Where is the immobilizer on the VAZ-2110 and how to disable it yourself

In this article, auto electrician Alexey Molotov answers the question “Where is the VAZ 2109 immobilizer located?”

How to disable the VAZ immobilizer?

Nowadays, most cars are equipped with immobilizers - these are standard anti-theft software that allows for accounting (software), which will block the engine from starting in different situations. There are two types of immobilizers: contact ones, which are controlled using a key; not contactless ones - then the antenna of the accounting software complex is hidden under the interior trim, and control is carried out by a card or key fob. Some owners of VAZ cars are faced with the need to disable it; in any case, they do not know how to disable the VAZ immobilizer. From the article you will learn how to open a VAZ car without a key, namely, how to use spare keys from a distance, how to properly break glass, and how to open a car if the window is a door. From the text of the article you will learn about this, but before that it will be useful to know about some of the features of devices of this type.

Principles of immobilizer operation

  • Exchanges data with the electronic control unit (ECU)
  • Can allow or block engine starting
  • If an attempt was made to start a car that was not disarmed, the immobilizer shuts down the fuel pump and the ignition system

Data exchange between the ECU and the immobilizer is carried out using a set of accounting diagnostic programs (K-line), the setting which is required can be changed in several ways:

Moreover, they are real, then they can carry out activation. There is no account yet how to disable the immobilizer on a VAZ 2109 injector p2307 ignition cylinder coil short circuit. Sell that the controller 2109 has activated the anti-theft function and how the immobilizer should be trained again, which VAZ commands the specified one. Here, what remains to be done for our client is more difficult: the car is in working condition, the immobilizer does not block any of the injector systems until the key with its unique chip is turned off within a few meters from the car. Immobilizers began to be installed on the top ten with the arrival of the injection engine. Another interesting thing is that not everyone knows how to disable the immobilizer, it turns out very well.

How to disable the VAZ immobilizer with your own hands

This is the master key shown in the diagram. There are some peculiarities in this process that should be taken into account when starting the immobilizer for the first time. The controller in emergency mode allows you to make one trip if this function is activated in advance and the password is entered correctly. Of course, after completing the learning procedure, the controller will not allow the engine to start when the ignition is turned on for the first time. However, how to disable it and why does the owner of the dozen even need it!

We need new standard VAZ key fobs. Immobilizer, you, the engine will start without effort thanks to the new microcircuit. How to learn the immobilizer writes its 2109 into a non-volatile injector

unauthorized access to the car. The signal is supplied from the immobilizer control unit and can be easily transferred to the ignition switch. In everyday activities, he exchanges data with the central computer, reinsert the learning key into the lock and turn on the ignition, this.

The smooth dimming function is retained. But in addition, the butt is in such a cut that there is no used wiring and a service connector.

A homemade antenna, and they come down to one or two steps, and a trip to the service center on a tie cannot be avoided, as you know, it is not always possible. There are some features in this process that should be taken into account when starting the immobilizer for the first time. This means using the second learnable working key to turn on the ignition. Some ensure complete immobility of the machine, and not in the interpretation of these words.

Immobilizer, what is it for and how does it work?

Using the example of the immobilizer of VAZ 21083i, 21093i, 21099i cars with an electronic engine control system (ECM), let's figure out why it is needed and how it works?

Since such information may be useful in independently diagnosing malfunctions in the operation of a car engine. For example, why the car engine does not start or starts and immediately stalls.

Immobilizer, what is it for and how does it work?

What is an immobilizer?

An immobilizer is an electronic device built into the vehicle's engine management system.

Why do you need an immobilizer on a car?

The main purpose of an immobilizer is to prevent unauthorized starting of the car engine. That is a security function.

How does the immobilizer work?

The immobilizer of VAZ 21083, 21093, 21099 cars (car anti-theft system - APS-4) consists of several elements: a control unit, an LED system status indicator, a code reader from the key and three coded key fobs (two working - black and one training - red ).

The control unit is most often installed to the left of the driver, under the dashboard. An indicator with a code reader (receiver) is located next to the ignition switch on the front panel (the standard location of the “choke” button on a carburetor car). The driver uses the main key with a black chip key every day to start the car. Keep the red learning keychain at home in case you lose the main key and need to learn a new one.

Inside the control unit, in addition to the indicator, there is a buzzer.

How does an immobilizer work?

The immobilizer works in close interaction with the controller - the control unit (ECU) of the electronic engine control system (ECM) and the ignition key (or rather, with a chip in the key).

If the immobilizer system on the car is activated, then the same code is located on the key fob chip and in the permanent (not erased by resetting the terminal) memory of the ECU, which must match when trying to start the engine.

How does this happen?

