The window regulator on the VAZ 2114 does not work - 6 reasons and ways to solve them

If a problem with the window regulator on a VAZ-2114 occurs while the car is moving, and the driver himself cannot correct the situation on the spot, you need to call a tow truck. The movement of a car when the window has stopped going up or down due to a breakdown, from the point of view of traffic regulations, threatens the safety of passengers and the driver himself. Why does the VAZ-2114 window lifter not work? There are many reasons: lowering is difficult because the fuse has blown, there is a malfunction in the door, etc. This article contains information about the types of failures of window regulators on the VAZ-2114, about methods for adjusting and dismantling the mechanism.

The window regulator on the VAZ 2114 does not work? We repair without outside help

What to do if the window regulator on a VAZ 2114 does not work? As always, there are two options: either trust the specialists and take the car to a service center, or stock up on patience and tools and do everything yourself. VAZ owners usually resort to the second option; it is economically feasible and does not require any special knowledge. Not working power windows on the VAZ 2114 are a common problem on domestically produced cars. Depending on the configuration, VAZs have electric or manual lifts at their disposal.
But in any case, repairs of one type or another will be fundamentally different from others (well, this is logical). But most often, according to observations, the first category falls under the topic of this article. Well let's start with it.

Device classification

Window lifters on the VAZ-2114 are standard for other models of the Samara series. They are classified by drive type into:

The latter are divided depending on the method of transmission of the motor impulse:

  • lever;
  • rack and pinion;
  • cable

By type of construction:

Each model has its own advantages, disadvantages and price. Standard configurations of window lifting mechanisms on the VAZ-2114 consist of two types. Electric drive mechanisms are installed in front, while the rear doors are equipped with mechanical devices.

A little theory

Electric windows have long been used by car enthusiasts; they have significantly increased the level of comfort in the car. Naturally, like everything else, this innovation was put into practice by foreign manufacturers. The domestic auto industry picked up this idea much later.

Speaking abstractly, in terms of build quality, foreign manufacturers are head and shoulders above the Russian auto industry (however, there are significant differences in prices, service and components).

What does it mean? Everything is very simple

, a connoisseur of Russian cars will have to constantly struggle with minor (and not always minor) problems that arise, such as broken window regulators.

If your car was equipped with power windows with mechanical handles, then the cause of the breakdown is easy to find. Most likely, someone, driver or passenger, exerted extra effort and the mechanism gave way. In this case, it is necessary to disassemble the car door from the inside; I remove all the trim.

If the electric lift does not work, then everything is also quite simple. The door on which a similar problem occurred should be disassembled in a similar way. The mechanism of electric window lifts consists of a non-separable motor, which can simply burn out and require replacement. There is also a cable with a bar coming from it. Before replacing, of course, it is necessary to check whether an electrical signal is received by the motor.

Perhaps the reason lies not in the mechanism itself

, but let’s say, in a faulty button, or in other electrical equipment. It is necessary to check the fuses that are located under the steering wheel on the right (under the cover, read more in the car user manual).

Fuse F5 is usually responsible for power windows. If the fuse is intact, then use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the motor terminals. To do this, you can use a regular 12V light bulb.

No voltage?

It is necessary to carefully check the wiring coming from the motor, inspect the relay and control unit. Very often, auto mechanics have to see problems with the button that controls the window regulator. Don't fix it, if it's the problem, just replace it.

It's not expensive and won't cause headaches in the future. If there is voltage on the motor, but it does not work, most likely the drive brush is stuck. You can solve this problem by pressing the button and turning the motor axis. If the cable breaks, it needs to be completely replaced.

As you can see, everything is quite simple. The reasons why the window regulator on a VAZ 2114 does not work are very trivial and only require attention. Even a beginner can cope with their solution.

What is the cause of the problem

Sometimes there is no malfunction as such. For example, window regulators may fail in severe frost, but other electrics also suffer from similar problems. Therefore, experts advise not to save on buying/renting and heating a garage. But mechanical failures are much more common.

