Once I saw a penny car with a low wooden trunk on a drive and wanted to do something similar. I bought slats, an iron pipe, nuts, bolts and got to work. I cut the tube slightly larger than the size of the roof, then bent it with a sledgehammer.

To increase the vehicle's carrying capacity, an additional structure is used that is mounted on the roof - the trunk. Factory models do not always meet configuration or price requirements. The way out of the situation is to make a simple compartment for cargo with your own hands.

Styling

For lovers of visual effects, the first task will be to refine the appearance of the VAZ-2111 car. No-frills tuning may be limited to replacing the front and rear bumpers, sticking moldings on the sides of the car, and replacing external optical devices. Moreover, there is no need to sculpt something from fiberglass. A striking example is the tuning of the VAZ-2111, a photo of which you can see below. The shape of the radiator grille, slanted modern headlights - and before us is a car that looks more like a completely different car, and not a VAZ-2111. To modify this unit, you must have serious skills and knowledge. Without them, it is not recommended to disassemble the engine to improve it. Therefore, for most VAZ-2111 owners, engine tuning may be limited to installing a turbocharging system and a zero-resistance air filter. This design does not require changing anything in the engine, but it will add power to your engine.

The system can be purchased at car dealerships or automotive markets. Self-installation will not take you much time. The peculiarity of a car with a turbine is that it starts working at high speeds (above 3000). The benefits of a turbocharged engine are obvious - with proper tuning of the engine, the power of the latter will increase significantly.

It should be noted that non-interference with the engine design is only possible when installing a low-pressure turbine not exceeding 0.5 bar. High and ultra-high pressure turbines will require major changes in the design of not only the engine, but also the entire vehicle, from the fuel supply and exhaust gas systems to the braking and clutch systems. But the last option is relevant only for those motorists who decided to create a racing car. Using such a car on everyday trips will be problematic.

Remember to be practical

Depending on the nature of the operation, you can install different springs - reinforced or shortened. The latter give the car a more sporty appearance - the car becomes lower, but at the same time the ground clearance decreases. If you load the trunk and there are passengers sitting in the back, it will be difficult for you to move along the road, and getting onto the unpaved surface may be completely impossible due to the colliery of such roads. It is more common to install reinforced springs and install special repair pads under them. When the car is fully loaded, it will not “sit down,” which will make traveling with a full trunk more comfortable.

The difference in the 2110 modifications is significant - different bodies and engines. Everything else is very similar, so the craftsmen adjust some parts to each other if desired. The production of 2110 stopped back in 2007, but this does not prevent the produced cars from traveling around the country and beyond.

To adjust the position of the door in the opening of the VAZ-2111 car body, unscrew bolts 1 (see Fig. 10.2) securing the fixed hinges and, using the enlarged holes in the body, adjust the gaps around the perimeter of the door. On VAZ-2112 cars, unscrew the nuts 1 (see Fig. 10.3) securing the fixed hinges 2 to the body. After completing the adjustment, tighten the bolts (or nuts).

Installing the trunk on the roof rails

The VAZ 2111 is equipped with roof rails installed during assembly at the factory. These are the so-called high rails, in their upper part spaced from the roof by about 6 cm. Installing the trunk on the rails in this case is not difficult, but if these elements were integrated, a special installation kit would be required to install the trunk. Many models of roof racks are suitable for installation on high roof rails, both from foreign manufacturers - for example, Thule (Sweden) or Nord (China), and domestic ones - Omega-Favorit (manufactured by the Ant rack) or Atlant (Atlant rack). The luggage carrier is supplied with two crossbars of rectangular or aerodynamic cross-section, made of steel or aluminum alloy, and two pairs of their fastenings to the roof rails of the VAZ 2111.

Removal

1). First, remove the lock from the trunk lid. We unscrew the two nuts with which the lock is attached to the lid.

2). Next we remove the lock itself.

3). From here we remove a small spring and check its condition. If the spring is heavily compressed or skewed, we replace it with a new one.

