Every person at least once in his life is faced with a choice - which car to take: domestic or foreign, used or new... If you choose from affordable options, then the Russian auto industry will come to the rescue, which also gives reasons for thinking about the choice . In addition, favorable prices will be taken into account in the future - regarding maintenance, repair and replacement of parts.
Just recently, the leading manufacturer AVTOVAZ has improved most of its models and also released new ones, which are becoming increasingly popular every day. To help buyers with their choice, I decided to discuss the topic - which is better: Lada Granta or Lada Priora. According to the latest statistics, these are the best-selling cars of this company. These models differ from the well-known Lada Kalina and from each other, so let's look at what exactly.
Exterior - appearance
First, let's look at the external data. Priora has a traditional body shape, similar to the previous version. After restyling in 2014, it acquired improved headlights, bumper and rear dimensions.
Lada Priora Sedan
Granta has now acquired youthful, stylish shapes reminiscent of a foreign car. The running lights, bumpers and headlights have been improved. In this category you can give it preference.
Comparative test drive of Lada
To make a complete comparison of these two cars and see what the fresh Granta can do against the Lada Priora, you need to compare them in all respects. Among the main ones are such parameters as length, wheelbase and width of the car. The clear favorite here is the Lada Priora, which, with a total length of 4350 mm, has a wheelbase of 2492 mm. Compared to the Priora, the Grant model exhibits the following indicators: overall width - 4260 mm, and wheelbase - 2476.
It can be noted that with its shorter length, the Lada Granta is ready to provide its rear passengers with almost equal free space to the older model. Given the more modern architectural design, the vehicle has more capabilities for transporting goods. A car with a sedan body can offer 480 liters of luggage compartment versus 430 liters for the Priora. The situation looks similar for cars with a 5-door hatchback body, taking into account the fact that the wheelbase has not changed: Lada Priora.
- length - 4210 mm;
- luggage compartment - 360 l.
Lada Granta.
- length - 4246 mm;
- luggage compartment - 440mm.
Thus, if we take into account the technical indicators in the field of geometric parameters, then in the “which is better” debate, the more modern Lada Granta car beat its opponent in terms of basic consumer indicators. Taking into account the more original appearance, the likelihood of buying a Grant sedan or a Grant with a liftback body increases even more.
However, Lada Priora does not give up its position so easily. In her arsenal there is simply an undeniable trump card in the form of a station wagon. Trunk volume here can vary between 444 liters in normal condition and increases to 777 liters with the rear seats folded. The Priora station wagon will not miss its buyer, who is concerned about transporting large cargo, often makes trips to the country, fishing, or simply travels.
A car with a 3-door hatchback (or coupe) body, thanks to its attractive appearance, has its own target audience, for example, active young people who will not buy a car based on the trunk capacity. Such a car is usually chosen with the heart.
Interior - interior overview
If we take the Priora as an example, its interior has changed for the better. Modern soft-look materials were used in the interior.

While in Granta the plastic dashboard looks cheap. But it has a more spacious interior.
Which is better: “Granta” or “Priora”
Reviews of the models (Granta liftback, Priora station wagon, Hatchback, Sedan, Sport) differ greatly from each other. Some speak positively, others negatively. Analysis of reviews shows that most of the breakdowns were minor, minor. In all cases, the car was running, the owner drove to the service station on his own, and a tow truck was not called.
Priora hatchback or Granta liftback, which is better: there is no definite answer, in each case individually.
The build quality factor has a lot to do with it.
For tall drivers, Granta is an ideal option, as it provides more space, including in the back row of seats. Priora still attracts with its engine power, long service life, and fewer defects.
Perhaps Granta will also take time to improve, and in a few years it will become a favorite.
Price and quality
In this comparison, which is better than a Priora or a Granta liftback, the second option wins, since today the new Priora without additions costs the same as a Granta in a luxury package. This price difference was achieved thanks to a new design that uses fewer small parts. This is what contributed to the noise reduction.
Priora has two trim levels for all models: Norma and Lux. Granta also has a third one - Standard, which is the cheapest. At the same time, the inexpensive configurations of the first model are better equipped than those of the second. But their cost is much higher. But there are practically no differences between expensive trim levels. They include:
- front airbags;
- electric power steering;
- multimedia system with on-board computer;
- heated seats, etc.
