Technology for changing the oil in the VAZ 2109 engine
Place your car on a flat, horizontal area. It is advisable to place the car above the inspection pit or on a special overpass.
When changing the oil, it is recommended to intermediately flush the engine with a special flushing oil liquid or oil of the brand that you plan to fill in your engine. To carry out flushing, after draining the used oil, use a funnel to fill in fresh oil so that its level reaches the bottom line on the dipstick. Let the engine run without load for about ten minutes, then proceed to add fresh oil.
To comply with environmental regulations, do not allow used oil to come into contact with the soil.
Place a wide-mouth container under the crankcase of your engine, disconnect the drain plug and drain the used oil, then close the drain hole.
Remove the old oil filter using a special wrench. Lubricate the seal ring with the same engine oil.
Using a funnel, pour new oil into the engine. Check its level using the oil dipstick.
Remove the oil dipstick, clean it of any oil and place it back in the inspection hole. Pull out the dipstick. The normal oil level mark should be between the maximum and minimum marks.
After this, start your engine again and drive it for several minutes without load at idle speed. After turning off the engine, check the oil level again using the dipstick and add it if necessary.

Oil change methods
The exact oil volume is determined by the specific engine modification. Such data is provided by the technical documentation accompanying the vehicle. In any case, it is recommended to purchase lubricant in quantities of 4–5 liters. Then, as the car is used, you can add identical oil.

Oil selection
How to choose the right oil? Such liquids are divided into three main types:
- Mineral oil;
- Synthetics;
- Semi-synthetic.
Mineral motor oil is not suitable for VAZ 2109. Such a lubricant does not meet the requirements if the car is operated in difficult conditions.
Semi-synthetics are used for VAZ 2109 . The basis of the liquid is mineral oil with the addition of synthetic components. This allows it to reliably cope with the protection of the internal surfaces of the motor and reliably protect it from excessive wear.
Synthetics are created with high performance in mind. It protects the power unit from wear, efficiently lubricating the internal mechanisms even during a cold start. Synthetic components reduce friction on internal parts and keep them clean.
But there is another type of motor oil - all-season. This is an ideal option for the VAZ 2109. Suitable for the Russian climate. In the winter season, the liquid does not thicken, and in the heat it does not dilute much. The main viscosity parameters for the engine of this vehicle are: 5W-40, 10W-40, 15W-40.
Instructions
We warm up the engine to 45-50 degrees. Warm oil has better fluidity and will drain better from the engine during a complete replacement. Our task is to remove as much as possible the old dirty and used fluid that no longer has useful properties from the engine and fill it with new one. If a lot of old dirty oil remains in the crankcase, it will be swept away with the new one and will worsen its beneficial properties. Warm up the engine for 5-7 minutes before starting, this will be sufficient. For easy access to the drain plug (and in some models the oil filter is also attached from the bottom) and the bottom of the car as a whole, you need to jack it up or drive into an inspection hole (the best option). Also, some models may have engine crankcase “protection” installed. We open air access to the crankcase by unscrewing the filler cap and dipstick. Place a large container (equal to the amount of oil being poured). Unscrew the drain plug with a wrench. Sometimes the drain plug is made like a regular “bolt” under an open-end wrench, and sometimes it can be unscrewed using a four- or hexagon
Don't forget to wear protective gloves, the oil will most likely wake you up warm, but you need to be careful. We wait about 10-15 minutes until the waste flows into a basin or cut-off plastic canister
The most common waste oil drain. Prepare a container for draining in advance, preferably with a wide neck. Ideally, some kind of basin. Optional but very effective! Flushing the engine with a special liquid is not included in the maintenance regulations and is not mandatory - but. By getting a little confused, you will be much better at flushing out the old, black oil from the engine. In this case, wash with the old oil filter for 5-10 minutes. You will be surprised at the black oil that comes out with this liquid. This liquid is very easy to use. A detailed description should appear on the flushing fluid label. Changing the sedum filter. In some models, it is not the filter itself and the filter element (usually yellow) that are changed. It is very important not to forget, before installing a new filter, to saturate it with oil and lubricate the rubber sealing ring located on top. Lack of oil in the new filter before starting the engine can cause oil starvation, which in turn can cause filter deformation. In general, this is not a good thing. Also remember to lubricate the rubber O-ring before installation.
Fill in new oil. After draining the old waste and replacing the cleaning filter, we can fill in new oil, guided by the control dipstick. In the future, when the engine is running, the oil level will probably change; be careful during the first few days of operation. Recheck the oil level using the dipstick after the first start.
Changing the lubricant in the gearbox
Every 50-75 thousand km the oil in the VAZ gearbox needs to be changed. It can be done earlier, for example, when the transmission begins to hum and there is no way to repair it. If you add thicker oil, the hum will disappear for a while. As for how much oil needs to be filled, its volume for a standard gearbox is 3 liters. If the box is five-speed, then approximately 3.3 liters are needed. According to the instructions, the oil viscosity should be 80W-85.
There are two types of VAZ-21099 gearboxes. The first is old boxes without a probe. To change the oil in them you will need a special syringe. The second type includes modern models with a probe. With them, the whole procedure is no more complicated than replacing antifreeze.

So, before work, it is necessary to clean the metal near the breather and filler neck as much as possible from dirt. Next, the rubber plug on the breather is removed, and the hole itself is cleaned with a clean wire or awl. After this, a container is placed, the drain bolt is unscrewed and the oil begins to flow out. Before the procedure, the probe must be pulled out and wiped. It is better to carry out the operation after a short trip, preferably in a warm box, so that the oil becomes as liquid as possible. After all the glass is filled, the plug is screwed in and new oil is poured in. In old boxes, the level is checked at the lower edge of the oil filler hole, in new ones - using a dipstick.
Of course, the operation takes more time than replacing antifreeze, but there is no need to check a large number of hoses and pipes. If after changing the oil the noise in the gearbox does not go away, then you will have to completely rebuild the gearbox. It is recommended to check the oil level again after a test drive.
Changing the oil of VAZ 21099
VAZ 21099 (Sputnik) - popularly known as “Ninety Nine”. A sedan model of Soviet and later Russian and Ukrainian production. The Ninety-Ninth was produced at AvtoVAZ(a) facilities until 2004. In Ukraine, it came off the assembly line at ZAZ. For export, the VAZ 21099 had the names Lada Sagona, Lada Samara Saloon, Lada Forma and Lada Diva.
Like many other domestic cars, this model has several modifications. VAZ 210993 had an engine capacity of 1.3 liters and VAZ 210990 had a 1.5 liter engine. In 1997, the AvtoVAZ plant began producing the VAZ 2115, it was a restyled (redesigned) model of the VAZ 21099. As a result, the Ninety-ninth ceased to be sold in 2011, and in its place they began to produce the restyled VAZ 2115 model.
