Does the starter turn?
First you need to check the voltage in the car's on-board network. To start the machine normally, this indicator should not be lower than 12.5 V. To accurately measure the voltage, you must use a voltmeter.
A starter is a mechanism that requires a large starting current. It is this unit that turns the crankshaft for starting. Therefore, if the VAZ-2107 (injector) does not start, the reasons may be trivial - low battery voltage. The solution is to charge the battery. You should stick to 12.5-14 Volts.
Pre-launch inspection and preparatory activities
If a VAZ 2107 car starts poorly when hot or does not function at all in normal mode, this means a loss of settings or an accumulation of minor faults. Engine technical inspection includes the following steps:
- Checking the levels of operating fluids in the engine crankcase, gearbox, cooling system and brake system.
- Carefully inspect the external surfaces of the engine for oil, antifreeze or fuel leaks. Particular attention is paid to the high-voltage wires that are connected to the spark plugs; the contacts must be clean without signs of burning or damage.
- During long-term parking of several days, gasoline evaporates from the float chamber, and the level is replenished using a hand pump.
The next action of the driver of the VAZ 2107 is an attempt to start the engine. To do this, you need to take a seat behind the wheel and set the gear shift lever to neutral. When turning on the starter, it is recommended to depress the clutch pedal to reduce the load on the battery. If the engine does not start after 5–10 rotations with the starter, you should stop trying and carefully inspect the carburetor and other components.
VAZ 2107 engine does not start - reasons
There are not many problems with starting the engine on the VAZ 2107 and they arise infrequently. By and large, they are divided into two categories, when there is no spark or no fuel supply. If the engine does not start, the reason should be looked for in the following:
Difficult starting, as a rule, is characterized by characteristic symptoms by which a malfunction can be diagnosed, and then the corresponding system or component can be repaired. To better understand the issue, it is worth considering possible problems that lead to problematic startup of the power unit on the “seven”.
No spark or weak spark
The first element that you should pay attention to if there is no spark or if it is weak on the VAZ 2107 is the spark plugs. It is necessary to check their condition and then evaluate their performance. The part may be coated with carbon deposits, which prevents the normal formation of a spark. The check can be performed without much difficulty, even if the breakdown occurs in the middle of the road. In any case, a set of spare spark plugs should always be at hand. We carry out diagnostics in this way:
But installing a new spark plug does not always help in starting the engine. Therefore, you have to check other elements of the power system to determine the absence of a spark.
After the spark plugs, attention should be paid to the high-voltage (HV) wires. They are diagnosed in the following order:
In most cases, if problems arise with the spark plug wires, they are replaced with a set. If checking the spark plugs and explosive wires does not produce results, proceed to diagnosing the ignition distributor contacts: you will need to open the distributor cover and inspect the contacts for carbon deposits. If traces of burning of the contacts are noticeable, then using a knife, carefully clean off the resulting layer.
After the distributor, check the ignition coil. For diagnostics you will need a multimeter. With its help, we check the resistance of the coil windings: on the primary indicator it should be in the range of 3–3.5 Ohms for a coil of type B-117 A and 0.45–0.5 Ohms for 27.3705. On the secondary winding for the B-117 A coil, the resistance should be 7.4–9.2 kOhm, for a product of another type - 5 kOhm. If deviations from the norm are detected, the part will need to be replaced.
If the spark disappears on a car with contactless ignition, in addition to the listed procedures, you will need to check the switch and Hall sensor. The voltage switch is located on the left mudguard in the engine compartment. The easiest way to check is to replace the part with a working one. Another diagnostic method is also possible, for which you will need:
Main reasons for difficult starting
Each of the car models, both domestic and foreign, has its own operating characteristics. The engine most often starts if one of the systems is not functioning well: ignition, power or starter. A clogged carburetor, worn distributor or insufficient battery charge are the most common causes of difficult starting.
The VAZ 2107 car in this regard is no exception to the general rule; it has all the features of carburetor engines. Difficulties related to hot starting or the car not starting after a long period of parking, all this happens quite often. Qualified diagnostics of the systems mentioned above will eliminate the causes and significantly simplify the life of the driver.
Ignition system malfunctions
If the engine has trouble starting hot or cold, one possible problem may be intermittent sparking. Checking the serviceability of the ignition system includes the following operations:
- Inspection of spark plugs, high-voltage wires, distributor, ignition coil and other elements.
- Checking their installation correctly.