Inside, outside and under the hood
The interior and exterior are the first thing that catches the buyer's eye at a car dealership. This is what is assessed first when choosing models. Comparing the Lada Priora or Lada Granta with foreign cars, you can see that their appearance is much poorer and more modest. What they are now making in Russia has long since ceased to be produced abroad, although this is not surprising; the Soviet automobile industry has always acted more as a catch-up than as an advanced link in the automotive industry. And the Hatchback body is increasingly being replaced by the Liftback option.
The Granta Hatchback looks more solid than its rival Priora. A more modern and beautiful design shows it in a favorable light. The age difference (Granta was released 4 years later) naturally affects the appearance of the car, since there is a more modern approach and outdated body parts have been removed from the design.
However, in terms of interior decoration and convenience, the leadership is maintained by the Priora Hatchback. The interior of the Priora uses higher quality materials and more comfortable (albeit outdated) seats.
They are the main ones for a car enthusiast when choosing a vehicle. Engine power, fuel consumption and many other criteria are taken into account. Priora and Granta are practically equipped with the same power units, and their differences depend more on the configuration than on the model, which cannot be said about the gearbox.
The Granta Hatchback is ahead of the Priora, especially the modifications of the last years of production. This is due to the fact that they began to install improved mechanics on the Grant, which is superior to the outdated gearbox on the Priora. It is distinguished by a more convenient switch, easily amenable to commands, as well as the absence of vibration, which has practically become an indispensable feature of the Soviet automobile industry.
The fuel consumption of both Lada models is the same, and this is due to the similarity of the engines and their characteristics. However, the newer Granta model is better adapted to the roads and improved, so you should not be surprised if it still surpasses its rival in fuel consumption by 1-2 liters.
Automatic transmission is a separate issue. Since the Lada Priora has not yet acquired an automatic transmission, lovers of such a transmission will prefer to choose the Granta. But you shouldn’t hope for a simplified life, since automatic transmission is still an innovation in the Russian automobile industry and therefore you can expect more problems from automatic transmissions than from the old but faithful mechanics.
The suspension condition of the Priora and Granta is equivalent. In modern models it has been improved and is highly reliable. But still, Granta is a more modern model and its suspension will be newer and more advanced. This plays a significant role when repairing a car or tuning it. It is easier to find and replace a modern part than to choose an alternative to an outdated model.
Specifications
This criterion is of most concern to domestic car enthusiasts, so we will analyze in detail all the available parameters.
Headlights
If you choose from cars which is better - Grant or Priora regarding the light, then opinions are divided here. Granta wins in the low beam category, while Priora has good high beam. It also has an advantage in the design of the headlight - lamps for different lights are installed separately, so this makes replacement easier and cheaper in the future. The full specification looks like this.
Priora:
- DRL/GO P21/5W 12V/21W/5W.
- Low and high beam H4 12V/60W/55W.
- Turn signal lamp PY21W 12V/21W.
Lada Granta:
- Low beam (H7).
- Far (H1).
- Turn signal lamp PY21W 12V/21W.
Clearance
For both brands of cars, regardless of the body - liftback, sedan, sport or hatchback - the ground clearance is the same - 16 cm.
Trunk
What makes the Grant better than the Priora is the trunk volume.
In the first case, it is equal to 520 liters, in the second – 430. But if you fold the rear sofa, this figure increases to 700.
Suspension
If you are wondering what is better to buy - Priora or Grant, then opinions are also divided on this characteristic. The first model is bought due to its good handling. Due to the increased travel of the steering rack, it becomes more “obedient”. In the sports version, the suspension has been significantly improved. The second option is taken by those who value comfort. The Granta has fewer revolutions from lock to lock, compared to the Priora - 3.1 versus 4.1. It is also more rolly in corners and is perfect for older drivers. Accelerating over 120 km/h, it will not feel very good. Although this is the latest, therefore more modern development of the creators.
Engines
If we compare which is better - Grant or Priora regarding engines, then in reality they are almost the same. But my personal opinion is that the 16-valve Granta is faster than its opponent (especially in the “sport” version - this was also proven in test drives).
There are only two positions in the Priora model range - 98 and 106 hp, while Grant has added two more - 82 and 87. In addition, they are equipped with a noise insulation system.
The fuel consumption declared by the factory also does not differ much - about 9-10 liters in the city, and six on the highway.
