VAZ 2115 engine oil

The subcompact car Samara-2 (or VAZ 2115) became the direct heir to the Samara family and a kind of restyling of the 21099 sedan. The model was introduced in 1997 and differed from its predecessor in a slightly redesigned body, namely, changes in its rear part. The VAZ 2115 has become more streamlined and received a new front panel that no longer creaks like previous models of the 9th family. At the same time, changes were initially planned not only to the appearance, but also to other components: the brake system, transmission and suspension. However, the manufacturer subsequently abandoned this idea and borrowed almost all the components from Samara-1. The production of the “tag” continued until 2012, after which its place was taken by the more modern Lada Granta.

The Samara-2 engine line is represented by a 1.5 liter (72 hp) carburetor unit, an injection engine of the same volume, but with a power of 79 hp, as well as a 1.6 liter (81 hp) unit in the same variations. After 2007, the model was equipped only with a 1.6 liter engine. In terms of dynamics, the engines were not much different from those installed in other VAZ models. The release of the VAZ 2115 was carried out simultaneously with the release of the “Ten” and the VAZ 21099. Required Tools

Before carrying out work, you need to check the availability of the following materials and tools:

  • fresh oil in an amount of at least 3.5 liters;
  • funnel for pouring (usually a cut neck from a plastic bottle is used);
  • oil filter and plug ring;
  • an empty container with a volume of at least 3.5 liters, this could be an old oil canister or bucket;
  • a rag for wiping off drops of lubricant;
  • gloves;
  • chain puller for the old filter;
  • any key size 17 mm, 19 mm or hex 12 mm;
  • A set of keys with different sizes is desirable, since the car may have protection for the engine tray and gearbox.

Algorithm of actions

Before changing the oil, it is necessary to warm it up. Depending on the air temperature, this will require driving about 10–15 kilometers. Then you should drive the car into a garage or onto a lift, since the surface on which the car will be installed must be horizontal. After this, you can begin servicing.

To change the oil and filter, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Open the oil filler plug located on the head cover.
  2. Remove the protective shields from the engine.
  3. Wipe the power unit crankcase in the area of ​​the drain cover with a rag.
  4. Pull the plug out of place and carefully unscrew it by hand almost to the end.
  5. If drops of oil appear, place a container for drainage, sharply unscrew the last turn of the plug and move it to the side. It is important not to pour hot oil on your hands.
  6. Drain the liquid, this will take at least 15 minutes.
  7. Remove the old filter located on the side of the engine crankcase. It can come by hand or be difficult to move with a key. If there is no key, the device is pierced closer to the top with a screwdriver and, using it as a lever, the old part is unscrewed. It must be remembered that the filter contains up to 0.15 liters of hot oil.
  8. Wipe the plug and hole in the pan and, putting on a new ring, install the part in place.
  9. Pour oil into the new filter housing (to the middle), apply a thin layer of lubricant to the ring that serves to seal the joint.
  10. Wipe the sealing surface on the crankcase and screw in the filter by hand. There is no need to pull the device, since it will be very difficult to remove it during the next replacement.
  11. Then you can pour fresh oil through the neck.
  12. After adding 3 liters of fluid, you need to let the lubricant drain into the pan. Then check the oil level and add if necessary.
  13. Start the engine, and the system pressure lamp should light for 2-3 seconds and go out. If this does not happen, then a low-quality filter is installed. Then it will have to be changed again. Prolonged operation of the unit at idle speed with the pressure lamp on is unacceptable.
  14. After a few minutes of operation, you need to turn off the engine and check the fluid level in the internal combustion engine system; it should be in the middle between the marks on the dipstick rod.

Types of oil

  • Mineral oil is the thickest oil, not adapted to winter conditions. It can be used for VAZ-2115 with high mileage, as well as when there is a lack of funds for more expensive and high-quality oil
  • Synthetic is the most modern lubricant today. Excellent resistance to low temperatures, as well as difficult road situations. This is the most fluid and liquid oil that never hardens in the winter season. At the same time, synthetics are also poured in the summer. And yet, in terms of price-quality ratio, this option is less preferable for the VAZ-2115
  • Semi-synthetic is the best option for the VAZ-2115 in terms of price and quality. This oil is definitely worse than expensive synthetics, but at the same time, it is several times superior to cheap mineral oil. Semi-synthetics are the best choice for the VAZ-2115.

Pavel, Irkutsk. I have an 81-horsepower version of the VAZ-2115. In my opinion, the car looks stylish and old-school even to this day. The strict design of narrowed headlights, coupled with the missing radiator grille, creates a sporty image. The angular shapes do not at all spoil the understated silhouette of the sedan, which also has a groovy character. There is a stiffer suspension with shortened springs, since I often drive on a country chassis, and I don’t need any extra roll. As a result, directional stability has improved, the steering has become sharper and cornering stability has increased.

Boris, Taganrog. I drive a VAZ-2115 2010. I am the third owner, I have driven 34 thousand in three years, for a total mileage of 138 thousand km. My configuration has electric windows and a hydraulic booster, but it is of no use - the steering wheel is still empty, and there is almost no effort even with increasing speed. 80 horses are quite economical, there is plenty of them for city traffic, and the consumption of the AI-92 is within 10-11 liters.
