Everything you need to know about the idle speed regulator (sensor) of the VAZ 2107
Drivers often call the IAC sensor an idle speed sensor, which is completely wrong.
The sensor “takes” readings and displays them on the screen (or device), and the regulator directly controls the operation of the engine. However, he is a sinner and I often call him that out of habit. Typically, injection sevens have an IAC with article number 2112-1148300-04 (the last digit is the IAC version).
The idle speed sensor is installed on the injection VAZ 2107 in the lower part of the throttle valve on the right. You won't be able to replace it with a new one without removing it, but you will have to disassemble it a little. But more on that below, but first let’s look at the signs of a malfunction. Although I note that it is still possible not to remove the damper if you have a special screwdriver.
Tools and equipment for work
To carry out maintenance work you will need:
- A set of standard keys;
- Screwdrivers;
- Pliers;
- Rags;
- Carburetor cleaner (“Carb Cleaner” or equivalent);
This is interesting: Installing the actuator
You will also need a repair kit for the carburetor. Various types of repair kits are available, some of which include only gaskets, while others include all parts (jets, screws, emulsion tubes, etc.). It is better to purchase a complete set.
Since the carburetor consists of many small parts, disassembling it into its component parts, washing and troubleshooting and tuning is carried out in stages so as not to lose sight of anything.
Do-it-yourself IAC replacement
The IAC needs to be cleaned, and if that doesn’t help, then change it. If it is necessary to replace the idle speed sensor of a VAZ 2107, then even a novice car enthusiast can cope with this procedure.
Tools and materials
For the procedure you will need the following tools:
To check the functionality of the regulator, you will need a voltmeter. The IAC is located on the throttle valve. The voltage is measured at the contacts. If it is below 12 V, then there is a malfunction in the control unit or in the power circuit. If the voltage is 12 V, then the regulator is faulty.

Stages
The idle speed regulator on the VAZ 2107, located on the DZ, changes along with its body.
The procedure itself consists of the following steps:
Thus, replacing the idle speed sensor on a VAZ 2107 is completed (video author - Ovsiuk).
Checking the electro-pneumatic valve control unit.
You will find the control unit for the EPHH electro-pneumatic valve on the left mudguard in the engine compartment.
Gradually increase engine speed. At engine speeds of 1500–2000 rpm, the voltmeter readings will drop abruptly to 0.5–1.5 V or the warning light will go out.
We replace the faulty unit with a new one, for this...
4. ...disconnect the connector...
5. ...and use a screwdriver to unscrew the two screws securing the block to the mudguard. Next, we install the new EPHH block in reverse order.
How to install the unit in place
You can assemble and reinstall the carburetor in the same way as you disassembled it, performing all the steps in reverse order.
- The carburetor is installed in its place, the mounting bolts are tightened.
- The pipes through which fuel is supplied are attached. The gas cable is connected to the throttle lever.
- The wiring is attached.
- A vacuum hose is connected to the ignition distributor, and the EPHH limit switches are combined.
- After installing the carburetor, it is adjusted.
Comments and reviews
The instructions for replacing the DXX are correct, and the video, of course, is all simple, a screwdriver and a python, in short, you can’t get there with a screwdriver.
I dug up information on IAC. The signs are exactly like mine!
The idle speed regulator is a device that is necessary in the system to stabilize the idle speed of the engine.
While the engine is idling, by changing the flow area of the additional air supply channel, bypassing the closed throttle valve, the amount of air necessary for its stable operation enters the engine. This air is taken into account by the mass air flow sensor (MAF) and, in accordance with its quantity, the controller supplies fuel to the engine through the fuel injectors.
When the engine is warmed up to operating temperature, the controller maintains idle speed. If the engine is not warmed up, the controller increases the speed using the idle speed regulator and, thus, ensures warming up of the engine at increased crankshaft speeds.
This operating mode allows you to start driving the car immediately without warming up the engine. The idle air control is an actuator and its self-diagnosis is not provided for in the system.
Therefore, if the idle speed control malfunctions, the “CHECK ENGINE” lamp does not light up. Symptoms of malfunctions of the idle speed controller are in many ways similar to malfunctions of the TPS (throttle position sensor), but in the second case, most often the “CHECK ENGINE” lamp clearly indicates a malfunction of the TPS.
The following symptoms can be attributed to malfunctions of the idle air regulator:
Adjusting the throttle drive
If this drive is incorrectly configured, the car's engine response drops and acceleration dynamics deteriorate. The setup is done with an assistant.
