Lada Granta car air conditioner diagram

Compressor-type air conditioning is installed on Lada Granta cars. The air conditioning button is located on the panel common with the heater controls. Air conditioning on the Lada Granta car is installed only in the luxury configuration. In this article we would like to address the issues of operation and care of the Lada Granta air conditioner. Despite the advantages of an air conditioner, when it will save you from the heat in hot weather, it also has certain disadvantages - requirements for its maintenance. Compliance with these requirements will significantly help you extend the life of your air conditioner, and therefore eliminate possible problems. First of all, let's start with the flow diagram of the refrigerant in the Lada Granta air conditioner, as well as with the main elements used in it. The operating principle and features of each component will be discussed below.

Schematic diagram of the movement of refrigerant in the Lada Granta air conditioning system:

1 – combined pressure sensor; 2 – high pressure pipeline section; 3 – receiver-dryer; 4 – service valve of the high pressure line; 5 – condenser (air conditioner radiator); 6 – fan of the condenser and radiator of the cooling system; 7 – air conditioning compressor; 8 – low pressure pipeline section; 9 – service valve of the low pressure line; 10 – heater (stove) fan; 11 – evaporator; 12 – thermostatic valve

The Lada Granta air conditioning compressor is installed on the engine cylinder block and is driven by a serpentine belt. It circulates refrigerant in the system. The compressor shaft is installed in the front housing cover on bearings and sealed on the drive pulley side with an oil seal. The compressor drive pulley is mounted on a double-row ball bearing and rotates constantly when the engine is running. When the air conditioner is turned on, torque is transmitted from the pulley to the compressor shaft through a friction clutch with an electromagnetic drive. About the conventions

Let us remember that the practical Lada Granta model went into production back in 2011. This modern car is full of new modifications of complex instruments and electronic devices. All this aims to provide the driver with maximum driving comfort. Today VAZ produces the Lada Granta in three versions in terms of equipment:

The first two options have the same wiring diagram, but in the “Lux” it is different. It's a shame that the factory operating instructions for the car do not contain this wiring diagram. However, do not rush to get upset, because such an album with the entire list of schemes can be purchased in the market network of auto goods.

Electrical cabling involves the presence of a large number of bundles. The wiring diagram has symbols and serial numbers, each of which is assigned to a strictly specific pantograph. These consumers in the diagram are switched into the general network via conventional lines. To increase clarity, the developers used different colors for the lines. Next, the wires are assembled into bundles, which are connected to electrical units using special connectors.

Signs of serviceability and malfunction of the Lada Granta air conditioning system

If the system is working properly, then when the air conditioner is turned on, a click is heard - this is the clutch pressure plate, under the action of an electromagnet, engages with the drive pulley, and the compressor rotor begins to rotate. But during operation of the air conditioner, the following compressor malfunctions may occur. 1. If, when the air conditioner is turned off, the clutch makes extraneous sounds during rotation, gets hot, or has a burning smell, then its bearing has probably started to jam and slow down the system. 2. If you don’t hear a click after turning on the air conditioner, then the following problems are possible: – a refrigerant leak has occurred and the control system is blocking the compressor from turning on; – the pressure sensor in the system has failed; – malfunctions in the electrical circuits of the control system; – the winding of the clutch electromagnet coil has burned out; – the engine control unit for some reason (high engine coolant temperature, high engine speed) blocked the compressor from turning on. 3. If the clutch rotates easily and freely, but when you turn on the air conditioner you can clearly hear extraneous noise or even the engine stalls at idle, then the compressor is most likely jammed. The internal pumping part of the compressor cannot be repaired. In this case, the compressor assembly will have to be replaced. 4. Another option. A click is heard, the clutch easily rotates the compressor shaft, but the air in the cabin is not cooled. In this case, the compressor runs idle, pumping nothing. Only an experienced specialist with special monitoring and diagnostic equipment can determine this malfunction. The cause of the malfunction can be most accurately determined after a complete diagnosis at a specialized service center for the repair of automobile air conditioners. Most likely there is no refrigerant in your system, but, as we have already said, only a mechanic at a specialized station can accurately summarize the malfunction. Next, we will look at the components of the air conditioning system.

Signs

Timely troubleshooting of compressor faults is important, so it is important to be able to recognize typical signs of breakdowns. This will not only save time on repairs, but also prevent more serious damage that cannot be repaired at home. Below are the most common symptoms of a faulty car air conditioning compressor.