If you suspect a breakdown, you first need to check the TsBKE - this is AvtoVAZ’s personal innovation, which operates the electrical package. First you need to make sure the fuse is working. If everything is fine, we disassemble the doors, arm ourselves with a multimeter and measure the voltage at the terminals of the window lift motor. If there is no voltage, then:

  1. There may be a malfunction of the power window control unit (the button for opening and closing the window located on the door).
  2. The problem lies in the connection of the wire connectors.
  3. CBKE refused.
  1. The window lift motor is stuck or stuck.
  2. The window lift cable has already outlived its usefulness and needs to be replaced.
  3. Distortion of the glass itself, while the rest of the system is in full working order.

All of the above breakdowns occur with approximately equal frequency, with the exception of glass distortion, which occurs much less frequently.

Self-detecting a broken power window can be seriously difficult. First, it is difficult to diagnose a CBCE problem. The device is designed in such a way that one of the cables is multifunctional. It could be:

  • X1-4.
  • X1-6.

The essence of multifunctionality lies in the fact that some conductors are capable of independently changing polarity if the appropriate command is received from the CBKE. These pairs can simultaneously control side mirrors, central locking, provide power, etc.

To diagnose a malfunction of the CBKE, it is necessary to perform the X1-4 or X1-6 test, which is multifunctional on a specific vehicle. In this case, you should also press the window up/down button. If the multimeter detects the presence of electricity when the button is activated, then everything is fine. You also need to check sockets No. 1, No. 5, No. 11 and No. 13. If in all cases the presence of current and correct operation of the system are noted, it means that the reason does not lie in the CBKE.

As for the power window control unit, you most likely will not be able to identify the fault yourself. The fact is that it ensures the operation of all such devices in the car, which means you can call it as much as you like, but it will be very difficult to confirm the fact of its failure and find out where exactly it failed. The only real way out in such a situation is to contact specialists at a service station. With a high probability, it will not be possible to do without diagnostic equipment.

Repair is determined by the specific malfunction and is not always possible at home. If we are talking about skewed glass or poor conductor contact, this is not a problem. You can also replace a worn-out window lift cable yourself; you just need to purchase a new one at the nearest car market. If the problem lies in the power window control unit or in the CBKE, then you cannot do without contacting a service center. In this case, independent electronic repair is impossible.

VAZ 2114. Why don't the power windows work?

The fuse and relay are ok, what should I do?

The fact is that after checking the relay and fuse, you forgot that external lighting is also involved in the power supply of the ESP. Personally, I had such a problem, I checked the fuse, relay, removed the door trim and checked the entire circuit. At the service station, the repair took 5 minutes, it turned out that the fog lights, which I don’t have, were burnt out.

2-button power window of the right front door.

3-motor (motor-reducer) for the window lifter of the right front door.

4-motor (geared motor) glass lift of the left front door.

5-button power window of the left front door.

To 5 window relays,

A - to the power source,

In-to the external lighting switch

Of course, the window regulators may not work if something just fell off. Yes, while driving, it also happens that a bolt comes out somewhere. After all, our roads do not really meet the standards. And even more so, if you have electric windows, then the contact may simply fall off. So the reason will have to be found out. And you just need to start by checking whether voltage is supplied to the motor, which raises the windows.

Well, then you’ll have to disassemble the lifting mechanism and see how it works and whether anything got in there.

And only after this is it necessary to check the motor itself. Since it can simply fail.

Reason: broken button

Owners of VAZ cars, over time, begin to notice that the operation of the window regulators is slowing down. The cause may be problems with the mechanism buttons. Inside the part, there is contact between the plates, the quality of which deteriorates over the years. Over time, contact may disappear altogether. As a result, the window regulator does not work on a VAZ 2114 or on another model of a domestic manufacturer.

The main reason why a button may break is the failure of one of the window regulators. The likelihood that both buttons will fail is extremely low. It is worth noting that the mentioned parts have an identical design, which makes it possible for experimentation. Instead of a faulty element, you can install a button from a known good part.

Alternatively, replace the driver's door by using a knife or flat-head screwdriver to pry up the buttons and remove them from the chips. Next, install a working button in place of the broken one and connect it. If a previously faulty window regulator starts to work, then the cause of the problem lies in the button and it must be replaced (repaired).

