Choosing winter and summer tires for Chevrolet Niva

As you drive, the tire tread gradually wears out. Under normal conditions, Chevrolet Niva tires can withstand a mileage of 40-50 thousand kilometers. After this, the tread height decreases. As a result of wear:
  • braking distance increases;
  • the car loses stability when cornering;
  • When driving on a wet road, the effect of aquaplaning occurs.

Further wear causes the tire to lose strength and may burst when driving. Therefore, you need to change your tires in a timely manner and install tires that suit the weather conditions.

Selecting tires by parameters

When choosing tires for a car, you should remember their intended purpose. Ground clearance, comfort, noise level and cross-country ability depend on a number of parameters.

Size

The main parameter that you should first focus on is the diameter of the corresponding wheel rim. But even the manufacturer itself supplies different modifications with different tires. For example, on the L or LC trim levels, which are considered basic, tires corresponding to 15-inch wheels are installed. The LE comes standard with alloy wheels with a diameter of 16 inches from the factory.

If we talk about the tire width, then for the basic version it is 205 mm, and for the luxury version (GLC and GLS) – 215 mm. The profile height must also be taken into account.

Note that the index means the percentage ratio of the profile height to the tire width.

Chevrolet Niva cars are equipped with low-profile tires (60%) and high-profile tires (70%, 75%). The first is usually used in the city, and the second outside. The disc has its own parameters: offset ET=40 mm, bolt pattern 5x39.5, as well as the diameter of the hub hole, which is 98.5 mm. But these parameters will not be needed to select tires. There is no consensus on the set of parameters. Some owners prefer to use two sets per year, while others make do with all-season tires.

Tread type

The variety of patterns on tires gives a misleading idea about the types of treads. However, there are only three of them.

  1. A symmetrical tread without direction is characterized by the fact that the tire can be installed on any wheel during installation. This means complete variability in terms of the direction of rotation of the wheel. Such protectors are considered universal, as they are equally suitable for highway and off-road use. As a rule, models with a symmetrical tread are inexpensive and offered by the manufacturer.
  2. The symmetrical tread with direction removes water from the contact area of the wheel with the road. Such rubber provides reliable grip when driving at high speeds. The direction of rotation of the wheel is indicated by an arrow on the side of the tire.
  3. The asymmetrical tread is also capable of removing water. But the tire makes no demands on the direction of rotation. It is important to observe the “inside” (inside) and “outside” positions.

Speed index

Rarely does anyone pay attention to this parameter, however, it does not lose its importance because of this. The speed index is indicated by the Latin letters M (130 km/h), N (140 km/h), P (150 km/h), Q (160 km/h), R (170 km/h) and S (180 km/h) h). Considering the speed performance of the Chevrolet Niva, it becomes clear why the speed index is not relevant for owners.

Load Index

The load index refers to the numerical value preceding the speed index. The units are taken arbitrarily and can take a value from 70 to 120. This corresponds to a load of 335 to 1400 kg per wheel, respectively.

Standard wheel sizes

The factory equipment of the Shnivy provides for the installation of two wheel options: 15- and 16-inch. Based on this, and also taking into account the dimensions of the wheel arches, the tire sizes are also binary: 205/75 R15 and 215/65 R16. When using wheels with such indicators, the manufacturer guarantees their trouble-free mileage in a variety of conditions, including even diagonal hanging.

At the same time, some deviations from the factory settings are allowed. For example, 215/75 R15 tires fit well into existing wheel arches without catching wheel arches or other parts of the body even with maximum steering or when driving off-road. However, if you install “mud” tires of the same size in this car, then in some positions the side wheel lugs may abnormally catch the wheel arch liners or bumper. 225/75 R16 tires can behave similarly if the steering wheel is in one extreme position or another.

The standard wheels of the Chevrolet Niva ensure trouble-free operation of the vehicle in a variety of road conditions.

Tire markings are deciphered as follows:

  • tire width in millimeters;
  • percentage ratio of the tire height to its width;
  • inner (landing) diameter of the tire in inches.

Tire sizes are directly related to their performance. Wide tires have a larger grip area and a shorter braking distance. In addition, wide wheels have a lower specific ground pressure, which improves the vehicle's maneuverability in off-road conditions. That is, the advantages of wide tires are obvious. However, there is also a downside to the coin, which worsens the good picture of using wide tires:

  1. As tire width increases, rolling friction increases proportionally, which requires additional fuel consumption.
  2. A large area of contact with the road provokes aquaplaning, that is, sliding through puddles, which is less likely with narrow tires.
  3. Reducing the specific ground pressure, which improves the vehicle's off-road performance, simultaneously worsens the vehicle's handling on country roads.
  4. Wide tires weigh more than narrow tires, which puts additional stress on the suspension.

That is, the use of wide tires is justified only when the vehicle is primarily used in off-road conditions.

Based on the ratio of the height of the tire to its width, tires are divided into:

  • low profile (from 55% and below);
  • high-profile (up to 60–75%);
  • full-profile (from 80% and above).

At the factory, high-profile tires are installed on the Chevrolet Niva car. In order to install full-profile tires on it, it is necessary to carry out a suspension lift. If you install low-profile tires on standard wheels, the ground clearance can reach a dangerously low level, which threatens the car’s components with damage.

2056017 with an overall wheel height of 31.4 inches and a 265/70/17 of 31.6 inches.

2358516 is 31.7 inches, 2657516 is 31.6 inches, and 2857016 is 31.7 inches.

215/75 R15 - 31.3 inches.

Without using lifting, you can install wheels on a Chevrolet Niva 4x4 with the dimensions discussed above. It should be taken into account that although these dimensions fit normally into the standard parameters of the car, when using, for example, “mud” tires, problems may arise with the wheels catching the wheel arch liners or bumper. Most often, Shniva owners install UAZ wheels with a diameter of 31 inches on their cars.