- Monitoring the state of the breaker contacts, the size of the gap between them and the ignition timing.
- Checking the functionality of the ignition system as a whole.
This operation is performed together with an assistant, whose task is to turn on the ignition and try to start the engine. In the meantime, the driver removes the high-voltage wire from one of the spark plugs and puts it on a cold spare part. It must be pressed tightly against any metal part of the engine and a test run must be performed.
A spark should jump between the spark plug contacts. A working ignition system ensures trouble-free operation of the VAZ 2107 engine in all modes. Next in line are the carburetor and the fuel pump, on the proper functioning of which the correct mixture formation depends.
What to do if the VAZ-2107 (injector) does not start with a well-charged battery and a working starter? The reasons may be hidden in the ignition system. Here it is non-contact type. The first thing to check is the condition of the spark plugs. They can simply be “flooded”. Unscrew the elements outward and inspect the condition of the electrode.
What to do if the indicator does not meet the norm? The electrode can be bent. But do it carefully. If the reading is less than normal, use a minus screwdriver. If more, tap the electrode on a metal part (for example, an engine valve cover). It would be a good idea to check the spark plugs for spark production.
How to act in winter
There is a single algorithm with which you can start a VAZ-2107 without serious problems in the fuel supply, ignition or power supply systems. To successfully complete the procedure, you will need to have on hand dry, calcined spark plugs, a working and charged battery, and a special spray for the carburetor. Let's look at the launch procedure in more detail:
- Try to remove the battery at night to keep it warm. If you have not done this in the evening, then before you try to start your car, place the battery in a warm place for 20-30 minutes. Remember that when frost sets in, this battery loses its capacity by a quarter, so the inrush current also drops.
- If the temperature drop was not significant or heating the battery did not help, then turn on music in the car or flash the headlights a little in high beam mode. These simple steps will put a strain on the battery. If the quality of the battery is poor, you can charge it at low currents.
- Reinstall the prepared battery and try to start the engine. First, depress the clutch fully, and only then start cranking the starter.
- Warm up the power plant so that the oil becomes more liquid. Smoothly release the clutch to heat the lubricant in the gearbox.
- If the injector stalls during the gearbox warm-up stage, use cylinder blowing. This may not help, then remove the spark plugs and heat them. They may be flooded.
- For a cold start, a special spray is produced, which is injected into the carburetor behind the air vent. If you have an injector, then inject the spray into the corrugated hose, which is also located behind the air vent.
You should also know another popular starting method in winter - “lighting up”. It’s suitable if frost catches you on the road, and there is no way to bring the battery into a warm place. For this you will need a special starting battery or another car with a well-charged battery. Observe the following rules:
- park cars not close to each other;
- use only special cables with clamps;
- To avoid overloading the generator, do not give too much gas;
- connect the terminals observing polarity;
- the car must run for 3 minutes before you disconnect it from the “donor”.
Another common way to start an engine is by pushing. They rarely resort to it if nothing else has affected the car. In severe frost it may be ineffective, so initially all other methods are used.
Frost will not take you by surprise if you prepare your car for the cold in advance:
- change antifreeze;
- install a new set of spark plugs;
- pour anti-freeze liquid into the washer reservoir;
- install wheel arch liners;
- change the tires to studded ones;
- Spray WD-40 into the locks.
Such preparation will help maintain the car's driving performance even with a significant drop in temperature.
When the candles are lit
If the VAZ-2107 injector starts poorly (it catches, but does not start), it means that the combustion chamber is overfilled with gasoline. The normal fuel to air ratio should be 1:14. This problem often happens on such cars. When starting, the fuel pump pumps a lot of gasoline. By the way, on injection engines it is electric, submersible type. Installs directly into the tank.
How to dry candles without removing them? To do this, open the throttle valve when starting. It is mechanical here and is activated by pressing the accelerator trigger through a cable drive. This will allow more air to enter the combustion chamber and the engine will start immediately.
Power system malfunctions
The VAZ 2107 car engine is a proven and reliable unit. If the power unit does not start, the following problems in the power system are possible:
- The standard carburetor is clogged or the fuel level in the float chamber is not correct.
- The starter membrane is damaged.
- The tightness of the tube connecting the device to the vacuum brake booster is broken.
- Damage to the fuel pump membrane.
To eliminate the above listed malfunctions, the carburetor should be disassembled, followed by defective parts and cleaning of all jets and channels. During this operation, special attention is paid to the condition of gaskets and membranes. The car may not start normally due to air leaks in the absence of tightness between parts and damage to the lines.
