Many VAZ owners, judging by the passing cars, believe that tuning the interior should first of all distinguish the car owner. What is tuning

Tuning a car is the process of modifying it to improve performance or design. Conventionally, two areas of improvement can be distinguished:

Technical tuning is aimed at improving the driving characteristics of the car, such as power, aerodynamics, handling, dynamic performance, efficiency and safety. To improve these parameters, work is being done on the engine, suspension, gearbox, exhaust and brake systems and other components that affect the performance of the car.

Styling is carried out in order to change the appearance of the car and its interior, to make the car unique. Improvements in this area of ​​tuning usually concern body panels, rims, lighting and interior parts.

Both of these approaches are used for VAZ models of the classic line, often combining them. Therefore, on the roads of our country you can find both fives, sevens and other models of the family modified beyond recognition, as well as super-powerful cars that are outwardly indistinguishable from their angular counterparts.

Features of tuning VAZ 2113

Tuning inside the 2113 should be aimed at increasing ergonomics and comfort. In VAZ cars these indicators have not been brought to perfection. You can start by installing a more comfortable driver's seat. Doing this with your own hands is problematic, but possible. Ergonomics can be significantly improved by removing the standard angular dashboard and installing a Europanel. Returning to comfort, it’s worth remembering those elements of the cabin with which you are constantly in contact - you need to deal with them first.

What immediately comes to mind is the steering wheel, which you almost never let go of. Tuning the interior of a VAZ 2113 in this case involves a simple replacement. You need to choose a new steering wheel that will be more convenient and enjoyable, and then install it yourself. This procedure can be done with your own hands, since every driver knows how to handle a wrench. Of course, the more expensive the steering wheel, the better it is. When buying a Chinese product, you need to understand that, most likely, in a couple of months the leather will completely leave the steering wheel - it will peel off and peel off. Therefore, it is better to spend money and buy a quality product, as an option - a sports steering wheel with original inserts.

Helpful advice: if you are completely satisfied with the standard steering wheel, then you can simply cover it with leather. It is worth understanding that all options have strengths and weaknesses:

  1. Zero filter - the installation of this element is aimed at increasing the power of the power plant. The number of horses should increase by about 5%. But such tuning of the VAZ 2113 engine will be effective if the filter is installed in an area with the coldest air possible. If the zero filter is not cleaned, it can damage the power plant. If you want to buy this element and install it yourself, then you should understand that the price of the filter is decent - about $50-70.
  2. Increased power due to modification of the cylinder head (cylinder head). Refinement involves aligning the holes in the cylinder head with the holes in the exhaust and intake manifolds, as well as polishing the channels in the cylinder head. Today this is the most affordable way, allowing you to get about 5-10% of power. But the work is long and labor-intensive. This can be explained by the fact that the cylinder head is made of metal. As a result, after factory casting, the surface of the cylinder head channels is far from smooth. It will take you about two days to get the cylinder head bores smooth. After this, the air passing through them will experience less resistance, which will ultimately affect the power characteristics of the power plant.
  3. Turbine installation. One of the most popular methods of engine tuning. Some motorists prefer to assemble all the parts themselves, while others choose ready-made kits. You can find them both on the car market and in specialized online stores. Up to 140 horses can be removed from the injection VAZ 2113. The figure can be even higher, but then you need to install a turbine with a pressure exceeding 0.6 bar. The option is more expensive, since working with such pressure will require a reduction in the compression ratio.
  4. Direct flow installation. If the engine is already equipped with turbocharging, then you can think about direct flow. A common mistake made by motorists is installing direct flow on a naturally aspirated car. Such an idea can easily be called a stupid waste of time and money. High-quality parts will cost about $1,000, and the power rating will increase by a maximum of 5%.

Helpful advice: you can increase the dynamics by increasing the volume. This is especially easy to do when a major engine overhaul is planned. For example, high-quality boring with connecting rods, crankshaft and pistons will increase the volume by several cubic meters.

The methods described above allow you to perform tuning of the VAZ 2113 yourself. But there are modern methods where you cannot cope on your own. We are talking about chip tuning - replacing the factory firmware of an electronic control unit (ECU or simply the brain) with converted or upgraded software (firmware). Specialized studios offer modifications to the ECU, since the factory firmware cannot be called ideal.

This applies to foreign cars and our VAZs. Sometimes chipping is a tuning, and sometimes it is a necessity. For example, you received a car with a defect: strange behavior at idle, dips, low speed. All these “diseases” can be corrected with chip tuning. Regardless of what you want to get after chipping, the result will depend on the competence of the craftsmen who will do the firmware.

After chip tuning, the firmware of the electronic control unit can change from 100 to 1000 settings that affect the operation of the VAZ 2113 power plant. Tuning has become widespread in Russia and the CIS countries, so today there are many firmware options on the market. In Russia, firmware from Paulus has gained great popularity. Having placed your VAZ 2113 in good hands, after chipping you may have the following results:

  • increasing the dynamics and acceleration of the VAZ 2113;

  • increase in torque. For VAZ – from 7% to 15%.

After reading this section, you might think that chip tuning is ideal. Of course, there are also disadvantages. For example, if the firmware does not have any errors or bugs, then increasing one parameter will be done by decreasing another. The ratio depends on the quality of the software and the knowledge of the specialist. For example, if you want to reduce fuel consumption, then be prepared that the car may “sag” in dynamics.

Power unit

Refinement of the dozen would be meaningless without engine modernization. Professionals recommend starting with it. First you need to replace all worn parts and components.

You can also take care of increasing the engine displacement from 1500 to 1600 cubic centimeters.

Replacing the crankshaft

The main method of increasing engine power up to 1.6 liters is by optimizing the piston stroke from the factory 71 mm to 74.8 mm. This procedure is performed by replacing the crankshaft and the pistons themselves. There are different options for replacing pistons:

  • installation of forged pistons with dimensions of 82.0, 84.0, 82.5 or 82.4 mm - they can be T-shaped or regular;
  • installation of standard machined pistons;
  • installation of used pistons 21213 with mechanical modification, which involves replacing the connecting rods for a floating piston pin.

In addition to the popular 74.8mm stroke crankshaft, you can purchase the little-used 75.6mm stroke crankshaft, allowing displacement up to 1,862cc. All configurations fit into a standard block, but the torsional resistance of the motor may be reduced. For this reason, it is better to limit the engine volume to no more than 1.6 liters.

Camshaft replacement

Replacing this part allows you to increase engine power, increase overall technical characteristics and acceleration dynamics. In this case, one factor must be taken into account: replacing all camshaft elements with modernized or sports ones must be replaced as a set. That is, replacing one thing will not give any results.

To remove the camshaft, proceed as follows:

  • remove the plastic protection of the alternator belt;
  • open the cylinder head cover;
  • remove the timing belt, holding the camshaft with a mounting rod (to avoid damaging the cylinder head, you need to place a wooden plate under the mount);
  • unscrew the camshaft mounting bolt;
  • remove the key with the gear wheel.

Experts recommend numbering the main bearing caps to avoid confusion during reassembly. You can also mark the disc tappets if you are replacing them too. The new upgraded camshaft is installed in the reverse order.

After installing a sports camshaft, the engine will no longer “knock your toes” as before.

Replacing the control unit

This work is also usually classified as general tuning of the VAZ 2110. At the factory, the cars are equipped with old Bosch units, which experts recommend replacing with new ECMs from General Motors.