Appearance of noise

Suspicious sounds may come from the compressor when the engine is running and the air conditioning is turned off. There is a high probability that the appearance of noise is associated with damage to the bearing (its slight movement in the seat due to overheating or damage to the electromagnetic coil). In such cases, it is necessary to replace the failed part, otherwise prolonged operation of the cooling system with a skewed pulley will lead to jamming of the compressor and more serious damage.

The air conditioning compressor is noisy

Clutch doesn't work

If the clutch does not turn on even when voltage is applied to the coil, then the problem must be looked for in the distance (gap) between the pressure plate or pulley. Also, a malfunction of the electromagnetic clutch may be due to its melting. Also, the clutch may not engage due to excessive bearing wear.

Electromagnetic coupling

The problem can be solved by replacing the damaged bearing or other parts (pressure plate, coil, etc.). To work, you will need a standard set of tools that should be in the trunk of every motorist.

Compressor leakage

One of the most common malfunctions, which, if the part body remains intact, can be easily eliminated by replacing the repair kit. To do this, the device must be disassembled, washed, new elements installed and reassembled. In rare cases, the tightness is broken when the housing is damaged, but there is no need to buy a new compressor, since damaged areas of the part can be restored using argon welding.

Application of argon welding

Noise when the engine is running

When the engine is running and the air conditioning is on, a knocking or monotonous hum may occur that comes from the compressor. In this case, the device can work properly. Here you need to check the discharge and suction lines with the car air conditioner turned on - a pressure drop is possible.

Metallic knock in the compressor area

Condenser (air conditioner radiator) Lada Granta

The multi-flow type condenser is located in front of the radiator of the engine cooling system in the engine compartment. It is attached using brackets to the radiator frame. The condenser honeycomb is made of flat, thin-walled aluminum tubes with internal longitudinal baffles for rigidity and external fins to improve heat transfer. Aluminum tanks, with flanges for connection to pipelines. The height of the tanks is divided into sections, therefore, passing through the condenser, the flow of refrigerant changes direction several times. In the condenser, the vapors of the refrigerant compressed by the compressor are condensed and the heat released is removed into the surrounding air. When the air conditioner is turned on, the engine control unit turns on the power supply circuit for the electric radiator fan, which improves heat transfer in the condenser and reduces the pressure in the air conditioning system.

Tips for the care and operation of the Lada Granta air conditioner condenser

At least once a year, preferably before the start of summer operation, wash the fins A and B of the condenser to remove dirt on their surface. This will improve heat transfer, reduce pressure in the system and increase the service life of system elements.

Do not use high-pressure water jets to clean the condenser. This may cause damage to the B thin-walled fin plates. Even with regular cleaning, the need to replace the condenser arises much more often than we would like. The fact is that it is the first to absorb the flow of deicing agents, dirt and pebbles from the road. And the walls of the tubes are thin. In most cases, the condenser is damaged by corrosion in the third or fourth year of operation. If the seal of the condenser is compromised as a result of corrosion, it will be more expensive to repair it. Even if an argon welder manages to patch the hole, a leak may soon appear in another place. By the way, the pressure in the system on hot days can reach 25-28 bar. In addition, the complex structure of the condenser tube should be taken into account: along it it is divided by partitions into channels, so there is a high probability that after welding some of the channels will be blocked. Accordingly, the dissipated power will drop and the performance of the air conditioner will deteriorate, especially in traffic jams and in hot weather. After each experiment with patching the condenser, you will need to pay for removal, installation, welding of the condenser and refilling the system with refrigerant. So it is better to immediately install a new condenser.

Malfunction of the compressor itself

Noise during operation of a car air conditioner may be a result of a compressor failure. This malfunction occurs for several reasons:

  1. Incorrect charging of the system.
  2. Failures in the movement of freon due to a jammed wire or a closed thermostatic valve.
  3. The air conditioner fan is faulty or the condenser is clogged.

To identify the problem, an inspection of the fans cooling the condenser and the motor is required. Their malfunction leads to increased pressure. You should check whether the capacitor is dirty. If the device is not repaired, this may lead to the compressor jamming.

Air conditioner evaporator Lada Granta

The evaporator (cabin air conditioning radiator) is located in the air conditioning unit in the passenger compartment, under the instrument panel. The evaporator is made of aluminum tubes with external fins to improve heat transfer. As the boiling refrigerant passes through the evaporator tubes, it actively absorbs heat from the air in the cabin. When the fan in the cabin is turned on, the air flow blows on the outer developed surface of the evaporator tubes. The air is cooled and supplied to the vehicle interior. At the bottom of the evaporator there is a tray and a drainage hole that removes excess moisture (condensation) from the passenger compartment. The drainage hole should always be free, which will save you from stagnant processes in the evaporator area and from unpleasant odors in the cabin.

