Better than nothing: we buy a Lada Granta for 250 thousand

Test drive of the new Lada Granta: let's figure out who this car is for

If you have been to Russia outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg, you probably noticed a huge number of Lada Granta and Kalina. Ultra-budget models from AvtoVAZ have always been held in high esteem in the Russian outback, but in Belarus they are not accepted as readily as, say, the Hyundai Creta or Skoda Rapid. We are located too close to Western Europe and at the height of motorization we brought a lot of high-quality (and not so good) used cars into the country. In other words, the Belarusian is more demanding in terms of comfort, options and, let’s face it, the car brand than his eastern neighbor. This year, the Russians crossed the Granta and Kalina families into one. They called it Granta. The Onliner.by correspondent went to Tolyatti to admire the Zhiguli Mountains, the Volga River and the X-shaped “face” of the new Lada. Now Granta from certain angles can be confused with Vesta!

Price

The first thing that should distinguish a domestic car is its low cost. This opinion is shared by the vast majority of Lada adherents. Since this category includes people who are accustomed to counting every penny, the current price seems to them to be quite overpriced.

In reality, the new Grant has no competitors in terms of cost. It is distinguished by great democracy. Depending on the body type and configuration, now you will have to pay from 420 to 635 thousand rubles for a car.

Like the old Granta, the modern car remains the most affordable of the new ones. The low cost made the entire line a leader in sales in the Russian Federation. However, critics say that since buyers for the most part have low solvency, they do not buy what they like, but a car that they have enough money for.

New Lada Granta: how is it better than the old one?

Does Granta look cool with Vesta's face? Okay, but how is it better than the old one? Let's compare.

In general, Granta has been produced since 2011; the editorial machine rolled off the assembly line in 2012. We paired it with an updated version... or rather, two: with a manual and an automatic. Let's check what has changed in the design and behavior of the machine during its stay on the assembly line.

Buyers of inexpensive cars count every penny and do not want to listen to discussions about rising prices: why do we care that localized components are produced using imported equipment and often from imported raw materials? And how can one not pay attention to the conversations of armchair experts that AVTOVAZ is profiting from consumers and that the red price for Grant is two hundred thousand, maximum two hundred and fifty?

In reality, with a price range from 420,000 to 634,000 rubles, the Granta remains the most affordable new car. As of December last year, the Grant family, with the former Kalinas - hatchback and station wagon - joining its ranks, took first place in sales in Russia. You can slander as much as you like, but the winners are not judged - even if they are not chosen for fat. Heart failure

The pre-restyling editorial Grant ran more than 100,000 km. The eight-valve engine (87 hp) has retained sufficient vigor for driving around the city, which means there will be no problems with it in the new car.

Granta has been produced since 2011; the editorial machine rolled off the production line in 2012. Its engine is the simplest - an eight-valve engine with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group. The only bells and whistles are air conditioning and electric front windows. An excellent option for checking the extent of progress over seven years of life. We pitted two brand new Grants against the editorial worker - a sedan with a manual transmission and a liftback with an automatic transmission.

Granta Westovna has become prettier! The license plate has been moved to the trunk lid, and the stern looks lighter. The combination of a 106-horsepower engine with a manual transmission is the best option for long-distance driving.

We got the liftback (this is the most practical and attractive body in the line) with a Jatco automatic transmission and a 98-horsepower engine. The power unit is good - if you don’t mind paying an extra 55,000-65,000 rubles.

Granta's main problem is its outdated platform. Slurred driving habits, weak steering... You can play with the suspension characteristics, but a miracle will not happen. The restyled car, which has only a couple of thousand on the odometer, has not become any better even compared to the tired editorial sedan, which has more than 100,000 km behind it. The force on the steering wheel is stepped, there is no feedback, the reaction to the rotation of the steering wheel comes late, the rolls are scary. But the incredible energy consumption of the suspension has not gone away: you can drive away without dismantling the road.

Simultaneously with the restyling, AVTOVAZ switched to “plug-in” 1.6 engines. New pistons will no longer come into contact with the valves in the event of a timing belt break. Welcome to the “non-stick”: the editorial sedan showed us the consequences of a broken timing belt. And the point here is not in saving on maintenance, but in the quality of components.

