Savings on interior
There are many shortcomings - mostly minor, but annoying - related to the interior. It is strongly felt that the manufacturer saved money on it. For example, the handle for adjusting the seat often breaks - it must be handled very carefully. And the gear lever cover is made of low-quality material, so cracks quickly begin to appear on it.
The interior of the car looks unconvincing: the upholstery is made of fabric, plastic is of low quality, the instruments are designed simply and are not durable. Considering the cost of the car, there is nothing terrible about this, what is much worse is that after six months, fragments of the interior begin to make various noises - everything becomes loose, and it is extremely difficult to deal with this. The door seals begin to let in a lot of dust, and this is also not very pleasant. Window regulators are prone to rapid breakdowns: when lowering the glass, jamming or squeaking is common.
Frequent gearbox breakdowns
When driving aggressively, the Granta's gearbox does not hold up for long: the gears begin to “die” one after another, the lever simply does not lock in the desired position. The first two gears usually fail first. The problem with the car is hereditary, it was typical for Kalina, but the manufacturer was never able to solve it - or did not want to.
The reasons for gearbox failure are failures of synchronizers and gears; again, it comes down to the desire to save money. If you drive quietly and don’t bounce on bumps, problems with the gearbox may not arise at all, but fans of fast driving should know that the gearbox on this car under their control is unlikely to last more than a year.
Powertrain overview: engines and transmission
The budget car Lada Granta boasts a full range of engines and transmissions, so every car enthusiast will be able to choose a car to suit their taste and budget. The car may have the following equipment:
№/№ | Engine | Power (horsepower) |
1. | 1.6 (eight valves) | 82 |
2. | 1.6 (eight valves with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group) | 87 |
3. | 1.6 (sixteen valves) | 98 |
4. | 1.6 (sixteen valves) | 106 |
The updated model pleased its fans not only with a new appearance, but also with such technical developments as the plugless piston on the Grant: plugless pistons are used on both 8-valve and 16-valve engines.
You should know! "Granta" has a closed-type liquid cooling system.
The design of such a system involves the forced distribution of coolant among all engine elements that need it, while the liquid is distributed evenly.
The Lada Granta is equipped with several transmissions, starting with a classic five-speed manual transmission, and ending with a torque converter automatic transmission and a robotic gear cushion.
Car enthusiasts note that this time the manufacturer kept its promises and optimized the design of the manual transmission, increasing the gear ratio of the main pair from 3.7 to 3.9. In addition, the new box began to knock and vibrate much less.
Note! The Lada Granta is the very first car under the Lada brand to receive an automatic transmission.
The presence of an automatic transmission was appreciated by car enthusiasts in big cities, as the Lada Granta became the most affordable car with an automatic transmission.
Due to competent tuning of power plants, selection of the optimal transmission ratio and good aerodynamic characteristics of the body, the Lada Granta pleases its owners with low fuel consumption.
Car enthusiasts note that on average, gasoline consumption in the combined cycle ranges from 7 to 8.5 liters, depending on driving style.
Thus, for every 100 km the car will require from 5 to 6.5 liters of gasoline.

Gearbox howl
The gearbox on Grant is generally problematic: even if all gears work, it is prone to “howling.” This shortcoming of AvtoVAZ cars is also a long-standing one and the automaker still cannot cope with it: for Vesta they had to use a French-made box. Granta was deprived of such luxury, so the transmission howl is still the same as in the old models, except that it was made a little quieter. If you have been accustomed to it for a long time, then it will not become a problem, but if you are not used to it, it can be very annoying.
Comparative characteristics
The advantages of the Lada Granta lie in its dimensions: length - 4260 mm, width - 1700 mm, height - 1500 mm. Ground clearance is 170 mm. The original hood and aerodynamic front bumper are the external features of the Lada Granta sedan model. The luxury version is equipped with PTF. Any model of the family under consideration is equipped with numerous galvanized parts. The car body is treated with a special anti-corrosion substance.
Granta is easy to maintain (unlike Kalina). The number of parts in the 1st car is much less than in the other model. Due to the reduction of parts (from 59 to 39 pieces), the new torpedo is presented in the form of a monolithic structure. The quality of the plastic elements used in the interior of the Lada Granta has significantly improved; there are no gaps. The dashboard with a minimal number of information instruments replicates the Kalina torpedo.
Due to the large side mirrors, the driver has a good view. Other advantages include the presence of an immobilizer, an LCD display and a spacious interior of the car. It is equipped with a spacious trunk with a volume of 480 liters. The rear seat can accommodate 2 passengers up to 180 cm tall at the same time, and if necessary, it can be easily folded.
Among the disadvantages of the design, Lada Granta car owners highlight the close location of 2 cup holders near the gearbox. In practice, using such niches is inconvenient. During use, the upholstery of soft seats wears out. The manufacturer did not provide lumbar support and head restraints in the rear seats.
Problems with directional stability when driving fast
Another reminder that this car is not intended for reaching high speeds: at speeds over 120 km/h it begins to have problems with directional stability, and the faster you accelerate, the more serious they will be. The car literally starts to sway from side to side even on a straight line, on a good road - and it’s quite difficult in turns or on an average surface. Interestingly, loading improves stability, so you can accelerate a little faster with passengers.