Transmission
When choosing between two - Grant or Prior - which is better, regarding this characteristic, the first option wins. I declare with confidence that the new cable gearbox beats the old Priora one.
This is a modernized version of the gearbox from the VAZ-2108, which, although noisy, still provides clear operation of the scenes. Gears can be engaged literally with your little finger. The Priora has a manual transmission, while the Granta has a choice of manual, robotic and automatic.
What conclusions can be drawn?
After comparing all the quality characteristics, the conclusion arises that the Lada Granta is a much better car. It should also be taken into account that the car was produced approximately 4 years later. If we consider the price, the Granta is much more affordable than the Priora, since the assembly process uses a much smaller number of components and various systems. As a result, all possible problems that arise during the operation of such a model have long been clear to everyone.
When purchasing a Priora, the car owner will not face any unpleasant surprises. If we consider the functional features of the Granta, we cannot be completely sure about the behavior of the machine in non-standard situations. If we look at the dimensions, we can see that the Granta has a much wider body than the Priora.
Be that as it may, the decision about which of these two models to choose should only be made by the buyer. Drivers always select a car model specifically for themselves and their taste preferences, as well as their driving style. According to some experts, there is no significant difference between the models. These are cars of approximately the same level. That is why, if you want to purchase a new car, it is naturally better to pay your attention specifically to the Lada Granta, which was produced four years later than the Priora.
Naturally, everyone would like to receive a lot more useful information regarding the characteristics of these two vehicle models. That is why everyone is invited to watch the video below:
You decided to buy a domestic car because the price is attractive. True, Grant is cheaper than Kalina by about 30 thousand rubles. But you still doubt which model is better: Grant, Kalina or Priora. These cars belong to different classes, they have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let's try to figure out which Lada is better.
Comparing the appearance
Both models are available in a hatchback body. Both models have the same side doors. Lada Kalina looks a little smaller in appearance. The Lada Priora has a slightly longer body, which is why it appears larger. If you need a more modern model, then you should take a closer look at the Lada Kalina.
It is better designed by the designers.
Did you know?
The first domestic car to receive an airbag was the Lada Priora.
The front view of the Grant is more interesting than that of the Priora. And the rear view of the Priora is prettier than that of the Grant.
Salon
Let’s figure out which is better – Granta or Kalina – in terms of interior comfort. Kalina's cabin is 5.5 cm higher and 3.6 cm wider. Both cabins are quite quiet. The disadvantage of the Lada Granta is that after driving a couple of thousand kilometers the car begins to “crack”. Sound insulation on Kalina is better than on Grant.
The dashboard on Grant does not make any extraneous sounds, but on Kalina some noise and rattling may come from the panel. There is no room for an ashtray in the Granta's cabin. The Lada Grant has an engine temperature sensor, but the Kalina does not have such a sensor. The Granta has an automatic transmission, while the Priora has a 5-speed manual transmission. The seats in the Lada Granta are not comfortable enough. They are cheap and tough. And Kalina has anatomical seats, which creates comfort for the driver and passengers.
Note!
The advantage of anatomical seats is that they follow the shape of the body of the person sitting, and thereby create comfort while traveling.
Let's study the equipment of the cars and decide which is better: Priora, Kalina or Grant. Kalina has a short steering rack, electric power steering, electric front doors, an air filter, and athermal windows. The Grant has foglights, electric drive and heated exterior mirrors, electric windows for the front and rear doors. In the Priora's interior, the plastic is nicer to the touch than that of the Granta. The interior appearance of Grants is better than Priors or Kalinas.
Trunk capacity
There are three body types: sedan, hatchback and station wagon. The station wagon turned out to be the most practical.
Note!
The station wagon body not only allows you to expand the space for transporting goods, but can also be transformed into a bed for spending the night in the car.
Kalina is inferior to Granta in terms of trunk capacity. The large trunk on the Grant (about 480 liters) appeared due to an increase in the length of the body. However, this trunk closes loudly. The trunk capacity of Kalina is approximately 360 liters. And if you fold the rear seat backs, the volume increases to 700 liters. The loading height on the Lada Priora is less, and the side is 2 times lower than on the Kalina.
Did you know?
Lada Kalina has been produced since 2004. At first the cars were sedans, and after 2 years they began to roll off the assembly line in a hatchback body.