You will need the following tools: a screwdriver, an 8-mm open-end wrench, a flashlight, a ruler or a caliper.
- Turn down the “choke” (air damper drive) completely.
- Have your assistant press the gas pedal all the way to the floor. The throttle valve will open completely, as shown in the picture below, you can shine a flashlight into the first chamber. When you release the pedal, the damper should completely close the first chamber without any gaps. If there are gaps, then proceed to the next step.
- Next, we measure the length of the rod with a caliper; it should be exactly 8 cm. To adjust the length of the rod to the required size, rotate the tips by unscrewing the lock nuts.
After all these operations have been completed, put the rod in place and repeat the check. Nowadays, rods are made of low-quality plastic, which shrinks over time. Therefore, you need to check the operation of the traction after a week or two.
We looked at all the ways to adjust the carburetor yourself. We hope this article helped you, if you have any questions, ask them in the comments and we will definitely answer.
Adjusting the idle speed of carburetors 2105, 2107 Ozone and their modifications is one of the most frequently performed operations in carburetor maintenance. As a result, it is necessary to achieve stable engine operation at a crankshaft speed of 850-900 rpm, as well as to normalize the content of CO and CH in the exhaust gases. If the idle speed is adjusted incorrectly, the engine may start and immediately stall, it may stall, during acceleration there may be a “failure”, and during operation there will be increased fuel consumption.
Tools required for adjusting XX speed
— tachometer (you can use the one built into the instrument panel) — slotted screwdriver (3 mm) If you don’t have a tachometer, you can adjust the idle speed by ear. But for this you must have at least some experience in car repair, since it is necessary to distinguish when the speed is normal and when it is increased or decreased.
Preparatory work
Before making adjustments, you must first make sure that the ignition timing is set correctly. The distributor cover, breaker contacts, armored wire and spark plugs are in good condition.
If the carburetor is after disassembly and reassembly or you simply need to set the initial value of the adjustment screws, then first tighten them completely, and then turn out the “quality” screw by 2-3 turns, and the “quantity” screw by 3-4.
— Warm up the engine to operating temperature (85-95 ). — With the engine stopped, connect the tachometer and start it again.
procedure for connecting an autotester (tachometer)
Adjusting the idle speed of an engine with a carburetor 2105, 2107 Ozone We carry out the adjustment in four stages.
1. Turn the “quality” screw and set the maximum idle speed.
Rotate the screw counterclockwise.
turn the “quality” screw of the fuel mixture of the carburetor 2105, 2107 Ozone counterclockwise, thereby increasing the supply of gasoline to the fuel-air mixture
For example, 80 rpm more. Rotate the screw counterclockwise.
rotate the “amount” screw of the fuel mixture counterclockwise, increasing the total amount of fuel mixture entering the engine cylinders
3. We check with the “quality” screw whether these revolutions are the maximum for the given position of the “quantity” screw.
Simply rotating it back and forth.
We check by rotating the “quality” screw in different directions whether the set idle speed is maximum
If not, then we carry out the above adjustments again.
4. Keeping the position of the “quantity” screw of the fuel mixture unchanged, tighten the “quality” screw so much that the speed drops to 850-900 rpm.
Adjustment in this way is very simple, but at the same time convenient, since it does not require special equipment. Notes and additions
If, after such an adjustment, the content of CO and CH emissions does not correspond to the norm or the idle speed cannot be adjusted, then it is necessary to check:
— In some cases, it makes sense to modify the carburetor idle system. See “Modification of the idle system of Solex and Ozone carburetors.”

Idling is a mode of engine operation in which there is no load on the crankshaft. It is necessary to maintain the combustion of a minimum amount of fuel so that the engine does not stall and the battery does not have to be used to restart. Unstable idle speed leads to the engine stalling or running intermittently, so periodically adjusting the idle speed on the VAZ 2107 (carburetor) is required. Today you will find out why there is no idle speed on a VAZ 2107 car with a carburetor and how to adjust it.

Setting idle speed on a VAZ 2107
Unstable operation of the carburetor engine
The nature of the unstable speed of the VAZ2107/2105 engine with carburetors is the same as that of an injection engine, in the uncontrolled supply of air or fuel into the combustion chamber.
But in this case, the carburetor is responsible for preparing the combustible mixture. This is a completely mechanical device that is responsible for the optimal ratio of fuel to oxygen for different operating modes of the power unit.
Despite the fact that there are filters at the fuel and air inlets, they may not work efficiently, usually due to a long service life exceeding that specified in the maintenance standards. As a result, the carburetor jets become clogged with small particles.
