How to change transmission oil in a manual transmission on a Lada Vesta

Changing the oil in automatic transmission (AMT) Lada Vesta

  1. We warm up the car, drive a few kilometers, and place it on an inspection pit (hydraulic lifting mechanism).
  2. We dismantle the engine protection.
  3. We remove the terminals from the battery, remove the air filter and pipes.

  4. We first unscrew the control plug, then the drain plug, and grind off the waste.
  5. We wait for the oil to drain and tighten the plug.
  6. We fill the automatic transmission with new fluid in a volume of 2.5 liters. We use a hose and funnel.
  7. We assemble attachments.

Changing the oil in manual transmission

  1. We warm up the car, set it on the inspection hole, and use a hydraulic lift if available.
  2. Remove the terminal from the battery.
  3. We remove the air filter as necessary. Each master determines independently what is more convenient for him.
  4. We dismantle the engine protection, unscrew the drain plug (key set to “17”).
  5. We substitute the container and grind off the waste (2.2 liters).

  6. Tighten the plug and fill in new fluid in the same volume.
  7. We install the protection in its original place.
  8. We start the engine and check the system for leaks.

We change the oil in the AMT box of the Lada Vesta by analogy with a manual transmission. The volume of oil to be filled is 2.5 liters.

Tips and tricks

If possible, try to always replace the gaskets under the drain plug. Considering that this element is not at all expensive, this recommendation is quite relevant. This approach will allow you to achieve the required tightness and avoid oil leaks from the gearbox during further operation of the vehicle.

You can also find information that fresh oil can be poured into the Vesta gearbox through the hole in the reverse switch. In practice, it is more convenient to fill in oil this way. The fact is that the hole is located on top, in contrast to the oil level control hole in the gearbox, located on the side.

If, when draining the old oil, it is noticed that the waste is very dirty or dark, it contains impurities or particles of metal shavings, then it is best to flush the gearbox before replacing it.

We also recommend reading the article about what kind of automatic transmission is installed on the Lada Granta. From this article you will learn about the features, operating principles and design of the automatic transmission on the Lada Granta.

The easiest way is to fill in the recommended oil, which will then be replaced after 2-3 thousand km. Flushing oils can also be used. First, study the instructions, paying attention to the instructions from the manufacturer of the composition. Then wash is poured into the gearbox, after which one drive wheel should be raised.

Next, you should start the internal combustion engine on the car with the drive wheel hanging out, then engage second gear and leave the engine running for a few minutes (check the washing instructions for details). At the end, you need to turn off the engine, drain the flush, after which fresh oil is poured into the gearbox.

After changing the oil in the Lada Vesta gearbox or on other cars, it is recommended after 2-3 thousand km. Unscrew the control plug and check the level, if necessary, add lubricant so that the level rises to the edge of the hole. It is also important to ensure that there are no oil leaks in the area of the drain and control plugs after replacing the lubricant in the gearbox.

Flushing the gearbox

Not all car enthusiasts share the opinion that it is necessary to flush the transmission when changing the fluid. The manufacturer does not directly indicate the need in the operating instructions, but implies this procedure.

Service station technicians advise flushing the transmission constantly, especially if maintenance deadlines are not met or if there is long-term operation. The transmission oil changes color to dark, metal particles and waste products appear in the composition.

The flushing process is similar to replacing fluid in a manual transmission:

  1. We place the machine on a hydraulic lift and drain the waste.
  2. Through the control hole, fill in a volume of 1.5 liters of flushing, no more.
  3. We start the engine, engage first and second gear for 10 - 15 minutes.
  4. We drain the waste and fill in new oil.

Is washing necessary, which one to choose?

It is necessary to flush an automatic transmission:

  • after long-term operation with old oil;
  • when replacement deadlines are delayed;
  • frequent use of equipment under load.

Tranself 75W-80

In all other cases, it is enough to limit yourself to the usual replacement according to the “drain-fill” principle. However, the manufacturer does not prohibit washing the “robot” every time the fluid is changed. The decision is made by the car owner individually.

