Lada Largus operation, maintenance, repair. LADA Largus repair: what breaks most often, how to fix it. Generator failure

Malfunctions of Lada Largus

The performance characteristics and possible malfunctions of the Lada Largus depend on which engine is installed under the hood. Initially, the designers installed French engines. Since 2021, the installation of domestic VAZ 11189 engines has begun, which are not inferior in performance to their foreign counterparts.

Installing domestic engines allows manufacturers to save money and make the price of the car more affordable. This also reduces the cost of spare parts and engine maintenance. But it is believed that VAZ units last no more than 200,000 km, while French ones can last up to 300,000 km.

Like any car, this model has its drawbacks. Repair and maintenance of Lada Largus are cheaper than repairs of Logan. To avoid any surprises, purchase an owner's manual and become familiar with common problems.

Lada Granta

AvtoVAZ realized long ago that it was time to think about a modern replacement for the “classic” models: old cars, no matter how good they are, are already morally obsolete. Automotive design, environmental standards, and requirements for mechanical units have gone far ahead. The first sign was the Lada Kalina, whose production began in 1999. In 2008, on its basis, they decided to create a conceptually new budget version of the car, and 2 years later the first experimental models of the VAZ-2190 appeared.

Thermostat failure

If your thermostat is faulty, you will immediately know by the engine temperature: it will be too low or too high.

Important! Remember that for normal operation the motor needs a certain temperature regime. If it is higher than normal, then the parts gradually begin to deform.

This problem can be resolved by replacing the thermostat. There are several types of these devices, designed for different temperatures. You should get one that suits your riding style.

What's the result?

As you can see, if the engine stalls and the check engine light blinks, it is necessary to determine the cause as quickly as possible. A timely call for service or repairs will allow you to avoid subsequent troubles with the catalyst and lambda.

It must be remembered that tripping and misfires do not always indicate a serious breakdown. In some cases, it is enough to replace the spark plugs or explosive wires, while in others the engine still needs to be repaired.

In this case, the spark on the candles will be normal, the injectors will also supply fuel, the compression measurement will not reveal any deviations from the norm, but the “check” in this case will still blink or blink.

Knocks in the engine

Every car enthusiast knows that knocks and noises in the engine indicate his imminent death. Therefore, you need to be attentive to extraneous sounds and correctly determine their localization.

Causes of knocking in the engine:

  • Loose pistons;
  • Worn crankshaft main bearings;
  • Worn connecting rod bearings.

Repair

If you are sure that the pistons or bearings are knocking, then you need to overhaul the engine. This is a complex procedure and is best done under the guidance of a mentor. You can also watch the video of repairing the Lada Largus with your own hands to learn all the nuances.

Why does the “check” light up: the most common and common malfunctions

So, we figured out the general scheme. Now let's look at what problems lead to the check light coming on and the engine stalling. Often a p0300 error occurs, which indicates that a misfire (misfire) is occurring. There are several reasons for these omissions, and to determine them it is necessary to carry out a step-by-step diagnosis, taking into account certain individual symptoms.

  • You should start by checking the ignition system. The most common cause of tripping is the failure of spark plugs and armored wires. Candles can wear out their service life, break down, or become heavily contaminated. Armored wires suffer from insulation damage and breakdowns. One way or another, the result is either no spark at all, or there is a spark, but it’s weak.

If everything is in order with the spark plugs and wires, you should pay attention to the ignition module or ignition coils, which may be shorting. In this case, it is better to entrust the check to experienced specialists, since unprofessional actions lead to the fact that you can burn the switch or damage other important elements.

  • Having dealt with the ignition system, it is necessary to check the power system. As a rule, incorrect operation of injection nozzles or malfunctions in their operation lead to engine tripping. At the same time, the check will light up or flash.

Wear of ball joints

This is a weak point on all seven-seater cars, as the load is much higher than on the five-seater versions. When buying a used car, ask in what conditions it was used and how often the Lada Largus was repaired. To assess the condition of the ball joints, contact a car service center or check them yourself on an overpass.

Signs of wear:

  • knocking in the suspension when passing a speed bump;
  • play when the wheels swing on an overpass;
  • instability of the front wheels.

Repair

If you encounter such a problem, you need to immediately repair Largus in order to extend the life of the entire suspension. It is performed on a special machine for restoring ball joints, so you need to contact a car service center. Carrying out such repairs on your own is problematic.

Electrical problems

This is a typical disease of all Largus. The main reason is bad contacts installed at the factory.

Signs:

  • instrument readings constantly fluctuate;
  • electrical appliances or one of them do not work;
  • sensors fail;
  • The ignition does not work due to high-voltage wires under the hood.

Troubleshooting

To repair the Lada Largus with your own hands in this case, you first need to determine the cause of the malfunction. Perhaps the contacts have oxidized, causing one or another electrical appliance to stop working. The wire may be broken. In this case, you need to test the circuit to understand which wire is faulty.