Drivers with great experience do not stand on ceremony, they throw the VAZ 2107/2105 carburetor into a bucket of gasoline for a day, then blow it out from all sides with compressed air and the carburetor seems to work normally. This solution is questionable if the carburetor is very dirty.
Among the causes of engine malfunctions that are caused by carburetor failure are:
To determine the malfunction of the VAZ 2107/2105 carburetor, and it will most likely be complex, start by checking the tightness of the float. To do this, remove it from the top carburetor cover (it needs to be removed). If there is gasoline in the float, throw away the float; if there is air, check in a bowl of water for bubbles. Let's say it passed the exam, then it is necessary to check the gap.
Lift the carburetor cover vertically. The gap between the float chamber and the carburetor wall should be 6.5 mm.
Install the carburetor cap and run the engine for 30 seconds. Remove the cover. The gasoline level should exactly coincide with the middle of the conical surface of the carburetor body. If this does not work, you should slightly bend the corner of the float rod.
Over time, air and fuel jets either become clogged or wear out. In the first case, they need to be cleaned and blown out. In the second case, you should check the throughput of the jets using a tank of water installed above the measured jet by 1 meter. They are connected by a tube. A volumetric flask is installed below. Measurements take place in units of cm3/min. Depending on the marking of the nozzle, the volume of liquid collected per minute in a volumetric flask should correspond.
It is much easier after 7-10 years of carburetor operation to buy a set of jets and replace them.
Those who use gas installations should know that a carburetor is not used when driving on gas. Over time, oxide forms inside dry jets, which clogs the fuel supply holes. A gasoline car may not start. It is recommended to use gasoline periodically.
Adjusting the fuel level in the float chamber
The free play of the float should be 6.5 mm on one side and 14 on the other. This can be adjusted using a checking template by placing the camera vertically. In this position, the float slightly touches, but does not press on the valve ball.
If the distance does not correspond to the required 6.5 mm, then you need to slightly bend the tongue of the valve (needle-shaped), adjusting the size to the required one, indicated in the figure by the arrow under the letter “A”.
- Do-it-yourself carburetor adjustment for VAZ 2107
The next step is to adjust the degree of opening of the needle valve through which gasoline enters the float chamber. When the chamber is filled, the float rises and the flow of fuel decreases; when you sharply press the accelerator pedal and open the throttle, the fuel goes into the cylinders, the float drops and gasoline enters the float chamber.
Next, we adjust the deflection of the float in the opposite direction. To do this, move it away from the lid as much as possible and measure it with a template, the thickness of which should be 14 mm with a certain tolerance (Fig. above, picture on the right).
If the distance is greater or less, you need to bend the stop of the float mounting bracket and set it to no more than 14 mm.
Now, after the adjustments have been made, the free play of the float should be within 8 mm. Adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor also includes checking fuel filters and incoming screens to maintain a good supply of fuel.
Why does the VAZ-2107 injector stall the engine at idle?
A working engine in a VAZ-2107, the injector should work if the car is started, constantly, regardless of whether the vehicle is in motion or idling. Reasons why the engine stalls at idle:
To fix these problems, you need to remove each part and thoroughly clean it from dust and dirt.
Assess the condition of the components; if it is far from ideal, there are chips and deep dents, it may be better to completely replace the old part with a new one.
Not enough air
Often the car starts up well and runs on choke, but as soon as the choke is turned off, the engine stalls. This indicates only one thing - lack of air. Most likely the air jets are clogged. They need to be unscrewed and cleaned. Then check that the car should not stall without suction.
There are an incredible number of reasons for poor performance of car components with similar symptoms, but only a specialist with a set of professional diagnostic tools can figure them out. But if you feel confident in yourself, go for it, VAZ service centers are already waiting for you.
If the car stalls after starting the starter
What does it mean if the car refuses to slow down when you lower the gas pedal, and then suddenly stalls on its own at idle? The functioning of the throttle valve suffers, and all because it is clogged or stuck.
This option is quite acceptable if the owner of the car has used low-quality fuel more than once, the air quality in the industrial regions of Russia also leaves much to be desired, dirt impurities enter the air filter, which, being in a worn-out state and during long-term operation, simply cannot cope with dust.
How to solve this problem? Get started cleaning the throttle valve, especially since you can do it yourself. The only caveat is that for high-quality cleaning you need to purchase a special composition in advance that allows you to efficiently blow out the injector and other components of the iron structure
Also inspect the oil trap; if it is clogged, it’s time to clean it. Otherwise, very soon the crankcase ventilation system will become clogged, and the engine will literally suffocate from excess gases, which means it will not be able to cope with idling.