Owner reviews
I won’t chew snot, since everything has already been said about the main features of the Grant. My car has driven a little over 900 km today. I’ll just describe my relationship with her.
The suspension still sometimes suddenly knocks the spine into the skull, but this is forgiven when it passes familiar disgusting roads quite comfortably. In most cases the suspension is great.
Factory wheels like "Kama" are not a fountain, of course. But recently I specifically used them on loose snow. I’ll tell you honestly - it can be worse: they cry, but they row.
I couldn’t decide on the dimensions of the rear of the Granta right away, I don’t even understand where the obstacle is, so I bought a cheap parking sensor from the “Sho-me” brand and stuck it into the rear bumper myself. It works quite correctly.

Video review
I've been driving for almost 2 years now, I've only driven about 12,000 km. Operation all year round, highway/city, 50/50. I live in a suburban village, so I often need to travel to the city along the highway... There have been no serious breakdowns in two years.
— Quite a comfortable fit, I don’t get tired even when I go on long trips of more than 500 km. You sit like a glove.
— Quite comfortable ergonomics of the cabin, nothing superfluous, and there can’t be anything like that there.
— The interior dimensions are not the smallest; four people fit into the car quite well, without interfering with each other.
— I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the trunk, it is simply huge. At first I didn’t appreciate it, but when a small child appeared and the need to carry all sorts of junk appeared, the trunk went with a bang.
— Quite high ground clearance for a sedan, which is a big advantage on our roads (especially in winter).
— An excellent stove, it heats up by 5 even at -30 degrees, the interior warms up quite quickly.
— The engine starts even at -25 without using any auxiliary equipment, although if the street is below -20, then I try not to touch the car.
And now come the disadvantages of this device:
— Very poor sound insulation.
— The quality of the paintwork is very poor, which immediately lets you know that this is a car for a beggar like me. After only 1.5 years, rust appeared on the doors, weak but still. The same thing happens on the front hood, where all the salt and snot from the autumn and spring roads gets in.
— The car is quite rigid, either they wanted it to steer better in turns and roll less, which is actually present, or it’s just like that. Sometimes you’re driving along the highway and you have to slow down from 90 to 60-70 km/h because the ride becomes uncomfortable, and wild impacts from potholes and unevenness on the road begin. Especially on the original KAMA tires, motherfucker.
-Weak engine. The dynamics, so to speak, are very average. The car simply does not run on these 82 hp.
Review of Lada Granta 1.6 (82 hp) with manual transmission 2015
Any car, regardless of its price, has advantages and disadvantages for its owner, some things you like and some you don’t, and you, to the best of your ability, try to correct this and bring your car to an “ideal” state for yourself. In this article I would like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the car in my opinion. Advantages:
1. The engine is the basis of all cars, and therefore it comes first, the Granta has a peppy engine, and a decent reserve of power, good torque, so there are no problems when overtaking, and even with passengers and cargo it has enough dynamics.
2. Good suspension; for domestic cars it handles bumps quite normally. 3. Adaptive steering that gets heavier as speed increases so it feels really good. 4. The sound insulation present is certainly not ideal, but it is still there from the factory and that’s a plus. 5. The presence of a standard alarm system in this configuration provides a key with remote control for opening/closing doors, as well as a glass closer. 6. A spacious trunk, although it is smaller in volume than that of a sedan, but the lion's share of the space there is eaten up by the arches on which the trunk lid is attached, and loading cargo is also not so convenient. 7. The presence of automatically switching on daytime running lights, although they began to be installed on all new cars, but having driven without automatic switching on, you understand their value. 8. This also includes air conditioning, multimedia, alloy wheels, Pirelli tires, the presence of all power windows, airbags, heated seats - their availability already depends on the vehicle’s equipment. There are many advantages, but these are the main ones. Now about the disadvantages
, which for some reason are always remembered better than the advantages. 1. The rear visibility of a car in this type of body is very poor; the rear window itself is large, but if you measure its height, it is approximately 20 cm, excluding the tinted part at the edges, which is quite small. Visibility is not very good anyway, but if you put two people in the back or put some kind of heavy load on it, then the back drops and visibility drops completely, this is of course a design flaw, but oddly enough, this has a small advantage, in the dark, driving behind cars practically do not dazzle unless they are driving right next to each other. 2. After it has rained and the car is wet, and you need to open the trunk, water gets inside if you open the door suddenly, so you have to lift the trunk door a little and wait until some of the water drains and then open it completely, perhaps this is a design flaw, Or maybe it was intended that way at the factory?! 3. The absence of anti-corrosion treatment as such for the underbody of the car, if a galvanized body for the domestic automobile industry is the ultimate dream, then it is better to at least make high-quality anti-corrosion treatment from the factory. 4. A terrible standard jack, I just can’t imagine how such a plastic miracle could be installed, a friend on a grant (sedan, normal) has a completely normal classic jack, but this is terrible.
Unreliable braking system
Although there is another argument against driving fast on the Grant: its brake pads cannot boast of quality. They often begin to make squeaks and squeals, and the discs quickly wear out. And this is already very serious; such a problem can easily be considered one of the main ones. Another drawback related to the brakes: the handbrake cable is secured inconveniently, you will have to get used to it.
