Rating of the best spark plugs for Lada Grant, Priora and Kalina 2021

I decided to change the spark plugs on the car. The choice fell on NGK V - line

.

I don’t know why, but when someone talks about candles, this is the name that comes to mind in my head) That’s why when I decided to change it, I immediately started asking about them. These candles are installed by many, proven ones. So I decided to install them for myself. Before this, the candles were installed BRISK

Quite good spark plugs. The car drove well. I don’t know how long it lasted. But the mileage is a bit much.
20 thousand
I think for sure) In the mornings it started to run rough. Especially at idle. Sometimes when you let off the gas it either started to work poorly or just stalled. I wasn’t very happy with it. It wasn’t very pleasant. As soon as I changed the spark plugs the car seemed to come to life) I’ve been driving for 2 days, but I don’t think about this problem anymore. I think the overclocking has become even better. It starts at the drop of a hat. They don’t give a damn when it’s warm or when it’s hot! It idles perfectly and the dip has disappeared. I still couldn’t get rid of it, but it turns out it’s the spark plugs) Below I copied the text from the topic about these candles. Read it, it might be useful. NGK NGK spark plugs can be easily distinguished from counterfeits by the direction of the electrode. In branded spark plugs from this manufacturer, the electrode is strictly perpendicular to the contact and has an even rod-like appearance; counterfeit spark plugs are distinguished by the uneven thickness of the electrode rod, as well as the curvature of its direction relative to the contact.

Differences between a fake candle and a real one: - Price. Too low a price should be alarming. — Printing quality. Real NGK has impeccable quality of inscriptions and drawings on the packaging (above). The fake one (below) has noticeable errors (the contours of the patterns of different colors are shifted relative to each other). As a result of improper assembly of the sides of the box, inscriptions and drawings may not be centered on the edges. — Central electrode. Take a closer look at it. If it does not have a clear cylindrical shape, is installed crookedly, or has minor defects, it is a fake. — Side electrode. Look at the candle from the side. A real spark plug's electrode is straight, but a fake spark plug's electrode is often crooked or has an oblique edge. — Party code. A real candle has a code on one of the faces of the hexagon indicating the party. The fake one does not have such a mark. - Carving. On a real candle, the thread is knurled, so it has an ideal surface. The fake candle has small chips visible on the edges of the thread. - Sealing ring. It is impossible to remove it on a real candle, but on a fake one you can twist it or even just remove it. — Isolator. For a real candle, the insulator is smooth (as if covered with glaze), but for a fake one it may be rough. A fake spark plug also often shows longitudinal protrusions remaining on the insulator after it is molded due to inaccurate joining of the mold halves. — The inscription on the insulator. For a real candle, it is smooth and neat. I bought it, came home and looked at it, it doesn’t look like a fake (probably a very high quality fake). Let's see how they turn out in practice)))

NGK spark plugs are currently one of the most common. They have mostly good reviews about their work on VAZ engines in recent years. There are standard NGK spark plugs, plugs with a V-shaped center electrode, plugs with a thin, high-strength iridium center electrode, plugs with a platinum center electrode, and plugs with multiple ground electrodes. Some types of NGK spark plugs are suitable for carburetor and injection engines of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 cars.

TOP 10 best spark plugs for VAZ (Lada)

The most common type is gasoline cars, which require full maintenance.
Usually a simple part like spark plugs doesn't raise many questions. However, the unit requires more attention than most motorists think. The stability of the engine and the service life of the ignition system depend on the correct choice. In 2021, there are a large number of models and companies on the market that, in their opinion, produce the best spark plugs for VAZ and other car models. But it is not always the case.

The device of spark plugs VAZ 2114

Products come in several types: classic (two-electrode) and multi-electrode. In addition, they are classified according to such criteria as: material of manufacture, size, heat rating (cold or hot). In addition, for a particular device there are standards regarding the size of the gap between the electrodes. In relation to the VAZ 2114, a classic design is used. Main components:

  • side and central electrodes (responsible for generating a spark);
  • frame;
  • resistor;
  • insulator;
  • contact (to which the high-voltage wire is connected).

Keep in mind that spark plugs for the VAZ 2114 (injector) may not be suitable for cars of other brands and vice versa.

Which spark plugs for VAZ are better to choose?

There are a large number of different modifications of the part, which complicates life for motorists. The problem is that each motor is designed for a specific type of spark plug. If you supply the wrong part, a number of negative consequences can arise.