Reasons not related to the carburetor
Engine malfunctions
Watch and listen to how your car's engine works. The presence of black or bluish smoke, rattling sounds are signs of a problem. In order to figure out what is wrong with the engine, it is worth measuring the compression in the engine cylinders. It is recommended to carry out this operation even if you are satisfied with the engine performance, but the fuel consumption is not. To do this you will need a device - a compression meter.
Compressometer
To obtain correct results, compression is measured on a warm engine. Unscrew all spark plugs. The contact of the central wire of the distributor is placed at a distance of 1-2 cm from the ground. The compression meter is pressed against the spark plug hole, and an assistant, fully pressing the gas pedal, turns the engine with the starter; 3-4 seconds is enough to get results. The operation is performed for each cylinder and the results are recorded. The permissible difference in pressure between the cylinders should not exceed 1 kg/cm². And the compression in each cylinder must be at least 9.7 kg/cm². If the readings are not within the normal range, this indicates an engine malfunction; it is necessary to understand the reasons, and repairs may be required. You should not rely on the efficiency of a faulty engine.
Violation of engine thermal conditions
Temperature sensor VAZ 2107
The operating temperature of the VAZ 2107 engine is 80-90 degrees. If the thermostat of the cooling system is constantly open, the liquid will move around a large cooling circle, and this in turn will lead to incomplete warming up of the engine, loss of power and increased fuel consumption. And the opposite situation occurs: when the engine overheats, the filling of the cylinders with the fuel mixture is disrupted, which leads to loss of power and increased fuel consumption.
Incorrect ignition timing setting
It is not for nothing that the manufacturer indicates the recommended ignition timing (IAF) in the car manual, since it ensures that the engine operates in optimal mode. Deviations of the OZ in one direction or another will lead to an increase in fuel consumption. For VAZ 2107, the SOP should be 5° for AI-92 gasoline. But it should be noted that the best way to set the ignition timing is on the road. The engine warms up to operating temperature. The car accelerates to 50 km/h, and in the last direct gear the gas pedal is sharply pressed. You should hear a detonation sound (tapping of fingers) that ends after a few seconds. If the detonation is prolonged, the ignition is too early; if there is no detonation, the ignition is too late. The SOP is adjusted by rotating the distributor.
Distributor VAZ 2107
Damaged or leaking connections in the fuel line
Fuel leak
Everything is simple here, if the tightness of the tank, hoses, loose clamps of various connections is broken, fuel may leak. Having placed the car in the inspection hole and started the engine, you must carefully inspect the entire length of the fuel line for leaks, including under the hood. For convenience, it is advisable to remove the air filter. If necessary, tighten the clamps, change the hoses or gaskets.
Incomplete release of the car wheels
A very common situation. Braking a wheel or wheels creates resistance to vehicle movement and, of course, increases fuel consumption. The probable reason for this situation is the lack of free play of the brake pedal, that is, the wheels are constantly in a state of slight braking. On the VAZ 2107 the free play is 3-5 mm. adjustable by moving the brake light switch.
Brake pedal VAZ 2107
A seized caliper piston could also be a possible cause. We pay attention to the brake discs; with constant contact, dark marks from the pads remain on them, and the car disc can become very hot. Check to see if the handbrake cable is overtightened.
Wheel bearings overtightened
If the hub nuts are tightened too much, additional resistance will be created to the vehicle's movement, which will affect fuel consumption.
Insufficient tire pressure, tire wear
Both on the VAZ 2107 carburetor and on other cars, high fuel consumption can be caused due to low tire pressure. It must be monitored once a week and before each long trip. Low tire pressure prevents the car from rolling. You can check the pressure with a pressure gauge.
Pressure gauge
Violation of wheel alignment angles
Incorrect angles of the front wheels of the VAZ 2107 not only create additional resistance to movement and increase consumption, but also lead to increased tire wear. Work on checking and setting the wheel angles of the car is carried out after each replacement or repair of suspension parts. This operation is also carried out after strong impacts due to careless driving.
Defective spark plugs
They lead to interruptions in engine operation, loss of power, and increase fuel consumption.
Malfunction of the vacuum ignition timing regulator
It will cause an incorrect shift in the ignition timing at different engine operating modes, this will lead to a loss of power, throttle response and, as a consequence, increased gasoline consumption.