Often, car enthusiasts believe that lifting increases the ground clearance of the car. However, this is not an entirely accurate judgment. In reality, ground clearance is increased due to the use of wheels of larger diameter, which can reach 33 inches. But lifting helps to install such wheels.

  • more aggressive surroundings of the car;
  • possibility of installing mud tires on it;
  • protection of components and assemblies from road irregularities due to higher ground clearance.

Most often, the lifted Chevrolet Niva 4x4 is equipped with wheels reaching a size of 240/80 R15.

Lifting allows you to install wheels of a larger diameter and with better maneuverability on your car.

The wheel size for this SUV is in accordance with the parameters of the installed wheel rim. The disk on the Chevrolet Niva has the following parameters: disk offset (ET) - 40 mm, bolt pattern - 5x39.5 mm, hub hole diameter - 98.5 mm. The mounting diameters of the wheels, depending on the modification of the SUV, come in sizes 15 and 16 inches.

As standard, the SUV is equipped with aluminum and steel stamped wheel rims. Owners can change them to purchased cast or forged ones.

The wheel alignment angles on the Chevrolet Niva SUV are as follows:

  • The longitudinal inclination angle of the turning axis is 3° 40' /-30'. This is the angle between the vertical and the projection of the line that passes through the centers of the ball joints onto a plane that is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine. It stabilizes the steering of the wheels in the direction of straight-line movement.
  • Wheel camber angle - 0° 30' / -30'. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel in a straight position and the vertical. It is responsible for the correct position of the rolling wheel during suspension operation.
  • The wheel toe value is 0/-1 mm. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel and the longitudinal axis of the car.

  • surface diameter;
  • reach length;
  • tire width;
  • height in percent;
  • diameter of the metal rim.

The higher the disc is installed on the car, the greater the risk of skidding and reduced control efficiency. At the same time, excessively low wheels also negatively affect ground clearance, lower ground clearance, and limit the vehicle’s maneuverability.

Service station specialists strongly recommend changing tires strictly according to the seasons, and to a lesser extent using universal, all-season tires. The operating temperature range is several degrees lower than seasonal tires, resulting in reduced vehicle controllability.

To choose the right tire you need to be able to read the indices and other symbols on the tires, namely:

  • “T” - the maximum permitted speed of movement is not more than 195 km / h. “H” - up to 205 - 210 km/h. It is not recommended to exceed the speed range, as there is a high probability of shooting, cord deformation, and, as a result, an emergency;
  • “Q” - load capacity index: from 85 to 490 kg;
  • “ET” is the metal rim bead extension coefficient;
  • “KM” - partial and full load index: no more than three passengers, cargo in the trunk up to 50 kg;
  • “M S” - full load - more than three people and over 50 kg in the trunk.

The main task of the controller is to monitor changes in air pressure in the tire and transmit data online to the electronic control unit. The latter compares the indicators with the programmed ones and informs the driver about a possible malfunction. Most often, this is a sound signal combined with light flickering.

Principle of operation

  • A pressure measuring sensor is installed on the inside of the tire. This must be done with the wheel lowered.
  • After activation, the controller measures the pressure every 3 seconds and sends the data to the ECU. Bluetooth technology is used as a means of communication.
  • The electronic control unit analyzes the obtained indicators for each of the wheels and compares them with the specified parameters.
  • The end result can be duplicated on a smartphone if a special application is installed on the latter.

Choosing tires for the Chevrolet Niva

First of all, you should remember that universal tires, which are installed from the factory, perform very mediocre on and off the track. An experienced car owner approaches the choice based on several conditions:

  1. Conditions (road surface);
  2. The presence or absence of tuning (lifting, widening of wheel arches);
  3. Price;
  4. Manufacturer's authority.

Together with the above list, it is necessary to decide on the parameters that were written above. But not every buyer can take into account so many indicators at the same time, so let’s conditionally divide tires into two categories: some are more suitable for urban conditions and the highway, while others are adapted for off-road use.

How to choose tires for Niva

Tanks (in our case, Nivas) are not afraid of dirt. Accordingly, the choice of tires for a Russian SUV should be carefully thought out and justified.

Selection options

We bring to your attention several important characteristics that need to be taken into account when choosing tires to replace the factory set:

Summer-winter or all-season

An all-season or summer-winter option is the first stumbling block. Winter tires are soft and resistant to sub-zero air temperatures. It is important that tires do not tan in the cold. Otherwise, the likelihood of an accident increases. The main quality of winter tires is excellent grip on snowy or icy road surfaces.

Tires for urban conditions

It is neither necessary nor possible to turn a Chevrolet Niva into a fast supercar, so even those who drive a car in the city still prefer to endow it with off-road qualities. Of all the classes of tires, the ones marked A/T (All Terrain - for any terrain) look advantageous here. They have greater wear resistance and lower noise levels.

Maxxis AT-771 tires for Chevrolet Niva are suitable in two variations: 225/70 R15 and 225/75 R16. Wheels of a larger radius are installed on a lifted Niva. This model is considered universal, as it is suitable for the off-season. High cross-country ability on ice is not observed, but for loose snow and slush it is an excellent option. At the same time, the wheels are well balanced, the car turns obediently, and the tires are wear-resistant.

The BFGoodrich AT model was called “Worms” for its original tread. We are interested in the sizes 215/75R15 and 235/75 R15. Wide tires - for a raised Niva. The so-called worms drain water perfectly. The car is practically not subject to hydroplaning. An excellent option for the highway can also be used in light frosts. But when winter comes, it’s better to “change your shoes.”

Very quiet and soft tires that are suitable for covering long distances on the highway - Yokohama Geolandar A/T. Here fans of classics (215/65 R16) and deep tuning (235/70 R15) will find suitable options. The protector has a high degree of self-cleaning. It is absolutely unsuitable for use in winter, but performs well in mud and sandy soils.