  1. Misfire of the mixture due to the gap between the electrodes of the element being too wide.
  2. Interruptions in the operation of the internal combustion engine caused by too low spark power.
  3. Instant failure of the device due to too much electrode protrusion.

Also, depending on the inconsistencies present, other malfunctions may “pop up” that reduce the comfort of using the car.

What to look for when choosing.

Specialists from the AvtoVAZ plant recommend selecting spark plugs according to a number of parameters.

  1. Heat number. The parameter characterizes the rate of heat removal from the working part of the candle. At the same time, the electrode transfers excess heat to the spark plug skirt in a timely manner, which ensures stable operation of the part. If energy is removed too quickly, scale forms on the working part of the part, which prevents normal spark breakdown. If the withdrawal is too slow, the thin electrode overheats. The process provokes the formation of glow ignition. This prevents the engine from operating normally due to detonation of the mixture or its early ignition. Under normal thermal conditions, a spark adequately breaks through the spark plugs and does not form excessive carbon deposits.
  2. Spark gap. Some users know that for the engine to operate correctly, the spark gap on the spark plugs must be maintained. The working gap on VAZ spark plugs is strictly set by the manufacturer of the power plant and is necessary due to the fact that the formed electric arc has a certain strength. As the distance increases, the spark loses stability, which can lead to misfires. In the opposite case, easier starting of the engine is ensured, but when the gas is released, the electric arc current may not be enough. This is justified by the fact that each ignition coil has a certain transformation ratio, usually equal to 2000 units. This means that during the start-up of the internal combustion engine, the elements produce up to 14 kW, and during normal operation it is already 24. Consequently, failure to comply with this parameter can lead to serious disruptions in the operation of the motor.
  3. Departure of the working part of the electrodes. The parameter is critical for adequate operation of the power plant. The spark plugs on the VAZ 8-valve injector, as well as for carburetor models, have electrodes strongly pushed forward. This is due to the fact that the structural parts are located in the corner of the combustion chamber, where there is no adequate ventilation. The overhang of the working part allows for better ignition of the mixture and stabilizes engine operation. If the spark plugs are mounted in a multi-valve engine, where the inserts are located in the center of the valve head, it is recommended to install spark plugs with a deep-set core - this will prevent damage to the electrodes by the piston bottom and an abundance of carbon deposits on the structural elements.
  4. Number of electrodes. Initially, manufacturers position this parameter as a definite plus. When one electrode “burns out,” the spark plug switches to another, which significantly increases its service life. However, not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. If the mixture is sprayed unevenly in the cylinder (poor ventilation of the combustion chamber), and at this moment the spark jumps to the shadowed part (the place where the exhaust remains), misfire may occur, which will lead to unstable operation of the power plant. Additionally, this fact increases the wear of the catalyst and engine oil, which is critical for VAZ cars.
  5. Manufacturer. The manufacturer of the product is also an important parameter. Users recommend buying from trusted brands that have been on the market for a long time. The cost of such candles will be significant, but with proper selection and operation they will work for a long time and without significant complaints.

By adhering to the specified parameters, a car enthusiast can buy a fairly high-quality product, while saving on the frequency of car servicing and repairs.

When do you need to change spark plugs?

The replacement interval of 30 thousand km is very arbitrary. The AvtoVAZ company equips Priora engines with domestically produced single-electrode spark plugs marked A17DVRM for a 16-valve unit and AU17DVRM for an 8-valve unit. Practice shows that even on a new car, these spark plugs often fail long before the end of the service interval, causing unstable engine operation and increased fuel consumption. For this reason, many car enthusiasts prefer imported products.

Fault diagnosis

The best way to determine performance is to test the spark plug under pressure. The essence of this diagnostic method is to check sparking on the electrodes under conditions close to operating conditions. To do this, a candle is screwed into a special chamber equipped with an inspection window, and a discharge is passed through it, while air is pumped into the chamber with a compressor or manually.

At a certain moment, the discharge on the electrodes will begin to fade, and then completely disappear. Record the pressure gauge readings at this moment and compare them with the pressure in the cylinder, which was previously measured with a compression gauge. Plus 2 atm should be added to the compression meter readings. since the starter speed is much less than the engine operating speed. If the pressure in the cylinder is higher than the spark attenuation pressure at the electrode, the spark plug should be changed, because in operating mode it does not ensure complete combustion of fuel, and its excess begins to enter the engine oil sump.