The VAZ engine does not start well either hot or cold - the fuel pump may be faulty. In this case, the carburetor does not receive the required amount of fuel, which leads to a lean mixture. As a result, the power unit does not start, especially after a long stay, when the fuel level in the float chamber is extremely low.
5.1.3 Interruptions in engine operation
5.1.4. Interruptions in engine operation
What should you do if your car’s engine, which until recently worked “like a clock” in all modes, suddenly began to falter, jerk at idle, and stopped developing sufficient power? Interruptions, as a rule, are explained by incorrect carburetor adjustment, a faulty spark plug or one of the cylinders, or air leaks into one of the cylinders. It is necessary to find the fault and, if possible, eliminate it.
EXECUTION ORDER 1. Start the engine and let it idle. Go to the exhaust pipe and listen to the sound of the exhaust. The sound should be even, “soft”, of the same tone. Popping noises from the exhaust pipe at regular intervals indicate that one cylinder is not working due to a failed spark plug, lack of spark on it, a strong air leak into one cylinder or a significant decrease in compression in it. Popping noises occur at irregular intervals due to improper carburetor adjustment, ignition, severe wear or dirty spark plugs. Popping sounds from the exhaust pipe at regular intervals? Yes: see point 3 2. You can try to replace the entire set of spark plugs yourself, regardless of mileage and appearance, but it is better to do this after contacting a car service center to diagnose and adjust the carburetor and ignition system. 3. Stop the engine and open the hood. 4. Check the condition of the ignition system wires. High-voltage wires must not have insulation damage, and their tips must not be oxidized. Are the wires damaged? No: see point 6 5. Replace the damaged wire. 6. Check the condition of the distributor cap and rotor. Unscrew the two screws securing the plastic distributor cover and remove it. Inspect the cover inside and out. There should be no cracks or carbon deposits on the cover, and the carbon contact should be damaged or worn. The rotor should not have cracks or burnouts. Replace faulty or questionable parts. 7. Remove the ends of the high-voltage wires and remove the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench. When removing high-voltage wire lugs, never pull on the wire itself. Place your hand directly on the tip and twist it from side to side and then pull before removing it. 8. Carefully inspect the candles and compare their appearance with the photographs given at the end of the section. The gap between the spark plug electrodes should be 0.8–0.9 mm. If the candle is black and wet, you can throw it away. 9. If all the spark plugs look good, reinstall them and connect the high-voltage wires. The operating order of the cylinders is 1–3–4–2, the numbering of the cylinders (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) is made from the plastic casing of the timing belt drive. On the distributor cover, the number 1 indicates the 1st cylinder, then - counterclockwise, if you look at the cover from the side of the high-voltage wire sockets - the 3rd, 4th, 2nd. Do not fix the spark plug to the oil filler neck, oil dipstick, fuel pump, fuel hoses, or carburetor. Reliable contact of the body or threaded part of the spark plug with the “ground” is optional, but desirable. Connect the high-voltage wire from cylinder 1 to the spare spark plug. Start the engine. Has the engine trouble gotten worse? Yes: see point 13 11. Replace the spark plug in the cylinder with a known good one. Attach the high voltage wire and start the engine. Are engine interruptions still occurring? Yes: see point 14 12. Bon Voyage! 13. Consistently repeat procedure steps 10–11 with all cylinders. 14. If, as a result of the measures taken, engine interruptions are not eliminated, contact a car service to diagnose the ignition system on a stand or diagnose the engine - measure the compression. Normal compression is more than 1.1 MPa (11 kgf/cm2), a difference of more than 0.1 MPa (1 kgf/cm2) in one cylinder indicates the need for engine repair. If the diagnosis reveals a malfunction of the 3rd cylinder, remove the hose connecting the vacuum brake booster to the engine, turn it off securely and start the engine. If engine interruptions stop, contact a car service center to diagnose and replace the vacuum brake booster. If the engine continues to malfunction, try using a liquid like WD40 to flush the outside of the hose. If engine interruptions stop even for a short period of time, try replacing the hose. |
Distributor
The VAZ-2107 uses distributor ignition. If the car does not start, you should check the condition of the contacts on the high-voltage wires. When the season changes, condensation forms on them. The distributor has five outputs.