Reliability? It is unlikely that replacing the pistons had any effect on it. The traction and power characteristics have not changed. The basic eight-valve engine with 87 horsepower is surprisingly peppy - it’s enough for the city. If the car is not heavily loaded, it will not fail on the highway. For trips with the whole family and with a full trunk, it is better to take the 16-valve version with 106 hp. - all other things being equal, it is only 15,000 rubles more expensive.

The updated Granta is noticeably quieter, even taking into account the “crickets” that have multiplied in the editorial machine over the years. Improved sound insulation appeared several years ago (our sedan did not get this) - first on cars in top trim levels, and later on all Grants and Kalinas. But restyling also made its contribution. Now there are felt fender liners in the wheel arches, which reduce the level of noise penetrating into the cabin.

Station wagon

The Lada Granta station wagon is also available in a variety of trim levels. It is possible to buy a car with a manual or automatic transmission in trim levels from Standard to Luxe Prestige at prices ranging from 471,900 to 648,800 rubles. The Standard and Classic station wagons only have a manual transmission.

Differences in the cabin

Studying the photo, it is easy to notice that the shape of the center console has become more modern, but otherwise its content has not changed.

The profile of the seats is also different. They look nicer thanks to the two-tone upholstery, but the manufacturer couldn’t do anything about comfort. Many people complain about:

  • lack of lateral support;
  • excessive height;
  • narrowness.

Seat height adjustment is available only in luxury cars, but this option does not particularly save the owner of the Grant. The dashboard of the new car still features dials with symbols arranged in a circle. However, this does not prevent you from easily following the readings. The central display has a modern look and high information content.

Among other things, the modern Grant, as required by law, is equipped with the ERA-GLONASS system. Whether this is an advantage or disadvantage is for the buyers to judge. The light control panel differs only in the absence of a button to unlock the trunk. It is now located on its very lid. As before, there is no separate lamp installed above the rear seat.

The dashboard is distinguished by another not too catchy nuance. There is no longer a cigarette lighter here. Instead, a socket is installed - this innovation will clearly not appeal to smokers.

The old car had an open shelf above the glove box. The new one was equipped with a deep cell instead. This is inconvenient - objects stored there fly out during a sudden start, because they are no longer held by the side.

The window opening levers began to differ - the old one, although it looked plebeian, was convenient. The modern one is too small and unergonomic.

The car doors open too wide, so owners will have to exercise some caution in parking lots. At the same time, locks that are installed on a new car are quieter and rarely jam.

The trunk remained the same in volume and finish. This means that the pile of the coating will wear off in a few years, and the inside of the compartment will lose its attractiveness.

  • Central console of the instrument panel from Lada Kalina
  • Relief elements appeared in the “X” style with LED backlighting of symbols.
  • New instrument cluster with white backlight.
  • New seat design (two-tone upholstery in Vesta style)
  • New seat shape with pronounced lateral support.
  • The height of the driver's seat has now been adjusted: adjustment within a range of 40 mm.
  • Different headrest geometry.
  • New handbrake lever.
  • The ERA-GLONASS system appeared.
  • There is no trunk release button in the cabin, replaced by a plug.
  • The classic cigarette lighter has been replaced by a socket.
  • The manual transmission lever began to be installed from Vesta.
  • The shelf above the glove box became covered with a glove compartment lid.
  • The shape of the interior door handles has changed.
  • Another emblem on the steering wheel.
  • New hood opening handle.
  • A “sport” button has appeared, but only on trim levels with AMT (“robot”).
  • The liftback now has a strap for closing the fifth door.

Lada Granta 2021 has become more modern

The Granta update is immediately noticeable when viewed from the front, but from other angles and in the interior, the results of the work done are not so obvious. There are many differences, although everything was done with little blood. For example, they didn’t spend money on a new dashboard - they took it from the discontinued Kalina with minimal modifications.

VAZ has modernized the gearbox and parking brake levers. The latter, gleaming with bare metal, needed this especially urgently.

The instrument cluster has been updated to match the latest Lada innovations. Granta now has radial digitization and orange accents. The old-fashioned display with a green background has given way to stylish black and white. The interior lighting is LED, and the lampshade is combined with an emergency call button. They didn’t even forget about the seat upholstery - it now has a different pattern. It seems like a trifle, but against its background the pre-restyling Grant seems like an alien from the distant past.

