Another “regular” TO-4 (60,000 km), with our own hands, or getting ready for winter!

When you buy a new car, you become a member of a warranty program that helps correct problems caused by the vehicle manufacturer. For domestic cars, the concept of routine maintenance (MOT) and warranty obligations was previously a mere formality, since consumers did not expect superior quality from cheap vehicles, and manufacturers allocated very little money for these programs. However, the emergence of new VAZ models, including the Lada Largus station wagon, and a complete change in the policy of relationships with customers by this manufacturer have led to the fact that routine maintenance has become truly useful for motorists. To understand what awaits the owners of a VAZ station wagon during maintenance, it is worth taking a closer look at the Largus maintenance regulations.

Car owners must monitor the condition of the Lada Largus themselves and carry out diagnostics and maintenance on time

TO-1

The first maintenance on the Lada Largus is carried out after 15 thousand kilometers with an error of 500 km or after a year of operation of the car. Thanks to this, it is possible to determine what design defects the machine left the assembly line with, as well as eliminate manufacturing defects. According to the regulations, during maintenance only the oil filter and the oil itself are changed, which ensures engine safety. However, in some regions - for example, with unpaved roads or high levels of industrial pollution, you may need to come to the dealership earlier - this is stipulated by the dealer when concluding a warranty service agreement.

The list of work during maintenance-1 on a Lada Largus in most cases is limited to a simple oil change, but some drivers encounter other problems. Some car owners report that their brake pads were changed during maintenance because they would not last until the next maintenance. There are also reviews about replacing rubber bands on stabilizers and silent blocks, which is due to factory defects and harsh operating conditions. In addition, during maintenance sometimes severe wear of the brake discs is revealed, which requires professional adjustment of the entire system. The cost of the first maintenance is 2360–2490 rubles, depending on the engine installed on the car.

Regulations for Lada Largus 16 valves

Now it's time to undergo the first maintenance on your Largus. We bought a car in Yakhroma, and for maintenance we decided to go to the recently opened local OD AutoReal. I had a choice about where to go for maintenance, but at AutoReal I installed an alarm on my car and I liked their service. So I called Autoreal, they gave me a date and time when I could come, and I agreed to be told in more detail about the features of maintenance in Largus and allowed to photograph the entire process. The management of AutoReal agreed to the meeting, for which I am very grateful to them, and here is my report on the first maintenance.

I was scheduled for 13:00, but I was a little late. Here is my mileage and my arrival time. We note the time it will take me to complete the maintenance.

Like any maintenance, the first one also begins with the reception desk of the service manager. Since everything happens by appointment, there is no rush. If you are completely unlucky, then maybe someone will interrupt the process of accepting the car with some question... These are apparently those who do not yet have a phone and they come in person to ask something. And so, I came, handed over the keys and was free, and there were no artificially created queues.

Before falling into the caring and skillful hands of a master, the car goes through a car wash. This option is not mandatory and if the car is clean, then you can do it without this procedure. But I haven’t washed Largus for three weeks, the roof was frozen and an express wash didn’t stop it. An express wash without chemicals costs 130 rubles at AutoReal and it took about 25 minutes. I did not specify how much a regular car wash costs.

First of all, the technician checked the interior of the car, checked whether the seat belts were working, and then set about replacing the air filter.

And this is what the filter looks like after the first 15 thousand mileage. It looks like he would have gone through the same amount of time.

While the technician is gone, there is an opportunity to take a closer photograph of the place where the air filter was pulled out.

After the technician has removed the air filter, he carefully blows the dust out of the seat with compressed air.

The technician prepares the oil filter for installation by lubricating it with oil.

While the filter is waiting in the wings, the car is raised on a lift, and the foreman from below carefully inspects everything, and also pulls on some other things. The mechanic has no comments on the suspension or anything underneath the car, everything is perfect! In the photo, by the way, you can clearly see the crankcase protection about which there is so much controversy - is it there or not, is it enough or is it made from a tin can? As you can see, there is protection. When it was unscrewed, I had the opportunity to evaluate it - a very strong piece of metal. It is not an even pancake, but a stamped piece of metal with stiffening ribs. You won't be able to bend it with just your hands.

