Description of the functions of the interior lighting unit (BOS)

When the ignition is turned on, the system status indicator No. 4 lights up red for 5 seconds, then goes out. Guide to using the ERA GLONASS system

The LADA vehicle is equipped with an in-vehicle emergency call system (SVES). Calling the system operator can occur automatically (in case of an emergency), as well as manually. A microphone and speaker are used to communicate with the operator.

SOS – button to call the operator of the “ERA GLONASS” system. This is a push-button type switch with a non-fixed “on” position. The key press time to initiate an emergency call is 2 seconds.

In standby mode (with the ignition on), the system performs:

  • carrying out self-diagnosis;
  • reception of signals from GLONASS and GPS navigation satellite systems;
  • constant time calculation;
  • constant speed calculation;
  • constant calculation of the direction of movement;
  • constant calculation of the coordinates of the vehicle's location.

Automatic emergency call

If airbags are deployed at the time of an accident, the system generates a minimum set of data (coordinates, vehicle movement parameters, time, vehicle VIN code and other information) that is necessary for emergency response, and transmits it to the operator of the ERA GLONASS system.

After the data is transferred, the operator is dialed for voice communication (the sound of the radio is muted automatically).

  • During a call, the SOS key backlight flashes red.
  • When transmitting a minimum set of data and during voice communication with the operator, the backlight of the “SOS” key lights up continuously in red.

Dialing is carried out only when the ignition is on.

Manual emergency call (SOS key)

Unlike the automatic mode, the manual mode is available not only when the ignition is on, but also for 72 hours after the ignition is turned off. To make an emergency call manually, press the “SOS” button on the interior lighting unit and hold it pressed for at least 2 seconds.

The system operation algorithm for a manual emergency call is similar (see automatic mode). To cancel a call, during a call (while the “SOS” button backlight is flashing red), press the “SOS” button again and hold for at least 2 seconds (the “SOS” button backlight will turn off).

It was also possible to test the ERA-GLONASS system in real conditions. After the Vesta crash test, the system automatically sent an accident signal to the dispatcher with the exact coordinates of the car:

Off mode

If the ignition is turned off and at least 72 hours have passed since it was turned off, the system switches to the “Off” mode. In this mode, the SOS button is not backlit and the system status indicator is off. When you press the “SOS” button, the system does not respond. To turn on the SVEOS, you must turn on the ignition.

Test mode

The testing mode is intended to check the functionality of the SVES components:

  • SVEOS status indicator;
  • microphone and speaker in the interior lighting unit;
  • backup battery;
  • other internal system components.

To start testing mode yourself you need to:

  • make sure the engine is turned off;
  • turn the key in the ignition switch (ЗЗ) to the “Ignition on” position and wait 1 minute;
  • From the “Ignition on” position, switch the ignition switch 6 times between the “Ignition on” and “+ ACC” positions according to the algorithm described below for no more than 5 seconds:

After the 3rd ignition switch (switching ZZ No. 6), the system goes into test mode if the engine did not start during the entry procedure. You should hear "Test procedure started." After the phrase “Say the control phrase,” you will need to say any phrase lasting no more than 5 seconds. Immediately after this, you will hear “Check Phrase Playing,” followed by the phrase you spoke.

The audio prompt “Enter your verification result” will then play. If testing of the microphone and speaker was successful, then it is necessary to switch 33 2 times according to the algorithm described below within no more than 3 seconds:

If there were errors during testing (the spoken phrase was not reproduced, it was played back too quietly or with distortions, etc.), then after the words “Enter the test result,” no switches 33 need to be made for 7 seconds. In this case, contact your dealer to resolve the problem.

Backup battery

The SVEOS control unit contains a backup battery, which ensures the system’s functionality in the event of damage to the vehicle’s battery during an accident. When the ignition is turned on, the charge level of the backup battery is monitored, as well as recharging it if necessary. The service life of the backup battery is 3 years. The backup battery can only be replaced at certified service stations.

You can also make sure that it is the ERA-GLONASS unit that is frozen by running the self-diagnosis mode of the unit: you need to turn on the ignition, wait one minute and then turn the key from the “ignition” state to “+ACC” six times and the unit should go into test mode:

If the car is parked in a garage or there are bad weather conditions outside, the test may not pass, since there will be no stable reception of the satellite signal.