Recommended: Wheel Bearing, Kit

The consequences of driving a Lada Priora for a long time with faulty spark plugs can be disastrous, because, in addition to loss of power, some of the unburned fuel dilutes the engine oil, which harms engine parts. Then, in the form of vapors through the crankcase ventilation system, it again enters the cylinders, supersaturates the combustible mixture, which again does not completely burn on faulty spark plugs and ends up in the oil.

Therefore, if unstable operation, jerking, or failure occurs, you should immediately unscrew and inspect the spark plugs. Thick black deposits on the electrodes plus black exhaust from the pipe when the engine is running indicate an over-enrichment of the combustible mixture or an unsatisfactory condition of the spark plug itself.

If the coating on the electrodes is white and fluffy, and bluish smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe, then this is a problem with engine oil getting into the cylinders, so the oil caps or piston rings should be changed. All these additional loads on the spark plugs have a negative impact on them, and in any case they need to be checked for functionality and, if necessary, replaced ahead of schedule.

LADA spark plugs: top 10 options

The rating contains 10 modifications of spark plugs, without division into specific car models.

10th place: ZZ A17 DVRM

The list of the best offers opens with an effective model that is in demand among a large number of buyers. Such prevalence is ensured by the stable quality of products. In the original packaging it is impossible to find a defective part or a spark plug with a broken gap. A significant advantage of the products is the ability to work actively even when the voltage drops to 6V in the on-board network. Similar spark plugs in the VAZ 2107 are often found due to their moderate cost.

The indicators are overshadowed by bad statistics - as of 2020, 35% of the kits on the market are fakes, which forces motorists to carefully select products in stores.

  • reasonable price;
  • durable;
  • simple design.

9th place: TZ 17 DVRM

The next representative of the rating implies the presence of as many as three electrodes on the working part of the device. A large number of motorists install such spark plugs on a VAZ carburetor or even an injection type. Thanks to the use of advanced developments in design, the manufacturer has increased the service life of the electrode.

Pirate copies also play a role here - there are a large number of them, which makes buyers cautious about purchasing products.

  • good performance;
  • long period of operation;
  • wide use.

How to choose spark plugs correctly for VAZ cars?

Since spark plugs (SPS) are consumables, every car owner is forced to change them from time to time. The normal performance of the SZ contributes to the optimal operation of the power unit, which is especially important for domestic cars. From this material you will learn how to select a spark plug for a VAZ car and what to consider when purchasing.

Selection options

To select good SZ, you must be guided by the following criteria:

  1. The first parameter to consider when purchasing is the heat rating. It should be noted that this parameter is conditional and not universal, so it must be selected in accordance with the model of a particular motor. This number shows the pressure level in the internal combustion engine cylinder at which glow ignition occurs. The use of SZ with a higher heat number is allowed, but is not prohibited if it is lower.
  2. Another parameter is the possibility of self-cleaning. Unfortunately, this parameter can only be accurately verified in practice, since all SZ manufacturers promise consumers a high level of self-cleaning. If this indicator is really high, then carbon deposits will not form on the SZ, which is especially important for their optimal operation.
  3. When buying spark plugs from a VAZ, you also need to take into account their gap. Each manufacturer sets the appropriate gap for individual product lines. If we are talking about domestically produced cars, then in this case this gap on the VAZ spark plugs should be 0.5-0.7 mm.
  4. Traditional SZ are equipped with two electrodes - one central and one side, but not so long ago global manufacturers began producing devices with 3 and 4 electrodes. These electrodes cannot produce multiple sparks - their purpose is to provide more consistent sparking. Accordingly, the use of such SZ contributes to more stable operation of the power unit due to improved ignition procedures.
  5. Before purchasing SZ, carefully inspect them for mechanical damage. If you see that there are cracks on the device’s body, then it is better to refuse to purchase such SZ. Also, before installation, check that the gap is the correct size.
  6. To diagnose purchased SZ, you can install them in a pressure chamber, of course, if you have such an opportunity, then adjust the pressure in it to about 10 kg/cm2, and the current should be connected with a value of 22 kV. As a result, a spark should begin to form. If the spark appears intermittently, this indicates that the SZ is not working, but if the sparking is continuous, then the devices can be purchased (the author of the video is Nail Poroshin).

TOP best manufacturers of spark plugs for VAZ

So which SZ for VAZ is better to choose?