When the pan is unscrewed, drain the oil. The oil is quite dark, but the master said that this is normal and even not fatal yet, it was still possible to drive it. So, if someone decides to do TO-1 not at 14500 like me, but at 15500, then there is nothing to worry about.

This is the color of the oil if you drop it on your finger.

And here is the oil filter, already slightly rolled out of place. This is the only, according to the master, unpleasant place during TO-1, because... It’s in a fairly hard-to-reach place and when you unscrew it, oil splashes out and stains everything below.

You can’t just twist the filter off the duct; for this you need a special device and you have to be clever to change the filter.

While the remaining oil is drained from the crankcase, and it takes a very long time to drain, the technician does not waste time and rinses the crankcase and other places of oil. He applies this liquid from a spray bottle, then thoroughly rinses everything off with a brush and dries it with compressed air. It’s hard to even imagine what thoughts he has towards the “renewal people” during such a procedure!

TO-2

The second maintenance involves some expansion of the list of work performed. In addition to the mandatory oil change mentioned above, the car owner will be faced with replacing the spark plugs, as well as the filter element in the air supply system. In addition, cars equipped with air conditioning undergo cleaning and diagnostics of the climate system during maintenance. Thanks to this, it is possible to avoid a decrease in the efficiency of the device and maintain comfort in the cabin. The second maintenance is carried out after a mileage of 30 thousand kilometers with an error of 500 km or after two years of operation of the vehicle.

The list of works during maintenance-2 on the Lada Largus is usually increased due to procedures not provided for by the regulations. If you did not change the pads at the first maintenance, then with an 80% probability you will have to do this during the second service visit. Many motorists complain about excessive wear on the boots of the left CV joint - it definitely needs to be replaced, and the joint itself needs to be lubricated. A problem arises with uneven pressure in the brake system, which manifests itself in the car’s strong pull when decelerating, as well as with the wheel alignment angles, which require adjustment during maintenance. The cost of maintenance of a Lada Largus during the second visit to a service station is 3460–3790 rubles.

Features of the LADA Largus maintenance regulations

Car owners of Russian cars do not have high expectations about the quality of local assembly, materials used and consumables in the Lada Largus car series. In this case, most drivers strive to adhere to the repair and diagnostic schedules established by the manufacturer. The frequency of work may even include a zero maintenance cycle, during which the machine undergoes a thorough inspection, tightening of important threaded connections and monitoring of the general condition of basic components, systems and mechanisms.

TO-3

The list of work during maintenance 3 on the Lada Largus is again limited to changing the oil. However, some dealers recommend postponing the replacement of spark plugs and brake pads to this period, corresponding to a mileage of 45 thousand kilometers. This is especially true for cars whose second and third maintenance occurs during the warm season. The manufacturer has a negative attitude towards this practice of postponing routine maintenance, but your warranty will not be deprived, since the dealer will not report this to the VAZ warranty service. However, it is better to insist that all maintenance work is carried out in accordance with the regulations.

During TO-3 the number of unforeseen problems also increases. If your car has a problem with excessive wear on the brake discs, this time it will be time to completely replace them. In addition, there is also a malfunction of the engine oil circuit, which is expressed in the leakage of lubricant from the seals - this must be eliminated during routine maintenance in order to avoid worsening the problems. There is also a problem that is associated with the breakdown of door closing sensors - most dealers fix it under warranty, but some accuse car owners of jamming large objects between the body and the door. The cost of TO-3 for Lada Largus is equal to the price of the first maintenance and amounts to 2360–2490 rubles.

How much oil is in the Lada Largus engine?

As it turns out, this is a very controversial point. In my case, exactly 4 liters was enough. As they explained to me, after draining the oil, 300-400 grams still remain in the engine head. Therefore, after checking the dipstick, I was surprised to find that 4 liters was enough for me. By the way, the dipstick is absolutely insane and the oil level is completely invisible on it. Only after serious tricks did I manage to figure out what the oil level was in the engine the twentieth time.

TO-4

The most serious replacements are made for TO-4 for the Lada Largus - the list of works is the same length as all three earlier ones combined. You will need to change the air filter, brake pads, as well as spark plugs and oil. In addition, on the car being serviced, it will be necessary to completely replace the drive belt of additional units (for example, air conditioning) along with the tension roller and other parts of the mechanism. Owners of Lada Largus will need to prepare to inspect the rear drum brakes and clean the air conditioning system, as well as related diagnostics of both units.