As for winter tires, we recommend paying attention to the Nokian Nordman 7 SUV Hankook I* Pike RW11

The best winter tires

Native tires for the winter are not the best solution for the Niva. Still, in winter, when the road is covered with ice or strewn with snow, driving a car requires a lot of experience, skills and professionalism of the driver. Of course, it is easier to drive a car when it is “shod” in the appropriate “sneakers”. We are talking about car tires for winter use.

Hankook Tire i*pike RW11 175/80 R16 91T

Studded tires Hankook Tire i*pike RW11 175/80 R16 91T are suitable for crossovers, SUVs and cars in the SUV segment. The model has been awarded the Nordic Swan environmental label. Has a V-format tread pattern. There is no hydroplaning due to the rapid removal of water and mud. Low noise production and increased traction and grip qualities are the result of using an optimized stud arrangement. This model is characterized by a 6-row arrangement of studs.

Hankook Tire i*pike RW11 175/80 R16 91T has a unique design. Ribbed grooves increase maximum traction on snow and ice. Side slots ensure rapid removal of moisture and snow mass.

Off-road tires

If you want to test your “iron horse” off-road, then you should take a closer look at tires marked M/T (Mud Terrain).

Let us remind you that such tires are not suitable for the track for several reasons: high noise, poor handling, rapid wear).

An important rule that a car owner should remember is that off-road tires are good for these conditions. It is made of special rubber and has increased softness. The tires withstand low pressure well and are not damaged when hitting rocks. For such performance you have to pay with high fuel consumption. Prominent representatives of M/T models are the Ya-569 Medved, Cordiant off Road and Hankook Dynapro MT RT03.

Buying wheels for a Chevrolet Niva can be difficult. Choosing tires for a domestic SUV is a responsible task. The vehicle's handling, driving comfort and passenger safety depend on it. The tread pattern also determines fuel consumption, the behavior of the car when skidding on asphalt or off-road performance.

Wheels for Chevrolet Niva are selected depending on the season - summer or winter. They differ in tread options, the presence or absence of studs and the quality of the rubber itself. This, in turn, must retain its properties at certain temperatures.

There are also all-season tires, but due to the lack of studs, they slip on ice and wear out faster in the heat. Such models cost 30-40%, and sometimes twice as much, as their summer or winter counterparts.

All-season tires 205 75 15

All-season tires are installed on the Chevrolet Niva at the discretion of the owner. They differ from other types in their tread. The inner side of an all-season tire is used for driving on loose snow, and the outer side removes water from the tire contact patch. The standard size of all-season tires suitable for this domestic SUV is 205/75 R15.

On a note!

The composition of all-season tires is selected so that it does not harden in cold weather, and does not melt in summer. At the same time, it must be wear-resistant when driving on dry roads and safe when driving on snow, water and ice.

These tires are perfect for the following situations:

  • The region has fairly mild winters with stable above-zero temperatures.
  • The car owner's budget is limited for the purchase of both winter and summer tires.
  • It is not possible to store two sets of winter and summer tires.

You might be interested in Hankook tires

All-season tires also have their disadvantages:

  • high noise;
  • increased fuel consumption;
  • dynamic characteristics are reduced;
  • increased wear.

Of the all-season tire models of this size, the following are suitable for the Chevrolet Niva:

  • The Maxxis AT-771 features an aggressive tread design that provides excellent traction. The tires have a zigzag sidewall that improves handling on dry and wet surfaces.
  • The Goodyear Wrangler HP is a high-performance 4x4 hard-road tire. They show excellent handling on the road.
  • "Kama-Euro 228" have good directional stability when driving on highways and dirt roads, as well as high wear rates and low rolling resistance.
  • Forward Safari 540 from the Altai Tire Plant is a radial tubeless tire with a metal cord in the belt. The tires have an all-terrain tread pattern and are designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h. They have increased maneuverability on soft soils.

All-Season Tires
All-season tires are used by many RVers year-round, and most car owners keep all-season tires as a spare at all times. In regions with mild winters without snow or frost, drivers make do with an all-season vehicle all year round.

What should you know when you need to buy wheels for a Chevrolet?

Before buying tires, you need to know the size of the rims and their main characteristics. If you do everything correctly, the tires will definitely fit the car.

The manufacturer has provided the following installation options:

  • 205/70 R15;
  • 205/75 R15;
  • 215/65 R16.

The nomenclature is easy to decipher - the first number means the width of the tire, in this case it can be 205 or 215 mm. The number separated by a fraction shows the height of the profile as a percentage of its width, and the last number indicates the diameter of the disk for which the rubber is intended.

Tires are suitable for all wheels, and they can come under different markings:

  • 6×15 ET 40;
  • 6.5×15 ET 40;
  • 6.5×16 ET 40;
  • 7x16 ET 40.

ET 40 is the offset, it is the same for all cars and is 40 mm. Pay attention to the first number, it shows the width of the rim in inches. If you put tires on a rim less than 6J, very soon the rubber will “lead” and it will become unusable.

What is better: summer - winter or all-season?

When choosing a tire, you must be guided by the weather conditions in which the tires will be used. They are made from different materials.

For winter, soft rubber is used, resistant to sub-zero temperatures, which has a high level of grip on icy and wet roads.

Summer tires are made from durable hard rubber, which is resistant to high temperatures.

All-season tires consist of chemical compounds that reach average parameters, which guarantee adequate density in summer and grip on slippery roads in winter. All-season tires have a characteristic tread structure that allows you to cope with snow in winter and ensures safety in conditions of heavy rain or icy roads.

The most acceptable option for harsh winters is the option of winter - summer tires according to the season. All-season tires may behave inappropriately in severe frosts and you need to drive very carefully.

Since Niva cars come from the factory by default only with all-season tires K 156-1 from the Kirov Tire Plant, the question of alternatives arises. Many Niva drivers prefer to choose the best rollers for the conditions in which their SUV will be used. Therefore, if you want to replace the standard with more suitable tires, advice will not be superfluous due to the abundance of choice and prices of such products.