Suspension and chassis
Let's consider what is better in terms of suspension and chassis. All models have improved suspension. But on the Grant the suspension is more energy-intensive and behaves better in the pits. Granta behaves better on potholes than Priora or Kalina. On the Grant there are no impacts in the steering wheel and there is no rattling of the steering rack, but on the Kalina such a defect is observed.
Lada cars are front-wheel drive. The Lada Granta is more controllable, since it has a short steering rack (the distance between the stops is 3.1 turns). On the Priora there are 4.1 turns from lock to lock.
The brakes on the Grant are better due to the fact that they are ventilated and equipped with BAS. The weak points of Lada cars are the stabilizer struts and shock absorbers.
Engine and transmission
If we talk about which car is better, Grant or Kalina, in terms of engine, it should be noted that the engines are slightly different. Although the Grant has a Kalinovsky engine with the same number of valves (older models have 8 valves, new ones have 16) and a volume of 1.6 liters, the engine power of the Lada Grant is higher (110 horses) than that of the Priora (90 horses) and Kalina (82 horses). This advantage is explained by the fact that the Grant is equipped with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group. This allows you to increase power, reduce noise and vibration levels, and reduce gasoline consumption. All Lada models consume 95 gasoline. The gas pedal on the Grant is better, it works softer and more informative, because it is electronic.
On 16-valve engines with a volume of 1.4 liters and 1.6 liters, the valves will bend if the timing belt breaks (this is a feature of engines from the Lada Priora).
The Granta motor operates without any extraneous noise. On Kalina, the sound of a running engine resembles the operation of a diesel engine (a characteristic bubbling sound appears). On Kalina, the material of the plastic casings is of better quality. Lada Granta has an electric throttle valve.
If the timing belt breaks on an 8-valve Lada engine, the valves do not meet the pistons. This allows you to preserve the valves (not bend them) if the timing belt breaks.
For intensive cooling of the pistons, the Grant has oil nozzles. There are spacer washers on the Granta's knee shaft. The Granta ignition system does not use coils. The Granta engine resource is approximately 200 thousand km, Kalina - about 250 thousand km.
Important!
To extend engine life, it is recommended to change the oil every 15,000 km, and the timing belt every 50-60 thousand km.
Safety
Let's figure out what is better to choose - Grant Kalin or Priora - in terms of safety. The Lada Grant has one airbag, but the Kalina does not.
Autoreview magazine tested cars for safety. The tested Granta model did not have pretensioners and front seat belt limiters, but this did not prevent the car from earning 8.4 points during the EuroNCAP crash test.
Did you know?
According to the crash test results, only the Hyundai Solaris (8.5 points), which has 2 airbags, pretensioners and front seat belt limiters, came out ahead of the Grants.
We hope that our article helped you figure out which is better: Kalina, Priora or Grant.
Currently, cars from the Volzhsky plant are increasingly popular among car enthusiasts. And this is an understandable fact, since the cost of this brand is much lower than a foreign one, and maintenance is quite simple. And also, if necessary, you can get any components and spare parts in a short time.
Buyers are often faced with the problem of choosing: - Priora Hatchback or Granta Hatchback. These models are especially popular among other Lada cars, and the choice often comes between them. This solution seems simple only at first glance, but in fact these almost identical models have a number of individual properties.
And most recently, the AvtoVAZ plant began producing the Lada Granta Liftback model. This is a new Granta, adjusted to a foreign body model and having exterior advantages over other cars on the Russian market. But we are talking specifically about the choice between Priora and Granta in the Hatchback body.
If you miss the fact that they have a decent difference in cost, they still have common characteristics and there are quite a lot of them, which makes the choice very difficult. Therefore, the main assistant here should be a comparative analysis and the buyer’s individual feelings.
LADAvodov's opinion
It was also interesting to read the personal experiences and reviews of car owners in different body styles – hatchback, liftback, sedan or sport – regarding which car is better: Priora or Grant. Here opinions are divided. Many people who buy Grant claim that it is of better quality. With it, you need to go to the service much less often for relatively minor breakdowns (according to some users). The good news is that the car arrived for maintenance, and was not brought in. Most often, malfunctions of small units occur: stove, generator, window regulator, etc. The Granta's price is lower, and many are satisfied with the exterior. The only thing is that the brakes are squealing. Even in the service department this is already considered normal, since this is observed in almost every model.