What kind of oil to pour into the gearbox of Lada Vesta

Before purchasing a liquid, look at the designations on the VIN code:

Oil SAE 75W-90

GFL13: outdated modification of the manual transmission from the French manufacturer Renault JH3 510 MT;

GFL11: domestic development of mechanics for the VAZ-21807;

GFL12: automated robot for Lada Vesta.

Now, using the index we know, we select the type of liquid:

GFL11:ZIK GFT 75W-85, Transself NFJ;

GFL12: ShellTranslex OIL, Kinetic, TNK;

GFL13 – no replacement.

Engine and transmission oils for Lada Vesta

LADA VESTA

The Russian auto industry has always been considered something secondary in the world of automakers, boring design, lack of comfort, which gave rise to many jokes on the topic of patriotism in terms of choosing a personal car.

However, in 2015, AVTOVAZ presented a new model, the LADA VESTA.

The model's release had the effect of a bomb exploding. The design of the model in this segment caused a lot of controversy. Driving characteristics were also questioned. But time has shown that AVTOVAZ made the right bet. The model caught on and many consumers began to choose the domestic VEST rather than a foreign car of a similar class. 2017 was marked by the release of the SW station wagon; this niche is practically not occupied by competitors. And again, the marketers from AVTOVAZ were not mistaken; the waiting list for this model is already more than three months.

Design and comfort are not all that is needed in a car; a good engine and adequate reliable transmission are a must.

In this regard, AVTOVAZ engineers did not disappoint.

Vesta is equipped with two engine models, the main difference between the engines is the volume and number of horsepower.

Model 21129 with an engine capacity of 1596 cm3 106 horsepower and model 21179 with a displacement of 1774 cm3 122 horsepower. Yes, the lineup is not very diverse, but today it is enough to satisfy consumers.

With transmissions, the situation is a little more complicated; at the moment there are 6 model options.

Two of them are boxes manufactured by RENAULT under the symbols JH3 and JR5.

And the four remaining are domestic development indexes 21807 and 2180 mechanics, 21827 and 2182 are robotic boxes.

Agree that everyone can choose a package to their liking.

After purchasing a new car, every car owner thinks about how to properly maintain the car. VEST owners are no exception. The car is a new product in the Russian automobile industry, its reliability will be higher if you use high-quality materials for maintenance during maintenance.

LIQUI MOLY can offer Vesta owners lubricants of the highest German quality for routine maintenance.

VAZ 21129 and 21179 engines are new generation engines that require a more scrupulous approach to the choice of engine oil.

For owners of cars equipped with a VAZ 21129 engine with a volume of 1596 cm3, we can offer the use of Optimal Synth 5W-40 universal motor oil. Product specifications exceed the manufacturer's requirements, which allows the vehicle to be used with various loads. But if the owner wants maximum engine protection, under extreme loads we recommend using the company’s proprietary product HC-synthetic motor oil Molygen New Generation 5W-40.

Those who purchased a more powerful version of the car equipped with a 21179 engine with a displacement of 1774 cm3 must take into account the design features of the engine and use oils with a viscosity of 5W-30. The optimal choice from the LIQUI MOLY range would be Optimal HT Synth 5W-30 HC synthetic motor oil.

The Optimal line in the LIQUI MOLY assortment was developed and produced at a plant in Germany, taking into account the peculiarities of vehicle operation in Russian conditions.

The choice of gear oil is also not easy, since it is necessary to take into account the design features of gearboxes.

Robotic boxes have certain application-specific requirements. It must be taken into account that the use of a certain type of oil affects the smoothness of switching and fuel efficiency. Technologists at LIQUI MOLY have developed a special product for use in such transmissions: HC-synthetic gear oil Top Tec MTF 5200 75W-80.

This product allows you to operate a car equipped with a robotic transmission with maximum comfort, and the additive package in the oil protects the transmission from wear.

If equipped with a manual gearbox, we recommend using: Synthetic gear oil Hochleistungs-Getriebeoil 75W-90 with maximum protective properties and excellent low-temperature characteristics. I would like to note that this product is universal and is suitable for all types of mechanical transmissions produced by VAZ and RENAULT with which VESTA is equipped.

To facilitate the selection of the company's products, we attach a table for the use of LIQUI MOLY products on VAZ vehicles of the VESTA model range.