When looking for all-season tires, you should pay attention to the following criteria:

We will not take into account driving speeds; an SUV is not a sports car.

For the eldest of the Niv 2121 family, lighter tires are preferable due to lower power. Niva 21213 is equipped with a more powerful engine and a 5-speed gearbox. Larger sneakers are suitable for it - 205/70/R15, or Kama 232. The differences between 2121 and 2131 are that the latter has an injector and 21213 from 21214 too. This will not significantly affect the choice of shoes.

For the cold season, you should choose softer tires. This will give better grip on snow and ice, and they will cling to the asphalt well, which will keep the car’s handling at the proper level. And it is better to give preference to wider wheels due to the larger contact patch between the tire and the road surface. At the same time, a slight increase in fuel consumption is a small price to pay for the stability of the car.

It is not forbidden to use a car with “original” tires off-road; on compacted snow, the car obediently follows the turn of the steering wheel. Shallow mud and muddy dirt roads will not cause any inconvenience in driving. But ice and swampy terrain will help replace the standard with Kama Flame 515.

This model is available in studded and studless versions, 15 and 16 inches. Deep, loose snow is her element, ice and mud rides are more confident than on the Kirovskaya 185/75/R16. The price of Flame is very reasonable. And the resource is considerable - 70-80 thousand km.

The market offers an abundance of different brands, several domestic, many Chinese, and some European ones. Of the domestic ones, Kama Flame wins in terms of price/quality ratio. The products of the Volzhsky tire plant Voltyre are also in use. Chinese rubber is the leader in the number of brands producing it. The price varies accordingly.

When choosing tires for the winter, use the table above. In addition, it is allowed to use winter tires (MS) of the above dimensions and index Q with a corresponding limitation of the maximum vehicle speed (up to 160 km/h).

Choose winter tires on your Lada 4×4 that are as narrow as possible so that the pressure of the car on the surface is greater, this will improve traction. Also remember that wide tires are more sensitive to the ruts on the road.

The choice of tires for R16 wheels is not large; most often they choose sizes 185/75 R16, 175/80 R16, or 215/65 R16. Due to the paucity of choice, many SUV owners install R15 wheels on their Lada 4×4.

R15 wheels can be borrowed from Chevrolet Niva wheels, which fit without modifications. Thus, the choice of tires will increase significantly and you will be able to choose the appropriate tires for certain operating conditions. In addition, a car with such wheels will look more stylish. In addition to standard tires for R15 wheels, you can install 205/75 R15 tires.

Do you dream of a Lada 4×4 with big wheels, but don’t want to cut the arches? The maximum tire size for a Lada 4×4 without modifications is 215/75 R15, and the rims must have an offset of 40, otherwise the tires will touch the fender liners. Finally, install alloy wheels on your Lada 4×4 and you will get a stylish SUV!

Green indicates the minimum deviation of the wheel diameter (up to 3 mm); Orange indicates a diameter deviation from 3 to 6 mm.

When installing tires or wheels that differ in parameters from those recommended by the factory, you can:

Choosing summer tires

Whatever manufacturer you choose, first of all you need to pay attention to the tread pattern.

The expected operating conditions of the car depend on it:

  1. The manufacturer installs tires with a symmetrical tread pattern without direction; if you wish, you can purchase tires with a directional tread. These wheels are suitable for driving around the city and on the highway.
  2. For use in more severe conditions, choose tires with an asymmetric tread pattern. A car with such wheels will be controllable on wet asphalt and in moderate off-road conditions.
  3. If you are going to drive outside the city, it is better to buy special mud tires. Its tread is higher and rarer. Driving on such wheels at high speeds is dangerous, plus they make a lot of noise on the highway.

Also on the rubber there are marks on the load capacity and speed index; these parameters are standard and are suitable for all modern cars. The maximum speed of the Chevrolet Niva is 140 km/h, this value is sufficient for any wheels.

Factory tire parameters

Not all Russian roads have smooth and high-quality surfaces. We are not talking about large cities with a population of over a million, although here too there are often unpleasant “surprises” on the roads in the form of potholes and other irregularities. Today we are talking about the outback and country roads. Off-road requires an appropriate level of car. VAZ-2121 is the optimal vehicle for off-road driving.

VAZ-2121 is the best car for Russian off-road

Relatively comfortable off-road driving and driver safety depend on the technical characteristics of the car. Tires play an important role in driving a vehicle. The vast majority of VAZ-2121 are produced with factory tires VLI-5 R16 175/80. Basic tires have many disadvantages:

Choosing winter wheels for Chevrolet Niva

When buying winter tires, they look exclusively at the ratings - all parameters in terms of tread pattern and sizes are the same.

Typically, owners choose from two options:

  1. Rubber without spikes or Velcro - suitable for regions with low precipitation, where ice rarely forms. Many do not risk choosing such specimens, because this is an ordinary all-season material, and the effectiveness of its “sticking” remains in question.
  2. Studded tires are an excellent option for regions with snowy climates. The top 5 popular models include: Cordiant, Gislaved Nord Frost 100, Dunlop Grandtrek Ice 02, Yokohama F700Z and Toyo Observe G3-ice.

You cannot put tires with different tread patterns on the same axle, as this can cause skidding. When installing used vehicles on the rear axle, it is better to place tires with a large number of studs.

The best summer tires for Niva

Summer tires must withstand high temperatures and be resistant to wear. However, for regions with frequent precipitation, when the asphalt surface is constantly wet, too hard rubber is not suitable. Hard tires have poor grip on wet asphalt.

So, when choosing a summer tire set, the climatic features of the region and the technical characteristics of the car are taken into account. The size must comply with the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer, but the tread pattern and tire width can be selected at your discretion.

