The central locking unit of the VAZ 2109 ensures the safety of the vehicle, which is one of the most important factors for the driver. There are different anti-theft security systems for car safety. An important role is played by installing door locks. The main purpose of the device is to simultaneously close and open doors in a car. In addition, on the VAZ 2109, central locks control the luggage compartment and fuel tank lids.

Features of the central lock

Central locking is a system that combines:

  • On a VAZ 2109, a central locking control unit or a central locking relay. Its purpose is to transmit to the gearmotors, which are located in the door niches, a control signal for the lock mechanism. This is an electronic device, which is a circuit board housed in a plastic case. There are lugs on the case with which the device is fixed in the installation location. Six relay contacts are used to connect the control connector.
  • A set of input sensors, which come in two types: limit switches for car doors and microswitches located in the lock structure (“micriks”). The first one records the current position of the car door and sends the necessary signal to the lock control unit, the “micriks” record the current location of the main structural elements of the lock: the central locking mechanism and cams.
  • Actuators, they are responsible for opening/closing locks. Their design includes metal rods connected to the rear door rod.
  • To open the car, a key fob connected to the control unit is used.

How does the driver influence the device:

  • The car owner inserts the key into the ignition.
  • Turns it around.
  • The signal to the relay is supplied by special contacts.
  • Voltage is supplied to the actuators.
  • After activating the system, all lock buttons are slightly retracted.

The second nut is in a more difficult to reach place, so you will have to gain access to it first. To do this, you need to unscrew the three bolts securing the door lock, as shown in the photo below:

Now from the inside we move the lock mechanism a little to the side so that we can put the head on the second nut securing the door handle:

After which, on the reverse (outer) side, the handle will be released, but will still be held on by the rod, which is attached to the lock cylinder.

To disconnect the door handle, you need to pull with medium force for up to three times until the rod comes off the hook of the cylinder:

That's all done, now the handle is disconnected from the VAZ 2106 door and is ready for replacement.

Installing a central lock on a VAZ 2109 car

On the VAZ 2109, installation of the central lock is carried out in two stages:

  • Front door lock device.
  • Installation of wiring and connection of the main central locking.

Advice: Before carrying out work, it is necessary to change the drive connection wires for the window regulator.

To carry out the work you will need:

  • Upholstery holder.
  • Corrugated tube.
  • Set of central locking elements.
  • Knife terminals.
  • Set of wires.

It is advisable to install the VAZ 21093 central locking control unit in a garage or other place where no one will interfere. Instructions for doing the work yourself:

  • The screws securing the handle are unscrewed, which is then removed.
  • The handle lining responsible for opening the door is removed.
  • All operations are repeated for the other door.
  • The upholstery is removed. To do this, pry it off from all sides of the doors with a screwdriver.
  • The installation location of the locks is determined.

Tip: The best installation location is the lower left corner. In this case, when lowering the glass, it does not touch the lock and does not interfere with the driver.

  • Several holes are made.
  • The lock is screwed on with self-tapping screws.
  • The same actions are performed with the other door.

After carrying out these preparatory work, you can begin installing the door lock rods to the central locking rod:

Tip: The stroke of the lock rod is slightly greater than the length of the central lock rod, resulting in a difference of approximately six millimeters. Therefore, you need to combine the centers of thrust and there will be no problems. Sometimes the thrust from all sides does not reach by about two millimeters. In this case, you need to tighten the screws very firmly, but so as not to damage their heads.

  • The dashboard is removed. For this:
  • Several points are pierced near the mounting screws.
  • The wires are located inside.
  • The places of their passage are determined.
  • Here, new wires are laid for the central locking, after getting rid of the old elements.
  • Connecting the lock wires. In this case, the wire is insulated and pulled into the door.
  • After wiring the wires, they are pushed through the holes located under the dashboard.
  • A pass-through tube is installed into the rack on each side. Care must be taken to ensure that the tube is not damaged.
  • All wires are connected to the connectors.
  • The fuse is attached.
  • The connector and the central locking unit are connected.
  • All wires are hidden under the dashboard.
  • The place where to connect the VAZ 2109 central locking in the car body is determined.

Tip: If the wire is not enough, it needs to be extended.

Central lock repair

There are times when problems arise in the central locking:

  • The driver closes the car, and after closing the doors immediately open.

In this case, the rod is almost completely retracted, and the limit switch is in a borderline state. It sends a command to the central locking module, and all the doors also close, but due to slight deformation of the mechanism or door, from an impact or other reasons, the limit switch switches back and the central locking opens. This defect appears when the door is closed; the standard mechanism springs back the rod and, accordingly, the rod goes into the opposite position, which forces the door to open again.

  • The central lock can only work in one direction.

The reason may be insufficient fixation of the screw activator on the rod.

  • There is a rattling noise when opening/closing the central lock, and there is no movement of the rod.

The reason may lie in the breakage of the teeth on the plastic gear, which transmits rotation to the teeth of the rod through the motor shaft.

