint. For this reason, such jacks are practically not produced or used today.
Having raised the car to a height, you can place a high stop under the box for additional security. Next, unscrew the bolts completely and move them to the side. Now they will go easily, perhaps you can even do it with your hands without a key.
We remove the wheel and quickly install a new one in its place.
Please note that there are two studs on the hub - they must fit into the small holes on the disk. This will help you hold the wheel with your hand while you tighten the bolts.
Screw in the bottom bolt first so that the wheel does not warp, then the rest in any order. Tighten the fasteners as far as possible with a wrench, remove all supports from under the box and lower the car to the ground.
Then again you will have to make significant efforts to tighten the bolts. Do everything securely so that loads and vibrations do not loosen the wheel during operation.

Wheels on the VAZ 2107: dimensions, characteristics
All VAZ 2107 car owners know that choosing the right wheels for your car is very important. Not only the quality of control, but also safety depends on this choice. That is why a certain type of tire is provided for each season: summer or winter. But for those who want to save money, all-season tires have been specially created that maintain high quality maneuvering in any weather. Let's figure out how to properly “shod” your iron horse, consider such concepts as “radius”, “caps” and “bolt pattern”.
Cast and stamped wheels and tires for the VAZ 2107: what sizes are there, what are they suitable for
Replacing standard rims with others that are more reliable, functional, or beautiful is not at all difficult. It is only important to know by what criteria to select them, and also to understand how such tuning can affect the chassis of the car, the safety of its driver and passengers.
Wheel disks
A car's wheel rims are part of its suspension. Like any other detail, they have their purpose.
Why are disks needed?
Wheel rims perform several functions at once:
- transmit torque from hubs or axle shafts to tires;
- ensure uniform distribution and compaction of tires around their seating circumference;
- contribute to their correct position relative to the car body and its suspension.
Types of rims
Today, there are two types of rims for car wheels: stamped and cast. The former are made of steel, the latter - from alloys of light but durable metals.
Stamped discs
Each type of wheel rim has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of stamped ones include:
- low cost;
- reliability;
- resistance to shock loads;
- absolute maintainability.
In order to buy a regular “stamping”, just go to any auto store or market. A huge selection, low prices, constant availability on sale - this is what the undemanding car owner needs.
Selecting rims for a VAZ
The manufacturer produces VAZ 2107 cars with wheels marked 5J×13H2 ET29. Designations and dimensions that are complex and incomprehensible at first glance can be deciphered very simply:
“5” is the width of the wheel rim;
“J” - indicates the profile of the wheel rim;
“13” is the diameter of the wheel disk;
“H2” - the presence of two annular protrusions;
“ET” is the size of the disc rim protrusion.
On a VAZ 2107, the wheel bolt pattern has dimensions of 4×98. It is standard. But for some reason, the owners want to use wheels on their VAZ 2107 that have a completely different bolt pattern. For example, some car enthusiasts like more massive wheels, so they want to replace theirs with ones of different sizes. Such small tuning is completely safe and will help you make your car stylish and original. The bolt pattern will also make your car more stable and maneuverable.
In the picture below we will show you how the wheel bolt pattern clearly looks (sizes 4x98 and 4x100).
However, if you are not confident in your abilities and have never performed this type of installation, it is better to have the bolt loosening done by professionals. Otherwise, you will feel vibration when moving.
What is the tire pressure
Tire pressure must correspond not only to generally established standards, but also to the individual preferences of the motorist, so that he is provided with the characteristic convenience when driving. An important point is that pressure affects the stability of the car, its maneuverability and practicality.
If we take into account the standard, then for the front wheels of a VAZ 2107 a pressure of 1.6-1.7 atmospheres is suitable, but for the rear wheels it is within 2.0 atmospheres, since we are talking about a large load due to the location of the luggage compartment, so this is how it is formed uniformity and smoothness of movement.
But there are some points that need to be taken into account for the comfortable and practical use of the vehicle. In the winter season, the pressure must be sufficient, that is, within normal limits, to be able to comfortably cope with poor road surfaces. But in the summer, you can inflate the wheels a little lower than normal, since this ensures a soft ride and practicality.
The fact is that in winter, normal tire pressure is required, since this preserves endurance and practicality in movement without inconvenience.
Which tire should I choose?
Marking of standard tires on VAZ 2107 is 175/70R13 82T.
“175” — tire profile width;
“70” - the ratio of parameters such as the height and width of the tire profile;
“R” is the designation for a radial tire (note that this is not a radius, as most people incorrectly believe);
“13” is the diameter of its landing (namely the diameter, not the radius);
“82” is the load capacity index, which indicates how much pressure can be applied to each tire;
"T" is the maximum speed at which this tire can be used.
VAZ 2107 tire size - tips for choosing tires
How to choose the correct tire size for a VAZ 2107, taking into account the manufacturer’s recommendations
The manufacturing plant installs steel wheels on the VAZ 2107, designed for tubeless tires measuring 13 inches. The tires on the VAZ 2107 can be installed in different sizes: 5JxI3H2 ET 29 or 5'/2JxI3 with a rim offset of 25-30 cm.
When recommending choosing one or another size of VAZ 2107 tires, the manufacturer takes into account the conditions for ensuring maximum cross-country ability, stability, safety and controllability of this model. For example, if you install wheels with a large offset, they can hit the elements of the braking system, but installing smaller wheels will significantly increase the load on the hub bearings, which in turn will cause unpredictable behavior of the “seven” during emergency braking or in the event of a failure of the brake system circuit .
High-profile tires on the VAZ 2107 will contribute to touching body parts at maximum suspension travel, but installing wide tires will lead to their friction against the car's side members or against the wing in sharp turns.
If you install tires with a lower load index than the manufacturer requires, such a wheel may burst with maximum load when hitting an obstacle, and if you install tires with a low speed index, then it may collapse at high speeds.
In addition to the fact that you need to choose the right size of VAZ 2107 tires, you also need to take into account their seasonality. All types of tires are usually divided into three types: all-season, summer and winter. If a car owner uses the car all year round, and winter is always snowy, then, of course, it is better to buy two sets of tires: summer and winter. Winter tires on the VAZ 2107 are made of soft rubber, and their tread has wavy narrow sipes (slots). Such tires do not turn to stone at sub-zero temperatures and cling much better to rough road surfaces. You can also identify winter tires by the inscriptions MS or M+S on the sidewall; there may also be a “snowflake” pictogram.
The possibility of using studded tires on the “Seven” in winter depends on the specific driving conditions. But it is necessary to take into account that studs are used only to improve the grip of the wheel on hard surfaces - compacted snow or ice. In other situations, studs simply do not work, and on asphalt surfaces they even worsen the grip of the wheel on the road.
If you use winter tires on a VAZ 2107 in the summer, this will lead to their intensive wear. But all-season tires can be used all year round. In terms of their performance, such tires behave quite satisfactorily in all conditions, but in winter they are inferior in technical performance to winter tires, and in summer - to summer tires.
As for the rubber tread pattern, it does not play a significant role, since it is not regulated by the manufacturer’s requirements and can be either directional or universal. If the pattern is directional, then there is an arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicating the direction of rotation of the wheel.