Regarding which is better - Prior or Grant, reviews were different. Many people respond well to the fact that the Granta has more space in the cabin, especially for legs. It is roomy, comfortable to sit in and has a large trunk. This is especially true for those who need it for work, and in everyday life too. The Granta has a rich set of equipment, plus a new platform. There are large doors, like in the Kalina station wagon or hatchback (video is presented below).
Others like the Priora more – its configuration and engine power. Its fans tend to believe that Granta has more visits to the service. But many consider the price of the Priora to be too high according to expectations. Although it is simply dictated by modern realities. Foreign cars have also risen, like everything else in this world. The restyled versions have already acquired all the necessary elements - a short steering rack, a cable link and other things that are so praised in Grant.
Lada Priora Sedan
Also, many people prefer the appearance of the Priora, while in the second Lada they do not like the shape of the stern, especially in liftback, hatchback and sedan bodies. Priora looks more modern, so it can be called a youth version. Convenient for both driver and passengers.
Price offers and configurations
Analyzing the cost of models will help you get closer to deciding which one is better to take. Considering that the Priora, at the price of the minimum configuration, costs the same as the Lada Granta in the luxury configuration, you can immediately set your priorities. And indeed, why pay for an empty Priora, if for the same money you can get a fully loaded Grant and be happy if you are satisfied with all the characteristics?
Lada Priora is a more ergonomic model. She has already earned herself a “name” and earned respect among young people. The model is popular even with a minimum configuration, and this is due to the possibility of easy tuning. Since the car has already been well studied by users, it can be used to fashion both a unique sports car and an excellent country “cart”.
Among the disadvantages of the Priora, it is necessary to note the racks. But part of the blame for their rapid wear can be laid on the quality of the roads, and besides, the struts on the Priora are not that expensive. Therefore, even if, with terribly poor operation, they “fly” after 5-6 years, they can be easily obtained and replaced.
Presented with power steering, air conditioning, ABC system, power windows and airbags for the passenger. The “norm” configuration differs from the first in the absence of rear automatic windows, fog lights, alloy wheels and, of course, parking sensors.
The Lada Granta attracts buyers with its fairly quiet engine, due to the presence of modern and high-quality sound insulation. Grant engines develop power of 80, 90 and 98 horsepower, depending on the configuration. Improved dynamics and aerodynamics have reduced the car's acceleration time to 100 km/h to 12 seconds. The interior of the Lada Granta is designed in European style and is particularly comfortable and quiet.
Here the buyer is offered a wider choice of trim levels: “norm”, “standard” and “luxury”. A more spacious trunk is a clear advantage, since our car owners, in the old fashioned way, strive to fit almost an entire sofa into a passenger car. Well, jokes aside, 500 liters is quite an impressive volume for a Hatchback class car.
Among the shortcomings, the driver will notice a slight rattle after a few thousand kilometers and the absence of an engine temperature sensor. But there are no complaints regarding safety. Some are also captivated by the later start of production of the car. After all, the Russian mentality has developed in such a way that everything released later than the previous one will be much better, and everything taken from Europe as a personal experience will be of much higher quality. But why is Priora’s price still higher? This is already a question of pricing and the so-called “company secret”.
My opinion
I myself was the owner of a Priora for two years. In two years, I drove more than 30,000 km on the new car. During this period, there were a lot of minor breakdowns, but during all the time she never got stuck on the road. The battery died once, due to my fault - I didn’t turn off the ceiling light.
Based on experience, I can answer the question which car is better - Lada Granta or Priora. When purchasing, I leaned toward the second option due to the higher cost. Plus, it is positioned as the flagship of the domestic automotive industry. There is not much space in it, but it can safely be called B-class.
Initially, the creation of the Priora was aimed at improving the version of the 10th family. And Granta is a cheaper version of Kalina, which replaced the Zhiguli. This is a simple budget car, improved for modern roads.
From all of the above, we can conclude that a car produced by VAZ is like a lottery. Each model may have a successful or problematic option. Priora is a model that has been proven for decades, and Granta is a more modern car, assembled using new technologies. And, judging seriously by the technical characteristics, then in terms of the latest versions, Grant is superior to Priora in many criteria, including cost, which today is one of the main selection criteria for some.
So which car is better?