Engines Lada Largus 1.6 liter 8 valves

In the first years of production, this station wagon was equipped exclusively with engines from Renault and the base power unit was the 8-valve K7M engine, known to us from Logan. This is a classic old-school internal combustion engine with distributed fuel injection, a cast-iron block, an aluminum cylinder head without hydraulic compensators, and a broken timing belt that bends the valves. It doesn’t have any serious problems; on the forums they only complain about frequent electrical failures, regular oil and antifreeze leaks, and also floating speeds due to contamination of the throttle. This engine was coupled with a Renault JH3 5-speed manual gearbox.

At the very end of 2015, the 8-valve K7M replaced a similar domestic engine 11189. It also has conventional distributed fuel injection, an in-line 4-cylinder block made of cast iron, an aluminum head with 8 valves and without hydraulic compensators, and also a timing belt drive. This unit does not cause any particular problems and worries its owners only about trifles: various sensors often fail and the attachments do not have a long service life. Until 2018, when plugless pistons appeared, the valves were bent due to a broken belt.

In February 2021, the VAZ 11189 power unit replaced the newer 8-valve VAZ 11182. This unit is structurally similar, but has a lightweight connecting rod-piston group, crankshaft, camshaft and another cylinder head cover with a more efficient ventilation system, and the valve shims have given way here all-metal pushers.

Manual transmission breakdowns

The manual transmission is considered the most reliable among all types. In domestic cars, manual transmission does not cause problems up to 200-250 thousand km with regular oil changes. But at high mileage, Largus owners complain about malfunctions.

Signs of damage:

  • Crunching noises when changing gears;
  • Inability to engage gear;
  • Sharp mechanical sounds during movement;
  • Spontaneous jumping out of gear.

Manual transmission repair

Most often, manual transmission malfunctions are associated with a broken gear selection cable. You can repair a Lada Largus car with your own hands in the garage by disassembling the box. But if you do not have experience, it is better to turn to craftsmen who can disassemble, repair and reassemble.

K4M on Lada Largus Cross versus 8 valve

We have already said what engine is in the Lada Largus Cross - it is K4M. Now let’s study what its 8-valve “competitor” looks like. Until 2010, it developed 90 horsepower, and then, during the transition to the new Euro standard, the power decreased. But one graph has remained since then.

Torque chart for K7M

You can remember only two numbers - 105 and 121. This is how many newtons per meter the motor develops, if you look at the ends of the 1000-2000 range.

Now let's look at a similar graph relating to the 16-valve. Here, even at one thousand rpm, the torque is 110 N*m. And two thousand corresponds to the numbers 135.

Torque chart for K4M

It turns out that the 16-valve engine will be more torquey even in the “lower” frequency range (1000-2000). Of course, this looks atypical.

The general rule is this: an 8-valve engine pulls better at the bottom, and a larger number of valves only produces high power. Here, as we see, the rule was broken. But it is broken for the benefit of the buyer.

Details about the 16-valve Cross engine

It is known that the Renault K4M engine exists in several versions. The best of them is 110-horsepower. We are talking about a motor with automatic phase control, invented by Renault many years ago. You can find such a motor under the hood of the Duster crossover.

This is what a timing belt corrector should look like

Almost the same motor, where the phase regulator was replaced with a regular gear, ended up under the hood of the Lada Largus. It develops 102 horsepower, and just like its 110-horsepower brother, it complies with Euro-5 standards.

We look at the engine on the Cross version from the inside

As already mentioned, the Lada Largus Cross engine can only develop 102 “power”. Here a regular gear is put on each of the shafts. Now, if there was a “regulator” on the right, the power would increase to 110.

ICE K4M, Largus family

The “phase regulator” itself is a complex and expensive unit. It is often damaged due to low-quality fuels and lubricants. In general, VAZ designers decided not to take risks, protecting the consumer in advance. No unnecessary details - no problems. Normal logic.

According to the regulations, the “phase regulator” is supposed to be changed every 120,000 km. And the cost of this part exceeds the price of 10 timing belts. Such a “Cross” - who in Russia would need it?

The main “plus” of the K4M engine is its hydraulic compensators. 8-valve engines have nothing like that.

Here's a "hydrik" and a "hydrik"!

The number of compensators is 16, and they make the operation of the motor almost inaudible. Moreover, this is done in any of the modes - even at low speeds under load. But the crossover, in theory, should just “make noise” - there is nothing strange about that. However, preference was given to the 16-valve engine model. Whether this is good or bad, the buyer will decide.

If the timing belt breaks, each of the two engines – both K4M and K7M – will bend its valves. There is parity between them. In other respects, the 8-valve model turns out to be worse. But maybe the reader has a different opinion on this matter. Then share it with us.