The fourth maintenance involves a longer diagnosis of components and assemblies

Among the troubles that arise for motorists after a mileage of 60 thousand kilometers is unstable idle speed - the problem is eliminated with computer diagnostics. There is also a very high probability of failure of brake discs and pads on some cars. A fairly common breakdown is the breakdown of the steering shaft stopper, which is replaced under the warranty program. If the vehicle's chassis mounting angles have not been adjusted in a timely manner, the tires may need to be replaced at this time. The cost of maintenance at dealers is 3460–4190 rubles.

List of works for maintenance-4 mileage 60,000 km.

The regulations for the main operations are duplicated from the first list of works. Also at 60,000 km. mileage, the accessory drive belt is replaced. The list includes updating the spark plug set.

We recommend taking care of the safety of the driver and passengers. This forces the most careful monitoring of the condition of the brake mechanisms for the front and rear wheels. You need to check not only the clutches, but also the hydraulics on each wheel. Air conditioners are cleaned at the appropriate station stands.

Subsequent maintenance

Further maintenance of the Lada Largus is similar to those indicated above - they are also performed every 15 thousand kilometers and contain similar lists of work performed. To know exactly what operations will be performed during maintenance, it is worth indicating the correspondence of subsequent maintenance to earlier ones, as well as their differences:

  • TO-5 is identical to TO-1;
  • TO-6 is identical to TO-2, with the addition of replacing the brake and coolant;
  • TO-7 is identical to TO-1;
  • TO-8 is identical to TO-4, with the addition of a replacement timing belt.

After this, the service book contains no data on the car’s maintenance, however, dealer center specialists say that it is advisable to continue it by visiting the repair zone every 15 thousand kilometers. The list of works will repeat the considered maintenance.

Most often, on cars with a significant mileage, problems occur with brake discs and pads, as well as with a variety of electronic sensors located in the cabin and under the hood. Frequent driving on bad roads causes damage to the sills, which causes corrosion to spread. By 100 thousand kilometers, it may be necessary to replace shock absorbers and some silent blocks, as well as other chassis components. With a mileage of 150 thousand, camshafts are often changed, and up to 200 thousand kilometers the engine will have to be overhauled. However, in general, many technical experts call this car one of the least problematic among the models produced in Russia.

In the future, the maintenance regulations do not change, previous actions are repeated, and repairs are carried out according to the situation.

List of works for maintenance-1 15,000 km. mileage

Most often, the main maintenance of the Lada Largus is considered the first service. It includes a list of works that is repeated at almost every subsequent stage. The list of main works must include not only repair operations, but also diagnostic ones, on the basis of which further actions are carried out.

Based on the TO-1 regulations, it is mandatory to change the oil and oil filter. This will preserve the condition of the engine after running in and grinding in all elements. The air filter is also being updated.

The diagnostic type of work during this mileage interval usually includes the following monitoring:

  • tightness of the cooling system;
  • clutch drive;
  • tire pressure;
  • front suspension (joints, bushings);
  • shock absorbers;
  • the presence of all liquids in the tanks;
  • steering play;
  • tie rod ends;
  • pads and discs;
  • Batteries and lighting elements;
  • windshield condition;
  • presence/absence of areas of body corrosion;
  • locks, doors, hinges;
  • ventilation and air conditioning system.

If some parts of the systems have become unusable, then they must be promptly replaced or repaired if detected at any stage, during maintenance or in the inter-interval period. The estimated cost of the work will be 2.5 thousand rubles.

Quality of service

Several years ago, I had to quite often read comments on various forums, which talked about the dubious benefits of routine maintenance of Russian-made cars. Experienced motorists said that it is easier to perform the required work themselves or entrust it to specialists at unauthorized service stations. These recommendations made some sense - the quality of service at branded dealerships left much to be desired. However, relatively recently, VAZ’s policy regarding warranty service was completely updated - now work is carried out exclusively by qualified craftsmen, and spare parts and consumables undergo careful control. Therefore, you can safely entrust the servicing of your car to the specialists of the dealership center - especially since each maintenance includes a comprehensive diagnosis of the vehicle.