Below is a list of the most popular device manufacturers:

  1. ZAZS. VAZ vehicles are equipped with such SZ during production. The manufacturer recommends using ZAZS, citing the fact that these spark plugs are most optimal for domestic engines. However, many car enthusiasts do not trust this manufacturer and install SZ from other brands on their cars.
  2. Beru. In particular, we are talking about the 14FR-7DU model. The main feature of such SZ is the use of a copper central electrode in the design, which has a nickel shell. Thanks to this, the SZ of this model is more resistant to corrosion and wear. The skirt is made in a conical shape, thanks to which the device quickly switches to self-cleaning mode. In addition, the spark power in these fire protection systems is quite high; accordingly, the combustible mixture will burn most efficiently.
  3. Champion, namely the RC9YC model. If you believe the manufacturer, then such SZ have lower performance in terms of gasoline consumption. In addition, they are more stable, and their power when operating at higher engine speeds is higher.
  4. NGK is one of the brands that supplies the highest quality products to the domestic market. The nickel model BCPR6ES-11 is currently considered one of the most affordable options. A power unit with such devices will operate more steadily. And when the driver presses the gas pedal, the engine can operate 4% more powerful than with traditional SZ. Separately, we should highlight the iridium spark plugs on the VAZ. If you decide to purchase iridium spark plugs at VAZ, you will be faced with a large assortment of models. They differ from each other both in cost and in characteristics. It should be noted that iridium spark plugs on VAZ have a longer service life. Depending on the model, iridium spark plugs on a VAZ can last up to 100 thousand kilometers or even more. Of course, such advantages also affect the cost of SZ as a whole. Iridium spark plugs on VAZ have an iridium electrode, which makes the spark even more powerful.
  5. Denso Q20TT. Such devices have a thinner electrode, for the manufacture of which precious metals are not used. Accordingly, this has a positive effect on the price of SZ. As practice shows, when using such devices, the engine power will be higher, its dynamics will increase, and fuel consumption can be reduced. Of course, we are talking about a normally running engine.
  6. Czech-made devices Brisk DR15YC are equipped with a copper core, as well as a longer electrode insulator, thanks to which the SZ can more quickly switch to self-cleaning mode. Accordingly, the use of these models is more relevant for vehicles that are used in urban environments. As for the replacement interval, in this case it largely depends on the quality of the fuel.
  7. Bosch FR7DCU. Such SZ are equipped with a copper core mounted to a chromium-nickel shell. Accordingly, this enables the electrode to be more resistant to erosion or corrosion. Thanks to the use of nickel plating, the likelihood of thread sticking is minimized.
  8. Finwhale F516. The body of this model is characterized by galvanic coating and is made of ductile steel. In addition, this model has good electrical insulation, as a result of which heat conductivity will be higher, which is ensured by the high content of aluminum oxide on the insulator.

Types of spark plugs: iridium and regular

The first iridium spark plugs for cars were produced by Denso. Today they claim that such parts, unlike conventional ones, have a longer service life. We installed such parts on the Priora, but did not notice the difference - perhaps this is just a marketing ploy. We don’t think that the Priora is anything special and there will be a noticeable difference on other cars. But still in terms of technology: durability is due to the gas-tight insulation of the central electrode, aluminum oxide insulators, reduced loss of electric current, a high degree of insulation, and a large volume of the ignition zone.

We recommend: Do-it-yourself repair and maintenance of Hyundai Solaris

Denso even produces special models for AvtoVAZ. The electrodes are coated with a lubricant mixture, which increases their gas impermeability, while the temperature in the ignition unit remains optimal - premature or late ignition is excluded. The side electrode is designed in such a way that it allows ignition to be optimized; in this case, even a lean mixture will be ignited.

You can install iridium spark plugs on the Lada Priora, the advantage of which is clear - they need to be changed much less often. But the service life of these elements will be significantly lower than that declared by the manufacturer. The fault lies not in the malfunction of the car - the quality of gasoline leaves much to be desired.

As mentioned earlier, iridium spark plugs can even light a lean mixture. When they work with a contaminated mixture (and the risk of running into unscrupulous filling remains high), they suffer even more. This is comparable to the work of the lungs of a person who lives in a non-ecological area: not only does fumes settle everywhere, the wear and tear of the “organs” accelerates.

Valve replacement of ignition elements for Lada Priora 16 valves is real. Manufacturers producing analogues for this VAZ car produce similar copies from iridium. But don’t rush to rejoice: even if you are promised that the spark plugs will last about one hundred thousand kilometers, on Russian roads this is unlikely to be true.

However, take care to ensure that the cylinder head gasket is always completely sealed against leaking oil. If oil gets on your iridium spark plugs, your expensive purchase will be rendered useless.

Setting the correct spark plug gap in a VAZ 2109

One of the most common problems with the appearance of black carbon deposits on the spark plugs of VAZ 2109 and VAZ 21099 cars is the incorrect gap between the SZ electrodes.