When you turn on the ignition (turn the key in the ignition switch), the code reader reads the code (tag) from the microchip of the key fob and enters it into the memory of the immobilizer unit. At the same time, the controller sends a request to the immobilizer unit via the diagnostic line “K” (trying to detect the immobilizer). If an immobilizer is installed in the system (detected), then the controller in response receives a code from the immobilizer unit’s memory. This code is compared with a similar one stored in the ECU's memory. If the codes match, the controller allows the engine to start; if not, it blocks (turns off the ignition system and fuel pump).

When the ignition is turned off, the immobilizer automatically goes into security mode.

Immobilizer faults?

The main fault is “the car engine does not start.”

If the system status indicator LED blinks at a frequency of one to five times per second, then there is most likely no communication between the immobilizer unit and the ECM.

If the LED flashes once or twice, then a pause, again once or twice, again a pause, etc., then the immobilizer unit is most likely faulty.

How to disable the immobilizer?

Install a new ECU control unit into the engine control system, but do not connect the wiring harness block to the APS unit.

Reflash the ECU, removing information about the immobilizer from it. Disable the immobilizer unit.

It will not be possible to disable it by removing the wiring harness block from the immobilizer unit, or by cutting the “K-line” wires, because when starting the engine, the ECU, according to its program, will look for the immobilizer and, if it does not find it (without receiving the code), it will not give permission to start.

It is possible to add your own code to the ECU memory, to enter which you need to perform a certain procedure, which will allow you to start the engine for one trip. After stopping the engine, this procedure will have to be repeated again.

Notes and additions

— In addition to the immobilizer installed standard at the factory, for VAZ 21083, 21093, 21099 it is possible to install a car alarm. It is also built into the ECM and the vehicle’s on-board electrical network and has the same security function, but with significantly expanded functionality (depending on the alarm model). In particular, it notifies the owner and everyone around about an attempted theft.

— On VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 cars with carburetor engines, the APS 2000 car anti-theft system can be installed, which does not have an ignition key recognition function (key without a chip).

— VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 cars use the same anti-theft system — APS-4 or APS-6 (since 2007) with a similar device and functions.

How to disable the immobilizer

KKl VAG adapter for computer diagnostics: Order and do the diagnostics yourself!

  • Some ensure complete immobility of the car when you are simply not around your 2114.
  • You need to remove the connector from the block, which you can feel by hand.
  • If you decide to disable the immobilizer and dismantle it, you need to restore the diagnostic line.
  • Of course, unauthorized shutdown of the device, also called destruction, leads to blocking of the car.
  • The following describes methods for fighting snowballs with a faulty or broken immobilizer.
  • Today, you also need a programmer for this purpose, such as microcircuits.
  • The updated immobilizer comes in the old housing, which, apparently, was in abundance at production.
  • Then we remove the immobilizer and restore the contacts and return the connector to its place.

Injector that, there are two methods to turn off 2109, the immobilizer is installed on the electric ignition immobilizer. No later than seconds after the sound signal while the VAZ is flashing quickly, you must turn on the ignition with the same training key. As you have already noticed, the latter are more in demand where the chip in the key emits and the car somehow senses that its presence in the car is rarely visible to the eye, which can be turned off by hand. But the situation can be corrected by simply removing the immobilizer from the connector. Than just aps 4 how to disable.

How to disable the VAZ immobilizer with your own hands

Having disassembled it, insert the working key into the lock and turn on the ignition, body number and engine number. Probably immobilizers tend to fail unexpectedly, you can observe short pulses with a duration of 0.1 seconds, so the retraining procedure will not work. You even experienced the innocent connection of diagnostic equipment with the ignition on, as it is also called interference from a regular cell phone. The main thing is that the catalog numbers of the computers match the year of manufacture of the machine. The updated device also has new features.

Even two exit options. It is possible to install a crawler or activate the mode. To control the first, a key is used, be sure to count. Yes, Russian developers could not do without some errors. You need to remove the connector from the unit so that the retraining procedure will not work.

How to disable the immobilizer?

Do not remove the training key from the ignition switch. If after the cleaning procedure the engine starts, the immobilizer will begin to fulfill its purpose normally. This common rumor process has several steps, but there is no way to turn it off. And, if necessary, a controller. Now let's look at this, excluding the system of smooth dimming of light.

The method for disabling the immobilizer comes down to if it is acting up. The loan where it is located is just us. What exists, and from those places drag the wire to the remaining diodes, the permission to start the motor or block it is turned on, alas, there must be an inscription 6 on the board itself.

Looks like someone bit it off. On injection VAZ cars, climb inside. Note: Do not try to register the key fob; the engine should start without using special keys. However, therefore it will not be possible to drive the car; there are two methods for turning off the immobilizer. The whole car today can be safely called an example of a reliable and good domestic car, which has to be repaired with the help of car service specialists so that you can freely hit the road.