Failure with headlights on Lada Granta 2021

Vesta-style headlights look beautiful, no doubt about it. However, they use lamps with an H19 base. This is exotic even in Moscow, but the lion's share of Grant is distributed throughout the provinces. Where can the owner look for these lamps? In addition, they are noticeably more expensive than the H4, which is sold on every corner and is very familiar to everyone.

In addition to the mistake with the type of lamps, the headlights of the updated Granta have another drawback. They do not shine in the best way, but this is active safety!

Owners of the updated Grant can be consoled by the fact that similarly shaped handles are installed on BMWs of the latest generations - from the relatively affordable “three rubles” to the flagship “X-Seven”.

New model of Lada Granta 2021: when will it be released in Russia, date

The third generation of Lada Granta received the secret name New Generation for a reason. Both the exterior and interior of the model range of the entire family will undergo changes. Key features are as follows:

  • updated optics;
  • aggressive style of the front bumper;
  • the appearance of large honeycombs on the radiator grille;
  • large air ducts;
  • volumetric X-shaped stampings on the side panels;
  • increased tire diameter;
  • exclusive disc pattern.

The new development of a company in the domestic automotive industry is a unique solution. While remaining a traditional representative of the compact class of urban vehicles suitable for maneuvers in a metropolitan area, Granta simultaneously demonstrates good speed performance on highways when using gasoline of at least AI-95 grade. It will be possible to verify the versatility of the machine soon. The manufacturer has not yet announced an exact date, but declares its intentions to launch the production line in 2021.

Oil seals

A separate story was with the seals. On old Grants, all the oil seals that were installed on the car leaked.

Here are some of them:

  1. On wheel drives.
  2. On the gearbox input shaft.
  3. Front and rear crankshaft oil seals.
  4. Camshaft seals.
  5. On the gear selection rod on 12 gearboxes with a traction drive shift.

It was a rare case that the engine and gearbox remained dry. Basically there was always an oil leak somewhere. The situation changed dramatically for the better when Freudenberg Teflon oil seals began to be installed. The defect rate for these seals is almost zero. Therefore, at the moment, leakage defects on new Grants are an extremely rare case.

Gearboxes

This is a sore subject, as for a long time there were a huge number of complaints about noise from the gearbox. The howl was really pronounced and annoying. The main responsibility for gearbox noise lies with the final drive. It works constantly, and the largest gear is in its mesh.

The new Lada Granta has a main gear with a gear ratio of 3.9; the old model had 3.7. This made it possible to improve the dynamics of the car to some extent and reduce noise from the gearbox. Now there are significantly fewer complaints from car owners about noise from the gearbox.

At one time there was a common defect - a crunching sound when shifting gears from 1 to 2. The culprits were the synchronizer rings, namely their coating, which burned out. When AvtoVAZ released a new cable-driven gearbox, things weren’t going smoothly with it at first either.

There were frequent complaints about strong vibrations transmitted to the shift lever when driving in 3-4 gears. This problem has been dealt with for a long time; there have been a number of ineffective methods for eliminating the defect.

As a result, the situation was resolved by installing three modernized components:

  1. Gear shift cables.
  2. Switching mechanism.
  3. Brackets for fastening cables.

A separate story was with the bearings of the primary and secondary shafts of the gearbox. They hummed and made a small knock when the transmission was operating. At that time, domestic bearings were installed, which did not have a long service life. The percentage of defects for them was high. As in the case of oil seals, the situation changed dramatically for the better when we switched from domestic bearings to imported SKF ones.

Separately about the engine

The updated model of the Grant family received an 8-valve power unit with a volume of 1.6 liters. A new connecting rod and piston group is used here. In addition, the engine received a modernized crankshaft and gas distribution mechanism.

As a result of such design changes, engine power increased to 90 horsepower. Thanks to this, 80% of the torque became available at a speed of 1000 rpm. Such innovations can significantly reduce the frequency of gear shifts and significantly reduce fuel consumption.

The motor of the updated model is more durable and unpretentious. For example, here there is no longer any need to adjust the valves until the mileage reaches 90,000 kilometers.

What has changed in the technical part?

Engineers claim that the Granta's handling has become better and this was achieved by adjusting the suspension and power steering. But in practice, things are more ordinary, the difference with the pre-Restyle is minimal.

The platform itself is outdated and the settings cannot be changed: unclear steering, large rolls when turning - this will remain so until the transition to a new platform.