If the unit does not respond and is silent, then AvtoVAZ officially recommends restarting it. There are two ways to do this. I tested both methods and they work.

1. We disconnect the negative (or positive, whichever is more convenient) terminal from the battery and wait 5-10 minutes. Usually after this the ERA-GLONASS block comes to life. True, then it may still freeze after an indefinite period of time, or maybe not, depending on your luck.

2. If the first method does not help, then you need to open the ERA GLONASS unit (of course, if the car is not under warranty) and disconnect the built-in battery for 15-30 minutes, it looks like a battery from a regular phone, nickel metal hydride:

After this, the GPS should work.

Well, if all else fails, then the unit needs to be replaced. The replacement entails not only significant costs, since this unit is expensive, but also a visit to the State Traffic Inspectorate to enter the number of the virtual SIM card of the ERA GLONASS unit into the electronic vehicle title. I’ll say right away that at the moment this procedure has not been fully worked out and therefore some dealers advise you to register the data of your unit on the ERA GLONASS website (but how exactly this procedure occurs is also not yet clear).

The GPS antenna itself, like the radio antenna (with its own signal amplifier) ​​is located in the so-called “fin” on the roof of the car:

From the fin, the antenna wire runs along the right side of the car and, going down the right pillar, enters the ERA-GLONASS unit. By the way, if the wire or the GPS antenna itself is suddenly damaged, satellite reception will still be available, although not as confident. Therefore, if the GPS signal is completely lost, then it is not the antenna or a broken wire that is to blame, but the ERA-GLONASS unit itself.

The block itself is attached to one latch. First you need to remove the climate control unit, and then simply move it away from you deeper into the car. There is no need to disconnect any connectors from the blocks.

Now we disconnect all the connectors from it, unscrew one screw (it’s under the white sticker in the center and the seal is also damaged!), press the latches on the sides and disconnect the battery. We wait half an hour and install everything in the reverse order (unfortunately, I didn’t think to take a photo of the insides of the block, but everything is simple here). We test the unit and check the GPS signal:

A manual request can be performed with the engine running, ignition on and off.
During the autonomous period, its own battery is used. The system is operational for 3 days in the absence of ignition. The driver must press the emergency call button and not release it for at least 2 seconds. The backlight turns white and then starts flashing red. The emergency warning system is launched: communication with satellite navigators is carried out, the nature of the vehicle’s movement, the position of the driver and passengers in the cabin (the condition of seat belts and airbags) are determined.

Then the coordinates of the vehicle's location are determined. The received data, as well as information about the VIN, number, color of the car, availability and type of fuel are transmitted to the operator via the Internet or mobile phone.

Within a few seconds after the call, a call is received from the ERA-GLONASS contact center. The operator clarifies whether the call is false, what problems have arisen, gives instructions on further actions and, if necessary, transmits data to the line “112”, 02, 03. During the entire voice communication, the key backlight glows without interruption.

Attention! To cancel a call, press the key again for 2 seconds until it goes out.

When calling the operator, report a false call.

Decoding errors

Each error code consists of five characters. The last two characters indicate the serial number of the specific error.

The first character changes based on the fault system in the car:

  1. P – malfunctions in the operation of the power plant or defects in the operation of the gearbox.
  2. U – disruption of interaction between system units.
  3. B – electric lifts, airbag and other defects in body systems.
  4. C – faults associated with the EUR.

Next character:

  • 3 – reserve;
  • 1 and 2 – manufacturer codes;
  • 0 – general code for on-board diagnostics.

The third character indicates the nature of the malfunction:

  • 1 and 2 – inform about the appearance of defects in the operation of the fuel system or malfunctions during the air supply;
  • 3 – breakdown in the ignition system;
  • 4 – additional control;
  • 5 – incorrectly operating components in idle mode;
  • 6 – electronic unit, as well as its circuits;
  • 7, 8 – gearbox malfunction.

Advantages of car tracking using GLONASS

Depending on the type of installed system, the user receives the following data:

The Lada Vesta will already have a device installed in its initial configuration, which, in the event of a car being involved in an accident, automatically determines the location of the vehicle and, via mobile communication channels, transmits coordinates, time and data on the severity of the accident, as well as the VIN number to the ERA-GLONASS system car to System-112 or the duty station of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. If the driver is able, he can give a signal independently by pressing the appropriate button.

