  • At this stage, we remove the tire and also dismantle the bolts that secure the steering knuckle and the shock absorber strut bracket. The adjustment is made by moving the steering knuckle in a certain direction.

Equipment used

After a couple of months, for an inexplicable reason, sometimes the first gear began to “get lost,” although I was already completely accustomed to the car. But in real conditions, the rear suspension should perform the function of steering and reduce roll when cornering. The independent multi-link suspension copes well with such tasks. But it has its “innate” disadvantages. Having weighed all the pros and cons, AvtoVAZ designers gave preference to a beam that was inexpensive in terms of cost and maintenance.

  • The beam is formed by a rigid connection of two longitudinal and one transverse lever. Many sources make no mention of levers, since a single structure - a beam - has long been in the vocabulary of car enthusiasts.
  • The shock absorbers and springs are separated, that is, they are not aligned. Some experts see this as an increase in the number of support points. As a result, the vehicle's stability increases. Others consider this decision to be a foundation for the future, because it is planned to release an all-wheel drive version of the Lada Vesta SW Cross.
  • The drums and hubs were inherited from their predecessors. Disc brakes, of course, are much more efficient, but since the Cross version is designed for outdoor activities, dirt may get on the brake mechanism. The drum system is less demanding in this regard. There is another expert opinion, which is that the manufacturer decided to save on some components so that the cost of the new product does not reach prohibitive values.

Externally, the rear suspension design has much in common with the already classic version. And, nevertheless, West station wagons are equipped with higher springs.

The bottom line is the intensive (sometimes even merciless) use of the car at testing sites.

The picture turned out to be not so optimistic. Already at 25,000 km the shock absorbers began to leak. It is noteworthy that Reno’s sores were passed on to Vesta, as if by inheritance. The silent blocks of the rear beam can be considered a consumable material that will have to be replaced after a quarter of the declared resource. The suspension is discouraging. Despite the relationship with Logan and Sandero, the Xray chassis is perceived as stiffer, and by an order of magnitude. The energy intensity remains, but, unfortunately, the new product’s arsenal does not include soft passage of deep “funnels”. The painless ride on a broken road, characteristic of Logan and Sandero, has disappeared.

On cobblestones, passengers are not in danger of dozing off.

Even tram rails throw the Xray off balance, not to mention larger obstacles. Shaking a sleeping passenger is a trifle.

Marvelous! But you can put up with all this if you perceive Xray as just a machine and ignore the price list. Alas, in real life you cannot escape price pressure, and the range of 589,000 - 723,000 rubles forces you to test the Lada X-ray more strictly. However, the closest class alternative - the progenitor of the Sandero Stepway - is still more expensive (from 629,900 rubles). Models of a similar design are also more expensive: Kia Soul (from RUR 824,900), Nissan Juke (from RUR 679,000), Peugeot 2008 (from RUR 1,064,000) and Suzuki SX4 Classic (from RUR 785,000). Standing aside is the larger and more controversial Chery Tiggo FL (from 599,000 rubles). Once, a real buyer of a Lada X-ray who met in a stream compared it with Polo, Solaris and Ravon Gentra.

The Lada X-ray made the 350 km between Tolyatti and Kazan easily, gradually instilling hope that with the growing well-being of our citizens, it could become a people's car. To do this, however, we need to take Kazan and many other cities of Russia.
