Almost a year after the release of the SW Cross model, in April 2021, AvtoVAZ’s first 5-seater all-terrain vehicle, the Lada Vesta Cross, rolled off the production line at the Izhevsk plant. The prototype of this model was presented back in August 2021 during the annual auto exhibition in Moscow. The 2021 Lada Vesta Cross is a representative of the first generation, which has not yet undergone any changes in both appearance and technical characteristics. Unlike the classic Vesta, the crossover version received a classic crossover body kit and 17-inch tires, which, combined with high ground clearance, gives the car a sporty look. The new model has a high level of safety. According to ARCAP, based on crash tests, the car ranks second in the compact car class, losing first place to the 2nd generation Hyundai Solaris. The minimum cost of the model in the basic configuration is 801,900 rubles, while potential buyers will have to pay at least 999,900 rubles for the top-end modification.

Options and prices
Russian car enthusiasts will have access to two main configurations of the 2021 Lada Vesta Cross: “Luxe” and “Comfort”. The release of versions that did not receive a new body, but were equipped with an additional package of options, was also organized. The technical characteristics of this model, as well as photos and prices can be found in this review.
About the Vesta Cross sedan
The prototype of the Lada Vesta Cross sedan was shown back in 2021, and in April 2021 it was launched into production. The car has a high degree of unification with the SW Cross station wagon, which has already been on sale since the end of last year. In particular, the models are similar not only in characteristics, but even the plastic body kits are identical.
The photo shows the serial Lada Vesta Cross sedan.
The management of AVTOVAZ notes that the new product will not have direct competitors in the Russian market. The only representative of this class, the Volvo S60 in the Cross Country version, belongs to the premium segment and is valued at almost 2.5 million rubles even in the basic configuration.
{loadposition yandex_rtb}
As you can see in the photo, the Vesta Cross sedan is distinguished by an increased ground clearance, reaching 203 mm, as well as 17-inch diamond-cut wheels that have an attractive appearance. The changes in the interior were also identical to the off-road station wagon; in particular, the seats are distinguished by combined upholstery using eco-leather, and the decorative inserts can have a choice of orange or a calmer gray color.
In addition, the model received an armrest between the front seats, a changed color scheme of the instrument panel and a different design of the dials.
How much will it cost and when will it be released?
AVTOVAZ has not yet announced the prices of the Lada Vesta Cross sedan, but there is every reason to assume that the difference will be identical to the difference between the Vesta and Vesta SW versions. As a result, we can assume that the minimum price tag for a crossover sedan will be 740 thousand rubles, while an off-road station wagon today is priced on the market from 771 thousand rubles.
There is no data on the composition of the configurations available for the model. AVTOVAZ management promises to disclose all data on the model within the next two months. The release date of the Vesta Cross sedan is scheduled for summer 2021.

Specifications
The 2021 Lada Vesta Cross is equipped with two types of in-line, 4-cylinder units that meet the requirements of the Euro-5 standard:
- A 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine with electronic fuel control produces 106 hp, which can accelerate the car to 178 km/h. Acceleration time to hundreds is 11.9 seconds. Average fuel consumption in city/highway driving mode is 7.1 liters.
- The power unit, with an output of 113 “horses” and a volume of 1.6 liters, consumes 7.1 liters of gasoline for every 100 kilometers. This engine is capable of accelerating the car to hundreds in 11.3 seconds and providing a speed of 175 km/h.
- A 122-horsepower 1.8-liter engine that can accelerate the car to 180 km/h. The acceleration time of the car to 100 km/h does not exceed 12.7 seconds. When driving in a mixed cycle, gasoline consumption is 7.5 liters for every 100 km.
Together with the listed engines, a 5-speed “mechanics” or a continuously variable transmission is used. In both available trim levels, the cross-sedan will receive front-wheel drive and independent suspension at the front, as well as a semi-independent rear torsion bar.

Handling and off-road performance
Introducing the new model, the manufacturer positioned the 2021 Lada Vesta Cross as a car in the class of compact off-road vehicles. Improved off-road performance is influenced by increased ground clearance, thanks to which the car can quite easily overcome various obstacles both in a metropolis and when driving off-road. Owners of cars with a CVT should not forget that this type of transmission does not tolerate extreme loads quite well and is prone to overheating. Therefore, for fans of off-road drifting, the best option would be a model with a manual transmission.
On high-quality asphalt surfaces, the car behaves confidently, easily negotiating both flat areas and turns. When driving on poor-quality roads, rear passengers may feel discomfort from the resulting bumpiness. In general, if the suspension is maintained in good technical condition, this model can provide driving pleasure and demonstrate high driving performance.
Sedan Lada Vesta Cross
At the Moscow Motor Show in August 2021, the concept of the Lada Vesta Cross all-terrain sedan was presented. By analogy with the station wagon, the sedan received increased ground clearance and plastic linings on the body, which should emphasize its off-road capabilities. If production of the station wagon has already started, then the prospects for the Cross sedan are still vague: AvtoVAZ says that they will study the public reaction, and if it is positive, they will consider the possibility of serial production.
If the auto giant decides to launch production, sales of the crossover sedan will start no earlier than 2021. Updated! In the fall of 2021, the auto giant confirmed work on a cross-sedan, saying that it will appear very soon.
According to the technical characteristics , the Vesta Cross sedan will be a complete copy of the station wagon (in Togliatti they say that thanks to this, putting the sedan into production will not be difficult since most of the components are unified). Moreover, there will be no all-wheel drive .
It’s too early to talk about the cost, we can assume that the price of a sedan will be on the same level as a station wagon, and 100-150 thousand rubles more expensive than a regular sedan (presumably from 750 thousand rubles ).