The ERA-GLONASS device works even when the car battery is disconnected. The emergency call service is free of charge.

Experts claim that ERA-GLONASS will save about 4 thousand people annually due to the fact that the response time to accidents is reduced to 30%. The system was put into operation in Russia on January 1, 2015 and connects 83 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

According to the technical regulations of the Customs Union, from the beginning of this year all vehicles undergoing the approval procedure for the first time must be equipped with ERA-GLONASS terminals. From January 1, 2021, the system is required to be installed on vehicles used for the commercial transportation of passengers and dangerous goods, as well as garbage trucks put into circulation in the territory of the Customs Union countries. And from January 1, 2021, all vehicles put into circulation in the territory of the countries of the Customs Union must be equipped with ERA-GLONASS terminals.

We previously wrote that the introduction in Russia from 2021 of a requirement to include ERA-GLONASS devices in the basic equipment of all new cars may affect the release of new models. Foreign car companies experience certain difficulties with device certification. The Association of European Businesses even contacted the Ministry of Industry and Trade so that the department would not ignore this problem. Due to the influx of applications, the only certification center and testing laboratory are overloaded.

A similar eCall system will be launched in European countries in 2018. It is alleged that it will be integrated with the Russian ERA-GLONASS.

Self-test of components and communications of the ERA-GLONASS system

How to turn off the system temporarily

When the device is installed at the factory, the ERA GLONASS terminal is built into the structure of the vehicle. At the same time, a group of sensors is installed that detect side impacts and vehicle rollovers. When installing the device on a personal car, for example, when importing it into Russia from abroad, sensors are not installed. In this case, a terminal is mounted. It connects to the network, and the main function is the SOS button. With its help, you can contact the help desk manually.

If the question is to temporarily disable the GLONASS ERU in a personal car, this can be done in several ways. Let's briefly look at the main options:

Turn off the antenna. A common method for disabling ERA GLONASS on a car is to remove the cord through which the device is powered. It is better to do the work with the ignition off. When performing this step on a personal car, the alarm signal can be sent to the center, but the coordinates of the car are not recorded.

Removing power. To solve the problem, you need to know where the fuse is located (the one through which voltage is supplied). After removing it, the tension should disappear. If you cannot find the fuse link, disconnect the device from the on-board network in another way, for example, by damaging the supply wires. In this case, the device will operate on battery power for three days, after which it will turn off completely.

When working for a company in a personal car, the question may arise of how to disconnect the FLS from GLONASS in the tank. Many different methods are also used to hide the fact of fuel consumption. The most popular ones include:

  • draining fuel through the return line;
  • damage to the sensor connected to the on-board computer;
  • violation of the integrity of the connectors;
  • installing needles in wires to short-circuit circuits;
  • supply of increased voltage;
  • adding foreign objects to the tank, etc.

How to jam Glonass on a car using artificial interference?

Satellite signal jammers are not difficult to find - there are many of them, but understand here that by jamming the signal, the map of your movements will not go anywhere. After the connection is restored, the data will be automatically sent.

The same goes for shielding. When the sensors are covered with special materials, the signal disappears, although only distant satellites are jammed. Even if there is no connection, the data is saved and sent as soon as a connection appears.

There are such ways to bypass control, but one cannot expect a significant and expected result from them. Keep in mind that actions aimed at causing damage or circumventing control are subject to administrative violation. Therefore, think before you deceive Glonass.

Pressed the Glonass button and held it for more than 2 seconds. Nothing happened, complete silence. The system does not work when the battery is disconnected. If your battery is dead, you will not be able to reach the operator. I reconnected the battery and checked the operation of Era Glonass again. The call went out immediately and the system employee answered. I asked how I could be heard, he said fine.

I said that I was checking how Glonass works, and asked to tell me my location and the make of the car. The operator replied that he saw the car on the map and named the model. This is how I found out that everything works fine, but without a battery it will not be possible to reach emergency services. Therefore, be careful on long trips.

How to track a car using GLONASS through a computer?