Nizhnekamskshina Kama-232

What tires should I put on the VAZ-2121 in the summer? According to reviews from avid supporters of the domestic automobile industry, the Niva performs well with Nizhnekamskshina Kama-232 all-season tires. The design of the model is radial, the sealing method is tubeless, there are no studs. R15 wheels are fitted with 205/70R15 tires, and R16 wheels are fitted with 185/75R16 tires.

Nizhnekamskshina Kama-232 – standard tires. With this modification, “re-shoeing” the car for the summer is not required. High directional stability is ensured by the wide central part of the all-season vehicle.

The linear pattern with Z-shaped blocks provides excellent lateral and linear grip, while the type of road surface does not play a special role.

The Kama-232 is perfect for summer asphalt, and according to comparative tests (the Zarulevites carried them out, I don’t remember exactly) it performed well on both dry and wet asphalt. Of course, there is no point in sticking it into the big mud. A little off-road is hard to stomach. It’s dangerous to drive it in winter; a couple of times my dad turned around almost out of the blue, even at a low speed (about 50 km/h), it’s good that there were no oncoming traffic.

Of the Russian all-season vehicles, I only tried the Kama Fly: in the summer everything is fine on it, it rolls perfectly, it brakes well on dry asphalt, I didn’t notice any hydroplaning in heavy rain (maybe because the tires are still new and the tread is high?). In winter I drove on almost bald tires (I had old tires from the previous owners, the tread was 80 percent worn, I installed a new set in April) - if you are smart enough, then you can drive quite normally in winter, although you have to be careful in the ruts, it throws. When choosing to replace a worn-out Kama Fly with something foreign, I was sorry for the money, because... All the imported tires in the size I needed were almost twice as expensive as the Kama Fly (or I also had to buy new wheels). Something like that.

It's the end of summer, it's time to pick up winter tires for your iron horse. And for the owners of Niva and Sheviks, today I have a full review from the owner of a Chevy, who has been driving our domestic Kama 515 tires for 3 seasons.

It has a studless modification (because it is used all year round, and studs on asphalt are not comme il faut), but there are also exactly the same studs on sale. The price tag is very humane; with the rise in the dollar exchange rate, all growers will have to “put on shoes” in domestic tires, both summer and winter. At first I thought that he had something imported, it had been driving for many years, it was stable. He came up and looked - yikes, Kama. Well, I say - tell me what and how))

So, now, in fact, information on this model of Nizhnekamskshina. Available in 5 sizes, all suitable for Niva and Chevy. Most Popular:

  • 215/65/R16
  • 205/75/R15

The price tag is approximately 2600-2800 for these models. As we see, it’s quite humane, especially during a crisis.

The first is more often installed by car owners, the second by Chevy owners. It all depends on what kind of drives you have, as well as where you use them. The tread pattern is very “winter”, thanks to which the tire behaves normally even on loose snow, on melted snow, on crust, and on ice, of course, worse. Of the minuses, I will note first of all the “instability” of the batch, as a result of which one wheel can be balanced by 40 grams, and the second and third by 100 and 150. So when buying, choose a rounder one. And according to people’s reviews, balancing is the weak point of the 515th Kama.

In winter, my impressions are positive, especially in loose, deep snow - I constantly drive in the “park wherever I want” mode, there are always a couple of places with snowdrifts where I can park. And if everything around is busy, I turn on the low switch and eat a snowdrift. The rubber rolls very cool.

You need to drive carefully on ice; perhaps it would be better with spikes. But if you drive headlong, brake with the engine in advance, then it’s quite possible to drive in winter. The tread has winter Velcro sipes, making the tire all-season. As it turned out later, many of the breeders I know own exactly the 515th Kama, which they drive “in tail and mane” all year round.

I use the Kama 515 all year round and even with decent mileage on asphalt it sharpens very slowly. According to my estimates, there are enough thousand for 70-80 years of use for sure. Although after a year the 4 slats have worn down noticeably and in winter it will no longer be comfortable to drive.

Well, the main use in the summer is fishing and hunting trips, on dirt roads, country roads and mud. Everything suits me here, the mud performance is like that of an AT, and driving on the highway is quite comfortable. Of course, you shouldn’t get into serious mud; the tread pattern is far from the pattern of MUD slippers. But with a lowering, center blocking and a clear head you can go very far, believe me. Well, at worst, I have a fiskar, an ax and a jack)) That’s enough for me.

If we compare it with imported all-season tires for Niva, then the price tag there is already one and a half to two times higher. On average, imported tires cost about 5,000 rubles per cylinder. But here it’s only 2800 - there’s a difference. And in my opinion, the Kama 515 is quite suitable for Niva and Chevy for year-round use. If you don't drive headlong in winter. In fact, these are the optimal cheap tires for year-round use - in snow, mud and asphalt. Other domestic models have a clear bias either towards the summer or towards the winter.

Owner reviews

I use the tires as Velcro. In winter, it holds onto the coating well and in the demi-season period as well. Snow is not a hindrance for her; driving on unpaved surfaces is at altitude. I am pleased with the Kama-Flame bast shoes.

The second winter has begun on the Goform W70. Very pleased for the money. It is completely silent and holds the road well. No wear is visible, no hernias appear. I recommend it to everyone, good tires for the money!

Three years ago, when choosing tires for a car, I decided to get some kind of compromise option for year-round use on various types of road surfaces. I use NIVU only in the countryside, the asphalt-primer-off-road ratio is 40/40/20.

I didn’t want to buy off-road tires - it’s expensive, noisy on asphalt, doesn’t hold up well in winter, and I didn’t particularly plan to get into serious trouble with a stock NIVA. I decided to try Dunlop’s Grandtrek SJ6 winter Velcro model as an “all-season” tire. The tread pattern of this tire seemed to me optimal for various types of road surfaces.

The dimension was chosen 205 * 70 in a 16 radius, this is the optimal size for a stock, non-lifted NIVA, it doesn’t touch anywhere and looks good.