Today, many spark plug manufacturers claim that there is no need to adjust the gaps, but in fact, every car owner should know how to fix this problem and check and adjust the spark plugs themselves.

Checking and installing spark plug gaps in VAZ 2109 – 21099

Almost all spark plugs produced today have a factory-set gap between the electrodes. It is different for each manufacturer. It is also different for spark plugs for carburetor engines with contact and non-contact ignition systems, and for spark plugs for injection engines.

For example, the gaps between the electrodes of spark plugs for VAZ 2109 carburetor engines vary between 0.5-0.7 mm for a contact ignition system, 0.7-0.9 mm for a non-contact ignition system.

Moreover, it is recommended to make the gap smaller by 1 mm in winter, and larger by 1 mm in summer. In this way, improved engine starting and stability of its operation at different atmospheric temperatures are achieved.

It is believed that prolonged cranking of the engine with the starter at low ambient temperatures can discharge even a new battery so much that its voltage is not enough to form a spark if the gap between the electrodes is too large or normal. At the same time, increasing the gap creates additional load on the ignition coil.

For VAZ 2109 injection engines, the gap is in the range of 0.9-1.1 mm. There are no recommendations for changing the gap size for different seasons.

Rating of the TOP 5 best spark plugs for VAZ cars

Copper-nickel spark plugs for VAZ cars of the “Standard” category are used on carburetor engines with a contact ignition system; their reliable service life does not exceed 10,000 kilometers.

Attention! These are products with a good reputation, so they are massively counterfeited. The rules for identifying the original can be found on the manufacturers’ websites.

Notes and additions

— For spark plugs for carburetor engines with a contact ignition system for VAZ 2101, 2102, 2103, 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107 cars, the recommended gap between the electrodes of the spark plugs is 0.5-0.7 mm, for VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099, 2105, 2107 with a contactless ignition system 0.7-0.9 mm.

For injection engines of VAZ 2107, 2108, 2109, 21099 cars 1.0-1.1 mm.

An incorrectly set gap between the electrodes of the spark plugs leads to problems with starting the engine, unstable engine idle speed, jerking when starting and driving, “dips,” loss of power and throttle response, and an increase in the engine’s fuel appetite. Normal engine operation can only be ensured by a spark plug with a gap specific for a given engine type.

Regularly check the reliability of the connections of the high-voltage wires with the spark plugs, coil and ignition distributor.

With a smaller gap, the spark will be short and weak, combustion of the fuel mixture worsens, with a large gap, the voltage required to break through the air gap between the electrodes of the spark plug increases. In this case, there may be no spark at all.

There is no need to set the gap on multi-electrode spark plugs.

Which parts to choose?

When choosing spark plugs for a VAZ 2106 car, you must be guided by the numerical value indicated on the marking. It denotes the heat value of the element, which characterizes the candle’s ability to remove heat and self-clean from carbon deposits during operation. According to the Russian classification, elements are divided into the following groups:

  1. Heat number from 11 to 16 are “hot” candles. They are designed for engines with low compression ratios and low power.
  2. The same, from 17 to 19. The most widely used spark plugs, including on VAZ 2101-07 cars.
  3. The same, from 20 to 26 - “cold” spark plugs, installed on powerful engines with a high compression ratio and temperature in the combustion chamber.

If you install too “hot” or “cold” spark plugs on a VAZ 2106 car, the engine will not be able to function in normal mode with maximum efficiency. The letter indices on the marking indicate less important parameters, but they also need to be taken into account. For example, a product with the designation A17DV is suitable for engines with a carburetor and an ignition system with mechanical contacts, and A17DVRM is suitable for power units with an injector.

The trouble is that the classification of imported candles differs from Russian ones, and there is no single measurement system; each manufacturer has its own. Therefore, before you buy reliable products from the Japanese company NGK or another brand for the VAZ 2106, it is recommended to study the table.

Checking and replacing spark plugs VAZ-2109

You will need: a spark plug wrench, a round dipstick.

Replacement frequency: After 30,000 km.

Before starting work:

Disconnect the wire from the “─” terminal of the battery.

Spark plug type: A17DVR, A17DVRM, FE65PR, FE65CPR. Until 1988, spark plugs of types A17DV and FE65P were installed on the VAZ-2109.

We recommend replacing spark plugs every 30,000 km, even if they are still in working order: old spark plugs can increase fuel consumption.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing spark plugs in a VAZ 2109 with your own hands.