There has been a positive change in engines; in Grant they began to use plugless pistons. After all, previously, even with timely replacement of the timing belt, the owner could not rely on the quality of the purchased spare parts, and a broken belt threatened to cost a lot of money on repairs.

In the base we have a good old eight-valve engine with a power of 87 hp, but by paying a small amount you can get a 16-valve, 106-horsepower engine, and with such an engine the Grant will accelerate in 10.5 seconds, which is a pretty good indicator.

1.6l. (87 hp) / 1.6 l. (98 hp) 1.6 l. (106 hp)

The Grant is equipped with a robotic transmission, a manual transmission and an automatic transmission from Jatco . The automatic transmission is paired with a 98-horsepower engine, and although the number of cars sold with automatic transmission is minimal, it is a decent option, suitable for urban driving.

As for the manual transmission, there are no special changes here, yes, the presence of a cable reduces vibrations, but the sound from the box has not changed, it still howls and hums.

When it comes to sound insulation and comfort, it’s not all that simple. Noise insulation has become better at the level of the same Koreans, but the degree of noise and vibration is very high, vibration is an integral companion of the Lada Granta, it is everywhere, both in motion and at idle.

Why is the modern Lada Granta more attractive than the old one?

Granta has been mass produced since 2011. So the first cars are already more than 8 years old. The older representatives of the line were equipped with 8-valve engines, and today they still maintain satisfactory performance. The new base cars have the same 87-horsepower unit, which means it will last a long time.

The motor has decent endurance and is quite suitable for city streets. What is important is that the new car, provided that it is not overloaded, will perform well on the track.

Large families accustomed to traveling in their own vehicles are recommended to buy a Granta with a 16-valve engine and a power of 106 horsepower. There won’t be much overpayment – the difference is only 15 thousand.

The power plant has received a new ability. It is known that when the timing belt breaks, damage to the valves often occurs (the pistons crush them). In the new one, this defect has been eliminated, and, therefore, nothing bad will happen in the described situation.

The general innovations are:

  • the equipment has become universal for all existing Grant bodies;
  • automatic transmissions are installed on both “Comfort” and “Lux” class cars;
  • in top versions a stabilization system appeared.

Condition of the Lada Granta a year after purchase

Let's start with a review of the car's appearance, interior and exterior. Below I publish several photos of my Granta.

The problem of chipping on the paintwork of the Lada Granta

From a distance, everything seems very good, but if you look closer, there are a large number of small chips in the paintwork in many places, especially in the front part of the hood, fenders and front bumper. They appear all the time.

I don’t blame the manufacturer for this, because a large number of chips is a characteristic imprint of the use of a car in our region. The fact is that in winter, as a de-icing coating, we use not a mixture of sand with reagents, but screenings. Screenings are waste from rock processing. We have heaps of this “good”, so they sprinkle it everywhere. This is what he looks like.

Now it’s easy to imagine how these “bullets” fly out from under the wheels of oncoming cars passing by and “attack” your car. Of course, I try to touch up the chips, but they appear again and again.

The only way out of the situation is to reserve a car immediately after purchase, at least partially, the most “attacked” places. I didn’t do this right away, now I need to specifically choose the time to prepare the place for the “armor”, namely, to tint and polish all the places where the film will be glued. Last summer I didn’t get around to doing it, let’s hope that this summer everything will work out.

Lada Granta door handles - what's wrong with them

As for the interior, my only complaint is against the manufacturer, and here it is.

Everyone knows that the paint on door handles begins to peel off literally the next day after purchase. It is torn off with wedding rings, which many passengers have on their right hands. Why paint them then? Pay attention to the gloss that has formed under the stripped paint during use. Interestingly, there are no scratches from the rings, just gloss. So I’m thinking, maybe I don’t need to stick any film on the door handles, but just remove the paint and polish the plastic. Let him shine. I'll probably do that.

Quest: catch a cricket in the Lada Granta interior

Another point is the creaking of the interior in the area of the side pillars.

I would call this squeak “temperature”, since it does not always appear, but often depends on the ambient temperature or when the car interior warms up to a certain temperature. The creaking is very strong, the brain begins to endure it already in the first minutes of its “serenade”. It seems as if the car body has been “shaken to zero” and the plastic parts of the body trim begin to rub against each other, emitting a unique symphony of creaking sounds. At such moments you just want to jump out of the car. Fortunately, this “sore” of Granta is curable, and in a separate article I will describe in detail the process of life-saving “treatment.”