For three years I tested it in various conditions and I can say that the choice was truly optimal. In winter, these tires handle exceptionally well in snowdrifts, providing good grip on winter roads. There is no point in talking about ice; it has no thorns.

It also rides well on sand...

In the presence of VAL Racing blocking, I was not able to plant the Niva on the bridges right away.

I didn’t experience any problems on dry primers either, it just drives.

The most problematic coating for it turned out to be a soggy primer - the tread quickly becomes washed out, but at the same time it plows sluggishly.

It behaves excellently on wet and dry asphalt, comfortable and quiet even at 90 km/h, I didn’t notice any vibrations.

In terms of wear resistance, under this operating mode, Dunlop also pleased me, over 5000 km. wear was approximately 10%.

Seasonality

According to this criterion, car tires are divided into three types:

Summer

Tires are made of hard rubber that does not soften at high temperatures.
They wear out more slowly on hot asphalt. This guarantees a long service life and short braking distances. The tread pattern of summer tires removes water well from the contact patch and prevents aquaplaning.

However, at low temperatures, the rubber of summer tires loses its elasticity. At temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius, the adhesion coefficient of such tires decreases sharply. In winter, the braking distance of a car with summer tires increases significantly.

Important! Tires that have lost their elasticity glide easily even on clean, dry asphalt. Therefore, it is necessary to install winter tires for the winter.

Winter

The rubber of these tires remains elastic at low temperatures, which ensures reliable grip on asphalt. In order to hold the car on snow or ice, the tread of winter tires has many sipes, the edges of which “cling” to the road.

However, such tires soften greatly on hot asphalt and are not suitable for use in the heat. Separately, it is worth noting the winter studded tires.

They are made of harder rubber than winter non-studded ones. Spikes provide good traction in snow and mud. However, studded tires have a longer braking distance on asphalt and ice. Therefore, in urban conditions it is better to use tires without studs.

All-season

These tires are a cross between summer and winter. Accordingly, they wear out faster than summer tires on hot asphalt. And when used on snow, ice or even winter asphalt, all-season tires do not have a good grip coefficient. Its only advantage in summer is good cross-country ability in mud or sand. Therefore, such tires are not so rare on Niva.

Car tires on Chevrolet Niva

Practical advice

The behavior of the car on the road depends on the parameters of tires and wheels. The manufacturer suggests using tires and wheels of a certain size on the Niva, only in this case it provides a guarantee for the chassis and suspension.

Before changing the size of tires and wheels, consider all the pros and cons.

In what cases can you change tires that are not recommended by the manufacturer?

  1. There is no way to buy typical size tires.
  2. The desire to purposefully change the smoothness of movement and the car's response to handling to suit your driving style.
  3. Choosing a cheaper option in order to save money.

Information on measures taken to counter COVID-19

Choosing tires: where to start?

Why change tires at all? An experienced VAZ 2121 driver does not have such questions. Nivovod begins to think about replacing tires not because of a good life, nor in search of extreme sports or unusual sensations. The thing is that all-season factory tires 185/70 R16, being the result of compromises, unification and budgetary frameworks, turn out to be a very mediocre assistant both on the city highway, and when driving off-road, and in winter.

Off-road variant of Cordiant

Here you already have to choose tires for yourself, based on a number of basic parameters:

  • in what operating conditions will the future wheels be used, whether the car will have to cut through asphalt road surfaces or more, after all, off-road;
  • how far the driver is ready to go in the matter of tuning his iron horse, will the owner’s heart tremble to send his brand new VAZ 21214 under the knife (some tire sizes require widening the wheel arches or bending their sides outward, lifting the suspension, as well as lifting the body of the VAZ 21214 directly above the frame );
  • based on the budget (a lift kit costs about 3-4 thousand rubles, it can be easily installed even in your garage, a completely acceptable set of tires can cost 3.5-4.5 thousand rubles, and the most “juicy” offers reach up to amounts of 8-12 thousand rubles);
  • take a thorough look at the offers of various brands (it’s worth paying attention to already proven brands, since good tires are not just a beautiful tread pattern, but also the correct chemical composition. And you can be sure that you won’t get a “pig in a poke” only by trusting a manufacturer with a good reputation).

You can’t do without basic knowledge of tire labeling. Typically, the name of the tire indicates three main parameters (for example, 185/70 R16). Where 185 is the tire width in mm, 70 is the profile height expressed as a percentage of the width and R16 is the radial diameter of the rim in inches. There is also almost a dozen additional information, incl. regarding the type of tire (M+S - all-season, AT or MT, these abbreviations are discussed in more detail below), manufacturer, operational and technical characteristics, braking coefficient (A - good, B - acceptable, C - so-so) and much more.

Tires for Chevrolet Niva - a selection of excellent AT tires R15

Chevrolet Niva, judging by a survey on the website, is the second most popular SUV among Russians.
However, very few people exploit it harshly (like Niva, for example). And it turns out that for many Shevik is a kind of expedition vehicle, which for the most part is driven on the highway, dirt roads and just a little bit on mud. That is why the most popular tires, of course, are the All Terrain mud tires. They are not as muddy as the Mud terrain class, but you can also drive quite far on them. But driving on the highway is comfortable, and such tires do not wear out as quickly as MT mud tires.

In our selection, we will look at ten excellent AT class tires - for use 80% on the highway and 20% on dirt. These are universal tires, many of which are all-season tires and are used all year round.

Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10

One of the best ATs for the Chevrolet Niva, I have one in size 215/75/R15 (the front ball spacers are 2 cm, because the front springs are sagging, and this size easily fits into a stock car). My mileage is already 60 thousand km and the front wheels are worn down by 40 percent, the rear wheels are only 20% worn. The most killer tires, soft, comfortable, in the mud they once competed with Kordikas and looked very decent. The cords sometimes went further, but driving them on the highway was a complete chore. And Hankuk is beautiful. Highly recommend. I used it all year round, even in severe frost (-32 Celsius) the tire remained soft and did not tan. Really, the best all-season mud tire, and we tried 5-6 of them for sure.

