Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil

  1. Before you begin directly replacing the technical fluid, you should warm up the car engine to operating temperature. After this, we drive the car onto an overpass or lift, turn off the engine and place a container with a volume of about 4 liters under the oil pan.
  2. Open the hood and unscrew the filler cap, which is located on the valve cover, by hand.
  3. Next, use a 12mm wrench to unscrew the drain plug, which is located on the engine sump. Proceed with extreme caution, as you can burn yourself on the hot lubricant.
  4. We wait until the technical fluid has completely drained from the engine, after which we can begin further work. As a rule, this takes about half an hour. Remember that if you do not unscrew the filler cap, this will create increased pressure in the system, which prevents oil from flowing out of the drain hole.
  5. The oil filter can be unscrewed either using a special wrench or a screwdriver, which pierces its body and acts as a lever, which allows you to unscrew the filter from the thread. Be careful as there may be a small amount of grease in the filter element. If you do not have a puller, you can try to unscrew the filter by hand. Just be careful, as you can get burned on a hot engine.
  6. We screw back the drain plug in the oil pan and install a new filter element. It is necessary to pour a small amount of oil into the filter, and also lubricate the existing rubber O-ring. The oil filter must only be tightened by hand.
  7. After tightening the drain plug and filter, you can begin to pour oil into the engine. This is done through the filler plug on the valve cover. Fill in about 3 liters and wait 5-10 minutes, which is necessary for the oil to settle and check its level with a dipstick. The oil level should be between the corresponding marks on the dipstick.

Procedure for performing work when changing the oil

To ensure the speed and efficiency of the process, it is recommended to change the fluid in the rear gearbox immediately after the vehicle has been driven - this technique will warm up the oil and help drain it from the crankcase faster, also along with various suspended particles accumulated in the rear axle.

The algorithm of actions when changing the oil in the rear axle of a VAZ is as follows:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to drain the used oil fluid - to do this, you need to remove the plug at the drain hole located at the bottom of the crankcase. After this, when the liquid is drained, you need to screw the plug back. If you decide to drain the consumable immediately after warming up the car, you must be careful, because the oil temperature can reach very high levels;
  2. Before adding oil, make sure that dirt is removed from the gearbox. If the drained liquid is colored black and contains impurities in the form of metal filings, which indicates that the gearbox is not working properly, you must first wash it with viscous oil.   3. Next you need to unscrew the filler plug. Afterwards, using a specific syringe, you need to fill the gearbox on the rear axle with new transmission oil. You should carefully consider the level of the poured composition - it must correspond to the lowest level of the edge located at the hole. After this, when the liquid is poured in, you need to screw in the plug;
  4. Next, you need to check whether it is worth cleaning the breather from dirt. It is needed in order to relieve excess pressure inside the gearbox, which is obtained due to heating of the oil composition.

Steering of a VAZ 2107 car

On the VAZ 2107 model, the steering has a safety design with an articulated-lever steering wheel drive and a worm-roller gearbox.

  • The steering gearbox is secured with three bolts in the engine compartment on the left side member.
  • An adjusting screw installed on the top cover of the gear housing can be used to adjust the gap in the engagement of the double-ridge roller and the worm built into the structure of the device.
  • Approximately 0.2 liters of oil is poured into the steering gear housing.