How to check the oil in the box

We place the car in a viewing hole, on a roadside overpass. Using the key “14” we unscrew the level control plug; it is located identically in the automatic transmission and manual transmission.

If the oil starts to flow when the plug is open, it means the level is sufficient. Otherwise, replenish the missing amount using a hose and funnel.

Conclusion Do not exceed the maintenance period, do not pour oil above the level on the control plug. An excess amount of liquid contributes to an increase in pressure in the system, deformation of sealing gaskets, seals, and depressurization of the system.

How to change oil fluid

Changing the fluid takes about 20 minutes. Warmed grease is easier to drain, so it is recommended to drive 5-10 km before the operation. The driver will need: keys, screwdrivers, a container for old substances, a hose and a funnel. The car should be placed on an overpass.

  1. Disconnect the negative connection to the battery.
  2. Remove the air filter.
  3. Disconnect the reverse wires.
  4. Having unscrewed the plugs with a key 17, drain the oil into the container.
  5. Insert the hose into the reverse hole. The new substance must be poured through a funnel.
  6. Having completely filled the tank, connect all terminals and wires, close all plugs.

If the quality of the drained oil is very poor (there are metal particles), the gearbox must be washed with a liter of flushing fluid, warming up the gearbox in second gear for 5-6 minutes.

Checking the gearbox oil level

It is necessary to check the oil level in the gearbox every 15 thousand km, as well as when oil leaks are detected on the gearbox housing.

Check the oil level with the gearbox cooled down.

Reviews

Positive
1.Peter , 33 years old (drive2.ru) Sverdlovsk: the car is three years old, I bought it from scratch, I drive it with the original oil. The instructions recommend replacement at 75,000 km. I won’t keep it up, I’ll update it at 60,000 km.
2.Mikhailovich , 45 years old (prom.ua), Krasnodar: the car is a year and a half old, at the next maintenance they opened the manual transmission plug and checked the oil. The liquid is clean, there is no need for “renewal”.
3.Alexander , 35 years old (autotoday.com), Omsk: I heard a lot of negative reviews about the quality of transmission oil and the timing of replacement on Lada Vesta. My mileage is 60,000 km, the condition is good, of course the cloudiness is visible, but not so critical.
4.Kirillovich , 46 years old (rozetka.ua), Rostov-on-Don: the first time I filled in new fluid only at 70,000 km. It was a little dirty, there were shavings in the sediment. I filled it up with Lukoil, I’m thinking of driving 60-70 thousand km.
5.Vladimir Vyacheslavovich , 45 years old, Kursk (avtoflit.com): at every scheduled maintenance I check the fluid level in the transmission, the condition and quantity are normal. I hope to drive at least 75,000 km before replacement.
6.Gennady , 34 years old, Voronezh (autotoday.com): I read that a resource of 75,000 km is too large for domestic transport, so I updated it to 50,000 km. I am sure that I did the right thing and did not violate anything.
7.Petr Vasilievich , 47 years old, Ufa (drive2.ru): I took the car second-hand, in perfect condition from the previous owner. Despite the low mileage, only 50,000 km, I immediately changed the oil, including the transmission oil.
8.Sergeevich , 48 years old, Bashkortostan (drive2.ru): the car is three years old, has not carried out any work, only scheduled technical inspections. After winter I plan to replace the fluid in the box, better before the deadline, I think it won’t do any harm.
Negative
9.Alexey Dmitrievich , 51 years old (prom.ua), Saratov: The Lada Vesta disappointed me a little, the oil in the box darkened already at 7000 km. I don’t know what caused this; the service station did not find an explanation. I plan to replace it myself.
10.Peter , 47 years old, Moscow (avtoflit.com): after buying a car from the dealership, he refused domestic oil, drained it, and filled it with Shell. The quality of our manufacturer is still far from perfect, so I use global brands.
11.Boris Valerievich , 49 years old, Voronezh (drive2.ru): I bought a car with a robotic gearbox, the replacement interval is not indicated in the instructions at all. This is not correct, since each mechanism, each liquid is designed for a specific service life.
12.Georgy Semenovich , 47 years old, Pskov (autotoday.com): drove 3000 km on factory oil, after which he drained it to replace it with a new one. Despite the short mileage, the liquid was already contaminated with sediment.