Maxxis AT-771 "Bravo"

The 771 Maxis are also among the top all-season vehicles, which are optimally suited for expeditioners of the Chevy Niva class. Soft, comfortable, they don’t sharpen quickly, they handle dirt just fine for an AT-shki. The tread pattern of all AT tires is very similar to each other. Well, there are white letters here, maybe this is also important for someone)) In general, Bravo can very often be seen on Nivas and for use 80/20 dirt/dirt is ideal.

Bontyre Stalker A/T

New for the 2015 season, it has already collected a lot of positive reviews. Nivovods note the softness of the tire, comfort on the highway, sidewall strength and excellent cross-country ability for a tire of this class. True, there are only sizes 205/75/R15, as well as 215/65/R16. That is, for a cross-car, these sizes are perfect. The price tag isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s definitely 25 percent cheaper than top-end imported tires.

Kumho RoadVenture AT KL78

Another amazing All Terrain tire. The tread pattern is large enough for an AT tire, and as a result, it has good off-road capability (be careful, this is not a Mud Tire). On the highway it’s comfortable, the tire is soft, on the Shevik you can maintain a cruising speed of 100-110 km/h and drive without strain. Off-road - the distance between the tread blocks is quite wide, so it removes slurry from the contact patch quite well. The downside is that there are no side teeth (lugs), so it doesn’t go well out of the ruts, but show me at least one AT tire with lugs)) For your money, this tire is just super, you can drive a lot on asphalt, and then take it go fishing and wrap yourself in mud. If you are driving alone, then having a winch is a must, because good AT tires drag so hard that you begin to believe that you can drive everywhere))

Matador MP 71 Izzarda

Matador is a division of Continental, and the Germans know how to make rubber. True, more of a road one)) But this model turned out to be very good, the tread pattern is aggressive and large, the blocks are large and the distance between them is decent. You can rarely see them on Sheviks, since most people roll more famous tires. But pay attention to the Izzarda, a typical cross-country tire, ideal for dirt roads and light off-roading. Compared to highway cars, gasoline consumption increases by at least a liter per hundred, this is the price to pay for versatility, because now you can easily go fishing.

Cordiant All Terrain

A long-known and proven tire. Not as popular as Cordiant Offroad, nevertheless ideal for a touring car - not bad on the highway, excellent on dirt roads, light off-road - not bad. Positioned as an all-season product, but it is better to use only in the summer. Indestructible, moderately comfortable, a good budget option. The tread pattern, of course, is biased towards “driving on the highway and dirt roads”; if you often leave the highway, it is better to look for something more off-road.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T D697

A classic of the AT rubber genre, large tread pattern, large blocks and a decent distance between them. Ideal for light off-road use, indestructible, strong sidewall. It will, of course, get washed out in clay; it’s still not pure mud. There are a lot of positive reviews - people ride for 70 thousand km, the tire wears out quite slowly. That's why many people install it - it lasts a long time, it's excellent on the highway, excellent on dirt roads and fields, and excellent off-road. It’s not worth using in winter, even if it reaches zero it gets tanned and becomes plastic. In this regard, Hankuk is much cooler. But in terms of cross-country ability, the Bridge is in no way inferior, dragging through the mud to the last. For AT tires the result is simply amazing.

Cooper Discoverer A/T3

Expensive, but really worthwhile tires. I saw it live once and how it drove through the mud - it was cool, it gave the impression that the Shniva had purely mud tires installed, because the Nivka was like a tank. Premium tires are expensive, but they last for 4-5 seasons and no matter how long you drive on asphalt. There is minimal sharpening on the highway, although the rubber is soft, that’s what quality import means. It can be difficult to find on sale in the right sizes. Of the AT-shke, this is definitely in the top 3 in terms of its characteristics. Super tires.

All these 8 models can be safely taken and installed on a Chevrolet Niva, there are the required sizes - 215/75/R15, 205/75/R15 or 205/70/R15, some models are also available in the 16th diameter. Leave your reviews on tire models in the comments, and recommend something else from your experience.

Although my advice is that for winter you need a winter one, and for summer a summer one (in my case, a mud one).

Bontyre Stalker AT. Kama Flame is an outdated tire, made from unknown materials (especially in the last few years), and in the 3rd year it all cracks. It seems to me that it is praised by those who have never ridden anything else. The Stalker AT cannot be compared with the Flame in terms of quality, it is quieter, more comfortable, holds the road better and is definitely not inferior in cross-country ability. The choice of sizes is very large. My father has been driving it for 2 years now and knows no grief. I installed it for myself for 2 months for testing, and I really liked it too. Available sizes and prices for them can be found here bontyre.ru/catalog/stalker_at In real life the drawing looks like this

good expensive tires, why the hell change them! Drive as long as it runs, then buy the same new one!

It’s a pity to kill her in the heat, especially since she’s a little noisy and somehow I don’t particularly like her on the highway

It’s strange to hear about the noise from the owner of a Niva!))) then buy cheap narrow road tires!))

Maybe I haven’t gotten used to foreign cars yet))))

for VAZ 21063 from new tires to 1 mm remaining tread 90,000

But regarding the noise, I think at 13,000 rubles you probably won’t find anything at all that is inaudible.

I read about this Kama flame, it seems to be low noise and nothing in terms of characteristics

To avoid bumps and rapid tire wear, you need to balance at least 5,000 km. and after any rides in the mud, it’s good to wash the rims and only after that it will be normal. When I found out about this, I tested on a VAZ 21063 with these procedures on tires with a remaining tread of 1 mm, about 90,000 km, I can’t say the exact figure. BUT on the highway 80% and 20% city and Bridgestone tires.