Specifications

The new Lada Granta, the presentation of which is expected in 2021, will differ significantly from the previous model in technical terms. It is known that the 3rd generation will be based on the Global Access platform. Most likely, the new Granta 2021 will take a lot from Renault Logan and Lada X-Code. One thing is obvious - the dimensions of the model will increase, which means the interior will become more spacious.

Among the expected innovations:

  • improved steering system;
  • modified chassis;
  • new rear brakes;
  • parking brake with an innovative self-release system.

The power units will most likely remain the same, with three variations in power - 8-valve power units with 87 or 98 hp and a 16-valve power unit with 106 hp. Included with the motors will be offered:

  • classic 5-speed manual;
  • 4-speed automatic;
  • modern 5-speed robot.

Also, connoisseurs of the brand hope that the new 2021 Grant will receive improved passive and active safety indicators. Let us recall that the previous model in the basic configuration received only 2 stars out of 5 possible (8.4 out of 16 points) in the case of a frontal impact, and in the maximum configuration - 3 stars (10.7 points). For domestic cars this is the maximum result, but it is clearly not enough to enter the European market.

Dimensions and main parameters:

  1. Body dimensions – 4268 x 1700 x 1482 mm.
  2. Wheelbase – 2476 mm.
  3. Ground clearance – 147 mm.
  4. Number of places – 5.
  5. Vehicle weight – 1185 kg.
  6. Permissible total weight – 1560 kg.
  7. The volume of the fuel tank is 50 liters.
  8. Trunk volume in the Sedan body is 520 liters, in the 5-door Hatchback body – from 240 to 550 liters, in the Liftback body – from 435 to 750 liters; in the station wagon body - from 360 to 675 liters.

Since the new model will receive a number of significant technical improvements and modern technological solutions, the price of the 2021 Lada Granta will most likely be slightly higher than the cost of a sedan or 2nd generation liftback.

The assembly of lines for the production of the new chassis has already been completed, but the new Lada Granta will arrive in car dealerships closer to the winter of 2021 or even at the beginning of 2022.

Main engines

As the main engines, AvtoVAZ offers customers a choice of the power units already mentioned just above. Let's talk about each of them separately.

VAZ-11183-50

The eight-valve VAZ-11183-50 engine is an improved VAZ-2111 with a power of 82 hp, which is installed on Grant sedans and hatchbacks. The work carried out to improve the unit has increased its environmental friendliness and reliability, the level of engine torque and its elasticity have significantly increased.

The disadvantages of the VAZ-11183-50 include increased noise and the need to adjust the valves from time to time. In addition, this motor may not warm up to the required temperature due to a malfunction of the thermostat (the thermostat in such a situation must be replaced).

In addition, instability in the operation of the motor is often observed, for which there may be several reasons. For example, such instability is often associated with the burnout of one of the valves, with a violation of the integrity of the gasket, or with a malfunction of the ignition module. However, bending of the valves due to a broken timing belt will not occur.

Better than nothing: we buy a Lada Granta for 250 thousand

Of course, they are right in some ways - serial Zhigulis, and later Ladas, have always been a compromise between the desire of designers to keep up with the times and the reality around us in the form of domestic electronics flying only into space, rubber suitable only for soldier’s boots, and asphalt roads , ending immediately outside the Moscow Ring Road. So it turns out that Lada’s main trump card in the fight against budget foreign cars is the price. Well, with Granta it turned out to be quite interesting: here you can even buy a car with an automatic transmission for “kopecks”, and if you strain a little more, you can even buy one with an AMT (that’s what they call a “robot” at VAZ). True, you shouldn’t do the latter. Especially if the car costs 250 thousand.

What and where are we looking for?

There is always a lot of Grant on sale - after all, it is one of the best-selling models in the country... Since the release of the Grant began only in 2011, we do not have to deal with rusty sills and arches rotten through. At least in theory. Well, what are we going to watch then?