Four of them go to the cylinder spark plugs, and one (central) goes to the ignition coil. A white coating often forms on the metal ends. Because of this, the slider will not be able to transmit impulses to the coil. By the way, it would be a good idea to check the ignition distributor itself. The part looks like this:
If it is burnt, the part should be replaced. The price of a new element is 150 rubles. If a spark forms on the ignition coil when starting the engine, the high-voltage wire should be replaced. It also “pushes” on candles. You can see this at night. Small blue sparkles are visible near them. In this case, the wires are replaced as a set. They are inexpensive. New elements cost about 700 rubles.
Electric pump problem
Previously, one of the main problems on the domestic “Classic” concerned the fuel pump, which constantly overheated. But in the injection “seven” it is electric and is cooled by the gasoline itself that is in the tank. If there is no electricity supplied to the element, the car simply will not start. The first thing you should pay attention to is the fuse box.
It is written on the cover which one is responsible for the fuel pump. If the fuse is blown, replace it. A 15 or 20 amp element can be used.
Ignition system malfunctions
Is it possible to check if there is voltage to the fuel pump without a multimeter? To do this, when you turn on the ignition, you should listen carefully to its operation. When you turn the key to the third position, it should make a characteristic hum. It can be heard in the rear of the cabin. If it is not there and the VAZ-2107 (injector) does not start, the problem is in the voltage supply.
The VAZ 2107 car is started using an electric starter. The main difficulties arise due to the following reasons:
- Low battery level.
- Solenoid relay failure.
- Overrunning clutch failure.
If the carburetor is working properly and the ignition system is configured correctly, then most often the car will not start due to a broken starter. First of all, the charge level is checked; if it is insufficient, we remove it from the car and recharge it. If necessary, the mechanism is dismantled for repair or replacement.
Practice shows that eliminating the above malfunctions on an engine that starts poorly or does not start at all allows you to achieve a good result. Experts recommend checking first the carburetor, which is prone to clogging, and other systems that ensure a reliable start.
Fuel system problems
Of the fuel parts that allow accounting (software), the following reasons influence engine starting:
- presence of gasoline in the tank;
- the integrity of the fuel lines under the “belly” of the car;
- cleanliness of the filters: coarse cleaning (located in the tank) and fine cleaning (located under the car, to the right of the spare wheel compartment).
The car turns over but does not start VAZ 2114.
Also included in this category are electronic components that are directly related to the supply of fuel. This is an electronic fuel pump and fuel pump relay.
While inspecting other methods, you need to be one hundred percent convinced that the VAZ 2114 with an injector is filled. “Yes, there’s another l. five” according to the indicator on the tidy, or “I filled it up yesterday, I couldn’t spend that much” are not suitable. The tidy may lie; in other words, there will be leaks in the tank or fuel lines. Carefully check the car for fuel leaks, fill in 5-7 liters just in case. gasoline from a can.
The mesh in the tank gets clogged occasionally, leave the } myth option in the end, but the narrow cleaning filter is worth trying and changing if problems with the electronic part are excluded.
The operation of the fuel pump is checked by ear (after turning the key, you can hear its operation; if not, the pump has “died”, either the pump relay, or a broken wiring). According to the manual, you need to connect a pressure gauge to the fuel system. If the pressure does not stay within 2-2.5 atm, the VAZ 2114 does not grip due to insufficient fuel pressure.
Filter status
The following situation also happens. You arrived at your destination, turned off the engine for two minutes, got into the car and were unable to start it again. What to do if the VAZ-2107 (injector) does not start when hot? This could be due to a clogged fuel filter. Its replacement period is about 50 thousand kilometers. A dirty air filter is also to blame for difficult starting.
If it has traveled more than ten thousand kilometers, it must be replaced. Otherwise, you will encounter startup problems.
VAZ-2107: the injector starts and immediately stalls
In this case, you should check the mass air flow sensor. It is located immediately behind the plastic filter housing.
This element receives information about air flow and transmits it to the control unit. As a result, the electronics makes a decision on the composition of the combustible mixture. The unit can intentionally adjust the concentration of fuel and air. The service life of the mass air flow sensor is 150 thousand kilometers. If the element is dirty, it may send false readings. Due to the lean mixture of the VAZ-2107, the injector does not start or works and immediately stalls. You should also check the condition of the air pipes for leaks. Replace if necessary.
If the VAZ-2107 car (injector) does not start with a working fuel system, check the crankshaft position sensor. If it is faulty, the control unit will stop supplying fuel due to lack of information about its position. The cost of this element ranges from one to one and a half thousand rubles.