Receiver-dryer air conditioner Lada Granta

The receiver is made of aluminum alloy. Inside the housing there is a filter element filled with desiccant granules (silica gel). The liquefied refrigerant passing through the receiver is cleaned of possible impurities, dirt and moisture. In case of repair or replacement of elements of the air conditioning system, if it was in an open state (any components were removed, pipelines were destroyed, etc.), the receiver-dryer must be replaced. Otherwise, after charging the system, the refrigerant will not be dried and acids may form inside the system, which will destroy the air conditioner parts from the inside.

Air conditioner piping

Pipelines connect all elements of the air conditioning system into a single sealed circuit. The pipelines and their mounting flanges are made of aluminum alloys. Protect metal sections of pipelines from dents and kinks. Any narrowing of the pipeline flow area leads to a decrease in system performance. To connect the moving elements of the air conditioner, the pipelines in some areas are equipped with flexible inserts (Fig. below) made of synthetic materials.

Rice. Design of the flexible insert hose: 1 – outer protective sheath; 2 – fabric cord of the load-bearing frame; 3 – plastic sealing layer; 4 – internal oil-resistant layer O-rings made of neoprene are installed at the joints of pipelines. When repairing an air conditioner when sections of pipelines are disconnected, the O-rings must be replaced. Tighten the threaded connections of the pipelines to the recommended torque. Weak or excessively tight tightening leads to deformation of the sealing surfaces and leakage of refrigerant. Now you have basic information about the elements used in the air conditioning system of a Lada Granta car and how to care for them. Specialized information on the method of filling the air conditioner with refrigerant and detecting leaks in the system will be discussed in other articles

Replacing the air conditioning compressor drive belt

Loosen the locknut of the tensioner screw by rotating the screw clockwise using the hexagon.

We remove the belt from under the tension roller and remove it from the pulleys.

Install the belt in the following sequence:

— damper pulley 5;

— pulley 2 of the air conditioning compressor;

— pulley 3 generator;

— tension roller 4;

We adjust the belt tension by rotating the tension roller screw using the hexagon counterclockwise.

After adjustment, lock the screw with a locknut. The tightening torque of the lock nut is 15 – 24 Nm (1.5 – 2.4 kgf.m).

After adjustment, turn the crankshaft one or two turns clockwise by the damper mounting bolt. We control the tension of the belt on the branch at point “A”.

How to use air conditioning on LADA cars

July 26, 2020 Lada.Online 32,056

All modern LADA cars (Granta, Vesta, Largus, XRAY, 4×4, Niva) are equipped with air conditioners. Among the owners there are many for whom LADA became the first car. In this regard, many questions related to the climate system arise. For example, how to turn on and use the air conditioner correctly or how climate control differs from air conditioning. Answers to questions related to air conditioning can be found in the vehicle's operating manual.

Unlike air conditioning, climate control automatically maintains the desired air temperature in the cabin. Climate control is a system consisting of an air conditioner, a heating system, a filtration system, special sensors located in different places, as well as an electronic climate control unit.

Important Notes

  • The air conditioner will turn on only when the engine is running, the interior fan is turned on at any speed and when the outside air temperature is not lower than minus 5 ° C
  • When the air conditioner is running, drops of water may appear under the bottom of the car - this removes condensed moisture from the air.
  • When the button is pressed, at least one of the central or side nozzles must be open, otherwise the air conditioner evaporator may freeze and cut off the air supply to the cabin.
  • It is recommended to direct the air from the ventilation nozzles slightly upward. Do not block the windshield and side window blower nozzles on the instrument panel, as well as the footwell blower nozzles of the front and rear rows of seats with various objects.
  • When the car is moving, the heater/air conditioning fan should always be turned on, at least at 2nd speed, to create excess pressure in the cabin in order to prevent dust and dirt from entering through leaks in the body, as well as to avoid fogging up the windows.
  • When washing a car, do not turn on the climate system fan.
  • When using the air conditioner in conditions of high air humidity and outside temperature from minus 3 ° C to plus 5 ° C, it is recommended to turn on the air conditioner fan at least at speed 3 to avoid freezing of the cooler.
  • Do not direct cooled air onto the windshield when the outside air humidity is high! This may cause the glass to fog up or freeze and impair your vision.
  • It is not recommended to direct the flow of cooled air onto the face and open areas of the body - this can lead to hypothermia and illness.
  • When the air conditioner is operating, the specific fuel consumption increases, because Additional power from the engine is required to drive the compressor.
  • Driving in mountainous areas or in difficult road conditions with a trailer may cause the air conditioning compressor to be switched off to prevent engine overheating.
    In this case, the air entering the cabin will not be cooled. To turn off the air conditioner, press the “air conditioner” button again, the indicator light will go out.

