Chip tuning is a modification of the car's microprocessor. Lada Kalina
The operation of the Lada-Kalina engine is controlled by an on-board computer (in common parlance - “brains”). Depending on the software (which is stitched into the on-board computer), the engine operates in one mode or another. The software (firmware) is developed by specialists and “poured” into the “brains”, which are installed at the car manufacturer.
In the case of the Lada-Kalina, until recently, this was the second factory version of the “brains” firmware. Now the third factory version has already been released, which significantly added dynamics to the car and smoothed out the loss of engine power when the air conditioner is running.
However, many car enthusiasts prefer so-called tuning firmware
. This is software developed by third parties. A characteristic difference between the tuning firmware from Paulus for the Lada-Kalina is an even more significant (compared to the factory firmware) increase in the car’s dynamics at the “lower” range, while gasoline consumption (especially on the highway) is reduced due to more optimal engine operating modes in high gears.
Personally, my subjective feelings after uploading the tuning firmware from Paulus to my Lada-Kalina 1.4 liter (16 valves):
- The car picks up more confidently at the bottom, instantly responding to pressing the gas pedal;
- You can easily accelerate “through gear”, for example, 1-3-5 gears;
- In the city you can drive in 3rd or 4th gear (depending on the traffic flow) almost like an “automatic” (i.e., without shifting), since the third gear confidently pulls starting from 25-30 km/h, and the fourth from 40 -45 km/h + these gears on the Lada Kalina are long, so the range of their operation after tuning the brain firmware has increased significantly;
- The same can be said about fifth gear when driving on the highway (for example, I calmly drove in fifth gear uphill with the air conditioning on, maintaining a speed of 80 km/h, while the computer showed instantaneous gasoline consumption of around 9 liters);
- Turning on the air conditioner has almost no effect on the drop in engine power. No, of course, there is definitely a drop (you shouldn’t expect a miracle from 1.4 liters), but it is much less noticeable than with the second factory firmware (at least now you can confidently drive with the air conditioning on in city mode without fear stall at an intersection);
- It is difficult to say that the engine operation has become quieter or smoother, since these are purely subjective sensations. Well, maybe the engine began to run a little “calmer” at idle, but when driving in low gear its sound became more aggressive, IMHO.
As a result, having spent 10 minutes of time and a symbolic amount of $40, I received, one might say, a different car - more dynamic, economical, and working confidently with the air conditioning on.
To change or not to change the firmware is a purely personal matter. It should be noted right away that if the car is under warranty, then when updating the tuning firmware it is automatically removed from the warranty, since in this case the manufacturer does not guarantee proper operation of the engine.
Well, and, of course, brain filling should only be done by knowledgeable, qualified specialists. It would be even better if they are official representatives of manufacturers of tuning firmware.

I don't agree. If we compare the accuracy of determining consumption, then the receipts will clearly have a large error (albeit in the direction of increasing), but the “computer” shows quite accurately, if, of course, you use it correctly. For everyday use, you can't imagine anything better. And if there is a question about a very precise definition, then at home it is best to pour fuel under the tank cap, drive a certain number of km, the more the better, then from a measuring container (at least one and a half ounces of water) add gasoline into the tank is plugged again and then perform simple mathematical calculations.

If you just lower the side window and open the hood and listen carefully, then you can really notice the inclusion of “Carlson” at XX. And also, sorry, of course, Pavel, but I will never believe that Kalina-1, especially, to put it bluntly, with such an archaic engine (with unoptimized intake and exhaust, considerable friction losses, a large mass of moving parts of the CPG, etc.) d.) at a speed of 120-140 km/h. supposedly can consume only 5.9 liters. gasoline. Why the ECU on the Lada Kalina does not work - the main reasons

How to remove the ECU on a Lada Kalina - step-by-step instructions
In order to remove the ECU unit on a Lada Kalina, you must perform the following procedure:
- First you need to unscrew 2 screws, the location of the first is shown by the arrow. The second is at the same level on the engine side. Before doing this, you must remember to remove the terminal from the battery. After unscrewing the screws, do you need to pull the block towards the passenger door? and he must leave from there along the guides. Sometimes it happens that the wires rest against the carpet. Then they need to be corrected.
- In order to remove the connector and disconnect the unit from the wires, you first need to: pull the connector lock to the side. The latch is a bracket. I think you can easily find it on the connector.
How does the ECU work?
The data that comes from sensors contains various characteristics. For example, a mass air flow sensor (MAF) collects and transmits data on the volume of air entering the system - the more air the engine consumes, the higher its dynamic characteristics. If the indicators are overestimated, this will inevitably lead to increased fuel consumption. The ECU on the Lada Kalina is able to track such deviations and report a malfunction to the owner, although it will continue to issue commands based on incorrect data.

The ECU on Kalina is filled with antifreeze - what to do?
After the block filled with antifreeze has been removed, its initial inspection should be carried out. For these purposes, it is necessary to remove 4 screws using a star screwdriver. Then you should slowly remove the control board for a visual inspection. The most common failure is the burnout of the ignition coil output switch. In this case, repair will not help.
As a result of such a malfunction, the Lada Kalina starts working on only 2 cylinders, and sometimes refuses to start at all. You can cope with a similar problem in a stationary workshop. There they will remove the damaged element, wash and dry it. The second most common problem is board burnout. It is not difficult to detect such a defect: the characteristic blackening of the board will leave no doubt.
Is it possible to repair the ECU in this case? The answer to this question can only be given by a service center, but experience shows that repairs will not help here. A complete replacement is required. It happens that sometimes the brain circuitry is slightly damaged. If this happens, then the car owner can get off easy. To restore the car to working order, you will need some minor repairs:
- wipe the block with a dry cloth;
- rinse with WD-40 several times and blow it out with a compressor;
- rinse several times in alcohol and blow again with a compressor;
- dry well, otherwise the Lada Kalina will not move;
- drying takes at least 1-2 hours.
ECU interchangeability on Lada Kalina
I will give a table of interchangeability of Kalina ECU
. This data was not verified by me personally, but by one authoritative master. The interchangeability of these blocks applies only to blocks with factory firmware (that is, after installation there is no need to reflash the block for your engine and sensors). So, in each line there is a block marking, firmware version and toxicity class.
- Bosch 21114-1411020-40 with software B104CR01(02) Euro3 (in my cases it was this one) can be replaced with:
- Bosch 21114-1411020-40 with software B102СQ05(CR06) Euro3;
- Bosch 11183-1411020-02 with software B101CR01(02) Euro2.
All of the above Bosch blocks can be replaced with domestic Janvr7.2 and 7.2+ blocks.
Domestic blocks are all Euro 2, with the exception of M73 blocks - they are Euro3. January 7.2 and 7.2+ blocks manufactured by Avtel or Itelma (Euro2) for Kalina 1.6l 8V: 7.2 11183-1411020-21(22) with software A(I) 201CO56(57)(58); 7.2+ 11183-1411020-21(22) with software A(I)201CP57. These blocks do not support air conditioning, as I understand it. And, in fact, the M73 blocks, which are suitable for Kalina. These units are all Euro 3: M73 21114-1411020-41 with software A303CE05(CF06) Euro3 (support air conditioning); M73 21114-1411020-42 with software I303CE05(CF06) Euro3 (support air conditioning).
Thus, all of the listed ECUs with Euro3 toxicity class can be changed and can be changed among themselves without hesitation (only if they have factory firmware).
