General greetings! Here we will look at one of the reasons why the ZMZ 405 engine fails. Why this particular engine? Because I’m writing about what I recently dealt with.
So: gazelle. Engine ZMZ 405. The ignition coils are located in the spark plugs themselves. Here is how it was. The engine was damaged, so naturally we checked the spark plug wells. Because often on these ZMZ 405 and 409 engines, over time the rubber gaskets under the wells stop holding them in place and the oil fills them and the spark plugs break through.
And so it turned out. They removed the valve cover, replaced the gaskets and wells and put it in place. When installing the coil candlesticks, they did not calculate the force and broke the pin with which these coil candlesticks are attached. We made a seal with glue and secured the pin, but it stood up crookedly. Well, it’s okay, it’s holding on. The gazelle has left. All the way. And after a while he arrives. The driver says that he’s tripping.
We thought that maybe the wells were filled with oil again, but no! The driver said that he had already driven thirty thousand with the same spark plugs. Well, tell me where it says that the warranty on spark plugs is thirty thousand. Well, maybe some super-duper gold diamonds. We unscrewed them and looked at the gaps. the electrodes are burned out so that the gap is about two millimeters. New spark plugs were installed. They started it. Everything is normal.
Wait, don't leave, the story is not over. He comes and starts again. I read somewhere that the clearance on these engines is from 0.75 mm to 0.85. Well, okay, let's believe the information. The gap on the spark plugs was set to 0.8 mm. They started it, it doesn’t seem to be bothering me. He drove a circle around the garage. Gazelle drives stupidly. There is no such power as there was with the former gaps.
I tell him that I haven’t seen new spark plugs with gaps as big as 0.8 mm. Usually new ones have a gap somewhere around 1 -1.1, 1.2mm. And it is written in the instructions for these candles that it is strictly not recommended to change the gaps on them. He says that let's set the gaps as they were before. I say, well, not the same at 2 mm, but as usual from 1 to 1.2. Installed. They started it up, everything was fine and he left. And......what do you think happened next? Well, of course! It! He came again, troit. We don’t know what to think, we checked the compression, 10-12 everywhere. We were thinking, maybe valve seals? Well then the candles would be in oil.
I turned to a specialist friend of mine. And special, I heard the real one. He says either the injector is clogged, or the problem is in the ignition system. He explains that in these engines, in case of misignition, the spark plug did not work. The brains turn off the injector of the cylinder where the spark plug is leaking. This says it was done so as not to burn the catalyst with unburned gasoline. And even if the spark plug works again, the injector will not turn on until you turn off and start the car again and it will work again until the moment when there are gaps again. He, the specialist, that is, says that it is possible that the contact of the wires with the spark plug-coil periodically disappears. We decided to replace the connector to the coil holder. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that the same cylinder failed.
They cut off the connector from the wiring of a car with the same engine, in the Kalash series. Connected, installed and... . No, you didn’t guess. He has been driving for a week now and has no complaints. The 409 engine has two ignition coils and two connectors for them. Each coil produces a spark for two spark plugs. The candlesticks are ordinary. The 405 has four spark plug coils and therefore four connectors. .Hence the conclusion: the more connectors, the less reliability. Well, this is of course my opinion. That's all. Good luck!
Troubles the engine 405 euros 2 reasons
Commercial vehicles often come to our service center, namely GAZelle cars, and today is no exception. An onboard workhorse with a ZMZ 405.22 Euro-2 engine pulled into the diagnostic post. The owner of the car (or rather the third owner) after purchasing it noticed that the car was driving somehow wrong. The revolutions dance as they please: they rise and fall. The check light blinks like crazy, the car jerks and shakes. In general, the car lives its own life, and something needs to be done about it