About recycling

Recirculation is turned on using handle No. 3 (Granta, Kalina) or by pressing the arrow button in a circle No. 19 (Vesta, XRAY).

  • To speed up the heating or cooling of the interior after parking the car, you can turn on the recirculation mode for a short time; after reaching a comfortable temperature or when the windows fog up, you must turn on the supply of fresh air.
  • Prolonged use of the recirculation mode may cause the driver to become drowsy or drowsy and result in loss of control. Use recirculation mode only when necessary. It is recommended to preferentially use the supply air mode.
  • You cannot sleep in a car with recirculation mode on. This could result in serious injury or death due to reduced oxygen levels in the vehicle interior.

How to use

Recommendations for choosing the operating mode of the air conditioner

:

  • During the warm season, it is recommended to direct air to the adjustable central and side nozzles on the instrument panel for better ventilation of the cabin. Set the airflow to medium or high to effectively remove excess heat from the interior. Set the minimum temperature of the incoming air, adjust the temperature if necessary.
  • To eliminate fogging of windows, for example in damp weather, it is necessary to direct warm air onto the car windows. Press the or button. Set the air flow speed to medium or maximum to effectively blow the car windows. Set the maximum supply air temperature, adjust the air temperature if necessary. The air supplied to the windows must be warmer than the outside air.

Recommendations for choosing the climate control operating mode:

  • To automatically maintain thermal comfort in the cabin, you must turn on the “AUTO” mode. Use the handle to set a comfortable air temperature in the cabin.
  • The information display displays the set value of the comfortable air temperature in the cabin. This value is conditional and it will not always be equal to the air temperature in the cabin. The control system automatically regulates the temperature, flow rate and air distribution in the cabin depending not only on the set comfort value, but also on the outside temperature, solar radiation intensity, driving mode and other factors.
  • When you press any of the air flow distribution buttons (window, face, legs), the air flow is distributed in accordance with the selected directions. In this case, the control indicator on the “AUTO” button goes out, but the automatic mode is maintained, as evidenced by the absence of the fan symbol and its speed scale on the information indicator;
  • When turning on automatic climate control, it is recommended to first set the information display to a value of 22 degrees comfortable temperature (the nominal value approved by most users), regardless of the surrounding conditions or the state of the vehicle (moving, parking). The system works in such a way as to quickly achieve a given level of thermal comfort and subsequently maintain it at a constant level.
  • If, with the automatic mode turned on, being in the car for a long time (with the engine running, in motion or parked), you feel excessive heat or cold, change the set value of the comfortable temperature up or down, respectively. Use a small adjustment (±1 degree) to find the most comfortable value for you. It is not recommended to change the value of the set comfortable temperature too often, because the system requires a certain time to reach a given level of thermal comfort.
  • If in the “AUTO” mode you set the minimum (LO) or maximum (HI) temperature value on the information display, the control of the air temperature in the cabin will stop and air will be supplied at the minimum or maximum possible temperature. To return to the automatic thermal comfort mode, set the digital temperature value on the information display.
  • The minimum (LO) or maximum (HI) temperature mode will not cool or warm up the interior faster after the vehicle is parked. Always use the nominal comfort temperature of 22 degrees to achieve maximum comfort in the cabin as quickly as possible, including after the vehicle has been parked.

“Defrost MAX” mode (on Vesta, XRAY)

— the air conditioning is forcibly turned on (if conditions permit), electric heating of the windshield and rear windows and side rear-view mirrors. The entire air flow is directed to the blower nozzles of the windshield and front side windows, and the maximum speed and air temperature are set.

Air conditioner prevention

Before turning on the air conditioner for the first time after purchasing a car, as well as after a break in operation of the air conditioner for 60
days or more
, regardless of the external operating conditions and time of year, it is recommended to carry out preventive maintenance of the air conditioning system:

  • start and warm up the engine until the idle speed stabilizes, the air conditioning should be turned off;
  • turn on the fan at 6th speed;
  • set the minimum cooling temperature;
  • select the direction of air flow “into the face”;
  • turn on recirculation;
  • turn on the air conditioner and let it run for at least 5 minutes at an engine speed of no more than 1200 rpm.

When operating the vehicle in the cold season (winter)

It is recommended that at least once a month at positive outside temperatures (in a warm room, but not lower than +2 °C), preventive maintenance of the air conditioning system according to the algorithm described above.