  • The activator motor is made of brass. With prolonged use, it breaks the mounting hole of the gear, and over time it will spin on the shaft.
  • On the VAZ 2109, the central locking does not work, and the movement of the rod can be done by hand. The lock can operate every other time. This most likely indicates a failure of the central locking motor. The photo shows the activator motor disassembled.

Why does the central locking motor not work?

So:

  • The winding broke near one of the poles.
  • The supply voltage is supplied for more than one second. In this case, the collector heats up and at the end of the movement, the very hot collector melts the plastic under its plates. The spring-loaded brushes begin to connect, squeezing out molten plastic. After the brushes are connected, the central locking power fuse may burn out and the activator rod will stop moving even by hand.
  • The motor overheats due to prolonged opening/closing over a short period of time - up to 40 seconds.
  • The commutator plates are worn out. This is indicated not by constant, but by periodic (every once in a while) operation of the central lock. In this case, the lubricant may have thickened, or the plastic has been squeezed upward from under the plates due to the long pulse duration, which leads to burnout of the commutator.

What is the central locking circuit for a VAZ 2109 car, how it works can be clearly seen in the video. There are many reasons why the central locking does not work. Some are related to the climatic conditions of the area where the car is operated, others occur after improper installation or adjustment of the lock. In any case, installing a central lock helps the driver protect the car from unauthorized entry.

Before installing the alarm, you need to prepare everything you might need:

  • alarm kit;
  • insulating tape;
  • corrugations for laying wires;
  • stationery knife;
  • drill;

How to install correctly and how to connect the signaling system in a VAZ 2109:

  1. First of all, you need to disconnect the battery.
  2. Then the upholstery is removed from the doors, you also need to dismantle the plastic trim elements on the sills and side pillars, use a screwdriver to do this.
  3. Next, the executive motor, that is, the solenoid, should be fixed to the door. For fixation, use plates and screws.
  4. After this, the dial rods are connected to the lock rod. If their length does not match, then they can be slightly bent.
  5. A siren is installed in the engine compartment; it must be located away from the engine. When installing a siren, remember that its operation is negatively affected by high temperatures and moisture
    . The siren needs to be installed with the horn down, the wiring from it is thrown into the cabin.
  6. A control module is installed in the lower part of the center console, in particular under the instrument panel. Please note that it is better to install it so that if the car is broken into, the unit cannot be found by an intruder.
  7. If there are no standard holes in the racks and doors, they will need to be drilled using a drill.
  8. Then the wiring from the electric motor to the control module is laid. The electrical circuit installed in the door must be protected using a pre-prepared corrugation. If there are places where there are twists, they should be insulated.
  9. The above points, in addition to installing the siren and control module, are repeated for each door.
  10. Then the shock sensor is installed; it needs to be installed somewhere in the central part of the body, so it will record impacts on it from all sides.
  11. An antenna with a diode indicator is placed on the windshield, preferably as high as possible. The antenna adapter must not be placed in close proximity to metal parts of the body, as this will cause interference.
  12. Now all you have to do is connect all the elements in accordance with the diagram included in the kit, and also connect power to the control module. It is better to protect this circuit with a fuse. Then the performance of the anti-theft system is diagnosed, if everything works fine, but assemble the interior trim.

Owners of “Nines” always have a lot to worry about, because their car is a living classic on wheels that requires attention. Indeed, in the past, installing a central lock on a VAZ 2109 was either a thankless task or economically unjustified, since such a lock was installed only together with an alarm system. And for this they had to give, after all, their blood money. And a decent amount flowed in.

Replacing the trunk lock

In a specialized store, this part is sold complete with larvae. However, some forethought is required here. You cannot remove the key from the cylinder, because the mechanism may fall apart and reassembling it, most likely, will not be possible.

In order to gain access to the trunk lock, you first need to remove the panel, which is secured with plastic rivets (hedgehogs). If you hook these devices under your hat, they can be easily pulled out. Hedgehogs often break, so it is best to buy them too when purchasing a lock. You need to remove all the rivets to easily and conveniently remove the panel. Once the replacement is complete, the rivets can be inserted by pressing them with your finger.

After the socket is removed, you need to unscrew the nuts on the old lock, and then remove the lock itself. After this, a new one is inserted into the free space and the nuts are tightened. All that remains is to put the socket in place and insert the hedgehogs.

Latch setting

If the lower part of the trunk lock and the latch do not change, then no adjustments are needed. Otherwise, when replacing, the new latch must be adjusted for ease of opening/closing the trunk.

To adjust, loosen the two bolts at the front and then close the luggage compartment. As a result, the latch should adjust itself. After this, you need to open the trunk and tighten the bolts.

It happens that after adjustment, the latch selects a crooked position. In this case, you will have to check whether the trunk closes well. If everything goes smoothly, there is no need to touch anything. Otherwise, you need to independently find the best place for the latch by moving it.