Since Grant's buyers are practical people, they quickly realized which engine would suit whom best. In total, Granta had four different engines: VAZ-11183-50 (82 hp), VAZ-21116 (87 hp), VAZ-21126 (98 hp) and VAZ-21127 (106 hp) . Which one is better to choose a car with? Everything here is conditional: they have approximately the same service life, there is also no fundamental difference in dynamics, although according to the passport, the fastest “brings” almost 2 seconds to the slowest one when accelerating to 100 km/h. Owners Grant and Kalin will confirm this for you. Of course, the VAZ 11183, which is on the Grant in the “Standard” configuration and was inherited from Kalina, makes the car slow. But this is the simplest eight-valve engine with cheap maintenance. Even if the timing belt breaks, the valves do not meet the pistons. But he is noisy. The second engine is a little more interesting, and despite the very slight difference in power, it drives noticeably better. It is also eight-valve, but if the timing belt breaks, not only will the valves be bent, but with a high probability the pistons will also crack - this is the consequence of installing a lightweight piston group.

Articles / Used cars Anything is possible: we buy a Renault Logan l with mileage for 250 thousand. The first generation Logan is a unique car. Reliable as a cast iron ball, scary as a nuclear war, but at the same time almost ideal for budget transportation of your loved one from point A to... 28026 20 1 06/15/2018

The sixteen-valve VAZ-21126 engine with a power of 98 hp is well known from the Priors. This is probably the best option for the Grant: it has good dynamics, a reduced tax (up to 100 hp), and it works much quieter than eight-valve engines. To some, the latter seems unimportant, but keep in mind that Granta does not have “Shumka” as a class.

The latest VAZ-21127 engine is installed on Grants and Kalina-2s. It doesn’t make much sense: a tax for 106 hp. more than 98 (and this is usually important for Grant owners), and the dynamics are almost the same as with the previous VAZ-21126.

By and large, you can buy a car with any of these engines. There are no absolutely bad ones, but they will all require attention with a mileage of 200 thousand, so it is better to find a car with minimal mileage.

Another thing is gearboxes. There are three of them on Grants: manual, automatic transmission and “robot”.

If you need a car on a stick, it is better to look for a car manufactured after November 2015. Then some changes were made to the manual transmission (cable drive, updated synchronizers for first and second gears), which had a better effect on the operation of the box. If you don’t have enough money for such a new car, you will have to put up with not very clear switching and the gearbox hum that is traditional for VAZs.

The automatic transmission on Grant is often criticized. Like, some kind of ancient unit, stupid and archaic. Actually this is not true. Yes, this gearbox has only four stages, but this is the Jatco version modernized just in 2011, which is also found on the Nissan Note, for example. This automatic transmission has a very good service life and has no obvious problems. But fuel consumption with this automatic transmission will not please you: in traffic jams in large cities it is easy to get a consumption of 13 and 14 liters per hundred. This is such a price to pay for a proven and reliable design and the low cost of the box.

Well, if you don’t want to overpay for gasoline, you can look at cars with a “robot”. So much has been said about VAZ AMTs that I won’t go into depth: they have a not very successful operating algorithm and problems with the clutch in early versions. To be fair, all this is familiar from most “robots”, but, for example, the latest DSG can be forgiven for their almost impeccable “speed”, which cannot be said about the 2182. Considering our small budget, we will not look at cars with AMT: there won’t be enough money. And if there is enough, then only for a very rickety car, which we don’t need and for nothing. So, let's go!

High definition car

The announcement for the sale of this car is very encouraging about the year of manufacture - 2015. Almost fresh! Mileage - 80 thousand kilometers, price - 249 thousand rubles, one owner. The numbers are, one might say, ideal. But the car is not.

It's immediately obvious that the owner of this car played Need for Speed as a child. So, what is immediately visible is a crack in the windshield and a strange-looking headlight. And they upset us not only with their appearance. They have xenon. I won’t even say anything about its country of origin... So, the traffic police inspectors love to wave their striped batons about this, take away the license and stop registering the car. This is not practiced in all regions, but in some places it occurs very often. In addition, problems may arise with re-registering the car to the new owner.

Let's now see how this xenon was installed in the Grant headlight.

Typically, broken headlight mounts indicate that the car has been in an accident. In our case, numerous hypotheses can be made about the reasons for the broken fastening. Firstly, it is clear that they did not work very carefully here: there is sealant sticking out along the seam, which they later even tried to remove, but only ruined the entire seam with it. It may well be that the “specialist” who did this broke the fastening. But there is also “secondly”.