Maintenance costs
The manufacturer provides an official warranty for all cars for a period of three years or 100 thousand kilometers. This service helps motorists avoid unexpected expenses in the event of failure of a particular component or unit. To maintain the warranty received, the car owner is obliged to provide the vehicle for maintenance every 15 thousand kilometers. The cost of this service, depending on the region, averages from 5.9 to 6.7 thousand rubles. In addition, it would not be superfluous to undergo a “zero” maintenance with replacement of filters and diagnostics of the chassis when the mileage is from 2.5 to 3 thousand kilometers. The cost of work ranges from 2 to 3 thousand rubles.
Dynamic qualities and fuel consumption
Those power units that are installed under the hood of the new Lada Vesta Cross are ideal for urban conditions, since their dynamics are quite enough for maneuvering in traffic jams and heavy traffic. In addition, the acceleration to 100 km/h of the domestic cross-car is higher than that of most competitors. At the same time, the presence of a 1.8-liter engine allows us to say that even during long trips on the highway, the car will allow you to accelerate sharply if necessary, even at a maintained high speed.
Fuel consumption for any of the available power units is in the range of 7-7.5 liters, which is an acceptable figure.
All-terrain station wagon Lada Vesta SV Cross
The Lada Vesta Cross station wagon concept car and photos were presented in Moscow in August 2015. The launch of the model into mass production took place on September 11, 2021 . The model's designer in charge is Steve Mattin. Price from 755.5 thousand rubles (increases periodically).
{loadposition adsense1}
The regular Lada Vesta SV station wagon appeared along with a cross version, its sales also started on October 26 (more details about the regular station wagon here).
The previous president of AvtoVAZ, Bo Andersson, assured that the Vesta Cross station wagon would appear on September 25, 2021, exactly one year after the sedan, but with the arrival of new management and the commitment to complete import substitution, information appeared that the start of production and, accordingly, the start of sales could be postponed to 2017 year, due to a delay in the delivery of components to the plant. At the Moscow Motor Show 2016, these data were confirmed - we saw serial all-terrain and regular station wagons only in the summer of 2021.
Station wagon Lada Vesta SW Cross
As can be seen even from the photo, the main differences between the all-terrain version and the classic station wagon presented at the same time are:
• increased ground clearance to 203 mm (this is even more than that of Renault Duster), tire profile, body kit; • sloping, sporty roof shape; • complementing the interior with bright orange elements.
It is important to note that Vesta Cross is not an SUV, as you might think, but just an all-terrain station wagon front- drive (like a sedan).
The photo shows the serial Lada Vesta SV Cross
Design
Speaking about the design of the Lada Vesta Cross, we can say that in terms of external characteristics the car is no different from other modern AvtoVAZ models. There is a recognizable X-face on the front and sides, as well as similar stampings. The front part of the body stands out thanks to a rather large air intake and a metal protection insert, as well as enlarged headlights. The stern has a standard luggage compartment lid, as for cars of this class, as well as a plastic bumper with a metal trim at the bottom. The manufacturer installed a plastic body kit along the entire perimeter of the body.
The interior design also turned out to be quite classic for the entire Lada model range. One of the distinctive points will be the use of decorative color inserts in the interior. The central panel is equipped with an analogue instrument panel, a digital multimedia screen and a climate control unit. The tunnel is equipped with cup holders, a gearbox control selector, a parking brake lever and an armrest. By the way, the dividing armrest is offered not only for front, but also for rear passengers. The car's interior seats are made to a fairly high quality. They are moderately rigid, equipped with lateral and lumbar support, as well as a heating system.
The luggage compartment is not too voluminous, but has a three-level floor, as well as several hooks and shelves, thereby increasing its capacity.

The future of the model on the market
It is already known for certain that Lada Vesta will receive a long-awaited update in the near future. Following this, modernization should also occur with the cross modification of the car. The new Lada Vesta Cross has already been shown in rendering images. Note that the model will have a truly impressive appearance. First of all, it is worth noting that the car will try on a newfangled coupe body, similar to the BMW X6. At the front there will be the usual X-face for AvtoVAZ models, more modern LED optics and additional air ducts in the bumper. On the side there will be stampings that will be carried over from the current version of the machine. The rear will be distinguished by massive glazing, and the rear bumper will be equipped with a large LED strip that will act as an additional brake light.
It is expected that the model will receive fairly modern equipment. The car will be equipped with modern multimedia, dual-zone climate control, as well as a host of sensors and security systems. The engine line of the car is still kept secret. Vesta Cross will probably receive more productive units from Renault.
Competitors
The presence of a high level of ground clearance, a plastic body kit and suspension adapted to Russian operating conditions allows us to say that domestic cars have practically no competitors among their “classmates”. With some stretch, these can be called: KIA Rio, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid.