4). After this, we remove the button with the cylinder from the inside of the trunk lid and check the condition of the button in the same way. If, when pressed, the button slows down or is not working at all, then we also replace it with a new one.

Attention! On the VAZ 21099 car, the lid lock cannot be disassembled, and therefore there is no need to try to repair it. In case of defect or malfunction, we replace it with a new one.

Installation

1). First, we put the entire system back together. That is, the previously removed button with a cylinder and a small spring are installed in their places.

2). Next, we install the new lock and tighten it with the same nuts.

3). Then we check how the trunk lid opens and closes. If a distinct knocking sound is heard in the area of the lock, this means either the latch lock does not fit into the latch hole, or the lid closes very poorly.

In this case, it is necessary to make adjustments.

— using a socket with an extension, unscrew the two bolts that secure the clamp.

— After that, we adjust the clamp, and then screw the bolts back.

How to adjust the lock and trunk lid of a VAZ 2114

To adjust the lock on a VAZ 2114 or VAZ 2115, we perform approximately the same steps as in the case of a VAZ 2112. But instructions for adjusting the trunk lid are presented below.

Adjusting the trunk lid can be quite simple, the main thing is to adhere to a certain sequence.

1). First, disconnect the “-” terminal from the battery.

2). Next, open the trunk and disconnect the wires from the trunk lid trim terminals (it is recommended to remove the wiring harness from the trunk cavity).

3). We remove the fastenings of the luggage compartment lining (it is removed together with the license plate illumination).

4). Now we dismantle the lock drives and trunk lid. To do this, unscrew the fastening nuts and disconnect the rod, then remove the drive. Similarly, we also remove the rear door lock itself.

5). Next, disconnect the gas struts, unscrew the lid fasteners (fixed on hinges), and then remove the trunk lid.

6). We apply a special lubricant to the contact parts of the trunk (for example, LSC - 15). We also treat the trunk lock with lubricant.

7). All clearances allowed between the trunk lid and body components must be equal.

. That's all, now you can put the structure back together. We perform the same steps, but only in reverse order.

By the way, I would also like to note that you can adjust the trunk lid on the VAZ 2112 and VAZ 2109 in approximately the same way.

Removal

1. We prepare the car for repair work.

2. Remove the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Remove the trunk shelf.

4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the four self-tapping screws securing the right trunk trim and remove the trim.

5. Using the same screwdriver, unscrew the three screws of the lower fastening.

. and one self-tapping screw for the front mounting of the trunk shelf support.

6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the self-tapping screw securing the lining of the trunk opening pillar.

7. Remove the cover seal from the top of the rear pillar.

8. Use a slotted screwdriver to pry up and remove the rear pillar trim (it is secured to two holders).

9. Using a puller or two slotted screwdrivers, remove the buttons of the three holders for the rear fastening of the ceiling trim.

10. Use a slotted screwdriver to pry up and remove the trim of the trunk opening pillar.

Helpful advice. Note or mark how the wiring harness is routed.

11. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors.

12. On the connector of the trunk lid wiring harness, mark the colors of the wires with a marker.

13. Using a thin slotted screwdriver, press the fixing protrusion of the terminal and pull the wire tip out of the connector. Similarly, disconnect all wires from the connector.

14. Remove the protective cover of the right wiring harness from the hole in the roof panel. Trying not to damage the insulation of the wires with the edges of the hole, pull the wires out.

15. Similarly, remove the wiring harness on the left side of the car.

16. Use a slotted screwdriver to remove the washer hose cover.

17. Pressing the rear edge of the headliner, disconnect the washer nozzle hose from the plastic adapter.

Note. Further operations are carried out with an assistant, who must perform similar actions on the other side of the trunk lid with the same tool.

18. While holding the cover, use a 13 mm open-end wrench to unscrew the ball pin of the upper fastening of the gas stop and disconnect it from the cover.

19. While holding the trunk lid, use a 13 mm spanner to unscrew the two bolts securing the lid to the hinge and remove the lid from the car.

20. If necessary, disassemble the trunk lid.