Vacuum corrector VAZ 2107
Improper adjustment of the clutch drive, or its malfunction
With such a problem with the car, slippage occurs, difficulty accelerating the car, which inevitably leads to excessive gas, which will significantly increase the appetite of your vehicle.
Driving style
High fuel consumption of a VAZ 2107 carburetor may be a consequence of a driving style that can quite significantly affect fuel consumption. It’s one thing when you are calmly driving a car and quite another when you are trying to squeeze out of the engine everything that it is capable of using the gas pedal. An aggressive driving style increases fuel consumption.
Vehicle overload
Everything is logical here. More weight means more load means higher consumption.
Fuel quality
When refueling with low-quality fuel, you will have to press the gas pedal harder, and this will lead to an increase in fuel consumption. Low-quality fuel can have a detrimental effect on a car's engine, so be careful what you put into the tank.
Air filter dirty
Dirty air filter
The composition of the fuel mixture formed by the carburetor greatly depends on the amount of incoming air. When the air filter is dirty, the air flows worse, the engine loses power, we use the gas pedal more actively, and consumption increases.
How to repair the idle speed control
In fact, the injector does not need to be adjusted, because the intelligent on-board control system is responsible for the operation of the machine. The idle speed regulator, built into the injector, is a mechanism that opens and closes the air flow again, and the air itself passes through a channel specially equipped for this.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine the exact breakdown of the idle air control (IAC) based on the readings on the on-board panel - the fault signal will not light up. But what will immediately become apparent is the instability of the rotations or their complete disappearance. If there is a “Check” signal on the instrument panel of the VAZ-2107, it is quite possible that the IAC is to blame. This means that the engine is detonating, and this signal is transmitted to the control unit, which is powered by electronics.
IAC breakdowns
If you have a VAZ 2107 with an injection engine, then pay due attention to the condition of the vehicle systems. If the speed on an injection engine fluctuates, then you need to look first at the idle speed control. The fact is that the breakdown of such a mechanism as the IAC can lead to very sad consequences, including a traffic accident. Here are the main signs by which you can independently determine whether the regulator is broken:
- The engine begins to “live its own life” - the crankshaft rotation speed is constantly changing, sometimes decreasing, sometimes increasing. Consequently, the tachometer needle constantly floats.
- When you start a cold engine, the crankshaft speed does not increase, it fluctuates within a certain range.
- If you turn on powerful electrical appliances (for example, a car radio, low or high beam), the speed decreases and does not return to the set level.
- When you engage the neutral gear, the engine begins to stall if you do not apply the gas pedal from time to time.
These are the main signs that the regulator is faulty. In fact, any interruptions in the idle level are the first sign of a breakdown or minor defect in the IAC. But the time has come to diagnose it. It won't be difficult to do this.
How to repair an injector in a VAZ-2107
If replacing the sensors does not produce results, it is better to go to a service station. The banal lack of tightness of the intake manifold provokes the same problem when the car stalls at idle.
With your own hands, inspect the vacuum hoses, gaskets, injector sealing rings, and then the plugs that are located in the manifold, and the vacuum brake pedal booster. It is easy to detect air leaks using a special unit called a smoke generator. Do not ignore checking the gasoline pressure.
If a pressure regulator is installed on the VAZ-2107 ramp, the optimal value fluctuates around 2.5 bar, but this is only at idle without a vacuum device. With a vacuum device, a value of 3.8 to 4 bar is permissible. Spark plugs must also be checked.
How to clean the VAZ-2107 injector nozzle is shown in the video:
Carburetor Types
Before you begin adjusting the carburetor, determine what type of carburetor is installed on the engine. It's quite easy to do this:
- If there is a vacuum corrector on the ignition, this means that you have the latest type of engine 2106 or VAZ 2103, and a carburetor modification 2107 - 1107010-20.
- If your VAZ 2107 car has a six engine, but no vacuum corrector is installed, then this modification of the carburetor is 2107-1107010-10.
Carburetor components that need to be adjusted:
Before adjusting the carburetor, you need to determine the main signs of its malfunction. Since this engine unit is responsible for the vehicle’s acceleration dynamics and fuel consumption, these include the following:
- difficulty starting the engine, long “shots”;
- sluggish car acceleration;
- all kinds of “jerking”, “jerking”, “failures” when pressing the gas pedal;
- increased gasoline consumption.
So, if your seven has the corresponding signs, you need to start adjusting it.
Attention! It is better to make adjustments with the carburetor removed. When adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor, do not use woolen or fleecy fabrics, and do not clean the jets with a wire, just blow them out.
First of all, the float system is adjusted, it’s more convenient.