The differences between the cars are insignificant and the Grant's winnings are more likely related to the year of its release
Of course, each person chooses a car according to his taste and pocket. But taking into account all the characteristics described above, the Grant wins several points over the Priora, if only because the former is more modern than its competitor. Even the fact that Priora was updated in 2014 does not really save it. By the way, there is information that 2015 is the last year that the Priora will be released; it should be replaced by a completely new model.
In addition to appearance and technical characteristics, Granta is cheaper than its competitor. This is also due to the fact that fewer parts are used during its assembly.
But Priora also has undoubted advantages. This machine showed excellent performance in operation. The problems and “sores” of the model have long been known; there is no need to expect any surprises when purchasing it. Granta, although not as “raw” as a couple of years ago, can still unpleasantly surprise its owner.
Therefore, it is the buyer’s prerogative to decide which is better - Grant or Priora. Weigh all the pros and cons of each model, sit in them, evaluate the trunk volume, interior, and technical characteristics. If you listen to the opinions of experts, there is no significant difference between the two vehicles. When choosing, rely on the available funds and your own preferences. Good luck with your choice!
Engines and transmissions of models
If we talk about engines, then it is also not easy to compare Priora and Grant in this parameter. Both cars have exactly the same powertrains. However, in 2014, after another restyling, the Lada Priora in the luxury configuration began to be equipped with the 21127 engine. We should talk about it in more detail. The fact is that the designers came up with it specifically for this model.
Its feature is passive supercharging. The principle of its operation is to change the length of the intake manifold depending on the speed. As a result, the engine became more powerful in all operating modes. The car's dynamics have improved significantly. According to owner reviews, this is especially noticeable at low speeds. However, the previous drawback - damage to the valves when the timing belt breaks - also affected this power unit.
Thus, car enthusiasts for whom good car dynamics and a modern engine are important will choose the Priora, however, it will only be available in luxury and standard configurations. The manual transmission on Grant has a cable drive, this significantly reduces vibration transmitted from the engine to the gearshift lever. As a result, noise and vibration inside the car are reduced, making it much more comfortable.
The Lada Priora box drive has rocker control. The complexity of modernization is explained by the need to change some components of the car body. In addition, Priora and Granta can have an automatic transmission, it has Japanese roots and is highly reliable. When choosing a used car, you should take into account the fact that automatic transmission first appeared on Grant.
To do this, the designers had to make major changes to the car's body and suspension. When giving preference to an automatic transmission, it should be borne in mind that operating a machine with it requires certain skills and experience. Otherwise, according to owner reviews, fuel consumption will be quite different from the declared one.
Prestige
Of course, it is a little strange to talk about this in the light of such a comparison, but it is worth recognizing that among young people (especially boys) Priora is rated much higher than Granta. It even earned the status of a kind of “boy’s” car. Still, the Lada Granta is aimed primarily at the older generation, whose representatives do not pay much attention. This means that in this round victory remains with Priora.

Strength parameters and aesthetic data
Over the past few years, AvtoVAZ has released several updates for its cars. It cannot be said that in technical terms there is direct significant diversity, but the situation in this regard has at least moved forward. Granta uses 1.6-liter gasoline engines that have two and four valves on the cylinders. The power of such cars was 81 and 120 horsepower. The hatchback will not have the opportunity to use the most powerful engine available. It is also possible to choose a car with a manual or automatic transmission.
The car is capable of accelerating to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.5 seconds on the most powerful engine option, and in 13.5 seconds on a car running at 81 horsepower. As for the Priora, relatively recently, it acquired another type of engine. A much more powerful 1.8-liter analogue has the ability to accelerate the hatchback to 100 kilometers per hour in 10 seconds. The torque in this case is 165 Nm. Thanks to this, the engine with a power of 123 horsepower can feel quite playful on the road. In some situations, previously there was an extreme lack of traction for a comfortable ride.
Without a doubt, you should choose a car based on overall performance. Therefore, in this case, it is necessary to weigh all the disadvantages and advantages of each car.
As for Granta, she looks much more rude and unaesthetic in appearance. Most of the complaints were about the rear view of the car, where the trunk looks like a completely foreign body. However, the situation was significantly improved by Granta liftback. There is already a much more interesting and high-quality interior, and there is also the opportunity to choose several equipment options.