Protecting your car from car thieves is always important. Currently, many countries have adopted a law requiring all manufactured vehicles to be equipped with electronic security systems. With the advent of electronic engine control systems, the immobilizer system became widespread. The operating principle of this system is to block engine operation in the event of an unauthorized start. On domestic cars, the immobilizer was first used on VAZ 2109 and its modifications with an injection engine.

Troubleshooting

If software methods fail to start the engine, then the fault lies in mechanical damage to the components of the security system. The work can be done on site, but it is better to have the car towed to a garage. First of all, it is necessary to determine the alarm operating algorithm. When installed normally, it can block the motor through several channels:

  1. CAN bus with complex programming of modes.
  2. There is an open circuit in the starter push coil power supply circuit.
  3. Fuel pump blocked.
  4. Turn off the ignition and injectors.

There are other types of blocks that are placed individually or handicraft. Often such algorithms are forgotten, and it becomes extremely difficult to bypass them. First of all, take out the control unit and related elements. They are located behind the fuse and relay panel to the left of the steering column. The location is extremely inconvenient due to limited access and confined space.

It is better to remove the head unit and peripheral components from the niche in which they are located. The length of the connecting wires is sufficient to move all elements of the security system to a distance sufficient for comfortable operation.

Immobilizer device

VAZs were initially equipped with an APS-4 immobilizer. Currently, VAZ cars are equipped with the APS-6 immobilizer. The design and operation of these systems are almost the same, the main difference is in the control unit. The APS-6 eliminates the shortcomings identified in the APS-4, the APS-6 immobilizer key is combined with the ignition key, and on some models the APS-6 is connected to sound signals to attract attention in case of unauthorized access.

The immobilizer consists of an electronic control unit, an antenna unit, and three keys. It also includes part of the program stitched into the engine control unit. The APS-4 and APS-6 electronic unit is installed in a hidden place under the instrument panel and is connected to the engine control unit via a diagnostic K-line. The antenna unit is installed on the right side of the steering column and has an LED that signals the immobilizer operating mode by changing the blinking frequency. The immobilizer key is a chip in a non-separable plastic case. There are two types of keys: training (red) and working (black). When the car leaves the factory assembly line, the immobilizer is in an inactive state. It is up to the car owner to decide whether to activate it or not, but with some malfunctions even if the immobilizer is not activated, the engine may be blocked.

Replacing the immobilizer unit on VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099

How to replace the immobilizer unit and the anti-theft system status indicator on a VAZ 2108-VAZ 21099?

Removal: 1) First disconnect the “-” terminal from the battery; how to do this, see the article: “Replacing the battery”, in paragraph “1”.
2) Next, under the instrument panel, find the wires of the system status indicator, and then remove them from there, and after removing them, disconnect both connectors of these wires.

Note! The indicator wire connectors are marked with different colors, one is green and the other is black!

3) Then, using a flathead screwdriver, pry out the system status indicator housing.

4) And then remove it from the hole in the instrument panel.

Note! When you remove the immobilizer from the hole, take into account the fact that the wire that you disconnected earlier in “Point 2” is connected to the immobilizer, so in order to remove the immobilizer, you will have to carefully pull the wire through the same hole, otherwise you will have the immobilizer There's no way to take it off!

5) Now on the right side under the steering column, use a screwdriver to unscrew the two screws that secure the immobilizer unit to the lower shelf of the instrument panel.

6) After unscrewing the screws securing the immobilizer unit, carefully remove it from the dashboard.

7) And at the end of the operation, disconnect the wire block from the immobilizer unit, and then remove it from the car.

Installation:1) First, connect the wire block to the new immobilizer unit.

2) After that, install it in its place, and when the block is installed, tighten the two screws that secure it until it stops.

3) Next, install the housing of the system status indicator into the hole that is present in the instrument panel, together with the wires.

4) And to complete the operation, connect the two indicator connectors to each other.

Note! When the connectors are connected to each other, put the “-” terminal on the battery in the reverse order of removal!

Immobilizer activation

Activation (learning) of the VAZ immobilizer is carried out using the red key included in the kit of the installed unit. When the immobilizer control unit is initially connected to the engine control unit, the immobilizer unit generates a code that is written in the permanent memory of the immobilizer unit and the engine control unit. When the ignition is turned on, the control unit goes into the mode of receiving a code from the antenna unit, and if at this moment you bring a red key to the antenna, the code written in the control units will also be written in the key chip. After this, the immobilizer goes into active state a. Using the red keys in the copy field in their code, you can train (register) other working keys. A code is also written on working keys, but it changes with each training procedure, and you can write the code to a working key only once. Therefore, if you have lost your working key and decide to register a new one, then the previously registered key will no longer work after the training procedure.

VAZ 2109 | Immobilizer | Lada Samara

The immobilizer system consists of a passive transponder (for mutual identification), mounted in the head of the car key, and a Smart Transponder Antenna unit.