Malfunction in the fuse box

One of the reasons why the window regulator on a VAZ 2114 does not work is a problem with the mounting block. Open the cover of the block and, using the drawing printed on it, determine the location of the fuse of interest. Assess the condition of the fuse insert through which the window regulators are powered. If it is intact, check the relay.

Inspect the condition of the relay legs and fuse. There should be no plaque on them. If available, use WD-40, but it is better to dismantle the unit completely and, only after that, clean it. The presence of plaque is evidence of moisture getting inside, which leads to a deterioration in the conductivity of contacts. If you conscientiously approach the removal of plaque, the power windows will work. The downside is that, after the next precipitation, the situation may repeat itself - a coating will appear, and the mechanism will stop working.

To test the relay, install a known-good device of the same type in its place. For example, you can take the relay through which the high beam headlight is powered. If, after rearranging, the power windows start to work, throw away the failed relay, buy and install a new part.

If checking the fuse shows that it has burned out, replace the part and check the operation of the power windows. If the mechanism starts working, the problem is solved. On domestic VAZ cars, there are situations when fuses burn out for no reason.

It’s worse if you installed a new fuse-link and it immediately burned out. This indicates a short circuit in the circuit. The reason may be a broken wire or damaged insulation, due to which the “plus” gets to the ground of the machine. In this case, it is better to entrust the solution to experienced auto electricians.

Tracks or contacts in the mounting block

Another reason may be a broken contact of the mechanism relay in the mounting block.

Considering the circuit of the mounting block, we can conclude that a constant plus comes to pin 30 through a fuse, and when we turn on the ignition, we apply another plus to pin 85. As a result of turning on the ignition, an electromagnetic field appears, which closes pins 30 and 87, which provides power to window lift buttons.

This means that if the operation of the plus on the ignition switch is disrupted, the contacts stop closing, even if the relay is in working condition. You can check this by closing contacts 30 and 87 directly, then the plus will come without the ignition switch and if the problem is in it, then the power windows will work.

The video demonstrates another solution to this problem:

But there may also be the opposite situation, that we do not have a constant positive supply to pin 30, and when we turn the ignition key, the contacts close, but nothing happens. In this case, it is best to ring the contact with a tester and find out whether there is constant voltage. For testing, you can connect the plus directly to pin 87, but this is not safe, since the wire will go outside the fuse.

Other causes of power window failure

If the window regulator on a VAZ 2114 does not work, pay attention to the serviceability of the mechanism motor. There are situations when the worm mechanism in it breaks, and then, when you press the button to raise/lower the windows, a loud noise is heard. At the same time, the windows do not move. If you do nothing, the motor may burn out completely.

The window lift mechanism rarely breaks, but this also happens. The malfunction can be determined by the twitching of the glass, but without normal movement up or down. At the same time, noise from the motor is heard.

Window lift repair

The front left window regulator stopped working. I went to the store, they offered me the same non-dismountable motor and a bar with a cable for 1000 rubles. and a collapsible one, a separate bar with a cable and a separate motor for 800 rubles, they advised to take a collapsible one.

I didn’t buy it, I came to my garage and began to disassemble the door, took out this thing without removing the glass, disassembled the motor, and saw that the brushes had worn out, opened the Internet, found an article where craftsmen make window lifters for foreign cars, and decided to do the same.

I bought brushes for a VAZ 08 for 15 rubles, disassembled it, took out two of them with copper wires, sanded them down on sandpaper (price 28 rubles for 10 sheets, it took only 3 centimeters) to about the size they fit, and inserted them. I assembled everything and it works! The standard window regulator is not dismountable.

How to remove a window regulator and install a new part

To remove the window regulator, do the following:

  • Remove the inner door lock handle at the same time as the rod.
  • Lower the glass a little so that the mounting bolts are visible in the amplifier hole.
  • Using a ten key, unscrew a couple of bolts that hold the windows and the lift.
  • Raise the glass as far as it will go and secure it with a screwdriver or tape.
  • Discard the wiring harness from the door and power window motor.
  • Using an eight-inch wrench, unscrew the seven mounting nuts holding the window regulator to the door.

Place the mechanism in its original place, in the reverse order of dismantling. Before doing this, treat the glass lift guide with lubricant.