If we talk about the Priora station wagon and hatchback, they look great. This is a fairly practical car option that does not have exaggerated lines or other unusual elements. One could say that this is a timeless classic.
Sports modifications
Comparing cars is impossible without considering sports trim levels. After all, many car enthusiasts specifically make appropriate tuning of their “iron horses”. Meanwhile, Priora and Granta have factory modifications of such cars. The sports modification of the Priora has rather cosmetic changes. This, of course, is also a lot. Car enthusiasts no longer have to install an aerodynamic body kit and stiffer suspension on their own.
Engine power increased to 125 hp. s., which made it possible to increase the maximum speed to 195 km/h. The car is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels. Of course, this is not enough for the sport package. Perhaps this was the reason for the low popularity of the car. By the way, along with the release of the model, AvtoVAZ offered car enthusiasts a kit for self-tuning. Its price at that time was about 70,000 rubles.
The situation is completely different with Granta. This is the first sports modification car for which the manufacturer specially developed a new engine. Its power is 118 hp. p., for such a modification this is not enough. However, VAZ promises to equip the car with a 135- and later 200-horsepower unit. The appearance of the car has changed greatly. Compared to the civilian version, it began to look much more massive.
Its appearance has become aggressive, which fans of sports tuning really like. The appearance is complemented by 16-inch alloy wheels. The suspension has special short-travel struts that allow you to confidently corner at high speed. The rear brakes have a disc design, which makes them much more efficient. In terms of configuration, the car is identical to the luxury version.
Taking into account all the facts, it has become much easier to decide which sports car is better - Priora or Grant. The vast majority of car enthusiasts believe that among domestic models there is no alternative to the Grant Sport. True, its price today exceeds 480 thousand rubles. However, independent tuning for its fans may cost more and will be of lower quality.
Body range and dimensions
And in this regard, Granta is a clear favorite, because it can be chosen both as a sedan and as a liftback, while the Priora buyer will have to be content with a non-alternative 5-door sedan.
If we compare the parameters of competitors, it is noticeable that Priora is superior to its counterpart in length, but Granta wins back in width and height. The Priora has a longer wheelbase, however, the front and rear tracks are narrower, and the trunk is noticeably smaller. A clear comparison of the parameters is presented in the table:
Dimensions/Model | Lada Priora (sedan) | LADA Granta (sedan) |
Length | 4 350 mm | 4 260 mm |
Height | 1 420 mm | 1 500 mm |
Width | 1,680 mm | 1,700 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,492 mm | 2,476 mm |
Front wheel track | 1 410 mm | 1 430 mm |
Rear wheel track | 1 380 mm | 1,414 mm |
Clearance | 165 mm | 160 (145) mm |
Trunk volume | 430 l | 520 l |
Separately, it is worth mentioning the ground clearance. At first glance, the cars are almost equal, because the difference is only 5 mm in favor of the Priora. However, this is only true when comparing both manual and robotic rivals. If the Granta is equipped with a classic automatic transmission, then it sags noticeably, since its ground clearance is reduced to only 145 mm. In light of this, we can admit that in terms of dimensions there is a fighting draw.
Exterior
Everything here is subjective. It is noticeable that Priora was created back in the first decade of the 21st century, when the Lancer IX, KIA Ceed and others were taken as examples. This left its mark.
The Priora has convex headlight optics, a massive sloping hood and a simple bumper. In addition, the front end is decorated with tiny round foglights and a trapezoidal radiator grille with chrome trim.
In profile, large doors and long body overhangs are immediately noticeable, and the glass area is impressive. In addition, the entire sidewall is crossed by a long stamping line. But there are no plastic moldings. The rear is not bad - a smooth bumper, high feet, a massive trunk lid with a shiny lining. Not too bland, but nothing flashy either.
Lada Granta is made in a more modern style, but its appearance is frankly boring. It is noticeable that the designers set out to create a kind of “universal” model. From the front it stands out with large headlights, a radiator grille and an air intake, which, in fact, occupy the entire front. And the composition is completed by a large hood and round fog lights.
On the side there are similar body overhangs, as well as plastic trim on the doors, painted black. And the side windows are no smaller than those of the Priora. From behind, a huge trunk lid with a pair of “claw-shaped” stampings catches your eye. And the fact that the license plate is installed in the rear bumper only enhances the impression.