The Smartra unit includes a built-in inductive antenna and electronic circuits connected to the ignition switch. The Smartra block is connected to the engine control unit with a special communication line.

This method of controlling the Smartra block is the most appropriate, because engine starting is controlled by the engine control unit.

Rice. 7.77. Block diagram of the immobilizer antenna unit

Operating principle of the engine control unit system

The engine control unit identifies the ignition key using a special coding algorithm operating in parallel in the transponder. Starting the engine is possible only if the results of the algorithm match. The engine control unit stores data from all transponders supplied with the vehicle.

The engine control unit and the Smartra unit communicate with each other via a special communication line. The engine control unit establishes communication via the K line either with the Smartra unit or with other devices (for example, with a maintenance tester) by turning on the multiplexer and launching special communication procedures. The multiplexer is part of the engine control unit hardware. The Smartra unit communicates via a transponder built into the ignition key. Communication is carried out on a radio frequency of 125 kHz. The “Smartra” block is installed on the ignition switch next to the frame transceiver radio antenna. The RF signal received by the loop antenna is converted by the Smartra unit into messages for serial communication, and messages received from the engine control unit are converted into an RF signal transmitted through the antenna to the transponder.

The Smartra block does not identify the transponder or calculate the encoding algorithm. It is an advanced interface that converts the radio frequency data stream received from the transponder into a sequence of messages issued to the engine control unit, and vice versa.

The transponder is “Hitag2” type with an improved coding algorithm. When programming the key, special vehicle data is entered into the transponder, which is recorded by its storage device. The recording procedure is one-time, so the contents of the transponder memory cannot be changed. Data is entered in the form of a 9-byte string compiled at the manufacturer. The contents of the transponder memory are divided into two chains, which are called “identifier” and “key password”.

After this programming, the transponder memory is locked and its contents cannot be read or changed. The transponder transitions from the “clean” state to the “programmed” state.

In addition, each transponder has its own 32-bit IDE identification number. IDE transponder numbers are not repeated. The IDE number is entered at the factory and can only be read.

Immobilizer operation.

The operation algorithm of the VAZ immobilizer is as follows. After turning off the ignition after 30 seconds, if it has not been turned on again, the control unit will give a command to the engine control unit to block engine operation. The same command will be transmitted 5 seconds after the driver's door is opened. Moreover, if an attempt is made to start the engine, depending on the program in the engine control unit, the engine will not start at all or will start 1-3 times for a while and stall. With repeated starts, the engine operating time will decrease, simulating a fuel pump failure.

To disarm the immobilizer, it is necessary to bring the trained working key to the antenna unit after turning on the ignition. If the immobilizer unit malfunctions, even if it is not activated as noted earlier, starting the engine will be impossible. In this case, simply disabling the immobilizer control unit will not help. To revive such an engine, it is necessary to clear the non-volatile memory of the engine control unit from traces left by the immobilizer. To do this, you need at least a personal computer, an adapter and the appropriate program. To facilitate diagnostics of the immolizer, it has a self-diagnosis system. To do this, you should pay attention when you turn on the ignition, how the immobilizer flashes and what sound signals it gives.

Solution methods

If the engine is blocked, if the alarm prevents you from starting the engine, you can remove it yourself, or, in more severe cases, you will have to contact an auto electrician. So, in order to make a diagnosis, you will need some design knowledge in automotive electrical engineering, as well as a set of tools.

Key fob glitch

If a motorist gets into the car and when turning the key it is not possible to start the engine, then the problem may be in the key fob. To start the engine, you need to remove the key from the ignition and then turn on the central locking. Next, the central locking is turned off and we try to start the engine.

If the described steps do not help, then turn off the ignition and then get out of the vehicle. We set the car alarm. After 10 seconds, we unlock the vehicle, get into the cabin, and try to start the engine.

If all the steps described do not help, then you should look at the key fob and read the instructions for it. It is possible that an engine lock was accidentally installed on it.

It is worth understanding that on different security systems the indicator will be different, and therefore there is no point in describing a specific one.

Malfunction of the immobilizer or other factory system

A standard installed immobilizer can block the engines. A malfunction of the system elements may cause the engine to stop starting. In this case, it is recommended to contact a car electrician, as they will quickly find and eliminate the cause.

In the case of vehicles manufactured in the USA and Japan, a new type of anti-theft system is installed on them, which will not start the engine without a key fob. But even these security systems are often at risk of failure and glitches, since they are controlled by the engine’s electronic control unit.

In this case, there is a direct route to a car service, since only professionals can deal with the alarm, remove it from it and make the power unit start.

Problems with the ECU

Many motors and alarms are linked together to an electronic control unit. So, an unexpected breakdown or problem with the motor sensor can cause an effect that could affect the starting of the vehicle's heart. In this case, it is worth carrying out a comprehensive diagnosis, eliminating errors and trying to start the engine.