Repair

To troubleshoot problems with the wipers on your VAZ 2109, it is not at all necessary to contact a service station. The work can be done with your own hands, saving a decent amount of money.

Repair consists of performing several operations:

  • Disassembling the unit;
  • Troubleshooting;
  • Eliminating the causes of purifier failures;
  • Reassembly.

Dismantling

The first step is to learn how to remove windshield wipers. This will give you access to the device and all its components.

It is enough to follow the specified sequence of actions and first familiarize yourself with the wiper diagram in order to do everything correctly.

Scheme

  1. First, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to de-energize the car.
  2. Remove the brush arms by moving them to a vertical position and unscrewing the fastening nuts. Unscrew the nuts carefully so as not to push the lever out. Otherwise, under the action of the spring, it will fly into the glass and break it.
  3. By unscrewing the fasteners, the levers can be removed. It is not always possible to do this manually, so arm yourself with pliers. Be careful not to damage the threaded area. To avoid this, screw the nut back onto the splines, but not completely.
  4. Remove the protective caps made of plastic from the slots on each side.
  5. Unscrew the upper mounting nuts with the bracket and remove them. Under them there are rubber washers, which are also dismantled.
  6. Lift the hood and disconnect the wiring harness that powers the wiper motor.

RESULTS

If the window regulator does not work, start by finding the cause of the breakdown, and then proceed to fix the problem. Most often, the malfunction can be fixed independently, without the involvement of specialists. This also applies to situations where it is necessary to remove the window regulator for repair or replacement.

Dismantling the old unit

If the electrical elements have been more or less decided, then the mechanical part of the problem is much more complicated. The described VAZ models have non-separable ESP structures. They are characterized as the most reliable, but in case of breakdown they require a complete replacement from the owner.

How the structure is dismantled.

  1. Remove the handle and rod.
  2. Lowering the glass, remove the holder.
  3. The glass is raised to the maximum and secured with tape.
  4. Unscrew all the nuts holding the mechanism to the door.
  5. Dismantling is complete and the device can be completely removed for diagnostics.

Next, you will decide whether to repair or replace with a new device.

Major breakdowns of power windows

Depending on the configuration of the car, it can be equipped with both mechanical (manual) and electric windows. It is from which of these options is installed on your car that you should begin searching for the corresponding faults.

Thus, for manually operated window regulators the following types of damage are most typical:

  • failure of rods (bending of rods when excessive force is applied);
  • jamming of traction joints;
  • spontaneous unwinding and loss of fasteners.

It is quite simple to fix all these malfunctions with your own hands; you just need to correctly dismantle the window regulator and carry out repairs (we will tell you how to remove the device mechanism below).

In turn, if the power windows on a VAZ 2114 do not work, then the possible reasons for this may be:

  • fuse blown (at the same time playing the role of a fog light fuse);
  • failure of relay K5;
  • break in the power supply circuit of the lifts;
  • drive motor burnout.

In this case, you should start your search by checking the fuses designated F5 and F16 (this can be done by replacing them with new ones or by regular “diagnosis”). If the fuses are working, then you should continue to look for the problem; if not, replace them with others designed for the same amperage.

The next thing to check is relay K5 in the power window circuit. To test it, you need to replace it with a known working (new) relay and check the functionality of the device. If a malfunction is detected, the old relay must be replaced.

An indirect, but at the same time, objective way to test virtually any relay is to test it by ear. So, when the power circuit is turned on, the working relay should emit a characteristic click, which indicates its serviceability. If, after applying current, no sound is heard, then the relay has soured and does not work.

The next stage of the test will be to “test” the wires in the power window circuit using a multimeter. If a break is detected, it will be necessary to replace the burnt wire with a new one with the same (or slightly larger) cross-section.

If the wiring is in order, then all that remains is to check the functionality of the electric drive itself. The easiest way to do this is to connect the lift motor to the network “directly”. A failed electric window motor cannot be repaired and must be replaced with a similar one.

If after such a thorough check it is still not possible to find a fault, then you should check the mechanical parts of the electric lift, namely, inspect the condition of its gears. Most often, it is their breakage or chipping/abrasion of individual teeth that causes the malfunction. The solution in this case will be to replace the gears themselves, which can be purchased at almost any auto store.