There is a thick layer of putty on the right fender right next to the headlight. So the likelihood that the car was in an accident, after which the headlight mount was broken, becomes at least high.

Well, now let's look at the car from behind.

The shagreen is not visible in the photograph; not everyone can even notice it with the naked eye. But the trunk lid and rear bumper of the car have been repainted. True, without putty - the thickness of the paintwork is everywhere within 300 microns. Most likely, these parts were installed new and then painted to match the body color. A good reason to stick to this version is the complete absence of a “broom” on the car - a rear windshield wiper blade. Nobody just throws it away, but sometimes they don’t install it after a body repair. I would like to note that the body repair was of poor quality.

It is noticeable in the photo that the wheel is too deep into the arch. Yes, there are non-standard short-stroke shock absorbers and slightly trimmed springs. Of course, with such a set of “tuning” Grant is transformed, if not into a Delta Integral, then at least into a GTI.

While I was crawling on my knees, I noticed an interesting feature - a rusty exhaust system. Let VAZ not be offended, but for a 2015 car the picture is sad.

And another sign of... how should I put it... a “sports” car is a very negative camber: look at the tires.

And as usual with real racers, tuning was so expensive that there was no longer enough money for new tires.

Opening the door to the salon, I expected to see sports buckets instead of seats. But here the design idea went in a different direction. Somewhere towards “lukhuri”.

Cheap leatherette covers in hot weather are a very, very dubious pleasure. And they hardly look nobler than a “rag.” But I note that there is no significant wear on the controls, so the mileage is most likely original. And, in principle, it suits the year.

True, not only the seats became a victim of interior tuning. Let's pay attention to the body pillar.

It’s not entirely clear where the paint went from it - there are no traces of repainting or putty. She got off on her own, or what? But this is not the main thing. Of interest is the gap between the stand and the plastic cover. Here the owner tried to solve one of the generic problems of Granta - the lack of sound insulation. The entire interior is covered with Shumka, but it was done “to hell with” (if you know what I mean). Ugly and sloppy.

If you think that the design genius spared the engine, you are greatly mistaken.

Some unusual color of the oil filler cap seems to hint at the racing nature of the car. Well, if you look deeper, where the phone camera cannot reach, then you can find a brutal “spider” there - the exhaust manifold. It’s downright strange to see the muffler canister below - there should be a “direct flow” from a simple pipe of considerable diameter. Maybe I just haven’t gotten around to it yet...

In passing, we notice chips on the hood that have already begun to rust.

By the way, the engine works well. But a decently beaten “cramp” is no longer interesting to us. Let's move on.

And yet she goes!

The next car was released in 2014, the mileage (in the ad) is 69 thousand, they are asking 230 thousand rubles for it. And as soon as we see him, a thousand suspicions immediately arise in us.

Pay attention to the gaps in the hood, headlights and front fenders.

Do you notice that the fender protrudes forward, and the headlights and bumper look like they are pressed into the car? These are the typical consequences of a low-quality attempt to extend the side members after a frontal impact. You don't even need a thickness gauge here, just open the hood.

Here you can see non-factory connections between the body iron and the headlights. If you don’t know what they look like from the factory, before viewing, look at a car that is known to be undamaged.

Well, attempts to straighten them are very clearly visible on the side members. And the attempts, I must say, were not very successful.

In addition, there is a new cooling fan. It is changed after a strong frontal impact. Just like the radiator itself.

Now let's look at the rest of the body. A dent on the door is not as bad as what we have already seen, but it is also unpleasant.

There is another one, but a little smaller, on the trunk lid.

In general, a thickness gauge is no longer needed here, but just for fun, we measure the entire car. Both front fenders and hood were repainted.

The car can’t boast of anything good in the interior either. Granta cannot boast of it in principle, and here it is also dirty with some very unpleasant covers.

There hasn't been any cleaning done here, probably since birth. Or since the accident. Okay, this can all be cleaned and put in order. But after starting the engine to the car, another question arises: why does the “check” light come on?

The owner says it started burning almost immediately after purchase. As diagnostics showed, “some sensor is not working, but it does not affect the speed.” If you drive a little and see that the speedometer is also not working, then you can assume that it is the speed sensor that is not working. But this, of course, needs to be understood through diagnostics. So far we see that the speedometer needle is hanging, and the “check” is on. And it's sad.