  1. When removing the tip from the spark plug, do not pull on the wire. If you need to remove all the lugs, first mark the high-voltage wires.
  2. Clean the spark plug niches from dirt.
  3. Unscrew the spark plug with a special wrench. Carefully unscrew the spark plug with a special wrench. If the spark plug is hard to unscrew due to carbon deposits, drop WD-40 or Unisma into the threaded hole to avoid damaging the thread.
  4. Examine the candle. If there are cracks on the insulator, the threads or electrodes are damaged, the spark plug must be replaced.
  5. Light brown carbon deposits, which evenly cover the lower part of the spark plug with a thin layer, do not affect the operation of the ignition system and do not need to be cleaned.
  6. Lack of carbon deposits on the spark plug 6. The absence of carbon deposits on the spark plug indicates either that the engine is running on a lean mixture, or that the ignition timing is incorrectly set, or that the spark plug brand does not match the engine type.
  7. Shiny black deposits Shiny black deposits, indicating that oil has entered the engine cylinder, must be cleaned off.
  8. Check the gap between spark plug electrodes 8. Check the gap between spark plug electrodes (round feeler gauge only). The gap should be 0.7-0.8 mm. Check the gap only with a round feeler gauge.
  9. Adjust the spark plug gap If the gap differs from the specified one, adjust it by bending the side electrode.

During operation, there are cases of damage to the thread of the spark plug hole in the cylinder head. In this case, you need to remove the cylinder head and make a fitting or insert in a turning workshop. If this happened on the road, then you can use “Cold Welding” as a temporary measure.

Spark plugs for carburetor engines

Yesterday morning the car did not start, although it was not very cold, 15 degrees below zero. I had regular spark plugs, A17DV-10 made in Engels, they are relatively new, I changed them when I was rebuilding the engine.

Having unscrewed the spark plugs, I saw that they were simply flooded, they were wet in gasoline. Fortunately, I didn’t throw out the old spark plugs (they were BRISK) and installed them, they were dry and the car somehow started, but it started. When I got to work, I immediately started looking for new spark plugs. The choice fell on Japanese DENSO spark plugs; the following spark plugs are available for the VAZ 21083 engine with a carburetor:

W20EPR-U

standard - nickel, gap 0.8 mm, with a 5 kOhm resistor;
But I took W20EP-U
- nickel, 0.8 mm gap, without a resistor (without the letter R in the article) to “make life easier” for the distributor;

W20TT

TT technology - nickel, gap 0.8 mm, central electrode with a diameter of 1.5 mm, side electrode with a diameter of 1.5 mm (I did not find information about the resistor in the catalog, but it is noted on the packaging that the resistor is present, but with what resistance it is not clear) ;

IW20TT

top ones - iridium/platinum, gap 1 mm, iridium central electrode with a diameter of 0.4 mm with a platinum needle 0.7 mm on the side electrode (no word about the resistor either).

I took two sets of spark plugs so that I could quickly change them if it flooded again. The first set is “standard” W20EP-U for 60 rubles/piece, the second set is “cold” with TT technology W16TT for 120 rubles/piece. I was greedy with iridium spark plugs, since I’m not a racer and I don’t need a long service life - anyway, they’ll be contaminated faster by oil and soot.

Why did I decide to use low-heat (“cold”) spark plugs - since my leisurely driving in short periods of 15-30 minutes in the city with standing in traffic jams - the engine doesn’t really have time to warm up, and in traffic jams at idle speed the spark plugs don’t “ self-clean" and quickly "die".

What is a heat number is written simply and clearly below:
“The numbers indicated in the article mean the heat number. This value indicates in what thermal range the spark plug should operate. Thermal range is the ability to transfer heat from the plug to the cylinder head to maintain optimal temperature. In contact with combustion products during operation, the spark plug heats up. The optimal temperature range is from 400 to 900 degrees. Failure to comply with the thermal range due to incorrect selection of spark plugs can lead to the following consequences: the spark plug operates at temperatures below 400 degrees - accumulation of carbon deposits and engine shutdown; the spark plug operates at temperatures above 900 degrees at high speeds – glow ignition and engine damage. Depending on the manufacturer, the heat value may differ. At DENSO, the range of designations varies from 9 to 31. Let's decipher the so-called cold and hot candles: “hot” - the candle removes less heat. The lower the heat value, the “hotter” the candle; “cold” - the candle is able to remove more heat. The higher the heat value, the “colder” the candle.

Plugs with a heat rating of 9–14 are used in industrial engines.
