Shock absorbers of any car, be it a domestic VAZ or a foreign car, are the most significant suspension elements in ensuring comfort and controllability. Shock absorber settings largely determine how a car behaves on the road, how safe and comfortable it is. When leaving the assembly line, cars have average characteristics. Over time, due to the condition of the roads and the inevitable wear and tear of suspension parts, every car owner faces the need to replace shock absorber struts. Among the main reasons for replacement, using the example of VAZ shock absorbers, the following faults can be cited:

Today, three types of struts are installed on the Lada Kalina car.

  2. Kayaba struts are a part produced using Japanese technology. It has the best quality and durability. By installing “Kayaba”, you will immediately see a positive result: the car will move quieter and softer. But there is one catch: today these racks are produced under license by Chinese companies, but their quality is strikingly different from Japanese ones. It's hard not to get into trouble.
  3. “Acomi” struts are manufactured by a domestic company and are offered for both GAZ cars and VAZ models, including those installed on Kalina. Everything is good here, but you need to take into account that a one-year warranty is given only if the car owner repairs the car at the service stations specified in the contract.

You can buy SS20 racks. The part holds the road perfectly and eliminates noise, knocks and impacts. Movement becomes comfortable, safe, easy.

Reasons for repair work

During the operation of the vehicle, repair work is carried out in the following cases:

  • poor brake performance;
  • increase in braking distance;
  • oil leak.

If standard shock absorbers are installed on Kalina, then repair work is carried out in the following cases:

  1. Fluid leakage due to deformation or damage to the integrity of the rod seal. Under heavy loads during machine operation, rubber parts quickly fail. There is an oil leak. A similar phenomenon is observed due to the high temperature of the lubricant, which negatively affects rubber parts.
  2. The appearance of a knock - in this case, the front strut support is replaced at the same time as the steering rack. If you tighten the nut, the knocking noise will subside, but will not disappear. While the vehicle is moving, the steering wheel may jam. To fix the damage, it is recommended to replace the spring. The steering shaft is first disassembled. If necessary, replace the steering rack bushing and gear.
  3. A knocking noise may occur if the racks are installed incorrectly.

Replacement of rear struts and front shock absorbers is carried out taking into account the type of structure:

  1. Hydraulic - reliability and practicality. The shock absorber does not come into contact with gases.
  2. With a double-acting valve - experts distinguish between single- and double-pipe designs. The latest products are characterized by low pressure gas pressure (8-10 A). When the shock absorber operates, the inert gas exerts direct pressure on the fluid. Auto mechanics recommend installing such structures during extreme driving. The service life of these devices does not exceed 1.5 years.
  3. Availability of gas pressure boost (maximum 10 A).

When replacing front struts on Kalina, the following products are used:

  1. SAAZ products (standard equipment) - low price and easy installation. At the same time, the car handles poorly and has poor dynamics on difficult road surfaces.
  2. Rear and front struts from Kayaba are produced using Japanese technology. They are of high quality and durability.
  3. Shock absorbers from "Asomi" - service life is 1 year, provided that the vehicle is serviced at the service station specified in the contract.

The SS20 front struts hold the road well. Driving a vehicle becomes comfortable and safe.

Step-by-step instruction

The following tools are used to carry out repair work:

  • wrenches 19, 17 and 13;
  • special key for removing shock absorbers;
  • spring remover;
  • jack;
  • balloon wrench.

The shock absorber struts are replaced with a pair.

Lada Kalina is installed on a flat surface. If the front struts are removed, then blocks are placed under the rear wheels and vice versa. The car is then set to the parking brake.

The front part of the machine is pre-raised. Stops are placed. The front wheels are removed. To prevent the wiring from shorting, the terminals are disconnected and the battery is removed.

Then the rubber seal and brake hose are removed. If the Lada Kalina is equipped with an ABS system, the wheel rotation sensor is removed. The ball joint pin is pressed out. A special puller is used for this. Experts do not recommend performing such work with a hammer.

When dismantling, it is necessary to remember the position of the upper bolt in relation to the strut bracket (to preserve the wheel alignment installation). Then unscrew the 2 nuts and remove the rack fixing bolts. The eyelet is removed from the bracket of the front structure.

Inside the engine compartment, unscrew 3 nuts with which the devices are secured. Installation work is performed in reverse order.

The above step-by-step instructions are followed when replacing the rear struts. Upon completion of the repair work, the strut and shock absorbers are lubricated. Experts recommend doing a wheel alignment.