And also look at the odometer. The ad states 69 thousand, here it is almost 75. The ad was submitted on June 19, we looked at the car on July 19. That is, in exactly one month the car passed six thousand. We get 72 thousand a year. Over four years (taking into account the 2014 year of production) - 288 thousand. Just in case, we generously divide by two, it still turns out to be 144 thousand, that is, twice as much as promised. Maybe that's why the salon looks so sad?

Taking into account everything we have seen, we can say that this car is not suitable for us. There are a lot of things that need to be worked out, the mileage is questionable, and then it will be difficult to sell a damaged car with such a very mediocre restoration. Although, of course, there will be a buyer for everything, if only there was time and patience.

They saved on everything here. We drove for several years with a “hanging” error, it was poorly restored after an accident, this Grant was even deprived of a car wash. Also, pay attention to the wheels.

Once upon a time it was a “spike”. But it’s plus thirty outside now...

Almost succeeded

Honestly, I don’t know what to say about the next car. It seems like a great option - 2015 with a mileage of only 14,800 km. The price looks very tempting - 255 thousand (we’ll immediately throw away five thousand for the auction, so we’ll most likely have enough money for it).

The entire car is in its original paint.

The only paint chip is visible on the front left pillar.

The interior is clean, there are not even signs of wear on the pedals. There is some kind of braid on the steering wheel. Let's try to remove it.

This is 15 thousand mileage? I beg you! This is closer to a hundred minimum. However, this was the last photo I managed to take. Then the seller decided that “there would be no show” and asked me to leave the salon and go somewhere far away. I probably shouldn't have smiled.

Articles / America Come on, hurry up: we are buying a Ford Focus ll with mileage for 300 thousand Ford Focus is the first mass-produced “Russian” foreign car, and in the 2000s it was the most desirable alternative to domestic cars. The second generation Focus confidently continued to storm the heights of technology... 22364 8 9 07/02/2018

Of course, it would be nice to take a photo of the VIN and then check it against some open database. This way you can see a lot of interesting things, and something tells me that the history of this Grant is more dramatic than the Russian period of the first half of the twentieth century. But the seller had already begun to threaten, and since a fight with the stern salesman was not part of my plans, I had to hastily retreat.

To be honest, I have never seen anyone being so clever with domestic cars. I have seen very well restored foreign cars, but it really makes sense to tinker with them: some fresh “changeover” can be bought for pennies, put in a new tin and resold for a good profit. But Granta... Maybe she really just rode in a taxi, after which they made a mess inside and are trying to sell it to a blind buyer. The pedal covers cost pennies, but then why not replace the steering wheel as well? It's also inexpensive here. In a word, I am sure that under the guise of this car they are trying to sell a car with much higher mileage and a dark history. And this is enough to refuse the purchase.

Summing up

We were unable to quickly find a worthy Grant. They are very popular among fans of collective farm “tuning”, among those who are learning to drive this car or, in principle, doing it extremely poorly, as well as among taxi drivers. We at Automama encounter this car regularly, especially in Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don. We are interested in the car, so we have seen almost everything - from outright rubbish to very decent cars. Recently a guy came to us who was selling a 2012 Granta and wanted to get 280 thousand for it. We carry out an inspection and understand that the seller asked for a very optimistic amount.

Here it was enough to open the driver's door. There is no rubber around the perimeter of the door arch, the doorway and the pillar are somehow crooked, as if they tried to stretch it all out, but it quickly became boring.

Let's look inside: and the steering wheel... Typical consequences of the braid. There is no smell of 157 thousand kilometers here. But it smells like something else. For example, a fired airbag.

And here is another interesting feature of this car. Pay attention to the carpet under the driver's seat. It is shifted to the right, and the protrusion under the left leg itself looks strange. After digging around a little more, we understand that this is exactly the place where Grant was collected after the accident. Here the seller’s enthusiasm drops sharply from 280 thousand to 220. But we still didn’t take it.

Of course, this does not mean that there are no good cars. It’s just that you need to approach the choice of a budget Grant no less seriously than choosing a popular foreign car. Perhaps even increase the budget. For example, recently in Moscow we sold a 2014 Granta with a 1.6 engine (98 hp) with an automatic transmission. The original mileage is 72 thousand, good equipment with power windows, alloy wheels and a radio. The only damage is chips on the sills. The car was offered for 285 thousand rubles. She left quickly, as she was really in good condition.