SAMPLE: 195/65 R15 84 T

195 — tire profile width, mm. Tire section width is the linear distance, expressed in millimeters, between the outer sides of the sidewalls of an inflated tire, excluding elevations due to markings, trim or protective belts or rims;

65 - profile height, indicated as a percentage of the width. In our case, the height is 65% of the width (195 mm), i.e., 126.75 mm. This ratio (H/B, where H is height, B is width) is usually called the tire series. The series is an extremely important parameter; the driving performance of tires largely depends on it

Basically, the main thing for me is that the tires don’t hit or make noise, and I have fun riding.

Nah 225 is the width of the tire and 70 is the height

The store told me that 70 is a percentage of the width, supposedly on the Kama it will become lower than the car. I can’t figure it out myself

The tires are ok and hold the road on the asphalt and behave quite well in a dream. WITHOUT FANATISM IF. And most importantly, it holds wet ASPHALT very well during heavy rain

Well, if it’s 215, then I can advise that I have tires. MARKING OF TIRES A/T CORDIANT ALL-ROAD 215/65 R16. But I think with these tires you won’t fit in at 13,000. The tires are good and I rode in the winter, but knowing that it was on mud. I’m used to just having both winter and summer.

The domestic off-road vehicle Chevrolet Niva is very popular in the Russian market. Moreover, the operation of this machine is possible in different conditions that require the presence of appropriate “shoes”. The factory installs tires of size 205/75 R15 or 215/65 R16, so when choosing new tires you should be guided by these data, choosing similar tires or the ones most suitable for these sizes (for example, 215/75 R 15).

Our review presents the best tires of different brands that will provide excellent driving characteristics for this car. The rating was compiled taking into account the declared properties of rubber, the opinions of service center specialists and, of course, owners, whose reviews helped to obtain information about the behavior of a particular rubber in different conditions. For the reader's convenience, tire models are divided into several popular categories.

Tire prices

The cost of tires depends on the manufacturer and tire size. At the same time, summer, winter and all-season tires of the same manufacturer and size are almost the same in price. Only studded tires are noticeably more expensive.

Approximate cost of 15-inch tires for Chevrolet Niva:

  • Kama Flame - 3600 rub.
  • Dunlop - 4300 rub.
  • Hankook - 4350 rub.
  • Barguzin - 3000 rub.

Tires for Shniva with a seat size of 16 inches are slightly more expensive.

To increase the ground clearance of the Chevrolet Niva, ready-made or home-made “lifting kits” are used. When lifting a car at a high altitude, even shock absorbers, springs and some other suspension parts have to be changed. Thanks to this, it will be possible to insert tires of increased height into the wheel arches. Typically, lifted Shnivy tires are fitted with tires up to 240/80 R15.

Among domestically produced SUVs, Chevrolet Niva has received a well-deserved leadership in sales. But a relatively small percentage of owners use it for its intended purpose - off-road. This car acts as an everyday vehicle. Most often it can be found in rural areas as an excellent option for dirt roads and highway driving. Not everyone decides to “knead the dirt” on a Chevrolet Niva.

Acceptable wheel sizes for Chevrolet Niva without modifications

Tire markings are deciphered as follows:

  • tire width in millimeters;
  • percentage ratio of the tire height to its width;

  • low profile (from 55% and below);
  • high-profile (up to 60–75%);
  • full-profile (from 80% and above).

If the car does not undergo any modifications, then it is allowed to use wheels with the following dimensions:

2056017 with an overall wheel height of 31.4 inches and a 265/70/17 of 31.6 inches.

2358516 is 31.7 inches, 2657516 is 31.6 inches, and 2857016 is 31.7 inches.

215/75 R15 - 31.3 inches.

Maximum wheel size for Chevrolet Niva 4x4 without a lift

Without using lifting, you can install wheels on a Chevrolet Niva 4x4 with the dimensions discussed above. It should be taken into account that although these dimensions fit normally into the standard parameters of the car, when using, for example, “mud” tires, problems may arise with the wheels catching the wheel arch liners or bumper. Most often, Shniva owners install UAZ wheels with a diameter of 31 inches on their cars.

Wheel alignment angles "Niva Chevrolet"

The wheel alignment angles on the Chevrolet Niva SUV are as follows:

  • The longitudinal inclination angle of the turning axis is 3° 40'+/-30'. This is the angle between the vertical and the projection of the line that passes through the centers of the ball joints onto a plane that is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine. It stabilizes the steering of the wheels in the direction of straight-line movement.
  • Wheel camber angle - 0° 30'+/-30'. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel in a straight position and the vertical. It is responsible for the correct position of the rolling wheel during suspension operation.
  • The wheel toe value is 0+/-1 mm. This is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel and the longitudinal axis of the car.

ABOUT COMPATIBILITY OF TIRES AND WHEELS

If you decide to replace the standard wheels and tires on a Chevrolet (LADA) Niva, then rely on the full diameter of the wheel. How to do this, using the example of 205/70 R15:

  • A disk with a diameter of 15″ is equal to 15 * 25.4 (1 inch = 2.54 cm) = 381 mm.
  • The height of the tire profile is calculated as follows: 205*70/100=143.5 mm.
  • Add up the rim diameter and two tire profile heights: 381 + 143.5 * 2 = 668 mm.

In order not to perform such calculations, we post a compatibility table for tires and wheels for the Chevrolet Niva (left for 205/70R15, right for 215/60R17):

Green

the minimum deviation of the wheel diameter is indicated (up to 3 mm);
Orange
indicates a diameter deviation from 3 to 6 mm.

We can determine the width of the rim using the table:

When installing tires or wheels that differ in parameters from those recommended by the factory, you can:

  • be refused warranty repair of the chassis;
  • be stopped by a traffic police inspector, who has the right to draw up a report on the car’s non-compliance with the requirements of the Technical Regulations;
  • fail to pass technical inspection.

Attention!

Installing larger wheels may lead to problems with ABS and ESP calibration (the systems may not work correctly).
